Mobile Me.....icloud

My MacBook is older (circa 2007) and in the preferences it still shows Mobile Me under the Network section.  Is this the same thing as icloud?  It shows me logged in, but it is with another apple ID.  Will i screw it up if I "log out" and sign back in?  If I do log out and log back in with the apple ID I am using with my other iOS devices, will things synch up better?
Thank you in advanced for any help

MobileMe closed over a year ago and that setting is no longer functional.  To get iCloud on your Mac requires OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher so you will need to upgrade to OS X Lion higher to use iCloud.  First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Mountain Lion and Mavericks requirements are the same, as listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
If you can run Mavericks, you can download a free upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If your system can only run Lion, you can go here to purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.  If you prefer Mountain Lion for software compatibility reasons, you can go here to purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing applications by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.   Also be aware that older PPC programs such as AppleWorks and Office 2004 for Mac will not run on OS X Lion or higher.

  • Mobile me/icloud find my iphone through a proxy server?

    Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so if it's not please let me know where is best.
I have a fleet of 600 ipads who are forced to run through a proxy server via a 3g connection. Up untill last week I could trace all these iPads via mobile me or icloud and use the find my iPhone feature. In this last week I seem to have lost this ability. All iPads are coming up with "no location". Mixture of iOS5 and variations of iOS4
If I turn off the proxy on the iPad I can trace the iPad.
me.com, apple.com amd icloud.com are all allowed through the proxy.
I cannot see anoy other banned traffic with a web address I can unblock.
I really just need to know what else I need to allow out via the proxy to get this working again? I'm guessing something has changed in Apple world as the proxy hasn't changed.
    Thanks

Hi - did you have any luck with this? I have a similar problem, but only on a private APN through our proxy. I've managed to allow all the URLs to get the iCloud account registered for each device via the APN/proxy, but they do not appear on my icloud.com device view. If I remove the APN, therefore our network proxy is not used, it works fine.
    Thanks

  • How to sync music bought with an old apple id with a mobile me icloud

I migrated from mobile me to icloud using my mobile me account (which is different to my itunes apple id account) and I can sync pictures, contacts and ical via the cloud to my mac, iphone and ipad using the mobile me @me.com id. All devices are signed in with the mobile me @me.com log in.
However, my purchased music won't sync when i buy it with my itunes apple id. Do I have to re-sign into icloud using my old apple id to sync it all? If so what happens to pictures and ical.
I started off by creating an account using my old apple id on the iphone (which prompted me to create an entirely new me.com address), but I changed it to the @me.com log in and deleted it from the iphone because it would not sync pictures etc.
I think I did something wrong at he very start due to the confusing prompt for an apple id when creating the original icloud account.
    Any help appreciated

You should continue to use your itunes account ID for iTunes and your iCloud ID for syncing services such as calendar et al.
If you want your iYunes purchases to download to all your devices, check automatic downloads in settings > store on you iOS devices and iTunes preferences > Store in iTunes on your mac/PC.

  • HT204053 is mobile me icloud

trying to set up icloud on my mac i am getting mobile me is that the same

Looks like someone may have deleted the App store "app" I did a google search and came across this article on how to get the "app store" app back:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57435664-263/how-to-reinstall-the-mac-app-s tore-in-snow-leopard/
The Mac App Store in OS X is Apple's new means for delivering software and OS upgrades to Mac users. Some people have removed the store from their systems to keep their OS free of commercial links, but doing so makes upgrading to OS X Lion or later versions of OS X much more cumbersome.
Since the Mac App Store in Snow Leopard was appended to the existing OS infrastructure with the OS X 10.6.6 update, its removal was relatively easy and just required users to remove the App Store program from the Applications folder. Doing so reverts the Apple menu and other links for the Mac App Store to how they were in OS X 10.6.5 or earlier.
While this is a preferred setup for many people, the App Store is almost a requirement for upgrading OS X and for purchasing some software packages, so people who have removed the store may wish to reinstall it on their systems. Unfortunately, since the store was distributed in OS X 10.6.6, people who have removed it and subsequently updated to 10.6.8 may have difficulty reinstalling it.
    MacFixIt reader James writes:
[Is there any] way to get the Mac App Store back on my Mac since I deleted it?
While the OS X Combo updater for 10.6.8 should have the Mac App Store and all required components within it, for some people who have removed the store the updater will not reinstall the store. This was the case in James' situation, and getting the store reinstalled required first extracting it from the 10.6.6 update, followed by reapplying the latest 10.6.8 combo updater to ensure all files on the system are at their latest versions.
To reinstall the Mac App Store for a Snow Leopard system on which it has been removed, you can perform the following steps:
Download the OS X 10.6.6 Combo updater and mount the disk image
    Download Pacifist from CharlesSoft.
Open Pacifist (optionally register if you find the program useful) and then open the 10.6.6 combo installation package
Go to the "Contents of MacOSXUpdate10.6.6.pkg > Applications" folder and select the "App Store.app" file.
Click "Install" in the Pacifist toolbar and choose to install with administrator privileges (provide your password when prompted).
When this is done, download and install the OS X 10.6.8 Combo updater, followed by restarting the system, and your App Store installation should now work properly.

  • Mobile Me / iCloud upgrade. Timezone upgrade.

I have a MacBook desktop which I purchased restored from a Computer Supplier - I am not sure what year it is, possibly mid 2010. It is still running Mobile Me instead of iCloud - I never had a Mobile Me accoutn and am wanting to upgrade it to iCloud. Also, the time is one hour slow - when I go into the settings to change the time zone, everything is greyed out and don't have the option to. Thank you kindly.

On the Time zone, are you running in an admin account?
Did you unlock the lock in the bottom left corner?
After you sign up for iCloud on a new enough OSX version, you can setup iCloud for even earlier OSX versions...
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
        •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 993
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
        •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
        •    SSL Required: Yes
        •    Port: 587
        •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
        •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
        •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • What is Lightroom Mobile using iCloud for?

I was getting messages that my iPhone couldn't back up to iCloud because I had run out of space, and found that Lightroom Mobile was using 7.1G of space.  I was under the impression that LRm used Adobe CC for all it's syncing, and I'm wondering what it's using iCloud for (and if it's safe to delete it through Settings -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup -> Manage Storage)?
Not sure if it's relevant or not, but I did have the option to backup the camera roll to Lightroom enabled.

Is your Macbook Pro running 10.7.2? This is required.

  • I got an iTunes account years ago with an ID and password...them later got a mobile me and password...now I have an iPad and downloaded iCloud and I can't get my movies and tv shows on iPad because different account name and password from my mobile me.

I can't get my movies and tv shows on iPad now that I have added iCloud. The problem is that my iTunes account has different name and password from my mobile me account.  Can I change my iTunes account name and password so that they will transfer to my iPad with the mobile me / iCloud account? I need to figure out how to make the two accounts one or iCloud has to be able to accept my iTunes account with years of music and movies.

Hunter of Sock Monsters thanks...I did follow your advise.  I went to the iforgot site and tried answering the secret questions twice.  I got the "wrong answer", so the next time I asked for an email authentication.  I am still waiting. I don't know what the usual time for waiting normally is. I am still waiting for an email reply from three days ago.  I'm not going to hold my breath.  My ipad is out of warranty but I may have to beg for help from support? I'll wait awhile longer.  Maybe there is another thing someone could come up with.  I appreciate your fast reply Hunter.

  • When I go to hook-up to iCloud, the icon I find  on my system preferences is 'mobile me'.  My OS is 10.6.8   Does this mean this laptop can't hook up with iCloud?

I've just hooked up to iCloud on my iPad.  Got an invitation to hook up my MacBook Pro, but when I attempted to do so, I run into a 'Mobile Me' icon where I expected to find the iCloud icon.  I checked for system updates and am told there are none for my computer
Does this mean my system is too old to hook up to iCloud?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

  • HT204053 How do i get icloud in my system preferences? Currently has mobile me.

Ive done a system update and still no icloud in my system preferences, just mobile me.

iCloud requires Lion (10.7.2) or greater, you never mentioned your version of OSX but, at a guess I would say that you have Snow Leopard (10.6)
Upgrade to the current version of OSX, 10.8.2.

  • How to use "Notes" on my iPad with my existing iCloud address?

How to use "Notes" on my iPad with my existing iCloud address? It asks me to create a new one...

Did I overlook some critical info here? I'm having the same problem described by Henry5, but I'm signed in to iCloud with my AppleID which is not the same as my Mobile Me/iCloud email. I keep being asked to create an account (which it won't allow me to do since the account already exists) but no where do I see an option to use the existing account. I also tried logging out with my AppleID account, and using the iCloud email, but that doesn't work.
I just want to sync my notes and mail... this is really irritating!

  • Can I get a new mobileme/icloud email address?

I have been with mobileme since the iphone 4. Now mobileme really doesn't exist anymore and icloud has taken over. Am I able to request a new allias name for my email address? If so, how do I go about changing my mobile me/icloud email address? Thanks.

    Hey Zbrina,
This document details how to change an iCloud email alias. I found these steps:
In iCloud Mail, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu in the sidebar.
    Click Accounts.
Select the alias in the Addresses list, then do any of the following:To change the name or label, enter a new alias name and label in the fields provided. Alias names must contain between 3 and 20 characters.

  • I can't publish to iWeb, it doesn't seem to be able to login to my icloud account. any ideas?

I've been trying to publish a site on iweb. It seems that iweb is unable to sign in to my icloud account. I push the publish to mobile me tab, push the sign into your account tab,( already a member). I get the barbers pole for 30 seconds or so, and then, nothing happens.  Any ideas anyone?

MobileMe closed in July last year.
    iCloud does not offer webhosting.
You have to find a webhost.
It's been discussed for the past 2 years in this forum, the MMe forum and all over the planet.
    Browse this forum.
    In short :
    Find a webhoster.
And since you use iWeb 08, publish to a folder and use an FTP app to put the files on the server.

  • HT4847 How can I store files on iCloud?

How can I store files on iCloud?

Actually, I have found that this is very possible, combining several other tips from around the web, though perhaps not easy.  I am using Moutain Lion.  I am assuming that you have already activated and signed into iCloud previously.  Here are the steps for creating a cloud storage location that you can drage any file into, and access from any of your Macs:
    1) Create a new folder in the directory that is synced with iCloud.  Start by opening a Finder window, and going to the ~/Library/ directory.  Do this by typing Shift-Command-G while the Finder is open, and typing ~/Library in the goto window.  Next, open the directory "Mobile Documents".  Finally, Control-Click inside the Finder and select the "New Folder" option, naming it whatever you like -- I chose "iCloud".
    2) Step two is about creating a shortcut to this iCloud folder in the Finder.  You cannot directly drag the iCloud folder into the Favorites section of the Finder, but you can do this:  Control-Click on your new folder, and select "Make Alias".  Now, drag this alias over to your Favories panel in the finder.  You will be prompted whether you really want to move the Alias out of iCloud: Say "Yes".  Now, delete the Alias -- you don't need the original instance of it any more. (Alternatively, you can skip to the end of step 3 and drag the symbolic link into the Finder Favorites)
    3) Step three is about being able to access this iCloud folder from the Unix command line, and from the Desktop GUI.  Open a Terminal window (Launchpad => Other => Terminal).  By the way, I recommend putting the Terminal into your Taskbar, if it isn't already.  You should be in your home directory ... to verify, type "cd" and press Enter.  Now, create a Unix symbolic link (an Alias won't work for this) to the actual location of the iCloud folder:
Type "ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud/ iCloud" and press enter.  The command should be entered precisely, I recommend cut and paste.  The first character is a lower case "L" and there is a space after the backslash between "Mobile" and "Documents".  You should now have a symbolic link to the iCloud folder created.  To view it in the Finder, go to your home directory: Shift-Command-G, and then enter "~/" into the window.  You should see a folder called "iCloud" there, with a little arrow animation in the corner.  You can drag this into the Taskbar to have a permanent clickable shortcut.  You can also access the contents of this folder through the terminal.  From your home directory, just type "cd iCloud" and press Enter.  You are now in the iCloud folder (or more properly, your local version of it), and can use the usual Unix tricks ... "ls" to list contents, "mkdir ABCD" to make a new directory called "ABCD", "mv a.txt b.txt" to rename a file "a.txt" into "b.txt", etc.
    4) Step four is about accessing this folder on other machines.  On a second Mac, repeat all of the steps above *EXCEPT* for creating the New Folder in step 1 ... it already exists, but you can get it into your finder bar, and create sym-links in the same way from there.
The great thing about this is that when you work, you are editing a *local* copy of the file, so you can work offline if you like.  Then, whenever you have internet access, the *actual remote* cloud copy of any new or modified files is uploaded.  Likewise, updated files are downloaded from the cloud to get your local files into sync.  You have the benefit/safety of a local hard copy, AND the portability (and extra safety) of cloud storage.  It's exactly what I wanted, and it works like a dream.  Plus, time machine can back up your *local* copies, to maintain version history.  I'm not quite sure what happens if you try to simultaneously edit a file from two places, but don't do that.
    Hope that helps you!

  • I cannot find icloud player on my computer or items submitted purchased from other sources

I find it easy to access Amazon cloud but I am unable to find items on itunes match sinec I moved files to a separate hard drive when they were filling up my Apple notebook. Do I need to download itunes icloud player again? Please advise what I need to do. I also want to access icloud on my ipod and a Samsung Galaxy phone. Thanks, John Tyrrell - Triel 2976

I'm afraid I do not quite understand what you are trying to accomplish. There is no "cloud player" application. You access your music in the cloud with iTunes on a computer and through the Music app on iOS devices. Please describe the problem you are having in more detail so we can help you.
As to accessing "icloud" on mobile devices, iCloud is not the same as iTunes Match. Please tell us what model of iPod you have. At this time only OS X, iOS and Windows (Windows Vista SP2 and up) are supported.
