Mobile Me to iCloud created two Apple IDs

I know that similar questions have come up but none of them seem to fit my situation. When MobileMe transitioned to iCloud, I was prompted to create an iCloud account. My [email protected] was then linked with [email protected] so they would be interchangeable and I thought all was well. As it turns out my original Apple ID that I have used for iTunes purchases and all of my cloud operations is associated with my [email protected] email address (yet all of my iCloud mail, calendars, etc. does show when logged into this account. However I have a seperate Apple ID that has my [email protected] & [email protected] addresses verified. When I tried to clean up those associations so that my original Apple ID is verified with [email protected] & [email protected], it won't let me becuase it says that "another Apple ID, has verified those email addresses". I understand why they would do that, but the other Apple ID is mine. I would love to delete one of these Apple IDs, but I just don't know how to do it.
I could live with it, but it makes my Calender, Contacts, Bookmarks, and other data that sync to the cloud very messy. All of my data comes through with my orginal AppleID, for example I have included a screen shot where you can see that I have two iCloud accounts. the one below is not one that I use for my calendar at all.
If anyone can make sense of all of this I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance.

  • How do you create two apple ids for one email address.

I bought two i pads for my kids. Since we have just one email address, everytime I try to create a new apple id it says I already have one. They need separate ids so their friends can facetime with one and not the other. Can't figure out how to create two apple ids with one email address.

Well any ideas on how to solve this problem? When my daughter does facetime with someone it says she's Wyatt. She's not real happy about that.
Get her an email address, even if she never uses it.  They're free and available almost everywhere.  The only requirement is that the address be a valid one.
    Edit...
You can even use an "alias" of yours.  That's a fake address that actually sends everything to you.  Check with your current email supplier.

  • Somehow created two apple ids on the same email

    Hi there,
I recently gave my other half my old iPad, however she went to sign into her apple id/ iCloud account and in the process somehow changed my iCloud settings such as my password.
I tried signing in today and was prompted to enter the new password, which I had, however it seems to have created a brand new apple id, using the same email address as before. I'm unable to access my app purchases and the extra space I bought on the iCloud.
Some (metaphorical) wires seemed to have been crossed somewhere, I was just wondering if someone could help me out with this.

    UPDATE:
I've found the email address my other half has changed my apple id to. However when I try to access the icloud it asks me to set it up. All the files I had such as photos and contacts appear to have disappeared, so has the extra storage.
I've spoken to someone at Apple and they said they can still seem the extra content and all the files, however I'm still unable to sign into the account with the amended email address.

  • Is it possible to create two apple ID on one iTunes account?

I bought my wife an iPod Touch, how can I keep my contacts seperate from hers?

Phil, I am confused about your statement/answer:
""Is it possible to create two Apple IDs on one iTunes account?"
    Yes.  I have two."
    Apple says:
"An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID."
Thus an Apple ID is the same as the iTunes account.
Did you mean can yu use more than one Apple ID on one iPod because yuo know the answr is yes.

  • Using two apple IDs on one Itunes account

I recently purchases a ipad for my 86 year old mother. I want to also add music to it that I have cd's for. She now has an Apple ID of her own and I have my own Apple ID. The problem is this, when I log out of my itunes account and log in as her, I can still see all my music library as her. How do I see NOTHING under her account, until I actually load in music for her. Then can i sync her ipad using my OWN Mac and have it appear on her ipad? I have not enabled home sharing at all. Thank you!

  • Can't merge two apple IDs and can't download purchases from both onto the same iMac

Some time ago I discovered that I had inadvertently created two apple IDs. One that I had used many years ago as a student and then the other I created when I bought my first iPhone. These days I only use the newer account I created however I still own a few songs which were purchased on the older account back when I was a student. SO recently I logged into the older account to get those old songs that I'd purchased and download them onto my work iMac - GREAT! ...Right up until I wanted to now download some newer songs I'd recently purchased directly onto my iPhone using the new account - UH-OH! NOPE! I'm not allowed to download those songs for 90 days! Are you frickin kidding me?! They're both MY accounts! They're both linked to me - use the same details, same address, same credit card, same everything else!!! But apple won't let me download songs that I now own for 3 months onto my iMac because I happen to have two accounts. This is insanely ridiculous! I would happilly merge the two accounts if it was possible but of course there is no way to do this either. I understand that the intention is to stop people from sharing songs by linking to a friends apple ID and downloading their songs, however I am in no way trying to do this. I just want to have access to all the songs that I own on all my machines. I want to listen to songs that I have legitimately purchased on my work machine as well as on my iPhone, my iPad and my home iMac. Surely this is not too much to ask? C'mon apple!! Can't you find a way to either link/merge my two accounts or to verify that they both belong to the same person so I don't run into this problem? I don't think I should have to wait 3 months to get access to songs I have purchased!

    1. Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.
    2. Use the Transfer Purchases function to import them from the iOS devices, and manually move the iTunes libraries between the computers.

  • Combining two Apple IDs into a single account

I couldn't find what other forum to post this question in. Please direct me to one if there is one. Thanks.
I've accidentally created two Apple IDs and registered various hardware on each. I want to combine the two accounts into one.
    How can I do that?

    Hello,
    Unfortunately, you cannot do that.
We just don't have that option here. My recommendation would be to use whichever account you prefer the most.
If you have points of concern to you on the other account, then use it.
You can adjust either account to your own preferences. So, the only difference between one and the other will be the user name and registration date that is attached to it (which cannot be changed) and the number of posts and awarded points for questions you have answered.
I wish I could give you the answer you are wanting. But, unfortunately that just is not an option.
    Edit:
I just found that someone else has been discussing something similar here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=668526&tstart=0
You may find that discussion useful as well when considering the limitations and other factors that are affected.
    I hope this helps.

  • I have two Apple IDs.  I want to change the one my iPad is associated to to the other Apple ID.  How do I do that?

I created two Apple IDs out of confusion.  I'd like to delete one of them, but want to make sure my devices are associated with the one I want to keep.
How do I make sure my devices are associated to the right now?  And...How do I delete the Apple ID I don't want?
    Thx

You can't delete an Apple ID. Just don't use it. If you downloaded apps using the ID you want to delete, you won't be able to update those apps unless you use that ID.

  • I have two apple ids somehow, probably from two mobile and two computers - how do I merge them into one account so they all work with iCloud?

Somewhere, somehow, between two mobile and two macs, I ended up with two apple ids. I figured that this was the root of my problem to syncing. So, I am syncing Mail, Contacts, etc through the one account that I bought storage on this year in iCloud. I want to merge the two accounts, since many of my apps were purchased with my other id. Apparently, Keynote will not merge files since the app was bought with the second id, not the id I am using for icloud.
What to do??? I read, in the forums, that I am definitely not alone. I always had the id I used for the Apple Store to buy iTunes items, and then apps. The other id, that I am using for iCloud was based on my iDisk id, and apparently I set up as a separate account. The much failed iDisk account appears to be the one that I wish I never got involved with. Should I feel the same way about iCloud. If I cannot merge the two APPLE accounts from the same person (ME!!!), then many dropbox really is the answer for my file sharing needs.
    Please help me decide.

To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
To go back to your question; you cannot merge accounts, but perhaps using one account for iCloud and the other for iTunes will resolve the majority of the reasons you needed to merge to begin with.

  • Two Apple IDs, one iCloud ID, will it work?

Two Apple IDs, one iCloud ID, will it work?
In my house we have two iPhones and one Mac.  My husband and I have two separate Mac accounts, separate  iTunes accounts and one common Mobile Me account we use to synch Calendar and Address book between our Mac and our devices.  In our separate iTunes libraries we have separate songs, podcast settings, and separate apps.  We use one common iPhoto library for our two Mac accounts (which we keep on an external volume with Permissions disabled, to avoid file privilege issues in iPhoto.
It's all working well with MobileMe, but I'm concerned iCloud will make a big mess.
    We want common calendar.
    We want common address book.
We want separate Apps (no room for us both to have all apps).
We want some shared reminders (like shopping list) but some separate ones (like work tasks).  I understand there is a bug about this, but I don't know the resolution (https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/4/wo/lHQWT8NZajvGPvP 7ObMPj0/8.66)
We don't care much about common PhotoStream (as long as it works for one of us).
How can we make this all work, when we move to iCloud?
How do we control what synchs and what does not synch?
Has anyone done this kind of complex setup before?
    Thanks,
    Peter

I have this same issue and have since day one. I cannot seem to figure out how to get into icloud.

  • My family has multiple iOS devices, all with 1 Apple ID. With iCloud coming, should I create separate Apple IDs for each member of my family?

    Hello,
Between my family, we have 2 iPhones, multiple computers, iPads, and an Apple TV ALL tied in to the same Apple ID (the one I created when I got my first device). With iCloud coming, I wanted to know if I need to create separate Apple IDs for each family member (for emails, contacts, calendars, etc.). For instance, I would like to share certain contacts and a calendar with only my wife, all media between all family members, and have home sharing so that I can play/stream content on my Apple TV. Will there be a way to have multiple and distinct me.com accounts and yet share the same Apple ID?
Apologies for being verbose — just wanted to give ample info/background.
    Thanks,
    Jay.

I happened to stop at the Apple store yesterday for a separate issue and had a discussion about iCloud. Seems like this is how iCloud works (also, there's another thread on this forum that explains it well).
Each member of the family can have their own iCloud ID, which will be used for Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Apps, Bookmarks, Media, Photos, etc. and having this content synced automatically with a Mac (computer). The iCloud IDs work in tandem with the associated Apple ID — so while you cannot have multiple Apple IDs, you can certainly have multiple iCloud IDs tagged with a certain Apple ID.
While all this makes sense from the iOS device standpoint, I'm unclear on how things will sync with a Mac computer, especially if the family uses a single iMac with multiple login IDs for various members. For instance, I currently have an iMac and iTunes content resides in my Public folder, which my wife can still access when she logs in with her login ID. I'm guessing that I'll be able to set up her iCloud ID using her login, set up my iCloud ID using my login, while both our iMac logins will retain the same Apple ID. This would take care of syncing Photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc.
Another (not sure if unique) problem I face is our Address Book — right now, we have one GIANT address book with different groups set up. Certain groups sync to her iPhone, while others to mine. Some contacts are common between both of us. I'm hoping that if she/I updates a common contact, then the change will be reflected in both our groups of contacts. I hope this makes sense — for instance, I update a contact named Joe, and he's on my group of contacts in my iPhone. Hope iCloud updates the master contact card for Joe on the iMac, which would then automatically trigger the update on my wife's group of contacts—that Joe also belongs to— leading to an update on her iOS device as well.
    Apologies for the lengthy response..

  • Two Apple IDs, Two Icloud accts, two contact data bases??

Hi all, I hope you might help me sort this mess out. Thanks in advance.
I have two Apple IDs - one of those ids is tied to iTunes and is my primary account, as it is linked to the Itunes store, my Iphone and Ipad. It has 5gb of which 4 is used for backups, etc. Aside from all my Iphone stuff, the data of importance is my contacts db that includes all my iphone contacts.
The other Apple ID was issued by Apple when I started to use MobileMe. It has a me.com address.  When Apple moved to iCloud I got this account switched and also got 25gb of space that is good until Sept 2013. I have used about 2gb of space on that.  The only data of importance on it is the contacts, and this has a mix of some Iphone contacts as well as contacts I added as I was using one of the macs.
It seems that I did not grasp the limitations of Icloud and did not notice that my macs - MBP and MBA were and are storing my contact data using different accounts. Both contacts db's are full of duplicates as well as there are approx 200+ contacts that are in one or the other contact db, but not both.
So, I think I might merge the two into one contact db, then stop using the me.com acct.
To get to this state I would presume that I should export the contacts from both accounts, then open up one of them in the contact app of my choice, then import the second export, and then do the clean up.  Then I would upload the clean file back to my primary icloud acct.
By uploading a clean contact db that is corrected and duplicate free, how do I tell icloud to replace the db that is there with the one that I am uploading?
I have found nothing in tech articles, or discussions that suggest that the approach will work -- I am unsure that by uploading a clean contact db, I will not simply duplicate the names and addresses that are already there, along with adding the 200+ contacts that are not there.
Perhaps I delete the contact db from icloud - but again I see no information on that.

Then you should be able to just do the following:
On the Mac that is syncing contacts with the me.com iCloud account you are abandoning, open your contacts and export them as a vCard (File>Export>Export vCard).  Attach this to an email and send it to yourself.
Open the email on your other Mac and double-click on the attachment to import the contacts.  The contacts should be merged with the contacts already on this Mac, as well as to the iCloud account the Mac is syncing contacts with.
You can then clean up your duplicates by, for example, opening Address Book (Contacts) on your Mac, going to Card>Look for Duplicates, then merging any duplicates it finds.
You can then go to System Preferences>iCloud on the Mac that is syncing your me.com account, sign out of that account (which will delete any synced data), then sign into the iCloud account you are keeping and check the data you want to sync (which will sync the iCloud data to this Mac).

  • Is it possible to merge or sync two apple IDs that belong to me so I can access purchases from both in my iCloud?

When I got my iPad and was prompted to change my apple ID to an email address format one, I discovered I already had another apple ID using my email address - must have set it up years ago and not realised I had two apple IDs (I know - oops).
I am now trying to find a way to merge the two as they obviously both belong to me - so I can get all my purchases aligned to the one iCloud that is registered to my email ID.
Apple support can't help - has anyone had a similar problem and found a solution??

    carolinecl wrote:
I am now trying to find a way to merge the two ... Apple support can't help -
As you have already discovered... what you want is not possible.
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Does anyone else have two Apple IDs? I can't get rid of one of them. It's associated with my iCloud account and I can't fix it. The password doesn't work.

So, apparently I have two Apple IDs associated with my iPhone. One is an old aol address that got hacked and was shut down. Even aol doesn't recognize the email address anymore, and the password doesn't work. It's associated with my iCloud account, so now I can't access that account. My other Apple ID is with everything associated with my iPhone and everything works just fine. But now I can't get to my iCloud stuff. Has this ever happened to anyone else. The guy at the Apple store says he's never heard of it.
