MobileMe getting revamped?  How reliable is MobileMe

I asked this question before, and it morfed into something else.  I have read a lot of articles, that have good reason to believe that Apple is revamping MobileMe.  I am just wondering when this might happen.  Talk of a music cloud is one of the things people are saying.  What I am getting is a bunch of complaints about MobileMe.  So, now I have 2 questions........   1.  Is MobileMe going to be revamped, and if so when?    2.  How reliable is MobileMe?

Yes, for all the blather from Apple about how great macs are for business, in the very next conversation they will tell you "it's not for business use". - well excuse me, where was that in the deal when I bought from the business advisor at my apple store? I think they should be more honest about the limitations of the services supplied - that is all. There are statistical limits on calandar entries and address book entries and when i find that again in the CHAT records will post it here.
Nobody's EVER claimed MobileMe is for businesses.  Phil Schiller made it clear in its intro in 2008 that it was "Exchange for the Rest of Us".  I.e. non-business types.

  • How Reliable is SamKnows?

Just seen the FTTP and FTTC dates on the SamKnows site.
    Dare I hold my breath?
Have not seen any new cabs about the area but Keith does have FTTC and my exchange piggybacks off it.
Had nothing from BT about this so am wondering how reliable the site info is, being third party.

    Thanks gg30340
Hmm... I should have gone on the Openreach site before posting but there I see:
    Exchange name: Grange
Superfast Fibre is in your area but
    we can't tell by your
postcode/number if you can get it
    right now. Please contact your
communications provider, who can check using your phone
    number.
I rang BT (UK) and was told they have only the info from the sites I have.
I'll give it a month and try again.
    Thanks again

  • How reliable is the HH3?

Will soon be on my 3rd HH2 as the replacement one now decides to restart itself when ever I look at the adsl stats so wanted to see here if it's worth while me buying or trying to get BT India to send out a HH3 instead.
So how reliable are you guys finding them?

I've only had the HH3 for 4 days (new to the HH and to BT). The HH3 doesn't have a modem built-in, so in that sense it is not a direct replacement for the HH2 which does I believe?
The wireless is pretty good - a wireless-N device - except that it's not simultaneous dual band (ok, I was hoping) - either 40Hz or 20Hz, not both it seems. I also had problems getting two smart(ish) phones to connect reliably (Nokia E65 and Nokia C3 - which just wouldn't connect). This may be partly the phones fault, but anyway, I actually got around this by connecting my old (US Robotics) router and enabling a 2nd wireless network!?
You can connect a USB mass storage device. Does the HH2 have USB?
There are no flashing lights indicating activity, just 3 steady blue ones - although that's not got much to do with reliability!

  • How reliable is the Mac Mini or iMac (2009) models?

Greetings to you all. I have a question directed at anyone who owns the 2009 Mac Mini or has recently bought a Mac Mini either last year 2009 or this year, 2010. My Acer Aspire L-100 finally died on 29th Dec 2009 as a result of USB failure caused by a windows auto update. Fed up with Microsoft, I am thinking about switching over to Mac and thought the Mac Mini or iMac would be a good start. I am however troubled by the numerous complaints I am reading on the Apple website posts regarding the 2009 model Mac Mini loosing sound after a month or two of use and some posts claim that the sound on their Mac Mini is distorted, crackling and some had broken systems out of the box. How many of you have had similar sound issues with the Mac Mini? Also, is it better to get the iMac 21.5 inch instead? Has anyone had hardware issues with the Mac Mini and or the 21.5 inch iMac in less than 2-6 months of use? If so please let me know so that I can make up my mind, whether to purchase Mac computer platform or just build my own customized machine. What I need to know is, how reliable or durable is the mac mini computer, especially the 2009 model and how does the mac mini, especially with its small size, handle temperatures? Does the mac mini overheat? Please help. All information will be highly appreciated.

Remember, Apple offers a 1 year hardware warranty and 90 days free software support, both of which can be extended to three years from date of computer's purchase. This means if you appear to have what is a technical issue with your machine off the bat, Apple will cover the lemon issue, if it is obvious it is not an issue you the user could have caused. Mind you, if issues appear much later during the ownership, it gets harder to justify that it is a manufacturer issue. As long as you don't upgrade the internal hardware, the hardware test CD that comes with the machine will be able to tell if there is a manufacturer issue with the machine. All bets are off, if you change the RAM, or hard drive beyond the specs of the machine. Apple publishes the specs of the machine on http://support.apple.com/
Your machine shouldn't overheat unless you excede the published specs.
The advantage of the Mac is that malware and viruses are practically a nonissue, and everything you usually could desire is already built-in to the machine. So while you could build your own machine, you can't really get the integrated hardware and software as you do with the Mac.
Yes, the 27" iMac has been hit hard with issues, more around the display than anything else. I for one, if were forced to get an iMac, would get the 21.5".
I've not seen any specific Mac Mini issues really come to the fore.
If sound is lost on a Mac Mini, it usually is due to the fact that minijack connectors themselves are fragile to begin with, and endusers tend to jiggle them a lot in the connector, causing the connectivity to get lost. If you are careful to follow these directions about cables*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/frayguide.html
You should avoid most of those issues. Thankfully there are 5 USB ports on Mac Minis, and USB audio is frequently better than the built-in audio, except when adding your own 5.1 speaker system with mini-Toslink connector speakers.
Don't forget the number of posters to this board, don't even amount to 1 tenth of a percent of all purchasers of iMacs, Mac Minis, or MacBooks any one quarter. Thus the remark you said was "rude" is not. It is factual. You are basing your information on what amounts to less odds of happening than a space program disaster with NASA. Mostly people who have problems are posting, and those who don't rarely do post.
I recently had a hard drive die after the three year warranty was spent, but hard drives I've seen die on Acers and Dells on the first day of ownership too, so that's nothing new. Backing up your data is the best way to deal with data loss*:

  • How reliable is SAPupStat.log?

    Hello World,
got the EHP5ERP6 -> EHP7ERP6 upgrade from hell going here, and step Preprocessing has been churning away for three days straight(!)
SAP is, as usual, of next to no help in figuring out reliable ETA estimates.
I want to know how reliable the time stats in SAPupStat.log are for predicting the ETA on this roaster.
We got mild swapping on OpSys level (~300MB), a ~600GB MaxDB DB and an 8CPU Server with 15GB RAM.
The hardware isn't too fascinatingly fast, but the claim of that SAPupStat.log file that it plans to keep on going like this for another three days (2014/08/12 11:56:36:  55.51% LEFT: 78:24:51 END: 2014/08/15 18:21:27) is just ludicrous.
I set MaxCPUs to 4 in the database and the cache buffers show 98%-99% hit ratio.
For the life of me I can't figure out why this thing is crawling like that, but this delay gets us close to meltdown "speed".
Anybody got any suggestions on this one?

Yup, its just finishing up step "Preprocessing" - after three days solid(!)
Its sooo frustrating not to be able to give the business a reliable estimate on the ETA.
Also, I am (desperately) trying to figure out when/where (Source or Shadow) CVERS and UVERs are updated, as the first test run bumped out in Post(!)processing, because three entries in CVERs didn't match up with UVERS.
SAP's genius tool SUM had simply "forgotten" to upgrade three basis components, I assume it was because of a faulty stack file, but SUM never complained about it, and since it wasn't my SolMan setup, I can only prove that indirectly (that old stack file lists EHP6 as a "replaced product", even so we started out with EHP5-ERP6).
WTF SUM didn't catch that at the beginning is beyond me, I simply trusted what MOPz had calculated and went for it (just got these systems handed over to me a few weeks ago).
In any case, I am trying to figure out if I am on the safe side now, or in for another bad surprise.
But I can't get a straight answer from SAP to that, and now it seems like I'll have to wait another three days(!) before I'll find out "the hard way", if that stack file was any better than the last one.
This is ridiculous, a whole week and SAP replies once a day to the help ticket I opened up about this.
We already had to postpone the Prod switchover, because everybody is now behind on testing :-(

  • How reliable is the 2014 MacBook Air and its PCle Flash storage?

I'm planning on buying one from my local Best Buy, but I don't know how reliable it really is. I love the idea of having all day battery life, which is a huge plus for me, and the thinnest of it is simply amazing. I did heard that it has some sort of SSD, which I'm assuming it's PCle flash storage, that makes things so much faster. I don't know anything about them, so correct me if I'm wrong. But is the SSDs reliable? just don't want to get something that's going to be a paperweight in a year. I was expecting to keep mine for, let's say, 3 or more years, which is what I usually do with my notebooks.
Anyway, long story short, is the MacBook Air durable, and worth the investment?

That's good. So, in other words, the early-2014 MacBook Air model - with PCle flash storage and a Haswell processor - is a good notebook that should last me a very long time (with proper care)? I'm going to college soon, and I was planning on sticking with this notebook for 4-8 year - for college work, and every day (casual) use. I heard MacBook Airs, or any MacBook with a SSD, are extremely reliable, but I don't know if that's true.
I never bought a MacBook  so please forgive me if my questions are annoying.

  • How reliable is the ipod nano's?

I am currently a disgruntled Zune 30 user. I have to send my player into Microsoft for them to fix it. I'll be without my Zune for 15 days and it's going to kill me. I am not here to start a Zune vs. Ipod discussion. I only want to know how reliable the ipod nano is. I am looking at purchasing the 8GB. I really don't want to have to go through this with the ipod if I decide to purchase one.
Are they pretty reliable? What happens if something does happen to them? How long does it take for them to get it back to you?

I've had my 3rd gen Nano since they came out (9/07). I use it for running and have never had a problem with it. I've had iPods since the first 5 gig iPod (yes, children, full sized iPods used to be 5 gigs). My 60 gig iPod Photo is having some problems according to the person I passed it on to. All of the others, including the original are still working (okay, the hold button on my 5th gen doesn't work but that's because I dropped it onto a tile floor from a height of 3 feet). I did have to send one iPod in (forget which one) for a bad headset jack. Turn around time (my hand to Apple back to my hand) was 5 business days. I remember because I was amazed. As my iPod was over 6 months old and I didn't have Applecare, I had to pay $29.99 for shipping.
Your mileage may vary. You could get a lemon. It happens with any manufactured product. That's what warranties are for. My experience has been positive.
    Best of luck.

  • How reliable is the iPad?

Just wondering how reliable the iPad is

How reliable is it in terms of the system and the software? Does it crash easily? Does software always work?
It's difficult because I don't know what to compare it to, but in general:
    very
    no
    yes
The last depends on the software, but everything available for iOS has to be approved by Apple, who subject it to many stringent quality control tests before it is released for sale. Poorly written software or apps that are not a good value get poor reviews, so look for yourself before purchasing.
My iPads have exceeded my expectations. I have never experienced a crash or anything resembling instability. For such a versatile product, I can't believe they price them so inexpensively.
Don't drop them. If you must drop one don't let it fall onto anything harder than a carpet.

  • How reliable is the Apple "check availability" web page?

I have a couple friends that checked the web site for availability of a 16gb black 3g. The web site stated " not available". They even called the store to confirm. However, when they stopped by the apple store at lunch they had plenty of 16gb black 3g. So how reliable is the web site? Has anyone else experienced this? I live over an hour away and I want to know for sure they have 3gs available before I drive that far.

The availability page reports shipments in transit to the selected Apple Store. Sometimes shipments do not match what's expected (they may get more of one type, less of another), sometimes weather delays prevent shipments from arriving as scheduled. It's an estimate, nothing more.
Unfortunately, the bottom line is that you can't +"know for sure"+. The only sure bet is to order one at an AT&T Store via Direct Fulfillment - then, when you are informed your phone has arrived, it will be there. But if you're in a hurry, a trip to the Apple Store would be quicker, if they do, in fact, have them when you arrive.
As of late last week in my area, there were still long lines prior to store opening (>30 people) - more people in line than phones in the shipment. So even though they are listed as available, they may not be by the time you get there.
    Hope this helps...

I have the new iOS 7 and am getting texts from another family members phone and they are getting mine how do I disable this without changing accounts

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You could simply set each device to only use a single telephone number (settings > messages > send & receive, but this isn't really an ideal solution since the other person can always change their settings and see your messages and send messages that appear as if they are from you. There is only one real solution and that's to have your own accounts.

You each need to have separate Apple IDs and separate user accounts. Better yet, separate computers as well.

  • How reliable is DUPLICATE .. FROM ACTIVE DATABASE ?

    Version : 11.2.0.3
    Platform : OEL 6
DUPLICATE .. FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE doesn't involve taking any RMAN Backup files. Right? Just transferring data across the network.
Given that I have a good network throughput, how reliable it is to use this feature to create a standby from a 2 TeraByte Primary ? The standby DB will be created in our Data Center located 50KM away from the Primary Site.

Do not consider of the distance, Consider the bandwidth speed between two sites and how fast data can transfer and how stable it is.
You can test the network speed by transferring any one of the big file using SCP also, On top of that you can estimate how much time it can complete and ensure there is no network glitches/interruptions to avoid failure duplicate.

  • HT201412 Can't get on FaceTime says wifi not connected but I can get mail, how?

Can't get FaceTime to work, my wifi says not connected but I can still get mail, how can this happen?

I was having the same problem. I've probably screwed things up royally by doing so, but I just went ahead and created another Apple ID with a different email address, and will inform anyone who I will be using FaceTime with to use the new one. I tried using the "multiple ID finder" thing but it only ever returned the ID I'm using right now; I can't verify the email address this ID is associated with for some reason.
    It's a clusterfark.
