Mobile Device Support Error installing or upgrading to iTunes 8.x

I have a 4th Gen iPod Nano which was working fine on iTunes 8 on my PC(WIndows XP) and then i decided to upgrade to 9 and it didn't work. I removed iTunes and tried 8 again and it gives me this error while installation and it doesnt go through."Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Schemas\Bookmarks.syncschema\Contents\Resources\Japanese.l projdeleteme. Verify that you have access to the directory" I tried getting rid of the Mobile Device Support folder but cant. Please help! thanks

."Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServices\Schemas\Bookmarks.syncschema\Contents\Resources\Japanese.l projdeleteme. Verify that you have access to the directory" I tried getting rid of the Mobile Device Support folder but cant.
Both those symptoms are consistent with disk/file damage.
Try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions (and a guided help) in the following Microsoft document:
[How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265]
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so reboot the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support Error????

When I plugged my ipot in, It said that it requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support and to uninstall it and Itunes and reinstall. I have tried this many times and it still does the same thing. How can I fix this?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Hello after updating to the new iTunes i got a box saying that i needed a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support and ihat i should uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support then install iTunes again.  I have been unable to uninstall itunes

Hello- after updating to the new iTunes i got a box saying that i needed a new version of Apple Mobile Device Support and ihat i should uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support then install iTunes again.  Problem is I have been unable to uninstall itunes, can't find the installation files .msi.  I'm using Windows XP.
    Help!

Problem is I have been unable to uninstall itunes, can't find the installation files .msi.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • TS1567 ok I just downloaded itunes to my PC and connected my iphone and its asking to download apple mobile device support then instal itunes..

ok i just downloaded itunes to my PC and connected my iphone and its asking to download apple mobile devices support then install itunes ....what do i do please help meee

Sounds like your file really is downloading but you just don't know it.  Check your Downloads folder to see if it's there (and give it enough time to complete!).  You will get the "thank you for downloading" page even though the file is just beginning to download.
If iTunes still isn't downloading, then clear your browser's cache and and try downloading again.

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

  • ITunes install fail -  Apple Mobile Device Support not installing - Windows 8

So I have a Windows 8 Pro system, and I've had to reinstall iTunes. Anyway I've been completely unable to do so. It simply either gets an error and does not install (where does itunes store its installer log files so I can see whats happening?) at all or it gets to the part where its starting up services and it fails when its trying to install and start the Apple Mobile Device Support service and so when I start iTunes I get an error message like this one:
"This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes"
I've tried several times to uninstall and manually delete all the files related to itunes, but this has made no impact.
I have no idea what to do. Reinstalling my OS and all the apps just to get iTunes back really isn't something i want to do.

All sorted now.  Sorry b noir, but I cannot remember the error.  What I did was use the idea from another thread to copy the necessary files from one computer to another.  Fortunately I have a laptop on 8 so updated iTunes and coppied all the files from the /Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device Support.  I then downloaded 2 programs to make the necessary registry entries.  This did not fully work so I searched the laptop registry for the version number of Mobile Device Support and then put it into the same desktop registry key.  This worked as I was now at the correct version.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support Error in iTunes 8.2.0.23 FIX

Okay, after I installed the 8.2.0.23 version of iTunes and tried to plug in my iPhone, I got a message stating essentially that the version of Apple Mobile Device Support is wrong, and to uninstall AMDS and iTunes and reinstall them. Of course, after doing that, it still gave the error.
After hours of trying things and coming up with nothing with Apple Tech Support, this finally fixed the problem. I don't know if it'll help anyone, but if it does, great!
    You will need:
    1. The previous version of iTunes - 8.1.1
    http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php
    2. The current version of iTunes - 8.2
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
    3. WinRAR
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
This is what I did that worked:
    1. Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support"
    2. Using WinRAR, extract "applemobiledevicesupport.msi" from the 8.1.1 iTunes installer file to your desktop.
    3. Run applemobiledevicesupport.msi to install the previous version of Apple Mobile Device Support. This won't jive with iTunes 8.2. If you try to run it, you'll just get the old error message.
    4. Using WinRAR, extract "applemobiledevicesupport.msi" from the 8.2 iTunes installer file to your desktop overwriting the old version.
    5. Run applemobiledevicesupport.msi to intstall the new version of AMDS over the previous version.
    6. Start up iTunes.
    7. Plug in iPhone
It should now recognize the device.
Let me know if it works for ya!

  • Why does AMDS (apple mobile device support) not install?

I run iTunes on a new (3 months old) Windows 7 PC using version 10.6 (64-bit) of iTunes.  I have been using iTunes for many years (or various machines) without any problems.  Recently iTunes stopped working correctly.... I got numerous error messages when loading the software, and could not sync any of my devices.  I went through every tutorial/help/troubleshooting I could find and nothing worked.  I had to restort to the "last resort" option of completely removing iTunes (which I did by carefully following all of the steps in the Apple Support) and reinstall iTunes.  After reinstalling and pluggin my iPhone or iPod Touch I get a message saying, "This iPhone/iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."
Again, I went through every tutorial/help/support/troubleshooting option and discovered that AMDS (apple mobile device support) is missing.  None of the support articles addresses this issue (only how to turn it on, locate files on your computer, etc.) but I tried them all anyway.  Nothing worked.  I removed an reinstalled iTunes 3 more times.  No change.  AMDS is still not there.  It does not even exist on my system anywhere.  It doesn't seem to be downloading at all.  I contacted customer support and was just given links to all of the troubleshooting articles I had already tried.
I have spent many hours on this and I'm getting no where.  Please help!

If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Apple Mobile Device Support not installing on 7 x64

Ok. I installed the latest iTunes, but for some reason it keeps failing to install Apple Mobile Device Support. I am on Windows 7 x64. Any suggestions? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling every bit of Apple software from my computer, and uninstalling and reinstalling the iPods drivers.

I have this same question.  I have been working on this for hours.  Apple Mobile Device Support no longer appears in my program file so I cannot repair or uninstall it when I do a complete uninstall and reinstall.  I have even extracted the Apple Mobile Device Support file from the iTunes .exe and it still won't install.
I have made sure that Windows Installer service is running.  I have turned off my security program.  I tried to use an old Apple Mobile Device Support file but iTunes rejects it.  It does appear under services though and is running.
    Any suggestions?
