MobileMe Closure Freezes Aperture 3.3.1

As of today Aperture 3.3.1 has become unusable due to the closure of MobileMe - even though I don't have, never had, any MobileMe albums. When I open Aperture I get a message that Aperture is going to move my MobileMe albums to Aperture, the only option is to click OK, it shows a progress bar, but the progress bar doesn't move and Aperture effectively freezes, not allowing me to do anything, not even quit. I then have to Force Quit Aperture.
How do I stop Aperture from looking for phantom MobileMe albums?

Problem solved ...
1) Disconnect from internet (WiFi, Ethernet, etc.)
2) Open Aperture.
3) Open Aperture Preferences.
4) Click on Web, delete MobileMe.
5) Turn on internet.
Crazy that Apple doesn't tell folks this.

  • Add old/existing mobileme galleries to Aperture?

I have created mobileme galleries with iPhone and iPhoto on another computer, and would now like to be able to manage them on Aperture 3. Is this possible?
I have imported the old iPhoto library, but none of the mobileme galleries imported.
I have already created a new mobileme gallery from Aperture, so I'm signed in ok.

    You might try this.
View your mobileme gallery via your web browser.
    Single click on your gallery.
Then click on the "Adjust settings" button (Looks like two sliders)
Look towards the bottom of the pane and you'll find "Syncs with"
You might be able to change that from iPhoto to Aperture

  • Relinking MobileMe Galleries to Aperture

I recently rebuilt my Aperture DB and noticed that once back all my MobileMe galleries weren't showing up on the left sidebar. I went into the MobileMe preferences in Aperture and they are all listed there. Does anyone have a solution for re-referencing (or reconnecting) MobileMe galleries to the sidebar? Without this they are sort of useless for me, just sitting out there on the web.
BTW, I did try creating a new gallery to see if that would somehow magically force them all to be referenced. It instead will only show that new gallery.
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same question. I initially used iPhoto to create and manage my stuff, along with mobileme galleries. I want to switch to Aperture, but I do not know how to gain control of existing mobileme galleries through Aperture. I don't really want to recreate them all.
Can someone answer this for us?

  • Trying to delete a MobileMe album causes Aperture 3 to crash every time.

I published an album to my MobileMe Gallery from Aperture 3 (as a test), and now I want to delete it from MobileMe. However, every single time I tried to do this in Aperture 3, the app crashed (and I sent those reports to Apple). As a last resort, I logged into MobileMe directly and was able to delete the album there, but it still shows up under "MobileMe Galleries" in Aperture. How do I fix this problem? I am up to date on software, I think (3.0.2). Thanks for any help you can provide.

    TThanks for that Linc.
tried that but mail still crashed. So modified it a bit. I archived my important emails and then erased the mailbox itself so that all messages were deleted. This was successful.

  • MobileMe errors with Aperture

Gist of it is this, I made a gallery in Aperture, I wanted to add more photos. I then get the error message "http://publish.me.com is not a valid location for this request"...I'm fuming right now..I pay Apple for this service, and the stupidest, easiest possible thing churns out an error!

I have been getting a bunch of different errors trying to publish to mobileme. I didn't sleep the entire night trying to get a few galleries up. The only solultion I have found is to keep trying over and over with medium quality web images. I need to provide the full-size files but after all this, I plan to go another route to host the full files.
It is very frustrating to lose all that sleep and still be unable to do what I am paying to do with my images. This actually started several days ago, but I didn't want to invest the time to resolve the problems until yesterday. The errors were with brand new galleries. It was only brute-force of repeating each publish that I was able to get around no errors.
I suspect Apple is working on some new "feature" or update for iPhone owners and this is causing problems - precisely why I chose to ride it out a few days but I've got to get my galleries up.
I have to say that I'm not seeing mobileme as a reliable option for publishing photos. I cut my site way back when the .Mac service became mobileme, intending to look elsewhere because of all the problems I had to deal with. But with the free days provided, I have tried to stick with it. But each time there is something new and annoying to deal with and I rarely use or give out my mobileme address these days because of the constant errors and lack of decent support for Aperture. But I think I should try to squeeze some use out of the service I'm paying for before it expires. The economy is still hitting some of us hard and I know I can certainly think of other things to spend my money on.

  • MobileMe galleries and Aperture stacks

I'm using MobileMe galleries to share and display some photos. It seems you can't upload images from within Aperture projects when they're stacked, at least only the images on the top of the stacks. I often want to upload a whole project, without unstacking, so I just want to selec-all and create a new album. But all I'm uploading are the top images of each stack. Does anyone know what the solution might be?
    Many thanks,
    Richard

    Richard,
This is expected behavior when using Stacks. The purpose of a stack is to stack groups several images of which you only intend to use one, known as the pick.
One solution to allow you to keep your stacks but use all the images in MobileMe Gallery, is to create a Smart Album within the project and use this Smart Album for your MobileMe Gallery.
Smart Albums you create offer the option Ignore stack groupings by unchecking the "Include stack picks only" from the Smart Album criterion. If this option is deselected (the default for a Smart Album), then all images that meet the criteria for the Smart Album will be available in the Media pane, regardless of stack pick status.
See: Working with Stacks - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2940

  • Trying to open Places freezes Aperture

I am not able to open Places. Each time I click the icon I get the color wheel of death, after a while I have to Force Quit the program. There are about 6000 photos contained in Aperture, but almost 90% of that number is stored on a separate HDD and accessed by the program from there. Places has not opened any time I've tired it over a 3-day period, always freezing the program and always requiring Force Quit.
Is there a fix for this? Or is Places not functioning if one has a large number of places?

I was able to get 'places' working on my Mac Pro by opening a library I created on my Macbook Pro (no crashing experienced in that install from the start) that contained a single geotagged image. The function works fine even after deleting the image, it just seemed to need the location data to get it kicking. I was creating a new library (since started as a trial) and was not upgrading an version 2 library.
There is obviously a bug here that needs addressing though.

  • Mobileme calendar freezing and painfully slow

Both my ipad and iphone4 calendars are painfully slow and freeze up. Switching from month to month now takes about 10-15 seconds while it used to be instantaneous. Anyone know if there is a fix for this.

I have this problem too. My symptoms are that when I open the calendar, the calendar starts, but appears empty. The "network in use" spinning indicator next to the wifi on symbol in the screen header is on. It takes at least 20 seconds and as much as 45 seconds before any calendar entries are displayed. If you try to change the view (e.g., from day to week) or change the date(s) displayed, it also takes a long time to display.
If I had a slow internet connection, I guess I could understand, but I have a 15Mbps down, 5Mbps up FIOS connection which is really fast. I don't think the problem is related to wifi, but I couldn't say for sure.
I don't have this problem on my iPhone 4 (also iOS 4.2.1). It's a tad slower than it used to be, but at least it displays calendar entries within a couple seconds.
When I enter a new appointment, the same thing happens--after I hit done, the entry doesn't appear for many seconds after the appointment entry form has been closed. It's like it has to send it to MobileMe and then download it before it will display it.
On top of all that, the calendar app sometimes crashes, which it never did before.
If this keeps up, I'll have to move to Google calendar, as the very long delays makes the calendar unusable in practice.

  • How do I stop MobileMe Sync with Aperture 3?

    Hi All,
I just published my first gallery to MobileMe from AP3. It was quick and easy and I like that it's easy to share to friends. However, is there any way to leave the gallery up while disconnecting or preventing Aperture from syncing with it? I don't plan to make any changes to this gallery now, after the initial upload and I'm wondering if one can just upload and be done with it (letting the gallery live on the web) - and not have Aperture try to continually connect to the gallery for updating. Or, is there a way to just update manually?
    Thanks.

    Hey narfee,
I found an article that can goes over how to unregister your computer from syncing.
MobileMe Sync: About registering and unregistering computers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1074
It depends on what type of computer you're using, but I pasted the relevant steps below:
    Unregister a computer from syncing
If you no longer want a computer to sync with MobileMe, you can unregister the computer from syncing. You can unregister any computer that is registered for syncing from any other computer with Mac OS X v10.4.11, v10.5.8,  v10.6.x, OS X Lion, Windows XP, or Windows Vista, as long as you know your member name and password.
Unregistering a computer from syncing does not delete any data.
To unregister a computer from syncing:
    Mac OS X v10.4.11
    Open System Preferences
    Click .Mac
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Mac OS X v10.5.8, v10.6.x, OS X Lion
    Open System Preferences
    Click MobileMe
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
Note: In Mac OS X v10.5.8, if you unregister all computers you may be prompted to delete unwanted sync data. If you are no longer syncing with MobileMe, you can delete the unused sync data from the MobileMe servers.
    Windows XP or Vista
    Open Control Panel
    Click MobileMe Preferences
    Click Sync
    Click Advanced
Select the Computer you wish to unregister
    Click Unregister
    Cheers,
    David

  • Trouble creating a MobileMe Gallery with Aperture

I'm having trouble creating a MobileMe Gallery from within Aperture. In the past it work flawlessly but now it isn't working at all. This is what happens: I create a gallery from within Aperture by clicking on either "New/MobileMe Album, or "New From Selection/MobileMe Album." The gallery is made and appears in Aperture. However, when I visit the MobileMe site the Gallery doesn't contain any images. When I sync it again the gallery disappears from within Aperture all together.
    Any ideas?

I resolved my problem by rebuilding the Aperture Library from the Aperture Vault. Apparently, and this makes sense, Aperture can't build a Gallery if the photo version, or photo itself is missing. I think the reason why it appeared visible is because the Preview file was embedded...

  • Keeps trying to link to mobileme and freezes iphoto

anyone have iphoto keep trying to "publish albums to mobileme"?

My iPhoto freezes when I open preferences. Is there another way around eliminating MobileMe? Maybe through deleting files in Library? System preferences won't let me log into MobileMe either so I can get into the sync section to deselect iPhoto. Any suggestions?

  • Announce MobileMe Gallery in Aperture

I have recently made the switch to Aperture.
I have created a new MobileMe gallery.  How do I announce this gallery in Aperture?  It was easy in iPhoto.
    TIA
    PK

    G,day,
When you select the Mobile Me gallery, in the Library Inspector, it loads the images in Viewer, Browser or Split view, (what ever you have selected)
Then at the bottom right of the screen is a little drop down arrow lablled  MobileMe
It offers you three options, the third is "Tell a friend".
Click and it will open a mail message, (I happen to use Mail, but I'm really old fashioned like that)
It will have a small photo icon from the gallery and a View Gallery button.
You add the name of the recipient(s), any info you want and send. Hi-presto, job done.
    Hope that helps
    DJ

  • Disappearing MobileMe galleries in Aperture library

I created several MobileMe galleries over the past few days, and was successful in publishing them (although this took a couple of tries). Last night I added a few more photos to one of the galleries and tried to resync. After a couple of minutes, it looked like the process was hanging. Before I could cancel it, however, my entire screen turned gray and displayed a message that said I would have to perform a hard restart. (It's the first time I've ever seen that screen in several years of using a Mac.)
After I restarted, Spotlight reindexed my hard drive. When I opened aperture, my library seemed intact except for the MobileMe galleries. They were completely gone. They're not gone from the MobileMe servers: I can still view those photos online, but they aren't in my Aperture library, and I'm unsure how to relink them. Does anyone know if this is possible, or should I just start over?

I haven't experienced anything like you describe, but there is definitely some bugginess with A3 and MM.
One user suggested checking for published photos in A3's MM preferences to get previous galleries back in the list. DON'T DO IT!
When I tried it, the images seemed to be downloading not syncing. When it was done, all my previous galleries were in the list but empty, and "visit gallery" grayed out.
If I go to Settings and click publish I get an error that won't go away no matter how many times I click OK. It just pops right back up, and I have to force quit to get out of it.
This isn't an answer but a confirmation of problems with A3 and MM.

  • MobileMe ad at Aperture launch

At launch, Aperture always begins with a promo for MobileMe - how do I stop this? I began w/trial & moved to paid version of Aperture.

You might be able to get rid of it by going to "Aperture→Preferences→Accounts" and deleting anything related to MobileMe.

  • Facebook Export freezes Aperture

Every time I try to export to Facebook Aperture freezes any ideas. PS No thumbnails appear in the export window.
I am now running on Snow Leopard

    Philip,
I'm right there with ya. I'm experiencing the same thing. I emailed Sean Farley and received the following response:
    +"I have stopped working on+
+0.5.2 and have rebuilt it from scratch. Although it is not quite ready+
+for release at the moment because I have been busy with my PhD.+
+The core difference between the two (besides the fact that I wrote the+
+Aperture one and not the iPhoto one) is the way that Aperture loads+
+its plugins. Basically, the fact that Aperture puts each plugin in its+
+own NSRunLoop is good but unfortunately, NSURL was not design for that+
+(ask Apple as to why, I have no idea). This makes it a little spotty+
+for maintaining a url connection. This is drastically improved in the+
+new version, though. In comparison, the export plugin for Flickr has+
+its own NSURL that Fraser wrote himself. This is definitely not going+
+to be in the Facebook exporter unless he opens up that code.+
+Sorry for the late reply and the sorta bad news :-/+
    Sean"
Not sure when the new version is coming out. Let me know if you find any other workarounds.
