Mobile Hotspot issue.

So I was helping a friend with a PC problem and discovered that when my hotspot is turned on if accessed threw a desktop or laptop there is no prompt for the password. There is a prompt if a mobile device tries to access but not with PC's or laptops. I have tested on multiple computers and cell phones and get the same results everytime. I have checked my settings and my hotspot has a password. I have done the simple stuff like re-start the phone, change the password, wipe the device but no change. What could be the reason for this? Any help would be greatly apprecieated.

I will test this for you on my laptop.... I know my mobile hotspot requires a password but I have not tested with a laptop or PC.

  • Droid Razr 4G Mobile Hotspot Issues with PS3

I am hoping someone else had this issue and has been able to resolve.  I just got a Droid Razr this week, and I have the 4G mobile hotspot feature.  I am trying to replace my slow DSL line at home, and most things in my house have tested fine (Internet access, etc.).  However, my PS3 seems to have some issues, particularly with online gaming and testing the network connection.  The game I am testing now is COD MW3.  I thought maybe something like IP ports were blocked on the phone or 4G network, but searching online seems to indicate that isn't an issue.  If I reconnect my PS3 back to the DSL, online gaming and network tests work just fine.  Move it back to 4G and the game won't connect and the network tests don't complete.
I don't see any features on the phone that would indicate that you can modify any firewall like settings.  Anyone else experience similar issues?  Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same issue with my Samsung 4g hotspot as well.  I can get onto the PSN, download game updates just fine, but when I'm in a MW3 lobby, it just sits there and eventually times out and a XMB message displays that i've been disconnect from the wireless access point.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Mobile Hotspot Issue after 10.1 Update

Hello, just wondering if there is a know issue with using mobile Hotspot after update z10 to 10.1. After this update was installed Mobile Hotspot will turn on but past network that I had created is not there anymore, also I cannot configure, when I press configure nothing happens, and then Mobile Hotspot turns itself off.

    Hello dnivek,
    Welcome to the forums.
I would suggest you contact your mobile service provider to ensure you are on the correct data plan to allow you to use the Mobile Hotspot feature. If they confirm you are on the correct plan and have the correct APN settings then please have them escalate your issue to BlackBerry Technical support for investigation.

  • Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

    Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...
    Thanks,
    Aileen

  • Pre Plus Mobile Hotspot laptop connection issues

    Hello All.
I think this is a duplicate post because I hit enter accidentally!  Sorry.
I am having a problem connecting my laptop to the internet using Mobile Hotspot through VzW.  I have activated the feature on VzW, have the software loaded on my Pre Plus and have tested it successfully with my daughter's iTouch device.  She was able to easily connect and access the web while we were in the car.
My laptop recognizes the MHS as a WiFi access and connects to it initially.  When it tries to acquire a network address, it fails.  I says that the connection has limited or no connectivity.  I cannot get on the web with that.
My question is what settings I might need to set on my laptop to help with this connectivity.  I have WAP Personal set with the appropriate Key on both devices.
Any thoughts from anyone?  I would appreciate any help.  I like the concept of the feature but not being able to connect my laptop really puts a damper on my enthusiasm!
Thanks for any help you can give.

I had the same issue. I resolved it by using a passcode that has 8 lowercase letters and no numbers...

  • "No Internet Access" on connected device with mobile hotspot

I've been on Verizon for 2 weeks.  Note II on a Family Share Plan with lots of data.  Using the built-in Verizon Mobile Hotspot application.  Connecting from my work laptop, which is Windows 7.
Set it up and everything worked fine for a week and a half.  I had no problems connecting or accessing the internet from my laptop.  It worked fine Monday morning.  Monday afternoon my laptop started giving me the warning message "No Internet Access" when connecting to the phone's hotspot.  I'm in a 4g area where the hotspot has worked previously.  I've tried several times in several different 4g locations as time allowed over the last 2 days, and I have not been able to get to the internet on my connected laptop again.
While connected to the mobile hotspot I ran Windows troubleshooter and it tells me that there is no DHCP server available, and that the default gateway for this network is unreachable.  My laptop has no problems reaching the internet via the wireless network at work or at home.  The laptop connects to both of those wireless networks every day (both before and since this problem appeared.)
I have rebooted both the phone and the laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I renamed the hotspot, and connected to the "new" hotspot from my laptop, with no change in the problem results.  I have tried running "ipconfig /renew" from my laptop while connected, and that is when it tells me that it cannot find a DHCP server for this network.
What broke?  How can I fix it?
I'm still in the 100% refund return period on my contract and phones (for another day or so.)  This is an absolute deal-killer.  Hotspot on my phone is the single reason why I switched networks.
    * Revised 2/28:
This morning I turned on the mobile hotspot feature on my wife's Galaxy S3 (on the same Verizon Family Share Plan.)  Then I connected to it from my laptop.  When it connected it said "limited internet access" for about 30 seconds, and then that warning went away and I had full access.  I surfed for a moment to confirm, and all was working.  I turned off the GS3 hotspot and turned on the hotspot on my Note II.  When I connected to the Note II's hotspot from my laptop I still had no internet access.  I left it for 3-4 minutes, and it never switched on.  I tried surfing and got only error messages in my browser.
All of this was while sitting at my desk.  So I believe I have ruled out the laptop as a cause for this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Randy

After I posted the above in February I talked to Verizon support.  They could not resolve the problem.  They replaced the phone, and the new phone has worked for months.  My work schedule changed a bit, and so I started using the hotspot less often.
Last week I noticed that after I connected my laptop I had a longer delay before it would change from "No Internet Access" to giving me access.  Yesterday morning it was so slow that I got the command prompt up on my laptop and determined that from the laptop's perspective the problem was that there was no DHCP server available through the hotspot network.  That morning it did eventually find the DHCP server and issue my laptop an IP address, and let me connect.
Yesterday afternoon the DHCP server never appeared, and I was not able to connect to the internet.  Same thing this morning.  I rebooted both the phone and the laptop.  No change.  The laptop connects to other wireless networks just fine, still.  This worked for months.  Why did it slow down connecting and then stop?  I'm guessing there must be some sort of buffer that has filled up.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Z-10 Hotspot Issue with AT&T

Starting about a week ago, my Z-10 stopped allowing me to create a hotspot as it would show the error message, "To use this feature, contact your wireless service provider to subscribe to a Mobile Hotspot data plan."
My plan does allow for mobile hotspots and the Iphone and Android phones that my other family members have can still form a hotspot.  It just will not allow the Z-10 to do so.
In the NUMEROUS conversations with AT&T representatives by internet chat, telephone, and face to face at store over the last week, they have not been able to present any resolution.  AT&T did do a ticket on the matter to try and resolve the issue and it came back with the suggestions of factory reset and equipment replacement.  The factory reset did not correct the issue, so they stated that it had to be a problem with the phone, but when I got a AT&T customer rep at local store to try and create a hotspot with a brand new Z-10 out of the box, it came up with the exact same error message.
Now I am being told to contact Blackberry as according to AT&T, this has to be a Blackberry issue.
Anyone out there have any suggestions?
Actions taken so far in interactions with AT&T....
    Many restarts.
    New SIM card.
Verified SIM card worked in another type of phone.
    Factory reset of phone.
    Verified latest operating software (10.2.1.2179).
SIM card tried with brand new Z-10 out of the box.
In researching the matter online, seems that there are quite a few Blackberry 10 series owners having this issue in seemily certain areas of the country with AT&T service.  Anyone have any possible resolutions other that AT&T's final recommendation of going with a different brand of phone?
Edit....Forgot to mention that internet, emails, phone calls, and texts all working as normal.  Just will not allow the hotspot to be formed.

ATT support knows better than this...or they should...or whoever you spoke to is not properly trained. BB has never been reachable directly by end users for support issues. Escalation, via the formal channels to which only the carriers have access, has ALWAYS been the methodology for formal support from BB. Refer:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Social-Lounge/How-This-Site-and-Formal-Support-Work/td-p/2540...
Whoever you spoke to is, well, not properly trained. UNLESS -- if you did not purchase your device from ATT, then if they have deemed it a device issue, then they may be correct in denying support. But, you still cannot contact BB directly for free...instead you must go to wherever you purchased the device from as they are responsible for your device-level formal support (and, if needed, escalation up to BB).
    Cheers, and Good Luck!

  • Verizon iPhone - mobile hotspot and other questions about the data options

I just ordered the Verizon iPhone. Can anyone explain the options here:
    1) Unlimited corporate email & Web (business and personal email) vs. Unlimited email and web for smartphones (personal email) - what's the difference?
    2) "3G Mobile Hotspot 2GB" - does this mean that there's no way I can share my 3G connection via wifi without paying the extra $20/month?? How about tethering to a single computer (USB, BT, or WiFi) - does that also require this extra option?
    3) equipment protection - what's the difference between Extended Warranty, Asurion Wireless Phone Protection, and Total Equipment Coverage?
    thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Hi
Regarding your #2 question; yes, you must pay $20/mo to use the 3G Hotspot aspect of the iPhone, same as with any of Verizon's phones that offer this feature such as the Droid X, HTC phones, etc. And, there is NO additional charge to tether it to your computer; it's $20/mo regardless. You can still use the iPhone's WiFi feature to search the web which is part of the regular data plan. We're only talking about paying the $20/mo for the "up to 5 devices" jumping on your phone as a hot spot.
I'm an Apple fan, have my MacBook Pro, but my phone is a Droid X. I've been a Verizon member since a year before they became Verizon. Additionally, I am part of the Verizon & Motorola test forum; testing new software updates as they come along.
Something you should know about Verizon's 3G Hot Spot feature; it has issues. Those of us in the Motorola & HTC forums have experienced identical issues with regard to the 3G Hot Spot feature; it disconnects every 2 minutes, even when you are actively surfing the net. Verizon & Motorola Support have been very helpful to provide what they believe are fixes, including: changing the channel, hard resets, clearing cache, etc. It does not work. Most of us believe, this is NOT a Verizon issue, but a phone maker issue.
I also have Verizon's MiFi 2200. It costs $59/mo and is purely a hot spot device; again up to 5 devices. I use it at home, for my lap top and for those who need connectivity. It outperforms the 3G hot spot feature of the Motorola & HTC phones by leaps & bounds, and I suspect it will out perform the 3G hot spot feature on the iPhone. Additionally, you get 5GB of download with the MiFi which Verizon is planning on offering increases to 8GB & 10GB. There is NO plan to increase the 2GB download limitation on the 3G Hot spot of the iPhone & other phones, and anyone who does basic software downloads & pics, knows 2GBS is not a lot space.
So, I would recommend not paying the $20 until this is resolved. If you do, you could pay $39 more for a total of $59/mo for the MiFi, download the software to you home computer & notebook, and end up canceling your home internet service. I did this and have saved $70/mo in my total utilities.
One other important note: Verizon's VZManager Software for their phones & MiFi. If you did pay the $20/mo for the iPhone and decided to tether to your USB port (for power while using) and you were to use the 3G hot spot feature, it will NOT work on 64 Bit computers, regardless if you are using the WiFi feature or directly using VZManager. The MiFi has this same issue. It will only work on 32 Bit when tethered. So, you'd have to reboot your computer to 32 Bit, if you have that ability. On a Macbook Pro, simply restart holding down the "3" & "2" keys.
I have no idea why Verizon can't simply upgrade the firmware, even recent firmware upgrades have not resolved this. Most new computers are 64 Bit now.
Despite this, I use my MiFi 100% untethered and carry my charge cord in my bag as it also works on my Droid, and I presume they may do the same for the iPhone; reduces the need for multiple power cords.
I really looked forward to the 3G feature of the Motorola & HTC phones, but honestly, it's just not there yet; mine was slower than Dial Up, and I'm not kidding.

  • My mobile hotspot no longer works since I upgraded to mountain lion. What happened and how do I get it back?

My mobile hotspot (Samsung Note II)  no longer works since I upgraded to mountain lion (running on MacBook Pro)  What happened and how do I get it back? "
    Keep getting error message:
    "Could not join “NAME-HOTSPOT”.
    A connection timeout occurred"
Please someone help me with this - I do a lot of travelling and use my hotspot!
    Thanks

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wrieless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Mobile Hotspot option missing on new software for Win 8.1

On my Thinkpad X230, there used to be an option Mobile Hotspot in Lenovo Settings on Windows 8. After the update to 8.1 and the following Lenovo updates, this feature is gone, or hiding elsewhere. Where is it?

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Windows 8.1 comes with a built in mobile hotspot feature.
The Mobile Hotspot feature has been removed from Lenovo Settings because it conflicted with the Windows 8.1 built-in feature. Once these conflicts are resolved, the new Lenovo settings redesigned with mobile hotspot feature will be available. But we cannot assure when it is expected to release.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Does ePrint work with mobile hotspot service?

I have a relatively new HP Officejet Pro 8500a E-All-In-One printer. I use the printer with a USB connection to my laptop, but also with a WiFi connection to my tablet through the mobile hotspot service of my HTC Thunderbolt phone. Until recently, I used this service with an iPad, which worked fine using AirPrint. One thing I noticed early on was that while the printer was seen by the other devices connected to my mobile hotspot, the printer was unable to set up the ePrint service, always giving me the error that it was unable to find an internet connection. All of my other devices are connected to the internet via the hotspot with no special settings created or used. Now that I've switched to using an Android 3.0 tablet, I need to get the ePrint feature working in order to print from my tablet--but I just keep getting the same error: "The Printer was unable to connect to the server. You can connect the printer to the internet through a proxy server..." Am I doing something wrong? The printer is set up using the WiFi signal from the mobile hotspot, and other devices on the hotspot can see the printer...
    Thanks,
    Did

Hey technobabble1! I've never tried to set this up personally but I think it would work. Try viewing the ePrint troubleshooting information found here and see if it helps at all. If not, let me know what happened and I will try to find out more information for you.

  • IP Address Conflict Using Mobile Hotspot On Iphone 5

    Hello,
I just got my new Iphone 5 and I love it, apart from one little problem.  Now when I connect it to my laptop using the mobile hotspot (either via usb or wireless) I am constantly getting a network error popup stating that there is an ip address conflict.
    Hardware info:
    Iphone 5 16gb
    Asus G74S Laptop with Windows 7 64bit
    Error info:
The error popup is in the form of a small window titled Network Error.  It states "Windows has detected an IP address conflict"  "Another computer on this network has the same IP address as this computer... blah blah blah"
The windows system event viewer has the following log:
    Source is Tcpip
The system detected an address conflict for IP address :: with the system having network hardware address 00-00-00-00-00-00. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.
    The event ID is 4199
    Done so far:
Already did every single troubleshooting step in regards to ip address conflicts, ipconfig /release and /renew, flush dns etc.  I even did an entire system restore on my laptop back to factory settings.  Installed a fresh Itunes 10.7 64bit and reconnected my new Iphone 5 and am still getting this message. I never had this problem with my Iphone 4.
Called Apple tech support, they ran me through all the steps relating to the phone itself, reseting network settings, resetting factory settings, removing and re-inserting the sim card, you name it.
Disabled IPv6 in the registry and reboot, still the same popup occurs.
Tried to assign a static IP address to Ipv4, still the same popup
    Any ideas?

Still having the same issue....Is there another thread in which this is resolved?  Iphone 5, IOS 6.  It's just the phone tethered to a laptop (have tried with two laptops, both get the ip address conflict error, so the problem resides in the phone).  No other devices are on the network.  Was this ever addressed?
We use the iphone 5 as a mobile hotspot for our business, which is completely internet/skype based, and we need to be mobile.  Mifi keeps kicking off the connection, so they are not an option.  Thank you.

  • Seeking some straight answers on "share everything" and mobile hotspots

    Hello all;
I get a sense from reading other posts that the "share everything" plan is -- to say the least -- not going over too well among most Verizon customers.  However I'm one case for which I think it might actually be beneficial.  Here's the facts.  My wife has an iphone -- 2GB data per month.  I have a regular phone -- basic 39.99 per month for calls with no extras, not even texting.  Right now both phones are set up as individual lines under my account number; nothing is shared.  I went through the simple calculator Verizon had on the site, and the monthly cost came out to about what we're paying now --$140 plus "other fees" (whatever than means).
So it seems to me that it might be a good move, just it case I ever had a need for accessing data on my "dumb" phone -- which right now is pay as you go.  Also, since my wife uses wifi most of the time, it would appear that the 2GB per month would be more than adequate for both of us.  Am I missing something here?  Some fee or hidden costs that I'm overlooking?
Second quesiton:  Verizon indicates that mobile hotspot is "free" with the share everything plan.  Does this mean that we could use my wife's iPhone as a hotspot in order to use our wifi-only iPad when we are in location that does not have wifi service?  Sorry if that's an obvious question, but I don't really find a clear explaination of this on Verizon's site.  Also, I assume hotspot usage counts against the monthly data allowance?  Or is that a whole separate charge we would get hit with?
Thanks in advance for any and all enlightenment on these issues!

Some fee or hidden costs that I'm overlooking? you aren't missing anything. most users use well below 2 gigs, especially if they use wifi often.
Second quesiton:  Verizon indicates that mobile hotspot is "free" with the share everything plan.  Does this mean that we could use my wife's iPhone as a hotspot in order to use our wifi-only iPad when we are in location that does not have wifi service? yes Sorry if that's an obvious question, but I don't really find a clear explaination of this on Verizon's site.  Also, I assume hotspot usage counts against the monthly data allowance? yes Or is that a whole separate charge we would get hit with? no seperate charge. you're looking at about $160 total (after taxes and fees). however, keep in mind that if you start using her hot spot for wifi access for your ipad, your data could go up pretty quickly so you will want to monitor it closely for a while.
Thanks in advance for any and all enlightenment on these issues!
basically, you are looking at $140 (as jimfitzgerald stated) plus about $20 in taxes and fees for unlimited talk and text on both phones and 2 gigs of data that can be used via hotspot from the iphone. it's that simple.

  • Mobile Hotspot Says I'm connected to internet, but websites timing out

Hello, I just got mobile hotspot for my Thunderbolt. I am connecting to the network and it is saying I have internet access, however when I try and load a website they are timing out.
To make matters stranger, my computer is showing recieving and sending packets, and I had a youtube vdeo half loaded, and it streamed the rest. But when I click on new websites it is saying connection timed out.
    All help is appreciated thanks!

This has happened to me in the past. I've seen a few others report similar issues. I'll assume you've already tried the standard solutions (reboot, battery pull, reseat the SIM card).
Have you tried connecting to the hotspot with another computer? Have you tried a direct USB connection rather than a WiFi connection?
For me, the solution was to turn off Auto Sync before using the hotspot feature (Menu -> Settings -> Accounts and Sync, and then uncheck Auto Sync). Don't know why this worked, but it did.
If the above doesn't work for you, it could be a network-related issue. To test this, try the following:
Can you ping sites from your computer when the browsing ability is down?
If no, then it sounds like a DNS issue. In this case, try accessing a website by using its IP address rather than its domain name. For example, 206.112.186.66 is the IP address of lowes.com. If you can access a site via the IP address but not via the domain name, then it's a DNS problem. Call VZW tech support to report it. Use different DNS servers (e.g., Open DNS) in the meantime.
If you can still ping sites, then it's not a DNS issue. So, next, try using a proxy server--such as proxify.com--to access the web.  If the the proxy server works, then you should call VZW support to report the problem, since it's clearly an issue on their end with specific sites.
When calling into support, let me forewarn you: Give yourself an hour or more for them to walk you through the usual steps (reboot, battery pull, reseat the SIM card). Also, if they assign you a trouble ticket, don't expect to be called back within the promised 48 hours (it's more like 2+ weeks). Instead, you have to be assertive and keep calling them back.
