Mobile Me Syncing

Mobile Me will not sync automatically. I sync through my PC and it stopped doing it automatically. If I go in through Windows Control Panel and tell it to sync it does fine. I sync both and iphone 4 and a macbook with my PC Suggestions?
Thank you,
Mike

With the MobileMe Control Panel on your PC, do you have Automatically selected for syncing under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account preferences?
Any problems with syncing automatically with the Address Book and iCal with your MobileMe account on your Mac?

  • Mobile Accounts - Sync of iCal and Desktop Background Fails

I just set up mobile accounts and mobile home syncing on my computers so network users have a local home rather than just their network home. However it is interesting to me that the desktop picture is independent of the network home. That is to say, each machine has its own desktop picture for any one account.
However iCal does the same thing and thats a problem for me. For example, if I set up iCal to sync with my gmail on on computer, the other computers will not do it. I'm trying to avoid going into every computer and setting up the calendar preferences because that would be a pain in the tail.
    Any clues?

Ditto. I am having the same problem. I don't understand why ~/Library/Application Support/ doesn't sync. There are two entries in the exclusion list, but none of them would prevent Mail, iCal, AddressBook, or iChat from syncing their configuration (.plist) files.
The only reason I bought this Mini Server was to manage these portable home directories (or Mobile Accounts) so that my family could login on any Mac and have their account all setup with everything configured and files available as if they were on their primary Mac.
    Really a bummer!

  • Mobile Home Sync damaged my settings. iCloud Keychain only partially restored. What can I do?

Mobile Home Sync (I'm using Mobile Accounts from OS X Server) on my desktop suddenly started syncing what it should not, all stuff that is normally excluded from a PHD sync, such as contents in Library. I stopped it, but not fast enough to prevent all damage. One thing that was damaged was the 'lock screen with password on sleep' setting and apparently as a result of that (or a combination of that) the iCloud Keychain was gone.
I was able (after some trouble, the Security & Privacy tab of System Preferences came up blank at first) to set the password on unlock from sleep, then I reattached the iCloud keychain. But the keychain only has a small part of what was in there and many passwords of web sites seem to be lost. Also interestingly, when trying to login to this community, some sort of iPhoto/Flickr login/password was suggested.
I also have a laptop that was not damaged. Is there a way I can get the keychain from there and use it to repair the keychain on the desktop?
PS. Apple: can you please after years and years of neglect repair Mobile Accounts and Portable Home Directories? iCloud is not only far from complete for that (a half-ready solution if at all) and it also means your data is synced outside of your domain (which is not always legally allowed). Mobile Accounts is so broken that I have started to use Synk to make sure some parts (such as the iPhoto Library) still can be synced to the server. And (as the above shows) it is quite capable of damaging the data on your system (rather a definite no on my list).

Adding to  this: the autofill information in Safari is lost as well. Can I copy that over from another machine?

  • Using Lightroom Mobile to sync photos to desktop – proper workflow?

Just wondering what people suggest as a workflow for importing photos taken on a cameraphone into a Lightroom library.
I want the photos to be saved into the same folders on my hard drive that the rest of my photos go into (Pictures > 2014 > 8 > 3 etc). Using Lightroom Mobile and syncing with the desktop app works well, but the files aren't saved inside my library, are they ...
Is there a way i can do this without physically importing them?

    Hi,
it would be interesting to know exactly what you are doing here.
Does it mean that you upload the images from your Lr Desktop?
It might take a while before the sync is done.
Which version of Lr are you using?
If you compare Lr Mobile with lightroom.adobe.com - is there any difference?
Does it help to update Lr Mobile to 1.2.1?
    Thanks,

  • Mobile Account Sync Logging?

Is there a log somewhere that I can check to see what files are synced during a Mobile Account sync session? Something like a sync log file?
I looked though the WGM'er and didn't find anything.
    Thanks...

also, check ~/Library/Logs/FileSync/FileSyncAgent-Verbose.log and logs in ~/Library/Logs/FileSyncAgent/ on the client and/or server homedir.

  • Q abt. "Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync"

I am following the steps "To optimize the file server for mobile accounts" which are listed on page 157 in Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management :
In Server Admin, click the disclosure triangle for the server hosting network home folders for mobile accounts.
If Firewall isn’t listed, select the server, click Settings, click Services, select Firewall, and then click Save.
Select Firewall, click Settings, and then click Services.
Choose the address range for your users’ computers from the “Edit Services for” pop-up menu.
Select “Allow only traffic from ‘ipaddress’ to any of these ports,” select the Allow checkbox for Mobile Account Sync (port 2336), and then click Save.
Select the server, click Settings, and then click General.
Select “Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync” and then click Save.
    My questions is:
In step 2, I added "Firewall" to the services. I continued with the following steps, but nowhere does it say to press the button "Start Firewall", so as of right now Firewall is listed, but not activated - it's gray and not green. Should I turn on the Firewall Service? In my setup, a cable modem/router is acting Firewall between WAN and LAN (small private home network).

I can't get Server Side File Tracking to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Here's what I've done:
    1. Followed the instructions in "Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management" as per the first post in this thread.
    2. Tried turning on the Firewall Service - resulting in clients unable to log in to their network accounts.
    3. In Server Admin, under Firewall>Settings>Services, with 192.168-net selected in the pop-up menu entitled "Editing services for", I then chose "Allow all traffic" (instead of "Allow only traffic to these ports:") as my router acts as a Firewall in my setup. Now users can log in to their network accounts again, but Server Side File Tracking is still not working. How do I know it is not working?
According to infinite vortex in this other thread, the syncing window is supposed to only show this:
On my clients, you can see it scan through the home directory before the file copying/syncing actually starts.

  • Mobile Me Sync freezing Photoshop CS3

I had to turn off Mobile Me Sync. Three times now, Photoshop froze when Mobile Me Sync kicked in. I had multiple documents open, and was using selection tools, brush, etc. One time it froze when I was doing nothing, and Mobile Me Sync came on. I wonder if anyone else is seeing this behavior with Photoshop and Mobile Me? I have 10 GB RAM and 8 cores. You'd think it could walk & chew gum at the same time.

The situation is complicated by some unknowns, which I will need to eliminate by rebuilding my system. To be brief, I mistakenly used Apple's Migration Assistant to import my office partner's account from his old Pismo laptop running Tiger. I either did this the wrong way, or was using the wrong tool to begin with, because after that, my system had problems. My Computer Name was changed to his Computer Name, and Adobe CS3 started to say it wasn't registered, first Acrobat, then all the apps a week later. To solve this, I reverted to a clone I had made before the trouble occurred, and recreated my friend's account by a safer method; creating a blank account with the sane username/password, then importing his files.
This looked like it was going to work, but under intensive use, Photoshop is crashing and exhibiting behavior quirks. I am also having trouble with Style Master, which may or may not be related. I don't think I will be satisfied without rebuilding my system from the ground up, something I hate to do more than once per year:)
A couple of related questions: I have been allowing my drives to spin down while using Photoshop, thinking that I can put up with the occasional beachball while a drive spins up, but now I am wondering if this is part of the problem. Also, I will need to deactivate CS3 for the reinstall, and that worries me, too, because I always end up on the phone to India, probably because I am on Wild Blue Satellite here, and CS3 can't deal with my spotty, crappy internet connection.
Anyway, thank you for looking at my concerns, and I will report the results of my research.

  • Exclude large files from mobile home sync

Hi, is there a way to exclude files from mobile home sync based on their file size?  For example, I work with many VMs on my MacBook Pro, juggling around between different installation ISOs for various Linux distros and version of Windows.  For the mostpart, these large ISOs (some pushing 4GB in size) are only used on my MacBook and not on my Mac Mini running OS X Lion Server.
I have mobile home sync set up, and it's been working great, until I happen to download a large file.  If I'm not paying attention, my home directory will begin to sync with the server, pushing these large files over the wireless network, soaking up all of the bandwidth.
I understand I can create specific directories to exclude from syncing via Workgroup Manager, and also use various rules with regex in regard to the naming of the files and directories that should also be excluded from sync.  But I'm often juggling around files of various formats between various directories in my development environment, and it would be troublesome to write rules that would encapsulate all of the scenarios.  The most simple solution would be to base it on file size, and I can't seem to find much on this in Workgroup Manager.
Anyone know of a way to exclude files from mobile home sync based on their file size?

  • Mobile accounts - sync - between 2 machines

I have an iMac in my office that is running MacOSX 10.4.10 Tiger.
My User account is set up as a "Mobile Account" and syncs to a Xserve running 10.4.10 Server
I have purchased a new iMac that is using Leopard 10.5.1.
I wish to use this Leopard iMac at home and using my mobile account sync to the Server so that both my Office (Tiger), and home (Leopard) systems have the same user account information.
Leopard is supposedly backward compatible with Tiger, but is there any known or expected problems that I will come across using this syncing set up.

We do use portable accounts. This is so that we don't tie up the network letting users work directly from their network accounts. We also need to have the ability of our users to work at different computers, but still get access to their own stuff. We have it set up so that when a user logs onto another computer for the first time, he is asked if he wishes to create a portable home directory. We have them answer "yes". I think at that time it then brings down from their network account all their files and settings so that the new computer will look like any other computer that they already have worked at. This appears to creat what is called a mobile account on the computer. We also have syncing set up to sync at login and logout. This, hopefully will sync up their network directory to any changes made at different computers and thus make those changes appear on any other computer that they work at. Sometimes the user gets a message that their network account has changed since last logon and ask if they wish to sync to their network account or their local account. We normally tell them to sync to their network account, assuming that it has the newest changes. None of our users ever work offline from our network so their network account should always be the most recent version of any files. This is assuming that the syncing is working properly. Does this make any sense? Does it sound like we are doing this properly or is there a better, more efficient procedure?

  • Mobile home syncing problem

    Hi all,
I have a mobile home syncing problem. When the sync runs it returns the following error:
Unknown error: -[SStore myNodeForNode:isDestNode:]: Unable to find node for "Pictures/iPhoto Library/Data/2008/6-Aug-08/DSC00042.jpg" in store "HomeSyncMirrorPeer-DfrxJp1ET07-zivj" Please try again later. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.
This file does not exist both on the server and on my mobile laptop.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Ziv

    Shawn,
I've done the deletion of those folders a number of times, with no luck.
The most recent attempt to get this to work was:
    1. Delete ~/.FileSync and ~/Library/FileSync from the server machine.
    2. With a brand-new install of OS X on a laptop, create a local administrator, join the server, then login as the user account that wants a mobile account
    3. Look at logs
I still get an exception on the server

I'm quite frustrated with the whole situation at this point. I'm sure some folks have gotten it to work, but since it has exceptions like this silently, it slowly corrupts the data in an account. I still want to get it to work, but am skeptical that it will.

Which mobile phones sync well and easily with a mac, apart from the iphone. I have a old Nokia 6630 that works well with the mac, now I want new phone but it needs to be Mac friendly, ical, address book so which phone do you recomend?

Some phones that can't sync natively with OS X might be able to with software such as "The Missing Sync": http://www.markspace.com/ .

  • Disappearing Contacts, Mobile Me Sync Issues, Calendar crash-Answers??

I'll try to keep this post brief but hopefully it will help provide some possible answers for frustrated users experiencing the random complete wipe out of all contacts and calendar data when syncing with mobile me using either push or fetch. After several weeks of experiencing these random sync issues and spending several hours over several days between tech support calls with iPhone then Mobile Me support and then finally a genius bar appointment where the genius said he didn't have a clue and simply offered to replace my phone.
The next morning, SAME PROBLEMS... and through it all NO ONE could tell me why my sync was so randomly unreliable. Every other day for no apparent reason, my phone would suddenly lose all contacts and/or calendar data. (A few thousand contacts and two years of calendar data). It was both frustrating and strange—even stranger that Apple techs had no clue why and seemed to think no one else was having this issue.
I tried everything - complete restores, resets, deleting and re-adding the mobileme account, etc., etc., etc. One tech support person finally said, "good luck..." The others kept handing me off the higher levels of support... until finally they just said "we don't know why this is happening." I was waiting for someone to just say, "Look, we have issues with mobile me, so hang in there and eventually it will work." I can be patient and I still think the iphone is the greatest invention in recent years. But everybody I talked with at Apple seemed to think this should be working flawlessly.
I also started having a crash on the calendar anytime I tried to see the list view for "all calendars." This was frustrating because that's the best feature of the calendar app!
I was prepared to just return to syncing with my computer and wait for the software to improve between the phone and mobile me. Finally, last night I tried a few things that seem to be working... and for the first full day, mobile me is actually useful to me today. (my fingers are crossed!)
    Here's what I did.
    1. I minimized the number of calendars I was syncing - I have no idea if this affected the sync, but I was syncing eight calendars, now I'm down to four. (You can easily export a calendar and import those events back into a different calendar.)
    2. I did a complete restore of the phone (not from a back up) and the VERY FIRST THING, I added mobile me and synced only the calendar (set to push.) This cleared up the random calendar crash in list view and also mobile me was pushing data rather reliably. After a few moments my entire calendar was on the phone and worked perfectly. New events were transferred quickly back and forth.
    3. I then chose to sync my contacts through the computer rather than over the air. I fear that the contact sync was somehow messing up the whole communication process between the phone and the cloud. Someone suggested that the number of "groups" in contacts might have an impact on the sync issues as well. I didn't need my contacts to sync with the urgency of "push" so this works for me. Plus I have a lot of contacts and it's just faster over the cable.
    4. I then GREATLY reduced the number of apps on my phone. I originally had about 27 and I only reinstalled 9 of them. I did this ONE AT A TIME - starting with the most necessary and useful... and after each install, I checked the functionality of the calendar and mobile me. No problems. Perhaps I was having an app conflict?
    5. Then I reinstalled the rest of my content - music, podcasts, photos. Still no problems.
ONE of these steps actually worked, and I'm not sure which one. My guess is that one or more of my apps was conflicting in some way. OR possibly something with the contact sync... but for the last 24 hours the mobile me calendar sync using push has been consistently reliable and useful. (for the record, mobile me email has always worked perfectly for me.)
No one with tech support ever suggested to me that I could be having an application conflict or any other problems with calendars or contact groups, etc. I've spent many hours on this the past few weeks... and for the first time, my iphone seems to be working with mobile me correctly.
In reading many of these posts, it seems a lot of others are having similar problems... so hopefully these suggestions might be helpful. If you have any thoughts as to which of these solutions was the correct one, I would be interested in hearing your opinion.
    Thanks!

Are your Address Book contacts and iCal calendars/calendar events on your Mac synced with your MobileMe online address book and calendar?
When you say this data is not synced with your iPhone, none of your MobileMe online data is transferred to your iPhone, or after the initial transfer of this data to your iPhone when you first turned contacts and calendars for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, the data is not kept synchronized with the MobileMe "cloud"?

  • IPhone/Mac/Mobile Me Sync issue - Contacts / Calendar

I seem to have lost all of my contacts and birthdays after syncing my iphone, mobileme and my mac. The only location which still has contacts is my iphone. Since contacts went missing, all of my birthday settings in my calendar are also gone...Any thoughts on what I need to do to restore my original calendar / contacts settings. This iPhone transition with mobile me has been somewhat complicated!

Prior to activating Mobileme you need to sync your iPhone to your computer to have all your contacts and birthdays on your computer. When you turn on Mobileme, you must sync the data to the cloud (Mobileme) from your computer first. Then when you turn on Mobileme syncing on the iPhone, it will pull your calendars and contacts from the cloud. Make sure you verify that the calendar is in the cloud before syncing the iPhone.
Do you have Mobileme syncing turned on on your iPhone? If not, you're in luck with the contacts. You can turn off Mobileme on the computer, and have the iPhone contacts sync to address book through iTunes. Make sure you have at least 1 contact in address book before syncing.
If Mobileme is on on your iPhone, I don't know a solution. One thing for future reference, once you get things restored, is to use the functionality built into iCal and address book to create backups of their data. That way, in case a problem like this arises again, you can revert to a backup and retrace the necessary syncing to Mobileme steps.

  • Windows Mobile and syncing with Vista

I just recently bought a new laptop (within the last week) with Vista as the operating system.  I also use Outlook 2007.  When I hook my phone up by the usb cable sometimes the computer acknowledges my phone and sometimes not.  However, when it does acknowledge it, it does not give me the option to set it up, only an option to sync music, photos and tv.  All I want to do is to sync to Outlook.
You can probably tell from my message that I am not very tech savvy but if someone can tell me what to do I can do it!  I have read the help menu in Vista backward and forward but still have no idea how to get my phone to sync.  Someone please help me before I lose my mind!  Is there anything that I have to download to be able to sync?  I realize that activesync no longer is needed on Vista but I am unable to tell whether I have to download the Windows Mobility Device Center or if it is already in Vista.  I cannot find anything that looks like the WMDC is supposed to look like on my computer and like I said, I am not offered the option of setting up my device.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post relates to: Treo 700wx (Alltel)

Ok one way to make sure and see if WMDC is install is to go into your control panel and open the programs and features. And look for the windows mobile device center. If it is listed then it is installed if not (which I think is the case) then you would need to go to here to install it http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
once installed you should get the setup option.
Let me know if any of this does not work

  • Mobile Accounts: Sync new accounts first time only.

When a user logs into a computer for the first time it is set to create a mobile account, however we don't use home directory syncing because the typical size of our 200 users' home directories is over 100Gb which makes syncing home directories not viable.
It would be very handy, though, to have it sync the first time only at login so that our user directory template is automatically copied over which will save a lot of time setting up new users.
Accoring to Apple's User Management v10.5 documentation on page 203:
+"To initially sync local and network homes so that the network home folder replaces the local home folder, choose “Create home with default sync settings."+
(This refers to Workgroup Manger -> Preferences -> the Mobility pane -> Account Creation -> Creation tab)
After testing, though, it is quite clear that this does not work - at least on my setup. I can get it to work by going to the Rules tab in the Mobility pane and ticking the sync at login and logout, but this syncs every time on both login and logout, which is not what I want to achieve.
    Any ideas?

I also mentioned, that some Safari-Extensions I installed on the iMac are missing now on my iMac-Profile. I also mentioned, that some settings for 1Password are reset to default values.
