MobileMe and working on a site between multiple Macs

In an article I was reading, the following was noted:
iDisk balks at file packages like iWeb's Domain.sites2 file, making it +difficult for MobileMe users to work on an iWeb site between multiple Macs+.
Does that mean working at the same time? Or, if for example I'm doing my site on my personal iMac, and then went to college or wanted to work on a MacBook for instance, cannot I complete working on my site through MobileMe?
I may not be getting it clear.
Thanks.

if for example I'm doing my site on my personal iMac, and then went to college or wanted to work on a MacBook for instance, cannot I complete working on my site through MobileMe?
The point is that to work on an iWeb site with two computers, both must have a copy of the Domain file. There are various ways to do that, like using a memory stick or Dropbox. But uploading and downloading from MobileMe is most likely not practical.

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

  • Flash player 11.0.1.152 not working on all sites. Using Mac OS 10.5.8

What am I missing?  Flash didn't work properly on previous version either.  I use google chrome primarily but flash does not work on all sites using Firefox or Safari either.  I have a Macbook Pro operating on 10.5.8.  I'm sure it's probably a simple fix but I just haven't found it.  Appreciate any help on the matter.

I have spent countless hours trying to get my flash player working and have tried EVERY kind of possible answer through many forums and websites to solve this. Does adobe have anything currently that will solve this flash player problem?? I have the lastest version of Safari 5.1.1. and I have the lastest version of adobe flash player 11.0.1.152, I have even tried the debugging installs adobe put out for flash player. I have tried the "working around lion flash player video thing" where you try private browsing. I have tried going into system preferences and entering into the flash player settings in the storage tab the allow this sites, etc. NOTHING HAS WORKED!! I still get my local storage pop up message whenever I try and watch a you tube or any site that has flash video on it, that flash player settings box still pops up and is stuck on my screen and I cant click allow or deny or get it off. So many people I have read have the same problem and I only the same answers pop up that I have tried again and again, does anyone have a real resolve to this yet??? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP.

  • Simple Way to Track Photos Between Multiple Macs?

Hello, everyone. I hope you are doing well.
My wife and I take photos and video with 2 different iPhones, a Nikon SLR, a Panasonic compact digital, and a Flip HD video recorder.
I put the photos I take on my Mac Pro. She puts the photos she takes on her iMac.
I was wondering if there was an AppleScript or some automated way for me to see which photos and videos that I have on my Mac Pro that aren't on her iMac.
I realize I can now Share my entire Library with her iMac, but I'm guessing the performance of streaming thousands of 5-7 meg photos and 30-100 meg movies isn't that great. However, to be honest, I haven't tried it yet.
But my guess is I need a way to identify the images/videos I have that she doesn't have and then copy them over to her iMac.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you so much!
    Scot

How are your two Macs connected? Do you have a hard wired LAN? If so then the optimal way of sharing a library between the two Macs is to put a single library on an external FW hard drive connected to one of the Macs and have both of you use the same library, but not at the same time. If you go this route you can merge your two existing libraries into a new library with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager and eliminate any duplicates in the process.
If you're connected wirelessly it's not recommended to run/share a library wirelessly as you will encounter occasional dropouts and that can corrupt the library. When that happens you're in a good position of losing all your organizational efforts. You'll not lose the photos/movies, just the organization and you may have to create a new library from the existing original files in the damaged one.
If you want to be able to keep both your libraries identical as to content you can use iPhotoSync
    Here's how it works:
    1 - it compares the databases and/or album.xml files of Libraries A and B.
2 - the files in A that are not in B are imported into B by copying the original files from A into B's Import folder.
3 - it then does the same for B.
4 - metadata is not copied.
5 - it can be password protected to prevent unauthorized use.
It can be used to just copy from A to B and not sync both ways if desired.
Any keywords, titles, places or faces added in one library will not be copied with the photos to the other library - just the photos get copied.

  • Working one iWeb site from two Macs

I have two Macs, and use my desktop for working at home, and my laptop for working away, or when on holiday for working with photographs and, hopefully, blogs. I set up my iWeb site initially using the desktop, and then tried to edit the site using my laptop, only to find that it cannot, seemingly, be done.
Help! Does anyone know how to edit one iWeb site from two machines, or is there, perhaps, a practicable workaround?
    G4 laptop +G4 desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
    G4 laptop +G4 desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
    G4 laptop +G4 desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on your desktop machine at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on your laptop. Launch iWeb and you'll see your desktop site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect:

  • Screen Sharing and SSH sessions freeze occasionally on multiple mac minis

I have 28 Mac Minis at work. With such a large number of minis, I obviously can't have a monitor attached to each of them so I've got them plugged into a network switch and access them via Screen Sharing (both via regular Screen Sharing and ARD) and SSH sessions.
A few of them seem to suffer from intermittent problems however. I'll be using Screen Sharing when the session freezes. It may unfreeze eventually, but I can also usually just quit out and re-connect and it will be unfrozen. The same thing happens when I'm connected via SSH, it will freeze and I won't be able to type in any more commands.
I need help troubleshooting (or if anyone knows what could be causing this, that'd be cool too).
I've tried connecting from both a Mac Pro on the wired network and a MacBook Pro on the wireless network. The freezing seems to only happen on certain Mac Minis as well.
I've tried switching network cables from a Mac Mini that doesn't suffer from this problem with one that does and nothing changed.
I also thought it might be a bandwidth issue at first, despite being a gigabit switch connected via cat6 to the rest of our gigabit network, but even when no significant bandwidth is being used, the freezing still occurs.
One more thing I want to test is the connection between the switch all these Mac Minis is plugged into and one of the other switches that all our other network traffic goes through. I didn't set it up myself so I fear that it might be an old, damaged cable or something. Failing that, I have no idea what the problem could be, which is why I'm posting here.
So, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Or any other ideas for troubleshooting the problem? Thanks.
(They're all running 10.6.8, and range from Mid-2007 to 2009 models).

It would be in the system log. However, the next step would be to safe-boot in order to eliminate third-party system modifications. That goes for both client and server. If you can reproduce the problem in safe mode, then you probably have a network issue. Take everything offline except one client and one server, and test.

  • "Sharing" Updates Between Multiple Macs?

So I have three Macs in the house now, one iMac, and two Macbooks. So When there is a big update, I currently have to download the same update three times. Is there a way to download the package once on one computer and distribute it to the others across my LAN?

Every update is eventually posted at http://www.apple.com/downloads/ Download them, install them manually after transferring them to the other machines.

  • Sharing iOS updates between multiple Macs on same home network

    Good morning -
Does anyone know if it it's possible to share the iOS update file from one Mac to another? I downloaded iOS 4.3.1 for my iPhone 4 this morning, but if I can avoid having to download it all over again on my wife's Mac for her iPhone, that would be great! If the file is in the Finder somewhere, I would think I could move it over using File Sharing...
    Thanks for any help!

there is no problem doing that on a windows machine on a windows machine you just press shift and restore in itunes and point to the downlloaded firmware file

  • Sync iTunes Between Multiple Macs?

I have a 3 Mac network. Is it possible to have iTunes on one machine running a playlist, and the other computers playing the exact same music that is playing on the main machine? I would like to walk from room to room and hear the same music at each machine? How do I do this?
    Kevin Hawkins

If you have a main library with all of your music you could simply share the music and then stream it across the network to the other macs.

  • Help with running iWeb on multiple computers and find the current site

I have two Macs and MobileMe. I have usually run iWeb on the laptop and have my website on it. I thought I saved the site in MobileMe. When I go to the desktop and open iWeb it opens up an old version of my site. I search for Domain and none of the options are the current site. On my laptop (the current iWeb version) I opened MobileMe's iDisk and tried a couple of the "Domains" that live on it and none of them are the current version. Now, I can't even get my laptop to open the one I had opened a few moments ago beacuse I can't find the newest domain. So, where is my current domain/ I can't find it.
I do have a folder on iDisk called "Sites" that contains the HTML files and folders of my current site but I can't seem to get this to open in iWeb. But, this folder does contain the current version but none of the Domain files I have opened refer to these I guess.
    What should I do?
    Guy
PS I am running the latest iWeb on both computers

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As you know for both of you to edit and update the web site both of you must be using the same version of iWeb and working on the same Domain.sites2 file.
See MacWorld's online article Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs. However, there are a couple of caveats: 1 - only one can be editing and uploading at a time; 2 - allow plenty of time for Dropbox to update all copies of the domain file.
What I would do is when you plan on editing the site copy the domain file that's in your Dropbox as a backup. Do you editing and publish. If something goes wrong you'll have the good domain file that was copied just before you started editing. If the site is small and, thus, the domain file the updating will be better insured. Keep both computers online much of the time so the updates will go thru as soon as they are made.

  • Synk Addressbook over multiple macs?

This question has probably been asked multiple times but searching for "synk" doesn't bring anything up.
I use "Foxmarks" to synk bookmarks between multiple macs
I use "Busy synk" to synk iCal between multiple macs
Is there no plug-in or utility that can synk my addressbook except signing up for mobileme?

You might have better luck searching for "sync."

  • Synch mail to multiple macs

is there a way to synchronize mail, including multiple email accounts and folder structure between multiple macs using cloud services such as dropbox?
For instance is there a pst file I could copy to dropbox and later upload from dropbox that would make mail more portable? Sort of like restoring mail from a backup, except on a different machine.

    Hello Sangvir,
As stated, you can create multiple actions (if you do that, don't forget to properly tune the action merging). This is the best option, because involves only configuration.
You can also add a few ABAP code in a new implementation of the standard send mail method and add multiple mail destinations in the "To" or "CC" fields. This is simpler than sounds to be. Ask for an ABAPper to analyze the method source code and he/she will adapt it for you in a question of hours.
    Best Regards,
