Mobileme album from keywords

Can I define a mobileme album in Aperture from keywords or other metadata?
Now I define a smart album, "Italy 1951" by incorporating into it all images with the keywords "Italy" and "1951". I created a mobileme album of the same name by dragging the images from the smart album into the mobileme album.
Now, as I add images to the library with the same keywords, the smart album updates automatically. It would be most useful if the mobileme album would incorporate them as well --and update the online album at its next sync.
Can Aperture do this now?
Thanks for any help.
Rich

Upon further investigation of this new 'feature' I came upon the following.
In my above example, let's say I have my Library A open.
I can see the MobileMe albums of the other libraries (B and C) that do not belong in A.
I just clicked on a MM Album of library B and it is now synchronising the contents of this Album with my Library.
So now I have photo's of MM Albums B and C showing up INSIDE MY LIBRARY A
Good grief APPLE !
It get's even worse. The synced photo's manifest themselves inside smart folders, ilife media browser and iphone/ipad syncs !!!
I'm having genuine problems with some aspects of Aperture since version 3.0, there is an open bug in bugreporter that seems to be unsolvable, and after 8 months of bugfixing (february 3.0.1 to November 3.1) this is what they come up with ???
The worst part is that it seems this new 'feature' was intentional :

  • Updating sync between iphoto album and mobileme  album

I have created a 'mobileme album' from an album in iphoto. However when i add a new photo to the 'iphoto album' it does automatically sync into the 'mobileme album'. Should this happen or do i need to recreate the mobileme album every time?

    Neither
Just drag the new photo(s) to the MobileMe gallery in the source pane on the left under MobileMe galleries (and to the original album too as a backup) it will update automatically - do not make additional changes while it is updating - this may cause problems and duplications
MobileMe is updated when- and only when - you change the gallery in the MobileMe gallery section of your source pane.

  • How do I export a movie from imovie to a particular mobileme album

The Mobileme Gallery option in the Share menu of iMovie does not provide for exporting to a particular mobileme album. What is the best way to do this?

You can do it any of four ways.
    1) SHARE/to iTUNES
In this case you can right-click on the movie in iTunes and select reveal in Finder. Then open Facebook's video import page and navigate to your movie.
    2) SHARE/to Media Browser
I don't recommend this way because it is easy to inadvertently mess up an important file if you don't know what you are doing. But if you want to, you can find your movie inside the project RCPROJECT package in the movies folder.
Then open Facebook's video import page and navigate to your movie.
    3) SHARE/to Movie
You will get a dialog box allowing you to save the movie to a place of your choice. You can upload it to youtube from there.
    4) SHARE/Export to QuickTime. Here you can customize the setting of your video. Unless you have a great deal of knowledge about video and audio codecs, use the above options, which create great results for Facebook.

  • "Tell a Friend" email from MobileMe album - no images or formatting

When I use "tell a friend" from a MobileMe album, it usually calls up "mail" with fancy body text with images of the key album photo with links and a nice layout.
Now, when I use it, it just comes up with plain text as the email message. I don't know why or how I can change it back to the way it used to be.
I've tried rebuilding the iPhoto library using the cmd+option launch and checking the last three boxes. Anything else I have missed out? I'm not using any email encryption software as well. Just Apple "mail".
    Thanks,
    Howie

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Is your Mail preferences set for RTF formatting or just plain text? That might be the reason. Set it to RTF if it's not that already. Other than that try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, reboot and try again.

  • How can I import keywords and albums from iphoto 5?

I have new imac with iPhoto 7.1. I'd like to import the keywords and albums along with the pics from my old imac and iphoto 5. Photos import, but not tags or albums. Any suggestions?

    Roy
The trick is not to import, but to update.
Copy the library from the old mac to the new one, then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at this old one and it will update it to a v7 library, including albums and keywords.
If you already have a new library on your new machine, then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge them or to move the pics from the older to the newer.

  • MobileMe albums not visible in Aperture after upgrade from iPhoto

I've just upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture and all went well, except that my mobileme albums aren't appearing. I published a test album which worked, but my existing ones don't appear.
I've read on another thread that a dodgy character in an album name caused a similar problem but I can't see anything that looks odd in my mobileme album names.
    Any ideas?

I had the exact problem and found the solution here.

  • Mobileme Album List disappearing from Aperture Library

My MobileMe Album list disappeared from my Aperture Library a few days ago.
Aperture activity window shows "MobileMe - Retrieving Album List" every time I start up Aperture, and quits without error messages, but no album list appears.
Anyone know how I can get my MobileMe album list back?

  • Why do I find a duplicate export of a Smart Album in my Pictures folder every time I create a MobileMe Gallery Album from that Smart Album?

Using the last version of Aperture 2, I have noticed that every time I publish a Smart Album to my MobileMe Gallery, I find a duplicate of the album in a folder  with the same name as the Smart Album in my Pictures folder.  Why does that happen?  Can I prevent that?  If I can't prevent it, can I just send the folder to the trash without it having an effect on the Smart Album in Aperture or the MobileMe Album in my Gallery?

Select the album, Select all photos in the album, then click on the info button.   Number of photos and total size are on  top of info pane.

  • Seven of my albums from iPhoto 9.5.1 are no longer visible. The photos are still in iPhoto - is there a way to get the metadata back?

Seven of my albums from iPhoto 9.5.1 are no longer visible. The photos are still visible in iPhoto, but the albums are completely gone (another 10  albums are still visible). The missing albums are visible in iPhoto Library Manager (I downloaded the free version and when it loaded the library the missing albums were visible)
About 6 months ago 4 different albums disappeared and I assumed my kids had accidentally deleted them; however, they haven't been allowed to touch the computer since then, so I can't blame them this time! Last time I lost albums I spent hours re-creating them but I am hoping that there is an easier way of getting the metadata to function again - I know I could create a new library with iphoto Library Manager but I would have to buy the full version and can't afford to do that.
Not sure if it has anything to do with updating the application? (I updated recently and I'm not sure exactly when the albums disappeared.

Use the rebuild function in iPhoto Library Manager. That does not require a purchase. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • New Album from Smart Album makes NEW VERSIONS of all files? Bug?

Got what I think is an oddball bug here, but see if any of you have experienced it.
Making a new album of the contents of a Smart Album with about 600 images resulted in the SBOD, a lot of time and disk activity and the creation of NEW VERSIONS of all the files populating the new album. This, of course, also doubled the number of files in the original Smart Album, since the keywords used are a match. First thinking it might be something I had not read in the manual, I grabbed the book and could not find this behavior listed…..so….my expected result is a new album with the identical contents of the Smart Album selected as the source.
I am creating a presentation for a client whose work is in multiple projects in a ~150GB library. All images are heavily keyworded, so making Smart Albums of specific elements of the work was easy. My intended workflow to get through this mountain of pix was to make Smart Albums of specific elements, then make New Albums from each, manually edit and reorg these albums individually, then combine my edits into a single book file.
Now the structure leading to this problem is as follows:
    1) I created a single “main” folder to store all projects and other elements and hierarchy for this client. Clicking on this folder returns some 8500 images spanning multiple projects…all as expected.
    2) At the top level of this “main” folder, I made about 20 Smart Albums to presort the main elements I wanted to include. I made the first Smart Album by clicking the icon in the top bar. The rest of the smart albums I made by duplicating the previous Smart Album, then changing keyword selection. I would select the new keywords I wanted, then de-select the ones that were from the album I had duplicated. The reason I did it that was for speed, there is little delay in displaying the items that were already searched for, and a significant delay in going from new. Anyway, somewhere in this process, I decided to organize my workflow further, so I created a new folder (calling it Smart Album Selects) at the same level as the Smart Albums, and then dragged the Smart Albums into the new Smart Album Selects folder. Still, no problem.
    3) Later in my session, I went to create another new Smart Album, and this time I did so already in the Smart Album Selects folder. When I opened the HUD to select the keywords, the Keyword area and check box were greyed out!!! Weird, I though….so I simply duplicated an existing Smart Album from my Smart Album Selects folder, opened the HUD, and sure enough, all my keywords were there. I changed the keyword selection, and went on with work. During the day I did this same operation 3 more times, making 4 Smart Albums created the same way.
    4) OK…here is the strange behavior. To make my new custom album from the Smart Album selects, I selected one of the Smart Albums, and clicked on the New Album icon. Got the expected dialog, make with 1 image or all images, selected all images, and instead of a new album popping up moments later, I got the SBOD, and the Activity Monitor said Aperture and my hard disk was cranking away. About 4-5 minutes later, Aperture became responsive again, and had created a new album. However, upon inspection, the album contained NEW VERSIONS of all the images that were in the Smart Album, about 600 files.
    5) I went back and clicked on a different Smart Album in the same spot in the hierarchy…but it was one of the first ones I had created (meaning I built this BEFORE reorganizing into the Smart Album Selects folder). Tried making a new album again, with 1 image, worked fine, popped up instantly. Tried selecting 4 images, same thing, worked fine. Selected All, made album, worked fine.
    6) Went back to the Smart Album I had the problem with, this time selected 4 images, make New Album, and sure enough the New Album had NEW VERSIONS of the pix again…OK, I went back to the top of my folder hierarchy, my “main” folder and made a brand new Smart Album by clicking the icon, and selecting keywords. Made a new album from that, no problem, popped up instantly, no new versions.
    7) I then re-made all my Smart Albums at the top of the folder hierarchy, and they all work fine creating new albums. I got back to the task at hand…hopefully there is enough data here to let the Aperture engineers find this problem…Assuming, that is it is not just me misunderstanding some element in the program.
Sorry for the length, but has anyone else run into this??

Nope, all the images at this point in my workflow have been unstacked, with the non-picked members of the original stacks discarded.
Now that it seems I am not the only one who has witnessed this behavior, what I am really trying to find out, is what is the definitive proper operation of this according to the Aperture group at Apple.
Assuming I have opened a Smart Album with images displayed, and no images are selected.
    Is the correct behavior:
    1) Selecting New Album makes a new Untitled Album (very quickly) with the identical contents of the Smart Album....OR...
    2) Selecting New Album makes a new Untitled Album (slowly) with NEW VERSIONS of the contents of the Smart Album. (Also, depending upon the number of images, typically brings up SBOD and makes Aperture unresponsive until it is complete.)
Now what I expected to happen was #1, as it is what happens when I select New Album when a project is selected. Given Apple's human interface creedo for intuitive operation, I think this is the most intuitive choice, because I can't think of a good reason I would want to double the number of versions of all files in an album, unless I expressly told the app to do this.
Could an Apple guy provide the definitive answer, please...
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Automating creation of MobileMe Gallery from audio files in iTunes

    Hi
I am wanting to create a MobileMe Gallery of a few songs in my iTunes library. The only option to do this is to wrap MP3 files in a .mov container as MobileMe gallery doesn't support audio files. I have worked out all the necessary steps to do this and would now like to automate the process. Here is the sequence I follow manually:
    1. Select tracks in iTunes
    2. Convert these Apple Lossless files to MP3
    3. Add MP3 files to playlist
    4. For each track in playlist:
    5. Convert album image (.jpg) in album folder to max 640 width (so movies will play on iPhone)
    6. Open resulting image in Quicktime Pro
    7. Open Audio File in Quicktime Pro
    8. Copy Image and Paste into Audio File in Quicktime Pro
    9. Share File to Email using Quicktime Pro (this is the best way I've found of creating a small .mov file which just creates a container the same size as the image file and the audio file - presumably there's a way of exporting in the same way)
    10. Drag .mov file created from Email created to MobileMe Gallery in iPhoto.
    11. Repeat for each track
So I am looking for a way of automating this as much as possible, and wondering if applescript or automator would be the best way to go.
Ideally I would also like the script/automation to be able to create a .mov file slideshow of all images in the album folder (sometimes there is more than one image there), dividing the number of images by the length of the track (perhaps using the 'Add to selection and scale' feature in Quicktime Pro).
Finally one issue I am experiencing - converting the image file to max width 640 does allow the movie file to be played in the MobileMe Gallery from an iPhone, but the file that opens in the Movie Player on the iPhone doesn't show the image(s) in the .mov file, it just plays the audio. I wonder why this is happening?
Any advice on any of this would be much appreciated!

  • Transfering an album from an iPod to my computer.

In iTunes, how do I find and update album information that was not originally imported using iTunes?
The artist information for every track on an album accidentally got erased from my iPod while I was listening to it on my computer. Originally when I imported the CD onto my computer, I did not have an iPod yet and did not use iTunes to import it. After getting an iPod, I decided to add this album to it. To make space one day, I erased the album from my computer since it was already on my iPod. I have lost the particular CD that I originally made the mp3 album from.
My iPod is nearly full now, so I can't put it in disk mode and copy my whole iTunes library to it and then automatically manage my library, as this site recommends (I thought maybe doing that would enable me to find the album information using a non-Apple solution).
I have ran out of ideas and can't seem to find anything that is at all helpful to me for this issue anywhere that I have looked on the Apple website. Does anyone know how to let me have my album and the information about it back without breaking the law or Apple's rules?

It is absolutely possible. Connect your ipod to the computer. After iTunes recognizes it, go to the Info tab in the ipod screen. There you will see sections for MobileMe, Contacts and Calendars. In the middle you can sync your contacts with Yahoo, Windows Contacts, Google & Outlook. Pick the one you want. I assume you'd either go with Windows Contacts or Outlook since you're syncing with your computer.
After checking the box for "Sync contacts with:" it will default to all. Then at the bottom right of iTunes, the "Sync" button will go away and Cancel and Apply buttons appear. Hit apply. Don't worry, all of the contacts that are on the ipod that are not on the computer will be saved. It will essentially make both the ipod contacts and the Windows/Outlook contacts identical.
    Hope this helped.

  • IPhoto is removing my albums from mobile me and refiling photos individually. it is destroying all my work and gives me no option to stop this. Help please!

How do I stop IPHoto from systematically removing all my albums from Mobile Me and placing the photos back into its files. With each album it says it is doing this, providing an OK box but no CANCEL, and the program freezes. How can I cancel this??

You can control this from Mail Preferences on your computer.  Open Mail, go to Preferences, and select Accounts.
Go to your MobileMe account and select Mailbox Behaviors.  Next to Trash, select Store Deleted Messages on the Server.

  • PSE9/Win 7: Create album from resized files?

    I use PSE 9 on Windows 7.
I used File/Process Multiple Files to resize a large number of my images.
Now all of those resized files are in one Windows folder.
They have the same filenames as the original files.
I'd like to bring those resized files back into PSE and create an Album out of them.
Is there any way I can do that without getting lots of duplicate entries in my Catalog?
If I rename them I think I'll have a similar problem because they have the same tags saved in them
    as the original do.
I resized them so they would fit on my iPad. The album is a very easy way to get them to
    the iPad via iTunes.
Thanks for any help or advice.

Well, I used Process Multiple Files to rename all of the files. All of the files are in one folder in Windows.
7,480 jpgs that take up 1.43GB on Windows.
So I imported that folder into PSE. Along with the keywords in those images.
Then I created an album from that set.
I used iTunes to Sync the PSE album.
It sent the 7,480 photos to my iPad and iPhone.
But on my iPad the Photos now take 6.5GB. And on the iPhone 4.5GB.
So that's a bit strange. I talked to Apple and they are looking into it.
I think it has something to do with the 'iPod Photo Cache' folder that gets created.
I think that folder keeps copies of the images that are optimized for each iOS device.
But why it needs to increase the size by 400% seems odd.
I use the Smart Photo Album app on the iPad to work with my photos.
It reads the keyword tags. And allows a search refinement somewhat like Organizer.
I think once the files are on the iPad/iPhone I can actually unhook that folder from PSE.
I've got my Photostream folder set up to be Watched by PSE Organizer. So any new photos
I take with the iOS devices pop up in PSE for me to tag, etc.
Now I need to create a Smart Album for all the pictures that have not yet been sent to the iOS devices.
And I may not have to do that if I just take pictures with my iPhone/iPad.
So this is interesting and does seem to be working out.
I love having all of these pictures on my iPad.

  • Moving MobileMe albums

Now that MobileMe (MM) is no longer in use, I keep getting a "Moving MobileMe albums..." information box whenever i open iPhoto. This is after a dialogue box that informs me the MM is no longer available. There is nothing I can do but accept that I would like to continue after this dialogue box.
The screen will now just sit like this in iPhoto and just hang there. There is no message saying that iPhoto is not responding and no "beach ball". This locks up my iPhoto and there is nothing I know how to do to get past this.
Any assistance/ advice would be great. How can I get to use my iPhoto once again?

Quit (or force quit) iPhoto, if it is still hanging.
When the " MM is no longer available" dialog box appears, select "Learn More", and not o.k.
Open the iPhoto Preferences, select the "Accounts" tab, and remove the "MM" account.
If this is not possible, disconnect from the Internet (turn of Wi-fi or unplug the ethernet), before you launch iPhoto again, then delete the MM account from the  iPhoto Preferences "Accounts" tab.
After this, open the System Preferences, MobileMe panel and sign out of MobileMe.
