MobileMe iWeb '09 Publishing Issue

I am trying to publish a website using MobileMe. I have all of my files in iDisk/Web/Sites folder. I have already set the CNAME of my site to web.me.com and set my personal domain on my MobileMe account to my domain (sevanskateboarding.com). I haven't been able to view my site online. How might I be able to view my site online. I have tried typing in my URL and clicking the link in the iWeb section of iDisk on me.com. I cannot access my site.
I have been able to publish and view my site to Dropbox/dot.tk hosting so it is most likely not an iWeb issue.
Thanks in advance!

Do as I suggested in your other topic and enter the  MobileMe URL in the browser to make sure the site is published correctly before you try to troubleshoot the domain name forward.

  • IWeb Ftp Publishing issues

Hi all hope someone out there has an answer for my dilema. Have a site xxxx.ca and i have created a site on Iweb for this and called it xxxx.ca
Now here comes my problem I use the FTP in Iweb with these settings
    Site Name: xxxx.ca
    my email
    Server Address76.74.128.xxx
    user name:------
    PaSSOWORD:------
    Dir/Path: /public_html
    Ftp   port 21
    Url:  http://-------
after it uploads to server files doo upload but they create another directory. so instead of going to www.xxxx.ca  it comes up www.xxxx.ca/xxxx.ca
    Why the extra directory????

In order to avoid the dubble site name you must publish your website to a Local folder then upload just the contents of the site folder to your web host

  • I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, how can i publish to iCloud?

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • IWeb wont publish updated pages to site using Mobileme

Tried to publish 2 updated pages to my current iWeb site published on Mobileme. Am directed through a Facebook username and password login. (Don't remember this step from prior publishing.) Then nothing happens. No site update. No option to publish site available within iWeb. And no way I see to save my changes made in iWeb before I exit the program to try to figure out. I have lost work twice. What is happening and how do I correct the trouble?

You must have checked the box next to "Update my Facebook profile when I publish this site."
Click the site name at the top of the left column in iWeb to get to the Publishing Settings page to change this.

  • MobileMe publishing issue

    Hello there,
my Aperture is publishing my galleries at homepage.mac.com/membername instead of the new MobileMe Gallery address (gallery.me.com/membername).
Any ideas of why and how to fix it?
In Aperture preferences there's no option to switch between the two of them...and when I click the "Publish to MobileMe" button I already see the proposed address with the mac.com address and not the MobileMe.
    Hope I was clear
    Thanks in advance
    Paolo

If you get an answer let me know. When I try to upload a web page to "mobileme" it loads to .mac and provides an unusable link. The Aperture tutorial on Apple site is bogus because in the "creating a web page" tutorial, the button says"publish to mobileme GALLERY" not "publish to mobileme".
    It is a bad flaw.

  • IWeb not publishing movies

Hey there. I'm new to these forums, so go easy on me. I searched the forums for this topic and didn't find anything related to my problem. Recently, I started using iWeb to build a site, and I had a huge problem, and that problem is that iWeb only publishes some of my movies. Now, the format I've been using is the Apple TV settings in Final Cut Express. I realize that iWeb likes small files for uploading. But, with the formats and files sizes being about the same (150-200 megs) why is this happening? Initially, what I did was delete the movies page, create a new one, and sometimes this would work, but not all the time. That, I think is what is most frustrating - The fact that there is this randomness in troubleshooting. I've brought up the overlay and examined my assets in relation to each other, but I can't see any conflict there. I really don't want to export from Final Cut or Quicktime in a web format, as there is a such a huge loss in quality, obviously. Does anyone know of a workaround to keep these movies in a higher quality and have them be compatible with iWeb. By the way, my iDisk is empty, so that's not the issue either. Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to the discussions. You could try importing your movies into iMovie and then publishing to MobileMe Gallery:
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/#mobileme
Then you can pseudo embed your Gallery movie into your iWeb site — here's a video tutorial briefly showing that about half-way through:
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/web/iweb08.html#tutorial=livecontent
...Visitors will have a full-screen option to view your movies and an advantage for you is that the movies are no longer in iWeb's Domain file — so site re-publishing times are shorter. There's more about MobileMe Gallery here:

  • Sometimes get error "looking for something on MobileMe?" after publishing via ftp server

I published a website I created on iWeb via an ftp server.  Sometimes it works, but sometimes I get the error "Looking for something on MobileMe?"  My web host says all my settings are correct, so the problem is likely to be in iWeb.  How can I fix this?

I use FatCow as both my domain registrar and my web host, a similar service to GoDaddy.  The FatCow tech support said all my settings were correct.  Here's a pic of the iWeb Site Publishing Settings page:
When I try "Test Connection," it succeeds.
I originally published using MobileMe, then switched to ftp using FatCow.  The ftp publishing worked at first, then I started getting the error message intermittently, now get it all the time.  The FatCow tech thought that something is likely to be imbedded in the code that is taking it to MobileMe.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • IWeb Stopped Publishing

*IWeb stopped publishing. Recently, when I clicked on the "publish" button while in IWeb, I never got a notification of the new publication and the "publish" button was not lit up anymore. Then, more recently, I noticed all of the icons for my sites which, have been published are in "red" instead of "blue." And when I click on the "publish" button I get a pop up window telling me an error occurred during the publishing process and to "please try again later." Thanks for your help!*

I found the answer to this problem on MobleMe. There was a announcement about maintenance as follows: Maintenance - 6/30/2009, 22:00-23:30 PT
*"Due to scheduled maintenance, MobileMe members may be intermittently unable to access the www.me.com web apps. Normal service is expected to be restored at the end of the maintenance window. We apologize for any inconvenience."*

  • IWeb slow publish

I'm curious about why iWeb publishes certain sites so slowly while others publish at a reasonable rate.
I ran across an article in this forum about a program called iWebSites that separates the different files and allows you to work with one at a time and save them as different sites rather than as divisions of the same file, which seems like it could speed up the process and help some of my iWeb lag issues. Does anyone know whether it's still usable with all the upgrades?
Also, I don't see any real answers to why iWeb seems to publish slowly since the Lion upgrade (honestly I don't know whether it's Lion or my interface with 1&1, my hosting site) and most of the more complete answers are from long ago. I was wondering whether there are ways to make it publish more quickly that I might not be aware of since I'm not very experienced (but am working to learn).
    Thanks for any help!

What version of iWeb are you using?  If you're using iWeb 3 then you only publish one website at a time so iWebSites is not needed. iWeb 2  publishes all the websites in the same domain file each time any site is published.
The sites that load more slowly: do then have more photos, movies and/or music files on their pages?
Users have reported the iWebSites does work with Lion.  Also, in Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Or you can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

  • Can I still create new sites in iweb and publish them to mobile me?

Can I still create new sites in iweb and publish them to mobile me? Also Can the sites not contain movies or photos, or just not a full gallery?

You can have as many sites and domain names on a single MMe account. However, only one site can use the CNAME domain name forwarding while the others must use URL forwarding.
Multiple Sites with Domain Name(s) in a Single MobileMe Account
Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/SiteName, or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding. This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site. This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.
Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site. This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method. Just use URL forwarding . This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses CNAME forwarding. Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE: the CNAME method provides a shorter URL: http://www.DomainName.com/Site_Name/PageName. CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:
    http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/Domain_Name/PageName.
With domain name masking that will be shortened to:
http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site. If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page. Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.

my iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.
    What's the answer?
    Thanks

Many thanks to  responded to my question and sorry not to get back sooner.
Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server.  Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question:  I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?
Thanks again for your help ...

  • Having publish issues, there might be hope

I have been on the phone with applications and .Mac for the past 1.5 hours. We created a "test" .Mac account and they had me publish a new blank site... everything went through fine, then I switched over to "my" .Mac account and I got the same error I've been having for 2 weeks. They are currently looking at the reason why the Web/Sites folder is not allowing write permissions. I'm hoping this will be resolved shortly.
I will keep you informed to anything new we try.
edit: I've been passed on, to recieve a call back on Monday from the .Mac group; perhaps more phone calls from you that are having problems will get this moved along faster. I had him include in his notes for my case (84884621), that hundreds of people are having this issue.... please make a call (800-275-2273)

I am having the same problem since yesterday. I'm so close to going with another web hosting provider. This kind of thing has been going on too long. When you have a web site that people and other bussiness depend on, the host should be rock solid in terms of service and dependability. Here is my log file that I received when the error came up:

  • Lost Domains & Publishing Issues

Up until a few days ago my iWeb site supported three domains: www.bundleofhiss.com; www.teahouseconcerts.com; www.teahousetap.com. The teahouse domains have disappeared from my iWeb, though not from the internet, and I don't know how to get them back so I can work on them. Any ideas out there?
Compounding that problem, I've been trying to publish the changes in the bundleofhiss site since yesterday - I've tried publish all about 10 times and I get one of two error messages: network issues; or error publishing. I've had the errors before, but never with this consistency. I'm having a hard time believing my network has been malfunctioning for the passed two days. Again - help!

Do you have a backup of you HD or those files? What version of iWeb are you running? That was a problem with an early version of iWeb 2, publishing a site from a separate domain file would delete the other domain files in the same location.
Download Find File and search for "domain.sites2". Find File searches in every nook and cranny of the HD whereas Spotlight has many locations as verboten. If you don't find the other domain files you'll have to recreate the other sites from scratch. Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • How big is my site? Could size cause publishing issues?

How can I find out if my site will fit in the available space on my mobileme prior to publishing? I had a site published, using a personal domain, prior to the conversion from .mac to mobileme. I recently made changes/additions to the site, and now it won't publish. I've double checked my forwarding and CNAME information and all seems to be correct. The site publishes to a folder without any problems, but not to mobileme, even when I use Publish All. Could the publishing issues be related to the size of the site?

I've been using Host Excellence for a number of years. Their reliability is good as is their tech support.
I particularly like the way I can name my own root folders and the ease and speed of registering a domain name and setting up a new site.
I wouldn't want to think about how big my latest site is getting.
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/ is built on ten different domain files for ease of updating and way quicker uploading. This is another approach you could consider.

  • When iWeb finishes publishing, drop down shows wrong address

It's kinda weird. When iWeb finishes publishing my website, a drop down window asks, do you want to visit, announce, or finish. If you click visit, it goes to www.gogoglidepath.com/gogoglidepath. It should say www.gogoglidepath.com. Anybody know how to fix it? I know it's just a little bug, but it bugs me.

Well, no actually it is not incorrect, because that is how iWeb will publish. It will publish using a site folder with the same name as you called your site within iWeb. Did you name your site gogoglidepath in iWeb? If so, if you don't like it then you need to go back and change this in iWeb to something short like Site or S or whatever. That is how iWeb does things so your url is http://www.domain.com/sitename/pagename.
Are you publishing to MobileMe and forwarding your domain name or publishing direct to your host? If using MME there is not a lot you can do about this apart from changing to web forwarding from CNAME forwarding so that your url will be http://www.domain.com. You can then only bookmark the whole site rather than pages.
If uploading directly, you can upload just the contents of your site folder rather than the whole folder itself.
