Mobile Me SMTP failure - how to fix

This info is scattered around this forum, so thought I'd create a new topic.
My Mobile Me email on my 1st gen iPhone would not send even though it received just fine. I checked all the smtp settings and port 587 was correct, and the alternate smtp servers were ready to go, including the AT&T one for use when away from home. But no joy using WiFi at home, even though the same account works fine at home on my MacBook.
The first thing to check is whether the account address is [email protected] or [email protected] If the former, you should definitely do the following: delete the entire Mobile Me account from your phone and re-create it. It should then default to [email protected]
I did it easily in about 40 seconds and lost no contacts, calendars or mail, despite dire warnings to the contrary, and it sends just fine now over my home WiFi (via Comcast).
-dan

Thanks for your help, but I already did that and it did not all get removed as I said before.A .dll is missing. On the control panel if you right click mouse on MobileMe Icon, and try to Open, you get this message "AppleSyncPref.exe wasn't found because of missing .dll. So I go round and round and the message of previous note, goes on and on.

Don't worry the native resolution of these cards are far higher than any consumer monitors out there, these GPU can comfortably drive a 30 inch dell with WQXGA resolution. And the resolution you can get on most consumers LCD screen is WUXGA, which could be used even with a laptop 5 years old.
Currently most of the cheaper LCD use a 16:9 rather than the 16:10, these are due to two factors mostly:
    1) Cheaper to produce than 16:10 and this is one of the reason that the LCD have fallen in price, as production can squeeze the most amount of LCD panels out of each production ran, with minimal cutoff wastage.
    2) Most of the widescreen movies are produced in these resolution (16:9), and many people use their LCD for movie watching and games (i do it a lot).
The resolution of the graphics card can be changed, to fit either the 16:10 or 16:9 screens, so what you have to worry which one do you like.
The benefits of 16:9 are it is cheap, and there is plenty of supply from different companies, offer high resolution in small screen area, and good for movies and games.
The benefits of 16:10 is that it got more vertical real estate, so there is less scrolling if you view a document. But they are more expensive, mostly reserved for higher end LCD, hard to find and probably not that much better than a 16:9 if you are getting a TN (most common and very cheap) LCD.
For a cheap LCD stay away from Acer (low quality LCDs) and stay away from Samsung that allow you to rotate or raise the LCD (they break off really easily, i have 3 failures already), i personally like Benq and ASUS one because they offer the most bang for bucks in the 16:9 category, and many of them can be bought with HDMI input... TV, Xbox 360 and PS3....

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

    Hi jodilynnf,
When using Connection Doctor to see what is could be causing the issue, look for the red dots to let you know what is wrong. Then all you have to do is correct that information. You can double click on the section that is giving you issue and it will take you there. Most issues could be just password being entered incorrectly. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How to fix "Email address lookup" failure

    Here is a weird one...
I have created a new nickname object which has three email addresses.
They all list OK under "View Email Addresses"
However when testing, GWIA reported "no such user". !!
After double checking the "View Email Addresses" screen for typo's, I did a Tools | Utilities | Email Address Lookup and it fails on the address, but the other two addresses for this nickname object are found OK.
So I deleted the nickname object and recreated it, but it still the 3rd email address can't be found.
Does anyone know why this is the case? Or better yet how to fix this?
    Cheers, Gordon

    Uwe,
I have synchonised the user object, and strange thing is that the nickname addresses actually appear in the user object under the "View Email Addresses" list, in the "Nickname Email Addresses" section. So the user object looks correct.
I guess that when the Email Address Lookup utility searches as does GWIA, it accesses an address list and not by actually looking at each individual user object's address list. So I just have to figure out why just one of the three nickname email addresses are not making it to this "Email Address Lookup" list.
I might look into doing a PO rebuild, unless there are any other less drastic ideas.

  • WiFi sync failure "Error -50" - how to fix?

My iPhone 4 syncs over WiFi with iTunes without hitches most of the  time. However, at seemingly random times, the sync fails. I do not get  any warnings on the iPhone itself, but on iTunes there is an icon with  an exclamation point next to the iPhone entry under Devices. Clicking on  it shows this:
Does anyone know what this is, what causes it, and how to fix it?
    Thank you.

I seem to have solved the problem by applying the fixes related to the photo problems, even though I am not syncing photos. Go figure. So, I deleted the iPod picture cache, connected the iPad with a cable, turned off WiFi syncing, synced with the cable, turned on WiFi syncing, and then synced without the cable.
I did the same for my iPad and it worked, too. One really odd thing that happened, though, was that the first WiFi sync was taking very long, and there were a lot of things being copied. I stopped the sync, went to the computer, connected the iPad with the cable and synced from there. At this point, the entire music library got copied! I clicked on the Music tab under the iPad in the devices area and saw that just about all songs had a symbol next to them, an "X" inside a circle. As the songs were being copied, these symbols disappeared. I have no idea why it did this, for I did not mess around with the music library at all! I have not even turned on iTunes Match. Anyway, the songs were copied and everything seems to be OK on the iPad. No duplicates. The other thing I noticed is that some of the album cover artwork does not show in the Artist view - but the artwork is there, you can see it if you click on the Artist name to see the album details. And, all the artwork shows fine in the Album view. Very strange.
