Mobile Care app/ Software update always pops up with power on

I am guessing that this is the application Verizon uses to deliver updates to the phone?
Every time I power up the phone, I get a software update screen telling me it is going to download an update, which it never actually seems to do.  It's pretty irritating.  Is that the normal behavior?
Also, take a look at the permissions for this thing.   It has access to everything.  EVERYTHING.  Not acceptable.

Hi smeister,
Thank you to the community for your responses. After some further research, I see that though there is a MasterCare application in the Market, there is also a MasterCare application that is pre-installed on the Xperia Play. My apologies for any miscommunication.
Looking at the "Info" under The Mobile Care app on the Xperia Play, it's showing it does auto launch when you are using data. It is part of the phone's software to allow Over The Air (OTA) services like OTA firmware, etc. There will be an automatic pop-up when an update is available. The pop-up will go away once the update is completed. I also show that Mobilecare does track the data on the device.
Though this app is pre-loaded, if the software on the phone has been altered and the app is removed, any updates in the future on the device will not be allowed. This is an app that does need to stay on the device in order for any updates to be performed.
I hope this information is helpful and I apologize for mistaking this application for the Android Market Mobile Care application.
Thank you and have a good day!

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi Stephan —
    Sounds frustrating.
In the short run, you can use downloads directly from Apple's Download site.
    To complement baltwo's excellent suggestion...
(I guess we're both presuming that you've already tried to open a "test user account" as a means to ascertain whether the behavior is limited to your user account, or systemic...)
A couple of ideas — general and ~specific — toward troubleshooting:
        (1)   My observation is that — in ~any situation like this — it's well worth the time to carefully review and follow all the steps that may potentially be relevant in both KnowledgeBase Article 106695: Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X and 106692: Mac OS X: Troubleshooting installation and software updates. Most of the Softwatre Update and other download/installation-related queries I've read in Apple Discussions end up being solved by something discussed therein.
Hopefully, baltwo's suggestin or this will do the trick — and you can stop reading here.
        (2)   Looking ~quickly through your System Preferences.crash.log, the "machmsgtrap" entries jump out at me first thing. Quoting from the ADC document Examining File-System Usage: "Be aware that the machmsgtrap kernel routine will always be the system call with the greatest amount of CPU time used. This call indicates that the application is blocked and waiting for something to happen, such as a system event."
Thus, I've a pretty "geeky" idea — if you've the stomach to try it. If it's not already, move Activity Monitor's icon from /Applications/Utilities/ to your Dock. Launch Application Monitor. Set it to monitor "All Processes, HIerarchically," sorted by, e.g., Real Memory, most-to-least. Leave Activity Monitor open on the desltop — keeping an eye on whether any processes tend to "hang" (become significantly unresponsive — shown in red) even when you're not using Software Update (SU).
Then launch Software Update from the  menu, with the Activity Monitor main window positioned so you can watch it closely. As soon as the SU process shows up, double-click its name to open an "Inspector window" — also positioned for visibility.
Do you notice anything — particularly other processes — that may precede / be involved in the problem?
You may also want to look carefully through system.log &/or console.log entries whose time stamps correspond closely to the problem, as another means toward this objective.
Another really fun idea (ugggh!) might be to "Sample" (⌥-⌘-S) the SU process, starting before it "hangs" or "crashes" — again as a means to observe whuzzup. This will produce an incredibly dense amount of data — but there's a possibility you'll see something that'll provide a hint. There's a macOSXhint that provides an example of doing this.
I'd be interested to hear back about your progress...
    Good luck!
    Dean

This software update keeps popping up almost everyday in my iMac 27 although I keep updating. Looks like the either the update is not happening on my machine or some other problem. Anyone else know of this? Everytime I check for updates (I have the setting to manual check), an alert pops up in Apple store with the phrase "Lexmark Printer Software Update 2.11" available for download.
Is there a way I can turn off this notification for Printer updates until it is resolved? It is pretty annoying.
    Thanks

Not sure this will help yet, having just noticed it myself, but you can now get the Lexmark driver 3.0 for download here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1397
I'm going to give that a try to see if I stop getting the constant reminder for 2.11.

  • Car kit software updater

Can someone give me a definitive link to the car kit software updater? Looking on the support site I can’t find anywhere to download it.  Also looking through these forums people have put links like http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/nokia-ck-200/car-kit-software which just links to
    http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/
If there are different updaters for different versions mine is the CK-200.
I tried to use the Live Help but the help I got was less than helpful.
    Regards
    Chris

    I'm having the same problem.
The Nokia sites, accross a number of countries, all draw blanks.  Googling "car kit software" updater has results but they all lead nowhere.  It's as if all the copies on the internet have been deleted.
Nokia support in Australia has been a frustrating and unfruitful exercise.
    All help greatly appreciated :-)

  • Apple Software Update always lists AirPort Utility 5.3.1 for Windows

    Hi all.
My Apple Software Update always lists AirPort Utility 5.3.1 for Windows as an available update. I've checked, and yes - it has been updated successfully. However, the update is still being listed in ASU as being available. Anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    John

Okay. If you like, we could check to see if the Airport Utility is being correctly recorded in your Windows Installer database.
If interested in doing that, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (We're not going to be using it to remove anything just at the moment ... just check on the Installation database more closely.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch the utlity (Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up).
What version number appears next to the Airport utility for you in there?
For example, I just downloaded and installed the Airport Utility, and in my Installer CleanUp I'm seeing the Airport entry as "(All Users) AirPort \[5.3.1.9]".

  • When I click on Firefox it opens with a box that says "Foxfire is installing your updates and will start in a few moments-. " then it says "Software Update Failed (in blue) with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle) The update could not be install

When I click on Firefox the first time it says "Foxfire is installing your updates and will start in a few moments…. (with a green bar)" then it says "Software Update Failed (in blue) with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle)
The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again." When I click the ok, Firefox opens up. If I open another Firefox window with the previous one still running, it doesn't give me any of these messages, it just opens normally.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

If you can't install on top of the current installation then you need to delete or rename the current Firefox program folder to do a clean install.
It is possible that your security software is using or locking files, so you can try to temporarily disable that software during the installation.

  • Nokia care Belle software update

To put it bluntly, I would like to know how long would it take for Nokia Care to update belle to my N8?
Being a pre-order customer for the N8, I also had a faulty unit which was replaced and has the code 059B656. Althought I think it is unfair to make us go to nokia care just to get the update considering we were one of the first to purchase the n8.
What's done is done. I don't have good experiences at nokia care and prefer to do things on my own. The bottom piece of my N8 broke early on and a replacement was supposed to take 3-4 hours. I insisted if it takes that long just provide me the new piece and I'll install it myself. Well after some hassling they managed to get it done in 1 hour. To unscrew the broken piece, screw in a new piece and a bit of paper work and putting things in the parts bin (I assume).
My friends N8 took 2 weeks to come back from a swap, mine took 1 week to come back from a swap. I'd rather not be without my phone. A simple thing such as a software update I hope someone from Nokia can guarantee maximum of 1 1/2 hours to install provided there are not many customers. I am a tolerable person.
what's done is done. Lets move on to the most critical question:
Has anyone updated their N8 to belle at an NCC yet? Please highlight your experience.

Well, I was in a jolly mood and planned my day around the expected 3 hours. So sent in my N8 first person as it opened at 10am. Sat at starbucks for 3 hours doing my work thanks to long life of the asus notebook. Collected at 1pm. Belle is now on my phone. I'm worried now, what about other updates? Will the swap unit still be able to do OTA and Nokia Suite updates? My wifes unit is not a swap unit and recently had important updates to her phone, of which I didn't have any.
I sure won't want to lose another 3 hours + few more hours restoring apps and data for future updates.

  • How do I restore my purchased apps / software updates from the app store after my harddrive crashed and i had to replace it? I cannot find my mountain lion OS update and cannot access my icloud!

my macbook pro hard drive crashed while running an OS software update. I had purchased lion then mountain lion software updates a while back and so my system was running on mountain lion.
Now that i have replace my hard drive, i cannot find the purchased updates / apps on my appstore! why is that and how can I restore those updates?

You didn't mention if you clicked on the "Purchases" icon.

  • Restart after software update -- always stalls at black screen!

    Hello,
I've been having this problem for over a year now (see my other post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1224018&tstart=0).
The strange thing is, the same exact behavior is now happening on my MacBook Pro, in addition to my 24" alu iMac (where I first noticed it).
The problem: If Software Update prompts me to install a new patch, and that patch requires restarting, 99% of the time, when the system is restarting, it will hang at a black screen (seemingly right when the restart should be happening). The startup "bong" has not played yet. The system almost sounds like it is off, but it is not. It will stay there indefinitely. I then have to hold the power button to completely power it off, and then start it back up.
The patches do install OK, but it's completely annoying that the system doesn't restart properly!
Now that it's also happening on my MacBook Pro, I'm getting a little ticked off.
    iMac7,1
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
    MacBookPro4,1: MBP41.00C1.B03
    Boot ROM Version: 1.27f1

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.
This isn't an issue of not waiting long enough for a full restart. Regularly I'll tell it to apply the updates and then go to bed, and when I wake up it's sitting there in this black screen state. Nothing works: moving mouse, pressing keys, or hitting the power button quickly. It's stuck. I have to hold down the power button so that it completely turns off, and then restart it. Interestingly, the patches always are applied. So this hang is happening after it has finished updating everything.
I don't think it's worth reporting to the feedback center, since I already do report the error every time it happens: the cmputer restarts, and it says, it looks like you ran into a problem. "Ignore" / "Report..." and I report it. I evn include my email address most times, and have never once gotten any feedback, even though I've reported this same thing happening over a dozen times.
It's pretty frustrating that I'm going to have to wait until the next patch is out, and I have time, and then schedule a friggin Genius Bar meeting to get this sorted out.
Carolyn, I will try your idea regarding fixing permissions with disk utility. I might also have to dig through the Console again to see if there are any clues.
The really annoying/weird thing is that it started happening on my MacBook Pro as well as the existing issue on my iMac. !

  • Software update always fails due to "unknown error"

When I attempt to install software updates on my Macbook Air the process always fails with an error message that says "unable to install due to unexpected error" (or something like that). Any ideas how to fix this problem? I've found some references to this problem in the discussions but the proposed fix didn't work for me.

  • Why am I unable to download apps since updating my iphone 4 with version 5.1 software

    Please help,
since downloading the latest iphone software 5.1.1 i am unable to update or download apps
    mrmikes

Thanks. I had just assumed that my iPhone 3 was just too old for new apps and updates (seemed like logical apple move) so I gave up trying. Decided to do some serious digging and found this post, your fix worked like a charm, I'm a little embarrased, but very thankful.

  • Software Updates, Tray Pop-ups and Maintenance Windows

I will try to keep it to the point.
End Users in Europe power down their machines every night. Patch Tuesday rolls around, we set the deadline to patch for one week
later (the following Tuesday) @ 10pm.
So they come in that following Wednesday morning, power on their system and bam, software updates are installed and reboots are forced right
there in their earlier AM which is upsetting them.
Our settings? Deployment is required, detail level is “only success and error messages”, “Display in Software Center and show all notifications”, and when the installation
deadline is reached allow the following activities to be performed outside the maintenance window: “Software Update Installation” and “System Restart”.
So before I get a whole bunch of, “disable reboots” or “notify your users” or “use WOL”. I want to discuss this on another angle.
We are getting reports that users are not seeing the notifications. As you can see it is set to all notifications. Likely they are happening and they are not seeing
    them.
Main Question: Is there a way via a registry tweak or client setting that will do one of the following:
Make the tray popups more frequent
Make the tray popups last longer
Bring the main “hey things to patch screen” come up without clicking the tray popup
Anything we can do to make the notification BEFORE the deadline more in their faces would be ideal. Anyone?

This happened because patch updates reached deadline and installed forcefully and restart the machines. from
the software center and system tray. Just configure that in the deployment
Unless the site wide hide deployments option is selected,
you will get icons in the system tray. When that is selected, you do NOT get icons at all. If this is enabled, but you suppress the deployment itself, then you get the icons but not balloons.

  • Software Update always fails

I have a friend who bought a new iMac. When she tries to use Software Update, or download updates from the Apple website, she keeps getting this message:
The Update can't be installed. A networking error has occurred: Time out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the internet, then try again.
She is definitely connected to the internet...she keeps complaining to me via email!
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

She's at the point where she can download other kinds of files, like PDFs, from various websites, and she can download small software updates. But the large ones time out.
She doesn't have a router. Just a DSL modem.

  • App/software update

sometimes i forget to turn back on back on my silent button after a movie or school so i was wondering if apple could include a silent button timer in a next software update can they do that?

Apple doesn't read feedback here. Use http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
