MobileMe blog publishing problem

I have written a number of pages in a first time ever blog then published it to MobileMe. It seemed like everything went well, but then I received a message that said "publish error? What went wrong?

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • Publishing Problems - a Solution?

For a long time I'd sympathised with all you people who'd been having publishing nightmares, even though I've been updating pretty much error free since iWeb 1.0
Then last night after updating my blogs and making a few changes, I finally got the dreaded error messages. Tried a few times, got frustrated, and decided to sleep on it.
Same this morning ... grrr ... but then I noticed that my iDisk had failed on auto-synchronisation.
I'd only mounted my iDisk recently to amend my Podcast feed, so on a hunch I unmounted iDisk, rehit the Publish button in iWeb, and holy shmoly – it worked straight off!
I reckon that publishing iWeb kicks off the iDisk auto-sync, and then you've got a conflict with iDisk and .Mac trying to outsync each other.
Anybody else found this? if this solves publishing problems for a few of you then great. If it works for a lot of you, even better. If the majority of you get sorted, then that's a revelation!

    My message to Apple stated:
"My pages go through the "create" process then start
on the "publishing" process then come back with an
error message that tells me to check my internet
connection (which is fine at 2 different locations. I
spent 13 hours fighting this yesterday. It has
created a major problem for me -- and this just after
I paid an extra hundred dollars to upgrade my
broadband. Your telephone people tell me you're
working on this. Please advise when it will be fixed
so I don't waste another 13 hours today."

Richard, thank you for writing this. I would like to know how this all shakes out, and I am glad that it is an Apple server problem and not mine.
Meanwhile, I want to say how helpful it is to have this iWeb forum, and also thank the very generous and thoughtful souls who take the time to help beyond what normally would be expected. Those people know who they are, but I also am grateful to everyone.
For example, I was greatly relieved to read that I was not the only person getting Network Failure messages, since it meant that probably I was not working with a defective application -- one that started out fine but somehow went south on me and would not be replaced by Apple. This may seem a trifling thing to some, but when you are in a spot that you perceive as Hot, assurance from the outside is very much appreciated.
I hope that when you all finish your websites, you post the URL so we can all see it; after all, in a sense we are all comrades in arms (because sometimes it can seem like a war, due to the Fear Factor) and our fates are somehow connected even though we are all so-called strangers.

  • Unexpected Publishing Problems

I have been using iWeb for almost two months with no publishing problems. I publish to a folder then ftp it to my yahoo server. However, last night I began to experience publishing problems. iWeb publishes just the first five pages of my site then I get a message that an unexpected error occurred. No other clues as to why it could be happening.
The last change I made was an adding a podcast. I deleted that podcast thinking that maybe iWeb didn't like the taste of it and tried to publish but it still won't work. I've tried about 10 times, with my screen saver turned off, battery charger plugged in, and no other apps running.
    Please help me!

    Here's the latest...
I realized that iWeb stopped publishing at the same page (I have 30+ pages on my site. It would always stop at the fifth one). So, I rearranged the order of that page, dragging it down to the very bottom of my site list. When I went to publish to folder, iWeb published everything then stopped again at that specific page. So here I thought I had isolated the issue.
I created a new site and dragged the problematic page into it. I then created a brand new page in my main site and copy/pasted the old content into it. Ergo: a whole new page. I went to publish with iWeb cranking along nicely until it got to the NEW version of that page and then it crapped out. Again.
I am guessing that one of the images (or who knows what, really) is messing with iWeb's fragile ego. I am going to reconstruct the page with brand new copies of the images that were on it. Images, by the way, that published fine for almost a month and that I didn't alter at all.
Wish me luck all. I'll keep you posted.

  • Publish Problems

    More Publish Problems!
Ok... So now that I have been working on my sites when I publish I get "Publish Error" an unknown? Help... I am using iWeb 1.1.1 and thought that this word be an easy way for students to get access to some pod casts... Now what? This worked before using 1.1.1
Sometimes it works and most of the time it will not publish? What can I do?
    Thanks

Oh my god I am not a lunatic idiot after all!
I am currently in discussion with Apple Support for exactly the same problems as you guys, all I did was add a new video to my site. The first few times the update timed out as it was taking more than 30 minutes to upload (I am on broadband and the new page was only 7 meg). Then I got the ".Mac servers were busy please try later" message, then I got the "check your isp.." gubbins. Then when I tried again it said the update was successful but when I visited the site (via a number of different computers and networks) I either could not access the site at all, or it partly loaded, or the welcome page loaded correctly but when going to other pages I got nothing!
I am currently waiting for Apple Support to " get back to me"

  • Another user with publishing problems -- proof that it is .Mac related

Just before Christmas I started getting the dreaded "Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac" message every time I published. I read all the previous posts, even the ones dating back to October. I think I can conclusively show that the problem is on the .Mac backend, and not at all on my computer. Here is what I did: first, I created a temporary .Mac account; second, I moved my Domain file for safe keeping and did not replace it; third, I logged into the Guest User account that is now available in Leopard. I then attempted to publish a single page website from iWeb from both my normal login and the guest login to both my normal .mac account and the temporary one. (To switch between .Mac accounts I used the system preferences panel when iWeb was not running). The results are as follows:
    .......................Regular .Mac.......Temporary .Mac
    Normal Login..Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
    Guest Login.....Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
This tells me that there is no problem on my computer, or with my network connection, and the problem is squarely on the .Mac side of things.
I sent this message off to the standard help page, and got the standard form letter back. In reply I asked them to reset my .Mac account so it would appear "new". I'll see what they say.
It would be interesting to see how many other people with "publish" problems can repeat this test.
    -=[doug]=-

I've done what appears to be the standard littany of things:
    1) Confirmed that I am running the latest version of iWeb (2.02) on 10.5.1 (although the problem persists when using my backup of 10.4.10 that includes the ilife update)
    2) Changed my .Mac password, even though it was less than 20 characters
    3) Published all of my previous website to the temp .mac (in chunks to avoid the space limitations)
    4) Successfully published my site to a folder
    5) Successfully uploaded that folder to my iDisk
    6) Attempted to republish and republish all multiple times
    7) Deleted iWeb's plist
    8) rebooted
    9) logged out and back into my .Mac account
    10) confirmed that there is no password protection on my site
    11) confirmed that there are no comments on my site
    12) deleted assets.[membername].plist from the Domain file
    13) Confirmed that my password in Keychain is correct
    14) Run Keychain First Aid
    15) deleted Sites.RSS from my iDisk
    16) deleted the website and index.html from the iDisk
So, I have done a fair amount of ground work here, and am not just spouting off against Apple/.Mac. However, I still claim that the fact that I can successfully publish to a temporary .Mac account while the exact same iWeb content fails when being published to my normal .Mac account implies that there is something wrong with my .Mac account -- it is almost as if Apple is trying to eliminate its paying customers (since there are no problems with the free account).

  • Possible to retrieve an '09 blog published on iWeb/MobileMe?

Argh. I published my family's travel blog a few years back using MobileMe (web.me.com/shwang), and stupidly forgot about it during the MobileMe/iCloud transition.  Is there any way to retrieve the blog's contents, with or without comments?

iWeb saves the assets of your website, webpages, blog posts and photoalbums in the domain.sites file on your computer.
    It's here :
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
where ~ is your Home directory.
Only the comments were saved on the MMe server.
So you need the domain file to continue publishing on a new server. Comments are not supported on 3rd party webservers, so you could not see them anyway.
If you have no domain file and no backup, you'll have to start from scratch.

  • Move iWeb MobileMe Blog to Wordpress

I had to migrate my private Blog about my 2 years old little daughter from Apples mobileme servers to a wordpress account.
I wanted to keep all the comments too (Marlas birth..). So i wrote a perl script to do the job. It is far from beeing perfect, but it works for me. So it may work for you too. You have to adjust some things, that‘s for sure.
    Features:
    -Keep Comments
    -Keep Images (hmm mostly)
-Sets email-adresses for comments by Name
-Sets Tags by text strings occured in title or body
-Free, but my daughter will get every euro you donate! THX!
Note: The script works only while the apple servers are up. After 30. June all your comments are gone!

@MirkoW, would you like to wrap your pl script in an applescript app?
i can help you with that, so people like moopie can just double click and run your app without launching terminal.app.
sorry, i'm just can code some little perl. Applescript is completly new to me. I don't think it's worth the time since the mobileme servers are shut down in june.
    moopie wrote:
Cyclosaurus, what an excellent idea! MirkoW, I gave it a try and got it to generate a file, but wasn't successful yet. I originally published my blog to a folder on my computer. The way my blog is set up, I have three separate sections, each with its own archive and RSS feed. Don't ask me why - it was the only way I could think to separate several different years of posts on my blog.
Hmm, we have to see if we can get the images right. The main problem is that iweb uses the same shapeimageXYZ.png shema for every post and wordpress need to have unique filenames. So my script is guessing the filenames wordpress makes out of them by importing. sorry my english is not as good it should for explaining in detail. Example
iWeb hat 2 posts both with
    shapeimage_1.png
So the first post get's the filename shapeimage_1.png but the second post get's the filename shapeimage_11.png.
But what if you have later an image which has already the name shapeimage_11.png?
    You got the problem?
For me it works with some tricks. so don't be afraid, i can look into it if you want.
    moopie wrote:
Does the perl script need to be in the same folder as the posts I want to export?
No, the script does not use any local file, it get's all information directly from the mobileme servers.
Thanks for your patience - I do appreciate your help on this and I see the potential for your script. It's the closest thing to a solution I've seen so far. Worst case scenario, I'll get an engineer at work to help me figure out what to do!
can you give me the link to your blog? so i can look into the html code. I think that would be the fastest way to help you.

  • IWeb hanging at logging into MobileMe (Personal Domain Problem)

I've searched and searched for an answer to my problem all over the internet and these forums and keep coming up blank.
Apologies if the answer is somewhere and I've missed it.
It could be a wider problem with my MobileMe, but iWeb is where it first occurred.
I recently had my personal website forwarding to my MobileMe site, and was using the MobileMe webspace to host my site. I had set my personal domain (in MobileMe) to the personal website. Why I did this I'm not sure, as I wasn't actually using the external webspace, merely forwarding it to my MobileMe site.
However I then decided I wanted to create a new site and this is where the problems began to occur. When I tried to publish the new site, it seemingly tried to publish to personaldomain/new_website name/ which obviously didn't exist as there was no external webspace there.
I then decided to reset everything, get rid of the personal domain setting within MobileMe and just merely forward my external web addresses to my Me sites. Upon deleting my Personal Domain from the mobileme settings page and logging into iWeb, the website name next to my username was still my external website address, and iWeb seemed to think it was all still published (which it was, as when I went to my web.me.com/etc, my website was there) However I wanted to start from scratch and republish everything, so I deleted all the web/sites section from my idisk, and hoped I could republish everything (this could have been a mistake!)
Now when I try to publish, iWeb just hangs at logging into MobileMe and won't publish anything. iPhoto also won't upload new photo albums and neither will aperture. They just hang at syncing galleries.
I'm completely at a loss as to how to proceed. I've deleted preferences from iweb and also logged out of mobileme, put a fake name in and logged back in again (to clear the cache I think) and still iweb hangs. I've even tried creating a new user account and logging in there and still it hangs.
Apologies for the essay of a post, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Just some suggestions as to where to go would be helpful. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Keychains? I had a brief look in there but it all went over my head. This is the first problem I've ever had with my new mac, and being from a PC background, don't really know where to look to fix things.
Thanks in advance to people who even get through reading the entire post!

If stephen's suggestion doesn't help you might consider the following:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although for a different MMe issue it will clear out the MMe login info so you can enter everything anew and give it a fresh start.

  • MobileMe Gallery and problems with new password

Hi. I'm using iPhoto 09, and have posted many MobileMe galleries over the years. Recently, I changed my MobileMe password. Now, iPhoto tells me that an "error occurred with the publication of album 'XYZ' Your MobileMe account information is not correct. The provided login or password is not valid" and it prompts me to return to MobileMe Preferences to re-enter my correct login and password. Well, the trouble is that I've done this many times. (Which also causes sync problems - but that's another story.) And though my System Preferences are now correct, I still cannot successfully update a MobileMe gallery in iPhoto. I checked my settings in the Keychain, and all is fine. I also trashed iPhoto preferences, but the problem still remains. Any thoughts on how to solve this irritating problem? Thanks!

I found another solution based on this posting.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=689762
    Works perfectly.
+I have the same problem and started a thread about it on Apple's discussion board, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread....art=0&tstart=0+
+First, I'd suggest sending Apple feedback on it (select "Provide iPhoto Feedback" from the iPhoto menu).+
+When you change your MM password, you need to enter the new password in MobileMe in System Preferences. When you select MobileMe in System Preferences, it will (correctly) say that your password has changed and ask for the new one.+
+It looks like the problem with iPhoto is that when you enter the new password in MobileMe preferences, the keychain entry for it isn't being updated. Look for publish.me.com in Keychain Access. It will probably have the old password. Changing it there and then signing out/in in MM System Preferences seems to fix the problem with iPhoto. If not, try deleting publish.me.com in Keychain Access and then sign out/in to MobileMe in System Preferences.+
+Give it a try and post what happens.+

  • IWeb team: What's up with the repeated Blog publish errors?

I maintain a simple, albeit many-entry -- all with photos, Blog on my daughter's .Mac iWeb site. Since the last iWeb update, I've started to encounter repeated difficulties when attempting to publish new Blog entries. All other updates on the site (Photo Albums, About Me, etc.) successfully publish, whereas new Blog entries pose the same problem, as follows:
"Publish error - Can't create the file "shapeimage_(blah, blah, blah).png. The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
Many of you are VERY familiar with that ubiquitous message. However, my many attempts at troubleshooting and workarounds (e.g. publish to a folder, close open applications, delete files from iDisk, republish all, trash and rebuild pages, Domain reloads, etc. -- thank you, James Tseng, Varkgirl, et al.) fail to isolate the CAUSE of the problem. Specifically, what is the iWeb app doing while it assembles the Blog page(s) that results in the iWeb-centric "can't create..." error message?
Please note that I am doing nothing different when adding a new Blog. The process is the exact same one that I've employed for over a year, one that lets iPhoto/iWeb do most of the work (in terms of layout).
As most of you know, it's a time-consuming process waiting for updates to publish to the site, let alone wondering IF the updates will successfully publish.
Unless I am mistaken and more often than not, the "shape_image" error message is pointing to a file generated by iWeb as it readies the behind-the-scenes HTML for upload, yes?
I'd appreciate some specific troubleshooting and answers, please.

  • Why can't iPhone play movies in MobileMe galleries published from iPhoto?

I have movies published to my MobileMe galleries from iPhoto or QuickTime. They are in .m4v format, but the iPhone doesn't play them. Does anyone know why?
