Mobileme find my iphone/itouch

Hey everyone, I am new to this forums, but anyways, here is my question: I lost/had my itouch 4 stolen ,on Feb.9 '11. I MAY have lost it a school(can't find it at home), I've already asked ALL my teachers ,and checked lost and found there - a few times ,and it STILL hasn't turned up - yet. Plus, I've contacted the apple store to see if they could help me. But, they say they can't ; they don't have have a way to track it- without find my iphone/itouch - OF COURSE not - they gave me suggestions instead ;I asked about if my free limited warranty qualify me to get a new one (I may have dropped it ,and it may have had minor physical defects on it; but don't remember); OF COURSE, they say I don't qualify (they said it doesn't have any physical defects on it; I tried to tell them I don't know). Any way, I was wondering if I set up my mobileme find my iphone/itouch on my computer /or someone else's idevice could I track /locate my itouch 4 via someone else's idevice (or even my computer by itself)- (I now have it installed on my itunes account, but not before I lost/had my itouch 4 stolen (of course I didn't KNOW this was going to happen!!!!), can ANYONE HELP ME?!

You have to set up Find My iPhone on MobileMe BEFORE it is lost, at this point there is no way to do so unless you could get access to your Touch and turn Find My iPhone on.
Doesn't matter what shape your Touch was in, a warranty is NOT insurance and does not cover loss or theft. If you bought a new car and failed to get insurance do you really think Ford will give you a new car under your warranty?
Hope you reported it to the police, and good luck with getting it back. If it was purchase with a parent's credit card it is possible it was covered under an CC insurance plan, also have them check their homeowner's insurance.

As of last week, you can log in to me.com via Safari and find a link to use Find My iPhone from a friend's iPhone/iPod touch if you need to locate your lost iPhone/iPod on a map, display a message, play a sound, or remotely lock or wipe it.

  • "Apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe" when setting up Find My iPhone app

Okay, folks, spent some time with MobileMe support via chat this morning. This is what I've learned. Apparently you CANNOT use an Apple ID, regardless of what format it's in (usually a full email address) AS LONG AS IT'S ASSOCIATED WITH A MOBILE ME (ME.COM ADDRESS) ACCOUNT THAT IS CLOSED OR NO LONGER ACTIVE. Unfortunately, there is no way to disassociate the two and there is no way the old MobileMe (me.com address) account can be deleted.
Apparently, I had some issue when I was trying out the MobileMe for the trial period many months ago and for some reason couldn't use my primary Apple ID (my primary email address), so I created a me.com address for the MobileMe account. Eventually, I cancelled the MobileMe account because the cost wasn't justified for the features it offered. Unfortunately, that association with my primary Apple ID is permanent and THAT is the source of the "This Apple ID canot be used for MobileMe" error. Or at least that's ONE reason for it.
The solution? Create a completely new, separate Apple ID using a valid email address from which you can receive a verification email. The address is NOT used to receive any further emails from Apple. Only to create logon credentials. Do NOT associate this email address with your current/primary Apple ID or any other Apple ID. This is what you use to set up Find My iPhone/iPad, etc. using the MobileMe setup in Settings>Mail/Contacts/Calendars as well as the Find My iPhone App (plus it's your logon to the MobileMe Find My iPhone web page).
When you log in to the MobileMe page, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR APPLE ID IF IT'S A FULL EMAIL ADDRESS: apparently, the ID field automatically tries to change it to "[email protected]" instead of your "[email protected]". Just check it before and after you enter your Apple ID password and submit.
I did this and it works. Find My iPhone app and service works beautifully. Spotted my iPad right where I'm at on a map. I sent a message to my iPad via the service (which also offers the option to play a sound, lock the device or even wipe the device).
I hope this information helps SOMEONE.
Oh...interesting footnote: I was informed that APPLE IDs CANNOT BE DELETED. Even if you create a "test" Apple ID (like I did during our troubleshooting session) with some barely used email account using a weak password. That means, regardless of whether you use it or not for MobileMe/Find My iPhone, you really, really need to give it a SECURE password (if you're going to keep that email account alive). So yeah, there are a lot of dormant Apple IDs floating around out there!

    I agree.
I found this 'bug' out the other day when getting ready for my new iPhone I was setting up my iPad with some new apps too and wanted to work with Find My iPhone.
Here's the deal; my main AppleID is just a simple 'Username' not a '[email protected]' AppleID.
I've had this since the need for AppleIDs were used for these forums and the iTunes Store, AppStore, etc.
So it works fine and well with that stuff but not with find my iphone on my iPad as it wants a full email account, either a '@me.com' or a '[email protected]' AppleID which I did create but I think it was used as Job profile or something other along those lines (NOT used for a MobileMe account or .mac either).
And I only have access to one email now and I dont feel comfortable having multiple email addresses that I dont check or have no use for, call my simple or naive but thats just how it goes.
What I'd like to do is be able to use either AppleID for my Find My iPhone app and everything else.
And I think thats a good point, '@me.com's for all. make it a whole lot easier in my opinion.
merge all the apple accounts you created into a MobileMe, simplifies the situation and makes it easier connect to all Apple Services.
My itunes account, apple.com store account, appstore account, main AppleID for the past couple years it "Maxwell Stanley" but it does NOT work with Find My iPhone. So i created [email protected] (example.com is in place of my true email domain for privacy reasons) and that doesnt work as it statse it Cannot Be used.
My 'Maxwell Stanley" Apple ID's email associated with it was [email protected] i tried changing it to [email protected] but still doesnt recognize that as an AppleID even though its associated with "Maxwell Stanley".
I event ried to use the SAME email that is associated with my 2nd AppleID '[email protected]' with the appleid 'Maxwell Stanley' and no dice.
running out of options it seems.
Any idea on the best solution?
    Thank you!

  • How do I remove my old iPhone from "Find My iPhone"?

How do I remove my old iPhone from the device list?

From the Help files in the app . . .
    Remove Device
If you’re no longer using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that was set up to use Find My iPhone, you can remove it from Find My iPhone when the device is offline (turned off or not connected to a data network, such as EDGE, 3G, or Wi-Fi). To remove the device, you need to sign in to me.com on a computer.
To remove your device from Find My iPhone:
On a computer, sign in to MobileMe Find My iPhone at me.com/find using your Apple ID email address and password.
If you’re a paid subscriber, your Apple ID is your MobileMe email address (@me.com or @mac.com) and password.
If you set up Find My iPhone on more than one device, click the device you want to remove in the Devices list on the left.
Click the blue arrow to the right of your device’s name (or, if the device hasn’t been located recently, the red clock ).
In the device window, click Remove (to the right of the device name).
The Remove link appears after Find My iPhone has tried and failed to connect to your device. This may take a few minutes.
When asked to confirm if you want to remove the device, click Remove.
If your device goes online again later and is still set up with your MobileMe account information, the device automatically reappears in Find My iPhone. If you still have access to the device, you can prevent it from reappearing in Find My iPhone by removing your MobileMe account information from the device. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [YourMobileMeAccount], and then tap Delete Account.

I have an iPhone 4 and a 3G.   With MobileMe, Find My iPhone works perfectly for both phones.    I'm planning to migrate to iCloud.  Will Find my iPhone still work with my 3G phone?

  • Enable "Find my iPhone" in Configuration Utility

Is there a way to enable the MobileMe Find My iPhone as an account that cannot be removed or switched off in the iPhone Configuration Utility?
I see that in Settings-->Mail-->Add Account-->Mobile Me is an option, which subsequently allows me to turn on Find My iPhone on the device itself, but in the Configuration Utility that is not an option.
    Thanks for your time.

To be located the device must be powered on and have an internet connection.

  • Find My iPhone won't work from safari

    Hello,
I'm trying to use "Find My iPhone" from safari 5.0 an MacOS X 10.6.3, but It doesn't work.
The iPhone localization works fine, but if I try to use the "Display a Message" button, when I push the send button I get an alert window saying: "Your Find My iPhone session has expired. For security reasons, you have been automatically logged out of Find My iPhone. Your last action was not completed. Log in and try again. MobileMe requires you to log in to Find My iPhone every 15 minutes." and then I'm asked endlessly to login.
I have emptied the cache and reset safari, but with no success for Find My iPhone.
All works fine, instead, if I use Firefox.
Moreover, If I switch user (to root) then "Find my Iphone" works fine from safari. But the installed plugins are the same for the two users. There are no plugins in "~/Library/Internet Plugins".
    What's the matter?

  • I'm trying to find my iPhone unsing the internet. I have the app on my phone but it's telling me I don't have a mobileme ID?

I went to the mobileme website and it asked me for my apple ID and password. But then when I entered them it told me I needed a mobileme ID. Should I have one just from setting up the app on my iphone?

MobileMe has been closed down - iCloud replaced it.  You should have gone through the migration process from MM to iCloud in the past months, it's too late now.
You need to create a new iCloud account (browse to icloud.com with a computer).  Then use Settings>iCloud and turn on Find My iPhone for any device you have.  That will allow you to track the device if it is lost/stolen.  If you have not done that on the lost iphone (and if you have no icloud account), then you can't track it.  The Find My iPhone app does not turn on the service, it's only used to find other devices.

my  friend ipad 2 was stolen if they reset the device in factory setting, just wanna ask if we can still locate the device using find my iphone...mobileme?pls help me,...

It's unfortunate that your device has been stolen.  You can report this to the police, but as has been answered before, if the device is restored you CANNOT locate it.
It probably is technically possible to track your device by the SIM; law enforcement will not waste their time doing so.  Besides, the thieves have probably changed it anyway.
While unfortunate your iPad is gone, you really need to move on.

  • Find My iPhone not working - MobileMe message: No Location Available

Hi Guys, I'm upgraded to iOS 4.3.1 and the Find My iPhone feature is not working. My MobileMe account picks up the iPhone but says: No Location Available. Even though I can pick up my location on Google Maps/Facebook/Camera/Google without any problems on my iPhone. I installed the Find My iPhone app on my iphone and the same thing happens, picks up the phone but give a message: No Location Available. I tried on 3G/Wifi still
Time Zone = Johannesburg, South Africa
    MobileMe Push is enabled
Is anyone else experiencing problems with Find My iPhone?

i had all the same problems as everyone. then I tried powering down the ipad (even when I bought it, it was in sleep mode so it had never been off). to power down, To turn off the iPad, locate the hold button on top of the iPad, at its right side. This is a physical button, not an onscreen one. Press the hold button for a few seconds, until a slider appears at the top of the screen that says "slide to power off."
To turn the iPad off, move the slider from left to right. If you don't want to shut it down, tap the "cancel" button at the bottom of the screen.
After I turned it back on (by pressing and holding the same button), it worked!

  • MobileME's Find My iPhone/iPod: working for you?

    Hi guys,
have any of you gotten the "Find My iPhone" feature to work?
I've followed pretty much all Apple suggests and also deleting/reconfiguring my MobileME account on my Touch to no avail. On the FMP page it shows my iPod online as well as ID'ing it correctly but it simply cannot get a location.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I see no mention of ipods on the Find my iphone page in Mobileme.

If you didn't enable it on your iPod before it was lost you can't.  If you did, you may be able to locate it by going to icloud.com from your computer browser, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f2442.
