MobileMe "email only account" on iCloud?

OK, I've converted my MobileMe account on my laptop and iPhone to iCloud. Am already enjoying the PhotoStream feature! My question: We have an iMac running Lion at home, and my wife uses it as her primary computer. Under MobileMe we've had an "email only account" we're paying extra for. We want to keep her separate email account on the iMac and eventually be able to sync it through iCloud with her iPad when she gets one for Christmas, BUT we want everything else on the iMac - photos, Contacts, Calendars, etc. - to sync with MY iCloud account. How do we accomplish this?
Until we can figure this out, we're leaving the iMac alone and not converting it to iCloud. Thanks in advance for any answers!

Thanks, that was a helpful response! I think we did pretty much the same thing you suggested.
The issue: MobileMe account including its own email account on one computer, with the user also paying $10 for a second email-only account on another computer. The MobileMe account is used for joint Contacts, Calendar, and Safari Bookmarks on two machines, while the main MobileMe mail account was used for mail on one machine and the email-only account was used for mail on the other machine.
We wanted to upgrade to iCloud on both machines and still have joint Contacts, Calendar and Safari bookmarks, plus share our iTunes account and use the new PhotoStream feature on both machines - but preserve the two individual email accounts.
Solution: On the first machine, move to iCloud with everything, using the main MobileMe account name and password. On the second machine, USE THE EMAIL-ONLY ACCOUNT to create a new iCloud account using the username and password for the email only account. That appears to be the critical step: you need to create that new iCloud account with the username and password for the email only account FIRST rather than migrating to iCloud on the second machine using the main MobileMe account name, or else you may permanently lose that second email-only account!
After that, it's all a matter of tweaking the account settings on the other apps to direct to the iCloud account on the first machine.
You will get a screen asking if you want to delete the existing Contacts on that second machine. Do so: DELETE THE EXISTING CONTACTS on that second machine. (Only after backing up your Address Book by using the export function just to be safe.)
Then, WITHIN EACH APPLICATION - Address Book, iTunes, Calendar, Safari - go to the Preferences and set them so that they are tied to the iCloud account for the first machine.
You may need to check your Preferences: for a little while my wife was getting both my mail and hers, until I noticed that within Mail.app she had two accounts: her iCloud account AND my iCloud account. I deleted my account on her machine.

  • Can MobileMe email-only accounts access iCloud?

So I have a MBP running Lion with a MobileMe account and my wife has an email-only address under that MobleMe account. We also sync Address Books, all accessed thru her old MB Core Duo running Snow Leopard, not upgradeable to Lion. If I switch to iCloud will she still be able to access Mail and sync Address Book? Can't find a definitive answer anywhere in the Apple iCloud support pages.... Help please!

I couldn't either. With help from others and a MacWorld article finally got it figured out: You DO want to have two iCloud accounts, but you want one iCloud account to be the source for the Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, iTunes, and PhotoStream on both machines. There is a solution.

  • Cannot email from iPhoto 9.2 with my MobileMe-email only account.

    Mac OS 10.6.8, iPhoto 9.2
I can send emails from my MobileMe regular account, but not from my MobileMe-email only account. I keep getting the alert:
"Your email was not sent. Please wait a few moments and then try sending your email agan."
    Anyone know why?

Yup, I have exactly the same problem like you have.
I thought it was a problem with Apple's iCloud server but one of my friend told me this morning that he didn't have any problem with iPhoto' s iCloud email sending.
Do I have to do all the clean install from the beginning or what?
This thing is really bugging me I didn't have any problem when I was using mobileme account connected with iphoto back then.
I'm not even sure if it's the problem with Lion or iPhoto or iCloud anymore...
Somebody help with this matter, pleaseeeee

  • Which mobileme account do I upgrade to iCloud first? Master or email only account.

Hi. I have two mobileme accounts that have not been upgraded to iCloud yet.
The first is the master account that I use and the second is an email only account that my father uses which is attached to my master account.
I would like to upgrade both to iCloud but I have received conflicting advice from a couple of Apple stores I have sought advice from. (A couple of Apple employees said do the master account first, the other two said to do the email only first!).
Does it matter in which order I upgrade these accounts to iCloud? ie. should or upgrade the Master account first or the email only account?
    Or doesn't it matter !!!
Thanks in advance for your help.

The OP is asking about upgrading MobileMe, rather than the setting up of iCloud. Though it shouldn't make any difference, I would advise carrying out the migration of the email-only account first, then the master account.
After that, whichever one it is that is wanted as the primary account needs to be entered in System Preferences>iCloud. And of course his father, who uses the email-only account, may have his own user account and can set up the ex-email-only account as a primary account there.

  • Email-only account greyed out

An email-only account appears greyed-out in the LHS column in the Mail window. Hovering the cursor over the mailbox name produces a two-line pop-up error message as follows.

The server error encountered was: "Mailbox does not exist".

I have just posted this question as well and we have the same situation, an email only account.
When I try to set up an iCloud account for my wife using her [email protected] address i'm always relogged on to iCloud with my details coming up.
Do I have to delete my Mobileme account before setting her account up, if so does she still retain her  @mac.com address.

  • Email only account deleted

Help. I just deleted one of my email only accounts. I don't care about recovering the meassages because it was all SPAM!
What I want to do is add that same account back on.
When I go to "set up account" and try to use that same mailbox name, it won't let me becaus eit says that account name is already in use. This is because they are holding that name in case this person wanted to "buy" an email only account.
How do I get around this - I shouldn't have to "buy" it, I get 4 for free I think and it is important that it is the same "email address".

Did you turn off messages on your iPhone AND your iPad and then start all over again, turning on messages on the iPhone first? That's usually how the phone number becomes accessible in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at ....

This forum is for discussing issues related to the Mail & Address Book applications included with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Yours appears to be a .Mac issue that has absolutely nothing to do with Mac OS X’s Mail. The right forum for such questions would be one of the .Mac Forums, such as .Mac General, for example.

    June 2011:
iWeb publishing, MobileMe Gallery, and iDisk will all disappear as the company sunsets its current online service in favor of iCloud.
Other MobileMe services—including syncing of Mac Dashboard widgets, keychains, Dock items, and System Preferences—will not be part of iCloud, Apple says. Those syncing services will stop working as soon you migrate from MobileMe to iCloud. In addition, Apple says that while MobileMe members can no longer upgrade to a Family Pack or buy additional MobileMe storage, Family Pack members will be able to transition their accounts to iCloud individually, as long as it’s done before June 30, 2012.

  • Anyone having trouble with their MobileMe email after switching to iCloud?

After making the switch to iCloud, I can't access my MobileMe email at all. When I enter my information on my phone to set up the account it verifies it, then when I go to the mail app it says the password is incorrect. When I got to my Mail map on my mac it says the server rejects my password. When I go to the mobile me and iCloud websites they tell me there is an error.

Same here - I had to turn my iphone4 Off several times and finally left if off for a few minutes - that seemed to do the trick. Once I restarted it prompted me to transfer my MobileMe account to iCloud and when I clicked OK it worked like a charm.

  • HT5527 Mac email address/account without iCloud?

Is it possible to keep my Mac email address without buying extra iCloud space? Only email seems to use more than the free space. If I turn email off in the iCloud  settings of my iPad (to reduce the space i use), my mac mail account is no longer visible under my accounts (my other not Mac email accounts are though). And how does this work with my Mac?

Try doing a Repair disk and a Repair Permissions in Disk Utility. Then see if Lion will install.
If not then save all your data and Wipe the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. Then try the Lion upgrade again.

  • Importing family MobileMe calendars and accounts into iCloud and living to tell the tale...

I have been staring at this for a long time and I hope this doesn't turn out to be as much of a brain twister as the early builds of MobileMe did. However, since I guess there must be plenty of us in the same boat, I figure this might be a good place to put together what we know and share our triumphs and disasters.
I have just installed 10.7.2 and the only mistake I have made to far was to hit the iCloud button and set iCloud up before I had read every single one of the FAQs, but then again, I haven't found any which address this problem. But I am sure that other people are already experiencing it.
We have a family MobileMe account, the main login being (we'll say) [email protected], which is the one I use; my wife uses [email protected] and our daughter uses [email protected]. The [email protected] is used purely for mail, contacts and calendars and nothing else worth mentioning.
    Now comes the tricky bit.
We have a separate AppleId, based on a non-Apple email, which we will call [email protected].
When I upgraded to 10.7.2 and set up iCloud for my iMac, I (unthinkingly) set up [email protected] as the iCloud account and then (after I had realised this maybe wasn't such a smart move) set up my iCloud Mail, Contacts and Calendars to sync to we'll say [email protected], although I didn't transfer my MobileMe Mail, Calendar and Contacts across. Because I have an existing MobileMe account, this data is still associated with MobileMe.
The 64 dollar question is this: can I set up the two other iMacs in this house to use the [email protected] AppleId, set their iCloud emails to perhaps [email protected] and [email protected], then transfer all the MobileMe accounts across to the [email protected] addresses and keep all the data separate? Or is it the case that you can only run one set of mail, contacts and calendars from a single AppleId?
    Or…
Are we going to have to create three separate AppleIds to run mail, contacts and calendars in iCloud and use [email protected] for the Apple Store.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated! My head hurts just from thinking about it all.
    Andrew

I cannot receive or send mail via iCloud in my Mac Mail app. I can do both by going into iCloud and accessing Mail and Calendars there.
Make sure Mail and Notes is selectded in System Preferences > iCloud
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Mail
    Same for Calendars.

  • Additional MobileMe Email in iCloud?

    Hi all,
I have a main MobileMe account for personal use and a secondary 'Email only' MobileMe account which is used to operate our family business.
I moved my personal (main) account to iCloud about a month ago and everything has been working fine so today I decided to move the Email Only account to iCloud too.
My problem now is that you can't have two iCloud accounts going on the same user account on my Mac so it will make it difficult receiving emails etc. constantly having to swap between two user accounts on my Mac.
I know iCloud allows you to create aliases which I am happy to do so I only operate from one iCloud account BUT how do I keep the same .me.com email address for the business? Each time I try to create the alias it says it's in use (yes, by me).
Should I delete/cancel the Email Only account and then claim the alias? How do I do this?
I apologise if this has been addressed - I searched for sometime but couldn't find anything directly relating to it.

You can't make an alias out of an existing account. If you haven't migrated the email-only account, just do so: then add it in System Preferences>iCloud. This obviously won't allow you to carry out any syncing with it, but it may add it to the list of accounts in Mail. If it doesn't, you can enter the server settings manually - details here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
This will allow you to check your mail automatically and select which account you use to send with when composing a message.

  • Email-only MobileMe - movement to iCloud?

    Hi,
I have a mobileMe account with an additional mobileMe email-only add-on that my wife uses as her email address.  I can't work out how this translates into iCloud.
I only want one iCloud account, so both myself and my wife have the same calendars, bookmarks, etc.  However, we both want separate email addresses as we do now.
Is this what will happen when we convert to iCloud?
    Duncan

Finally got it figured out: You DO want to have two iCloud accounts, but you want one iCloud account to be the source for the Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, iTunes, and PhotoStream on both machines. There is a solution.
The issue: MobileMe account including its own email account, with the user also paying $10 for a second email-only account.

  • Email account without ICloud?

I have (or had, I guess)   2   @mac.com Email accounts, but now have only one ICloud account.  Can I continnue to use the email account that is not connected with ICloud?  (I use one for personal and one for business mail)

If you had two MobileMe accounts, or a Family pack sub-account, or an 'email only' account, you need to migrate them separately at http://me.com/move whereupon they will become separate full iCloud accounts.
You can add the second account in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars
