Mobile Broadband and Apple TV

Hello
I am looking at purchasing Apple TV but wondered if it would work with Mobile Broadband?
Just wanted to find this out before I make the purchase.
Any help would be appreciated.

Depends what you mean.
Any internet connection should work - wired or wireless.
However, AppleTv will not accept standard USB Mobile Broadband dongles.
If you had a computer nearby you could potentially share it's mobile broadband internet connection over ethernet or wi-fi to AppleTV.
If you had some form of mi-fi device with a small wireless/wired router running from a 3G SIM you'd probably be ok, but mobile broadband might be too slow for good performance and unless you had extremely cheap data plans could be very costly.
For example HD movies may be several GB in size, so you'd need to factor the mobile bb cost into the rental price.
If your mobile bb device gave say a sustained 1-2 Mbps, then it might take several hours to download enough of a film to start watching without interruption - it would work but you might be better off letting it all download overnight for example before watching the next evening.
It really depends on exactly what you're considering.
Also, beware of quoted mobile bb speeds which are theoretical and rarely achieved in practice.

I've rented a movie but it seems to stick at the download screen. I get the message "ready to play in......" (time stated varies) but it doesn't get past this screen. I've left my broadband and apple TV on all night but this message is still there. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The Apple TV streams the movie you rent and loads up enough in its memory to let you watch buffer free and then forgets the movie.  You get a rental for 30 days until you start to watch it then you have if for 48 hours.
The only thing you can do is play it when you want to watch it, if there is a problem when you do that contact apple or post again.  The Apple TV does not download the movie so if you switch off and resume later it will need to reload but can start from where you left off.

  • Can you use a mobile broadband for Apple TV. My mobile prepaid is wifi but does it have to have credit on it to or can atv still stream through the device.

I have a mobile prepaid broadband. I want to buy a Apple TV but I'm unsure about whether it will work with my mobile broadband.
It is wifi.  Does  my wifi have to have credit on it for the atv to work.  It still works you just can't connect to the Internet with it unless I buy credit.  I just need to make sure.  I want to use my iPad and view on my he tv.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It may well work but will likely be far too slow and far to expensive.

  • Upload data problem with HUAWEI E173 t mobile broadband and Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and updated my T Mobile Broadband software. It successfully connects to the internet.
But within minutes I had exceeded my fair usage policy having browsed five websites!
In T-mobile Internet Manager the Statistics shows huge amounts of data being uploaded ?in the background by OS X.
It is not syncing devices in iCloud. I have no other programs open.
It's uploaded 188MB in 30 mins. I have no idea what this data is or how to rectify this. Help, please?!

Until you can install updated 64 bit software or get hold of a 64 bit T Stick..
Boot your mac into 32 bit mode by holding down the 3 and 2 keys which should work OK.
    Lion is 64 bit..

I have a telstra wifi broadband that allows me to connect 5 devices.  I would like to connect up to 25 for a classroom activity.  i went to the apple genius bar and they said to use an airport express in bridge mode.  i cannot work out how to do this. it asks a number of questiosn that are a bit too tehcnical and i do no know how to set it up.
    Please help.

Use AirPort Utility to set up your Express.
On the 'Internet' tab, set the Express to bridge mode.

  • Fibre broadband and Apple Time Capsule

I wanrt to start using my Apple Time Capsule as my router, rather than the BT HomeHub.
I know what cables go where, it's when I get to the AirPort Utility stage that gets a little confusing for me.
I know you need to select PPPoE,
I put my username in Account Name,
    I leave password blank.
It is when I get to DNS Servers, I do not know what to put in there.
I am running OS X Mountain Lion with all the lastest updates installed.
    Can anyone help?

I tried [email protected] as my username but it would not work. It works with my username. It is all over the internet that you leave the password blank, otherwise if you put a password in, again it doesn't work.
You do NOT get an option on the Time Capsule to have DNS set to auto. You only have the option to put in your primary and secondary DNS.

  • My Time Capsule and MIFI mobile broadband

I just changed from broadband to MIFI mobile broadband and wonder how I can connect them so I can keep on my backup?
Is that possible as I had it before connected with Ethernet to my modem....
    or is it useless now?
    Thanks guys!!!

This is tricky alright.. the TC really doesn't like wireless connection.. but there is a hidden option.. hold the option key when you select the wireless.. instead of create or extend you will have a new option.. join a wireless network.
Put in the SSID and security to your MiFi mobile device.. assuming you do have a router of some kind and not just a stick. This will make all backups very slow as it is double hop wireless. All packets must be double sent.. client .. mifi.. TC and double received.. TC.. mifi..client.
When you put TC in this mode.. there is no ethernet or wireless from it.
An alternative is to use the TC by ethernet direct to the computer and off the network. Mostly people with laptops find that harder because it takes the TC to be manually plugged in to work.
You can also use a USB drive direct which is cheaper and easier. Much faster than double hop wireless too.

  • Virgin Mobile Broadband incompatible with Snow Leopard?

*Has anyone had this same problem?*
After I installed Snow Leopard, it was not compatible with some of my software (specifically: Virgin USB Mobile Broadband) and I ended up having to revert to Leopard 10.5.8. It seemed there was nothing else I could do as the software would not work at all on the new OSX. It just kept crashing. As it is my internet software and the only access I have to the net from my Macbook, I wasn't able to gain access to the net to try and get an update or a fix from the Virgin Site, or Apple.com.
Does anyone have any idea when things like this will be ironed out In Snow Leopard? As I don't want to reinstall it knowing that my internet software will be incompatible again.
    *Thanks heaps in advance. Soph*

The software installed as part of the virgin mobile broadband is coded to look for a 10.5.* or less. It crashes when it finds 10.6.*
As a work around i installed the huawei driver and manually configured the APN and dialup preferences and it worked fine and used far less CPU time
When i called Virgin tech support they were pretty vague and said that a hotfix should be available in a few weeks!!

  • Stream 8 tablet location does not work on T-mobile broadband

On my HP Stream 8 tablet, location works fine with GPS only (GNSS on; Mobile Broadband, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth off).
However, if I turn on Mobile Broadband and connect to T-Mobile and turn off GNSS (or GNSS on inside where there is no GPS signal) and keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, the location gives very odd results.  Last week the map showed Phoenix as my location (I am actually located in San Francisco).  This week, it gives Brentwood or Clayton, CA, both more than 30 miles away.
HP tech support said call T-Mobile.  T-Mobile said they had occasionally seen equally odd locations.
I went to a nearby T-Mobile store.  They had a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 which always gave a correct location, within 100 feet using T-Mobile alone.  Manually moving the map to a different location in an attempt to confuse it and turning it on and off, it would still find the correct location.  No surprise there, my three year old Virgin Mobile LG android cell phone does just as good a job at finding locations.
(The T-mobile store also had an iPad Mini 3 that I was able to confuse.  On T-Mobile alone and clicking on My Location in maps, it produced a grid that was blank except for a line saying that it was unable to find a location, no info or link to what to do next.  The T-Mobile store did not have a Stream 8.  The Microsoft Store has a Stream 8 but it is not connected to Mobile Broadband.)
Does anyone else have this problem?  Is my unit defective? There  are times that a GPS signal is unavailable and a T-mobile broadband signal is available, and it seems that this unit should be able to find a location at least as well as my cell phone.
    Thanks.

I see the same basic results, wifi=off, bluetooth=off, gnss=off, t-mobile=on. Open win8.1 map-app shows my location in LA south of the 101/110 junction. I'm in SF Bay area near San Jose about 400 miles away. Turn on wifi and map-app shows me at my real address. With t-moile only, opened win8.1 IE, went to www.bing.com/maps location also shows LA.
My only t-mobile account is the stream8 free 200mb/month data plan, don't think they have my real address anywhere. My t-mobile "phone" number is 720 area code in the Denver area. No idea why middle of LA is the t-mobile location. Must be a "feature, not a bug".

  • Lack of options for Mobile Broadband users.

I am really disappointed with the lack of options i have because my only internet option is Mobile Broadband. I live in an area, that Telstra decided, didnt need to change with the times so we get no ADSL internet as the exchange is too far away and Telstra dont feel the need to upgrade so the whole town can get ADSL. The NBN is everywhere around us but here and the mobile broadband is a bit sketchy as we have poor reception in our area. There are no bundling options for mobile broadband and discounts are quite poor. Paying $60 pm for 8 gb of data , which lasts about 2 weeks at my place (teenaged kids) if im lucky. I have since got Foxtel through telstra and also have my home phone also. So now I pay well over $200 per month for these services. It is annoying to know that people can get all this with multiple times more data and included calls for lees than half of what i pay. So why are we being taken advantage of just because Telstra havent provided decent infrastructure for us to get ADSL.

Hello,The reason that Telstra are limiting their infrastructure is that the NBN will make their network largely redundant, and will not spend money to tide their customers until NBNThere is also major congestion even in inner suburbs of major cities.Sorry, but as a customer also, I am unable to help you. Thanks

  • Blackberry Tethering & USB mobile broadband

Ok so I recently bought the option to tether my blackberry to my laptop and surf the internet.  Here is the thing a friend of mine has the Verizon USB modem for mobile broadband and was going to sell it to me.  I was wondering if I would be able to use that to surf the internet instead of my blackberry.  Thouhgt I would ask the questin before I bought it from her.

I would suggest to verify that the ESN is good on the device before purchasing the device, like bolder stated. Keep in mind that it's $30/a month to use your Blackberry as a modem that allows you to have 5GB allowance a month, while you'll be paying 59.99 per month for 5 GB or $34.99 for  250 MB with a broadband card. Hope this helps!

  • Will USB mobile broadband work with Apple TV?

I am considering to get USB modem so I can use the apple TV anywhere. But I have not purchase the USB modem yet. Click below for more info on USB modem:-
    http://threestore.three.co.uk/broadband/
I was thinking - USB modem is to be connected to my laptop (via USB port), Apple TV is to be connected to my laptop (via ethernet cable).
The questions are when I switch Apple TV on:-
    1. Will Apple TV automatically find the internet?
    2. Will the USB mobile Broadband work with Apple TV (Wireless via my computer)?
    Please advise.

I'm sure it should be someone answering this question who has actually tried this, but given that the tv is not overly portable I'm not sure you will find too many who have.
FWIW, you can use an tv with a direct ethernet connection or ad hoc wifi network between the computer and the tv, so I don't see why a mobile account rather than a static one should make any difference. You would need to set up internet sharing and all that, but my guess is it should work for you. Be aware though, I haven't actually tried this.

  • I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT

I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT. I have been to the Apple Store today. They did not resove my problem. Can anybody help?

Try this. Check the primary outgoing mail server username and password and make sure that they are in the settings even if it says that they are optional.
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails.

  • ASA 5505 VPN and Sprint Mobile Broadband clients.

I have a strange problem, it's something that just started recently when we had a user try to gain access with a Sprint Mobile Broadband card. We have quite a few remote users, probably not more than 6 ever connected to the VPN at once, and I have not heard of any issues until recently. We are starting to require more travel to remote locations, so the use of the hotel internet, as well as Sprint mobile broadband is becoming more important.
There are a few issues here. Everything is IPsec.
Mac OSX with VPN client version 4.9.01 will connect to the VPN when connected to a normal internet connection, but as soon as it gets on the Sprint Mobile Broadband device, it connects for exactly 5 seconds and disconnects.
Windows XP Pro, has no problems with normal internet, on the wireless broadband modem, it will connect to the VPN, but have no access to internal resources or access to the internet.
Windows Vista, has issues all the way around, but mainly when connected to the wireless it has the same issues as XP minus the internet browsing.
Strange thing is, all these problems seem to been different, but they all started around the same time. I have been testing everything I can think of. Talked to Sprint, which the lady there was actually very helpful...just have to get to the right person. But nothing we tried did any good.
Does anyone know of any settings on my ASA that I need to change in order to get these types of connections to work?
The best part of all this is that my Linux machine can connect/surf/and browse the internal network through the VPN just like it normally would work.
Something has to be wrong with my client config settings that is causing this to happen.

Have you enabled NAT Traversal? (Both on the Client and ASA)
That would be the first thing to check.
