MobileMe galleries and Aperture stacks

I'm using MobileMe galleries to share and display some photos. It seems you can't upload images from within Aperture projects when they're stacked, at least only the images on the top of the stacks. I often want to upload a whole project, without unstacking, so I just want to selec-all and create a new album. But all I'm uploading are the top images of each stack. Does anyone know what the solution might be?
Many thanks,
Richard

Richard,
This is expected behavior when using Stacks. The purpose of a stack is to stack groups several images of which you only intend to use one, known as the pick.
One solution to allow you to keep your stacks but use all the images in MobileMe Gallery, is to create a Smart Album within the project and use this Smart Album for your MobileMe Gallery.
Smart Albums you create offer the option Ignore stack groupings by unchecking the "Include stack picks only" from the Smart Album criterion. If this option is deselected (the default for a Smart Album), then all images that meet the criteria for the Smart Album will be available in the Media pane, regardless of stack pick status.

Hope this helps

  • Relinking MobileMe Galleries to Aperture

I recently rebuilt my Aperture DB and noticed that once back all my MobileMe galleries weren't showing up on the left sidebar. I went into the MobileMe preferences in Aperture and they are all listed there. Does anyone have a solution for re-referencing (or reconnecting) MobileMe galleries to the sidebar? Without this they are sort of useless for me, just sitting out there on the web.
BTW, I did try creating a new gallery to see if that would somehow magically force them all to be referenced. It instead will only show that new gallery.
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same question. I initially used iPhoto to create and manage my stuff, along with mobileme galleries. I want to switch to Aperture, but I do not know how to gain control of existing mobileme galleries through Aperture. I don't really want to recreate them all.
Can someone answer this for us?

  • Add old/existing mobileme galleries to Aperture?

I have created mobileme galleries with iPhone and iPhoto on another computer, and would now like to be able to manage them on Aperture 3. Is this possible?
I have imported the old iPhoto library, but none of the mobileme galleries imported.
I have already created a new mobileme gallery from Aperture, so I'm signed in ok.

    You might try this.
View your mobileme gallery via your web browser.
    Single click on your gallery.
Then click on the "Adjust settings" button (Looks like two sliders)
Look towards the bottom of the pane and you'll find "Syncs with"
You might be able to change that from iPhoto to Aperture

  • Disappearing MobileMe galleries in Aperture library

I created several MobileMe galleries over the past few days, and was successful in publishing them (although this took a couple of tries). Last night I added a few more photos to one of the galleries and tried to resync. After a couple of minutes, it looked like the process was hanging. Before I could cancel it, however, my entire screen turned gray and displayed a message that said I would have to perform a hard restart. (It's the first time I've ever seen that screen in several years of using a Mac.)
After I restarted, Spotlight reindexed my hard drive. When I opened aperture, my library seemed intact except for the MobileMe galleries. They were completely gone. They're not gone from the MobileMe servers: I can still view those photos online, but they aren't in my Aperture library, and I'm unsure how to relink them. Does anyone know if this is possible, or should I just start over?

I haven't experienced anything like you describe, but there is definitely some bugginess with A3 and MM.
One user suggested checking for published photos in A3's MM preferences to get previous galleries back in the list. DON'T DO IT!
When I tried it, the images seemed to be downloading not syncing. When it was done, all my previous galleries were in the list but empty, and "visit gallery" grayed out.
If I go to Settings and click publish I get an error that won't go away no matter how many times I click OK. It just pops right back up, and I have to force quit to get out of it.

This isn't an answer but a confirmation of problems with A3 and MM.

  • MobileMe galleries through Aperture 2.11

Problem: I create a MM gallery through Aperture 2.11 and upload 5 photos(plain .jpg). These show fine. I add 2 more(plain .jpg), these are also fine and now show 7. I edit a photo upload it(.jpg) with another unedited(plain .jpg) image and then the MM stops updating. Aperture shows that it does, it shows progress 5% 10% then finished, way too fast and nothing is changed. All images show in Aperture in the MM gallery link. Until I remove the "edited" copy from the MM link nothing new will get to the gallery even though it shows in Aperture and being synced. MM "support" says I have a "pro" app and to contact them. I am getting the run-around. Can anyone help?

With any photo you have included in a Web Gallery, if you re-edit that in the original project, that edit is automatically reflected in the gallery, and you only need to click on the upload symbol beside the name of the gallery to have it uploaded as changed.
The images that are selected for or added to a gallery are taken from the Master of the image, plus edits -- they will be JPEGS regardless of the Master format, so long as you have not selected to upload Masters. The JPEGS will either be Optimized JPEGs or Original Size JPEGs as you select for uploading the gallery.
Please explain how you have "added" a newly edited image to the gallery where that image was already included in previous efforts? Did you remove the image from the gallery album, and again drag it into the gallery? Also report whether stacked images are involved?

  • Aperture 3 and MobileMe Galleries created in iPhoto

I wanted to post this to hopefully help someone else should they run into the same thing.
I recently upgraded from point and shoot camera's to a higher quality camera, so I also decided that it was time to upgrade from iPhoto to something better.  I decided on Aperture as I am not quite ready to commit to the expense and time to learn something as complex as Photoshop.
Well, the first time I opened Aperture and told it to import my iPhoto library, it worked without any difficulty.  But, I noticed something was missing.  My MobileMe galleries where not displayed in the inspector window for Aperture.  I could not for the life of me, figure out how to get them to show up in there either.
I went to the Apple store and talked to some Aperture users there and no one could seem to tell me how to fix this.  It was even more frustrating because all of my photo albums from FaceBook came up in Aperture just fine.
Finally in a last ditch, hail mary pass, of an idea, I went to the web UI for my MobileMe galleries.  I figured that maybe if I edited something about those galleries, they would then show up in Aperture.
Well, I went into the properties for one of the galleries that I was not seeing in Aperture, and low and behold, there in the properties was an option to choose what application that gallery would sync to.  The only options are iPhoto or Aperture, so I changed each gallery to show Aperture as the chosen app to sync with.
Finally they now show in Aperture, of course, as you might expect, they no longer show in iPhoto.
I have no idea why the Import process does not warn you about this, and / or offer to change them for you, but it was very frustrating.
If this can help someone else new to Aperture to avoid this frustration, then I am glad.

Thanks Richard, very helpful. I wondered why I couldn't see my old mobileme galleries in Aperture.
I have swapped between iPhoto '09, Aperture 3, iPhoto '11 and now back to Aperture. Whilst I love the ease of use and relative speed of iPhoto, Aperture's adjustments and masters/versions handling has the edge for me now that my masters collection is too big for my MBP. And with a clean install of Lion my machine now seems more responsive than it has been for a while.
Changing the setting of each gallery is a bit dull, is there a global 'manage mobile me galleries with iPhoto/Aperture' setting anywhere?

  • How do I cut Aperture's ties to my nonexistent MobileMe galleries?

I downloaded the contents of my MobileMe galleries and deleted them last year. But Aperture 3.4.5 still shows links to these galleries in my Library (with an iCloud icons!). I tried repeatedly to delete the links, but all I get is warning icons where the broadcasting icons used to be. And when I reopen Aperture the original link reappears. How do I get rid of these references to non-existent MobileMe galleries?

Here are screenshots of the problem MobileMe galleries in my Aperture Library, the delete message, and the resulting warning icons after my unsuccessful deletion attempts.  I've tried deleting both with the "import photos to your library before deleting" box checked and unchecked. Either way, I get the same warning icons and the gallery links reappear when I reopen Aperture.

  • MobileMe Galleries created in Aperture are syncing with iPhoto

I used to use iPhoto, but switched to Aperture 3.  Now when I create a MobileMe Gallery, the photos publish to the site but don't show up in the Aperture library under MobileMe.  When I log in to the Mobileme site, I check the settings for the gallery and it says it is syncing with iPhoto.  I can change it to Aperture manually, and then it will show up properly when I go back to Aperture, but I can't figure out why it's defaulting to iPhoto.  I went  into the iPhoto preferences and removed all accounts, and there also are not any photos in iPhoto at all. Any help is appreciated.

  • MobileMe Galleries orphaned when importing Iphoto library into Aperture 3

Can anyone advise how I can get my existing MobileMe galleries to be listed into A3. They were uploaded via Iphoto and I imported that library into A3 but the MM galleries are not there. Obviously I have filled in the appropriate boxes etc in preferences.

    1) Log in to MobileMe via the web at www.me.com.
    2) Click on the PHOTOS icon along the top toolbar.
    3) Click the "Gear" button and select the option for "New Album".
    4) Give the album title a dummy name like "Aperture Link Dummy" and under the "Syncs with:" selection, choose "Aperture".
    5) Once this new album is created, you can now click on each individual MobileMe gallery that you wish to sync with Aperture and the "Lightswitch" button for "Album Settings" will now have the option to "Sync with: Aperture" as well.
    6) After making the necessary Album Settings changes for those that you wish to sync with MobileMe, return to your Aperture program and go to PREFERENCES --> WEB.
    7) Under the option "Check for new published photos:", select one of the options OTHER than "Automatically" and the "Check Now" button next to it should become clickable.
    8) Click "Check Now" and you should immediately see Aperture add a "MOBILEME GALLERY" heading under the Library pane and will begin to import your MobileMe galleries.
This is about as far I've gotten with getting my existing MobileMe galleries into Aperture. Unfortunately, now the problem is that they are no longer linked to their respective albums/events. When in iPhoto, if I made edits to the album/events, the MobileMe gallery would automatically be updated with those changes. I assume this behavior is the same for new galleries created from within Aperture, but it does not seem to affect those galleries that were imported from iPhoto. Let me know if you get anywhere with this issue.

  • Trying to delete a MobileMe album causes Aperture 3 to crash every time.

I published an album to my MobileMe Gallery from Aperture 3 (as a test), and now I want to delete it from MobileMe. However, every single time I tried to do this in Aperture 3, the app crashed (and I sent those reports to Apple). As a last resort, I logged into MobileMe directly and was able to delete the album there, but it still shows up under "MobileMe Galleries" in Aperture. How do I fix this problem? I am up to date on software, I think (3.0.2). Thanks for any help you can provide.

    TThanks for that Linc.
tried that but mail still crashed. So modified it a bit. I archived my important emails and then erased the mailbox itself so that all messages were deleted. This was successful.

  • When mobileme galleries are terminated in June, will there be an tightly integrate solution available?

Currently MobileMe galleries are easy to set up, maintain, and offer to others all from within Aperture.  While other excellent photo sites like SmugMug are available and have upload capability, the total integration of the MobileMe galleries with Aperture is a delight.  [Flickr may offer the integration, but I am looking for something else]
If there will be an option available in the short time before we loose our MobileMe Galleries which has the same associations with Aperture, it would be helpful to begin moving albums/photos there rather than to another site and paying for that site, only to find that it falls short.
It's hard to believe that there is no Apple plan, even if it's to a third party.  It seems to me that short of at least maintaining some form of the current tight integration of function, and outside vendor will offer what is currently available, which would include a path outside Aperture.

Do as suggested by seab20 if fibre is coming in the next few months you will see a predicted speed.
What you may have heard is the minimum speed that BT Openreach will currently supply a fibre product which is 5 Mb/sec. There is a marketing rule BT Retail apply that they will not accept an order for Infinity if the predicted speed is less than 15Mb/sec but above 5 Mb/sec they will accept an order for something called "BT Total Broadband Option 3 with Fibre". It is likely that the minmum limit will change over time especially given the government's commitment to deliver minmum 2 Mb/sec to anyone.

  • MobileMe Galleries not posting edits

I am posting edited images into a MobileMe Gallery from Aperture 3.
When I have created a gallery from scratch or am drag-and-dropping additional images, they edited images are not posting, but the unedited masters.
They edited images are in .TIFF format. Will .TIFFs not post to MobileMe?

What you have to do is publish at least one photo from Aperture using the MobileMe icon. Then you'll need to go to me.com and sign in. Go to your MobileMe galleries and select one of the albums by clicking on it once. There are a few icons along the top-center of the browser window. The icon that looks like a pair of sliders (some people say light switches) is the settings icon.
Click on that icon and choose Aperture for the "Syncs with" setting.
You will have to do that with any of the albums that you want to sync with Aperture.

  • HT5132 MobileMe Galleries Migration

Hi- How do I refuse the downloading of MobileMe Galleries and stop this message from coming up in Aperture? I have all the photos that are in my Galleries.

    Jane,
if Aperture still is downloading, quit or force quit. Launch Aperture again.
When the MM-alert panel appears, select "Learn more", not "o.k." Ignore the webpage that will be shown.
Open the Aperture preferences, then the "Web" tab, and remove Mobile Me from the "accounts" tab.
Then open the System Preferences, Mobile Me panel, and sign out of Mobile Me, if this panel still is available in your Preferences.
If this does not work, disconnect from the Internet, before you launch Aperture again.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Photo sharing replacement for mobileme galleries

    HI all,
I'm sure there are others out there, like me, who built their entire gallery strategy on using Apple's "mobileme galleries," and now you have had to find a replacement for that becuase as we all know....There will be no replacement for Galleries in iCloud, you'll need to find another service to host your photos.
So..what have you people done to solve the issue.
I'd love to know. I am still using iWeb and have a host for my site, but I need something to get some galleries on display. I used to love using the  "mobileme galleries" and really miss that so much. It was so elegant and simple.
If there are any suggestions you can share, please fire away.
Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

The following if from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?
On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

  • Phantom mobileme galleries / iphoto 11

I am working with Iphoto '11 and mobileme.  My mobileme galleries includes 20 albums which do not exist on Iphoto and can not be deleted from mobileme (because if logged into mobile me and you attempt to click on the gallery it then gives you error message "Unable to connect to mobileme," which is rubbish because remain connected whole time and can appropriately click through to non phantom albums).  The phantom albums do represent albums previously synced with mobileme from earlier versions of iphoto.  But I can not see them on iphoto so that I can delete them!  Have rebuilt/repaired iphoto 11 repeatedly.  Mobileme support says this is iphoto issue and directed to me to 1-800 etc.  The galleries that do show up in photo are accurately syncing with mobileme galleries and work just fine.  I also tried deleting manually from idisk but it said I did not have access due to permissions.  It is almost as if it is syncing with different iphoto library?  But I don't have another iphoto library...  argh!  Any thoughts?  If a public user clicks on phantom album, he/she gets the list of pictures but not the actual pictures.

I probably don't have a solution to your problem but maybe something you can try.  I've been having the same issue for about a year.  It's something I've just dealt with until recently when I needed to show photos to a current client, while the phantom galleries for an older competing client still appeared on gallery page--had to workaround via flickr.
Anyway...I spent an excruciating hour having a live chat w/ someone at mobileme.  She indicated that the problem was in my iDisk folder.  She instructed me to go to iDisk>web>sites>gallery.  She thought I'd see the phantom galleries there -- I didn't; only saw the current newer galleries.  Anyway, if you see them, delete them, perhaps it will work for you.  If I figure it out, I'll post here.  Please do same.  Good luck.
