Mobileme and iweb as a good website host

I was wondering if you guys know if mobileme is a fast website host for a popular blog, or are there faster ones. My blog www.applejunky.tv is becoming more successful and getting pretty good traffic (enough to earn a little google adsense revenue). Should I switch hosts or keep mobileme?
Thanks
www.applejunky.tv

If you have built your blog using iWeb you will lose the commenting feature if you publish anywhere other than MobileMe
The Apple server seems to be faster than it used to be but reliability is not its strong point and tech support is weak.
The blog is not iWeb's greatest feature and the general advice in this forum is to move to Wordpress. Lots more features, more reliable and you can publish to a better equipped hosting service.

  • Why did Steve decide to eliminate superior products like MobileMe and iWeb and not just raise the price?

I've been looking into moving 3 web sites that I easily created using iWeb and Mobile me and it is unbarably difficult to use what non Apple users have to put up with.   I was so happy that I could throw a site together for someone and it would just work.   Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality.    Why didn't Apple just raise the price if it was unprofitable?     MobileMe and iWeb are a GREAT service to Apple customers.    I feel this discontinuation is very unfortunate for many.

Actually, the discontinuation of MobileMe is an opportunity to move on to more professional website hosting and management.  MMe is just too social networking oriented and lacking in serious webstite hosting capability.
Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality
You've got to be kidding!  Web hosting that has more hosting features that MMe had is readily available for as little as $3.95/mo. That's only $48/year - aboiut 1/2 of what MMe costs.  Included are a domain name, unlimited storage and transfer, subdomains, multiple email addresses, advanced security features and, something MobileMe never had, 24/7 actual ear-to-ear customer support! What a novel idea.  Actually quickly contacting and talking to a real person to get help on a problem.
I moved about 30 websites from MMe to my new host in about an hour once the new server was setup. This describes how I did it: iW13 - Easily Transfer Website Folders From MobileMe to a 3rd Party Server.
This tutorial explains how I host multiple sites with just one domain name: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb. The same can be done with subdomains but the folder method I used was easer in my opinion.
Depending on your website's design and intented use iWeb an still be a viable web builder.  However, for more complex websites and connecting with mobile users one will have to begin using other applications.  Read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
You can move you 3 websites to a new host in no time and save money doing it.

  • MobileMe and iWeb

Hello. I'm trying to upload webpages from iWeb to MobileMe for the first time. For some reason, iWeb thinks I own the domain name www.katiehughes.com and tries to post the pages there.
I don't have any domain name and have never told MobileMe that I do. In fact, I am not offered a choice of where to host the pages when I try and publish the site (which is what is suggested in the tutorial videos).
I've also tried deleting the library and cache files as suggested elsewhere on the site.
    Anybody able to help?
    Russ

For some reason, iWeb thinks I own the domain name www.katiehughes.com and tries to post the pages there.
It doesn't actually try to "post the pages there." The only place it can post your pages is web.me.com/username, even when it says otherwise down at the bottom. So it really doesn't matter as far as what is happening to your site.
But go to your MobileMe account settings/personal domain and delete anything which is in there. If nothing is there, you might put in a nonsense url and see if that will replace katiehughes, and then delete that later.

  • I created a website with iWeb but use GoDady for hosting it rather than MobileMe. The images on my Gallery page do not show at all on the external domain but they DO show when seen on MobileMe. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Many thanks!

    Hello al!
I created a website with iWeb but use GoDady for hosting it rather than MobileMe. The images on my Gallery page do not show at all on the external domain but they DO show when seen on MobileMe. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Many thanks!

Just create a new page (or use the existing photo page) on your external site and use html to add an iframe sized to the page and link it to the mobilme gallery page. Works for me just fine when showing my gallery from a yahoo site.
    like this
    <iframe scrolling="off" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="yes" style="width:100%;height:100%;border:none" src="http://gallery.me.com/your_account_name"></iframe>

  • Is there a good website creation app on the iPad, or should I save up and get a MacBook to use RapidWeaver/iWeb?

Is there a good website creation app on the iPad, or should I save up and get a MacBook to use RapidWeaver/iWeb?

Wasn't being condescending, this is a new thead that continues one he already started asking if he could get iWeb on the iPad. Two people explained to him that iWeb was being discontinued (along with MobileMe) and suggested Rapidweaver and two other apps as replacements. It was also explained to him that there were no web creation apps on the iPad because you need to run a local web server, such as Apache, on your computer in order to use them. This is why they work on the Mac because it does have such a server. The iPad does not have one and cannot run one. And I suggested using HTML code if he wanted to develop on his iPad.
You were aware that is how web creation software works?
    Here is the other thread:

  • Old Host - now on MobileMe and I'Life 09 to create IWeb

Originally, I signed up with a Host and subsequently they gave me an e-mail with my company extension i.e. info@_______. I developed my website on IWEB 08 only to discover that I was unable to download to an FTP server so I upgraded to IWEB 09...however, if I stay with my original host - I understand that I will not be able to use certain features i.e. hit counter, comments, etc. OK so....I signed up for MobileMe....now where do I go from here....Shall I publish my site through mobileme but then what about my old host who is also looking after my e-mail address....shall i call them and have them direct my info to .mac (I want to retain my current e-mail address etc.) I have not technically published my site but I do have it in a folder on my desktop to make changes?? I just don't know what to do first in order to avoid the "hard lesson learning curve" I have been challenged with up to this point. Ultimately, I would like all of my eggs in one basket - hosting/e-mail/ilife/iphone etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated....!!! Thanks.

You need to publish your site to MobileMe and then forward your domain name to your site published at MobileMe.
You need to find out if your hosting company offers CNAME forwarding and then you need to go to your MobileMe account and enter your domain name into the personal domain name settings. Then go to the DNS settings at your host and set up a new CNAME so that you forward your domain name to web.me.com. You can still keep the same e-mail address with no problem.
If you are unsure about any of this then contact your domain name registrar/hosting company.
You also don't need to publish to a folder if you want to publish to MobileMe and forward your domain name.

  • Since Apple is no longer providing MobileMe, and since my version of iWeb only has the option of publishing to mobile me (the "upgrade" eleviated the "publish to folder" option), how do I publish my web page to a remote host?

I used to have an amazing home page that I used with my students:
    http://hansen.osd.wednet.edu/media/hansen/msamson/MrSamsonHome/Home.html
The school district "UPGRADED" to the new operating system.  iWeb, which I have been using for years, no longer supports my ability to publish to the district server.  Apple thought it wise to force us to use MobileMe.  Furthermore, Apple decided that MoblieMe is no longer unavailable.  To add insult to injury, the new version of iWeb doesn't even have a "save to folder" option any more.  In other words, I can no longer use iWeb.
    Am I totally screwed?
Is there another way to publish my site?
Will Apple make me purchase yet another "upgrade"?
Is this a total rip off?
    Mr. Samson
ps.  As a loyal Apple customer (since 1982), I find these antics very frustrating.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest iWeb version while copies are still availalbe: iLife '11 - Apple Store (U.S.).  That's because it's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery

There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

  • Having a hard time selecting an iWeb website host

Now that MobileMe is gone and my website is down (yes, i missed the memo)... im researching hosts and having a hard time choosing.
I would like unlimited storage as I have a lot of photos on my site.
RAGE sounds good but seems pricey.
I'm looking for a company familiar w/iWeb so that if there are any issues I have some assistance.
I have searched the community and googled and keep getting just a few answers.  Nothing that really gives me a solid sense about the companies.  And it seems that RAGE does a lot of self promotion posing as customer which seems a bit sketchy.  I might be completely wrong but thats the sense Im getting from the videos and results I'm finding.
Is there a site that gives solid reviews of the web hosting companies?
Where have people here moved their iWeb website to?
    Thanks

I have been using IX Webhosting for about 4 years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.
As far as the unlimited is concerned they just do not set any pre-determined space or bandwidth.
I have several websites hosted on my hosting plan ( I am currently using the expert plan ) and haven't ran into any space issues here is my bandwidth (traffic) & disk space usage.

  • Is MobileMe a regular website host like Fat Cow, etc.?

    Hi,
I was looking at the various website hosts like Yahoo!, Fat Cow, etc. so that I can start a website for a small business. Then I remembered MobileMe and the iWeb software. I was wondering if a MobileMe account can be used like these other website hosting services? Would I be able to use a registered domain name like www.mydomain.com, or would I be able to register through MobileMe?
Also, I was wondering if there were any services that could be embedded like PayPal, or an Amazon.com link.
    Thanks!

  • IWeb, Blogging and Comments when using a different Host

    Hi
I have an iWeb site, using Google Domain name, and hosting services of Network Solutions. I want to add a Blog to my site but allow for comments. Currently, iWeb is telling me that comments are added only if I use my MobileMe account. Is there a way to have a blog in iWeb, publish through my current host and have a comment feature that will update properly without kinks? I am considering using Blogger (Google) but unsure of what to do. Any suggestions or realities are accepted! Thanks

Just use Blogger or WordPress to create your blog and then you can place a link on your website to your blog. Either that or you can display your blog directly in your site by using iframe code.
Your other alternative is to use the iWeb blog and use something like http://www.intensedebate.com as a comment feature. You could include it on the same page as the blog or put it on a different page.
Personally, I don't like the iWeb blog, so I use WordPress for my blog and just keep a link to it from my site so that it goes straight to the blog and then opens in a new page.

  • I have just uploaded my iWeb site to a FTP host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone very strange!  How can i get it to publish the same as I designed it?  Thanks in advance....

Please help!  I have just uploaded my iweb site to a FTP Host and most of the site is ok however a lot of the text has gone wrong!  Many thanks...

Maybe you could let me know which hosting service you are using so that I can add them to my list of those NOT recommended for iWeb users!
I just dealt with one today who claimed the iWeb sites were incompatible and that the first line of code should be deleted from every HTML file before upload to their server.
They didn't even offer the information that it would be a lot easier to modify the .htaccess file never mind offer to do it for a customer.
Nobody should expect to pay for service like this and the answer is to dump them and go to a company that gives you some value and support for your money. If the ones on this page don't meet your requirements for cost and service...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... search this forum for those recommended by other users. There's a long list of them.

  • Website won't show on my domain and iweb says it uploaded

I just uploaded my iweb 09 site to my new domain name that I purchased today. The site still shows the godaddy banner. how long does this usually take to show? am I missing some other step?
    Thanks for the help!

What you need to remember when linking like this is that if you are publishing directly to MobileMe, then you are not publishing your site to GoDaddy. You are publishing to MME and then linking your domain name from GoDaddy to MME.
To achieve this, you firstly need to log into your MME account and enter your domain name under the personal domain name settings at MME. Did you do this? If not, then you need to.
Secondly, you need to go to the DNS settings at GoDaddy and set up a new CNAME, so you would need to enter your domain name as the alias and web.me.com as your host. So it would be something similar to www, CNAME, web.me.com and @ (this is for the short form of your domain name) CNAME, then enter the host at web.me.com.
Go and check that you did all this and it should be up and running in less than 24 hours.

  • Our iCal is refusing to refresh, we're using mobileme and that account all looks good. Just suddenly refusing to refresh. Have resubscribed everyone, just don't know what's up with it? Any ideas? we rely on it to keep everyone on schedule!

Doh, I thought I had to cram the question into those few words - didn't realise it wa sa title! Our iCal has just recently refused to automatically refresh - if you delete it and subscribe again it won't let you. All machines affected. We use MobileMe and I've been on the account and all looks good. Is there someone we can phone to talk this through? We're a mag so we really need to all work on the same schedule and know who is off etc? Any clues?
    Cheers

Have you got a firewall? - these can sometimes cause problems.
If you are in a business environment and all on the same LAN, you might like to consider abandoning MobileMe and buying BusyCal. It's like iCal Pro in effect, with more facilities, including the ability to display ToDos in the day area: it uses the same database as iCal.
You would revert to local calendars, and BusyCal can sync them instantly between computers on the same network, with read/write access if required. (Syncing can only take place when Macs are on).
It's available in the Mac App Store and their site has a free trial period (it's more expensive on the site so you would want to delete the trial and buy from the App Store).

Instructions on publishing on a server - http://www.busymac.com/help/sync/busycal-lan-host.html
It's possible to do all this over the internet, though it's more complicated - http://www.busymac.com/help/sync/busycal-wan.html
I have no connection with this firm.

  • Invalid security certificate for my website host-they say the problem is Apple Safari and use Firefox instead

For the past few days, I keep getting an invalid security certificate in Safari whenever I select Edit My Site from my website homepage (http://annaporterartist.com), or whenever I select anything requiring a secure log in from my website host main page (FASO.com). I have contacted technical support at my website host (fineartstudioonline.com) and they say that this has been an intermittently recurring problem in Safari for years and they recommend that I use Firefox instead. As proof of this they emailed a link to an Apple Support discussion, but it was for Mac OS X Lion v 10.7.4 and Safari 5.1, even though I told them I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion v 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.2. I do not get this error message anywhere else on the web using Safari. I did try Firefox and it seems to work fine, but I prefer Safari and I want to know why Safari is not working as it should be. I am concerned that there is a real security problem with my website host and I need someone to explain why I am getting this error message, what it means, and if it is, in fact, a known problem with Safari or is my website host corrupted? Really tired of technical support playing pass the buck or pretending the problem does not exist.
    The specific error message is:
