MobileMe mail won't turn on

I have a MobileMe account set up to sync calendars and contacts, but email is usually turned off. Now mail won't turn on. It claims to set it up, but when I go to mail there are no accounts, in settings mail syncing as turned off again. Ive tried restarting the iPad and now the mail preferences are stuck on 'accounts are currently syncing' so I can't even delete the account to set it up again.

See if resetting the iPad will either solve the problem or allow you to delete the account so that you can recreate the account.
Reset iPad:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I keep getting a message "The MobileMe IMAP server ... rejected the password for ...."  I can use that password when I go to iCloud, but my e-mails won't download to my computer.  What's the mix-up?

I keep getting a message "The MobileMe IMAP server ... rejected the password for ...."  I can use that password when I go to iCloud (and to this discussion), but my e-mails won't download to my computer.  What's the mix-up?

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

  • Mail won't let me turn off Server Authentication for .Mac accounts

Greetings. Mail won't let me alter my server settings for .Mac. I am attempting to turn off "server authentication" so that I can use my .Mac account via mail through a hotel network, but every time I change the setting and exit the preferences screen Mail automatically reverts back to the previous setting. Ideas?

Set up a new account for that with account type either IMAP or POP (not .Mac) as you desire.

  • Mail won't work unless I use my MobileMe account which is dead

I've been trying to use my Apple Mail app in 10.6.8, but whenever I try to it asks for my MobileMe password. It then tries to set up a MobileMe mail account. I don't want nor need any account except my work account. I try to delete the MobileMe account in the Mail preferences window, but it keeps coming back. This is a dead application, so I'm not sure what is happening. When I try to create my work account it tells me it can't verify the password. Very strange. The words "MobileMe IMAP" appear after Account Type in the Accounts window and it cannot be deleated! It then tries to guide me to set up an additional account and it automatically puts in my five years defunct mac.com account! What is going on! I have to go through the motions of this bogus account before it lets me go any further to set up a functional email account. How do I get rid of this ghost account? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Michael,
If Mail won't allow you to change the settings when setting up a new account, you may want to make sure that "Automatically set up account" isn't enabled. You may find the following article helpful:

Check out the article below to troubleshoot issues with connecting to WI-Fi. You may want to reset the Network Settings by going to Settings > General > Reset  > Reset Network Settings. • When I set up an iCloud mail account, it turns into a mobileme account!

There is no more mobileme.  But when I try to set up an iCloud account in Mail, it gets turned into a mobileme account, uses mobileme servers, etc.

Sign in with your Apple ID in System Preferences>iCloud and check Mail in the checklist there. If you are setting up using an Apple ID which takes the form of a non-Apple email address you will be asked to create and icloud.com address and Mail will be set up with it.

  • I dropped my iPhone 4S, and now it won't turn on...

I just got it, and I dropped it, and now it won't turn on. I usually always have cases on my phones, but I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. And just my luck, I dropped it.
I tried plugging it in to my computer, and it just makes the sync noise repeatedly. But won't turn on. Is this fixable? I really can't afford to buy a new one at $600. this close to Christmas. Please help me!

Hmm. That helps. But I just got it through my service provider, so its only a week old. Lets hope its less then the $200!
    Thanks!

  • Why does my Mac Mail programme keep turning on the SSL option?

For a couple of years now my wife's Mac Mail programme has from time to time stopped getting most of the emails sent to it for a week or more. I've wasted many hours on the phone to our service provider without ever getting to the bottom of the problem. Now I believe I know what's been happening. It seems that her Mail preferences keep turning on the SSL option without any human involvement. Apparently emails sent to an SSL selected email address will only make it into her in-box if they come from an SSL selected mail programme. Yesterday, scratching my head as to why, once again, few emails were getting through, I once again looked at the preferences and noticed that the SSL option, which I had recently unchecked, was once again checked. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. And so on, for ten minutes when, suddenly, it remained unchecked.
Why is this happening? My wife never, and I mean never fiddles with settings on her computer and nobody else uses it. The checking of the SSL option is being done entirely at the behest of the machine itself. Can anybody tell me how this could be happening? And could anybody tell me how I can stop it from happening again?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Just set up icloud and now mail won't...

I just set up icloud on my mac and now my mail won't recognize my password. Formerly, on mobileme i had the main computer which was pre-intel so now I'm switching to my intel mac. Everything is fine on cloud, all the data is there, but on my computers (intel computer and also pre-intel) when I try to check my mail it keeps saying that it doesn't recognize the password. I get mail fine on my iphone, and when I log into icloud but not on my computers (pre-intel or intel).

It's because you are using Leopard.  You will need to either upgrade your Mac to Snow Leopard then Lion or manually set up mail on your Mac in Mac Mail.  http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html is a link to a tutorial online on how to set up your mail manually on your Mac.  MobileMe is offering a free upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  The link is me.com/snow-leopard.  You can redeem a free disc to get your Mac to Snow Leopard, you will have to pay for the upgrade to Lion yourself though.

  • Imac won't turn on and gives me 3 beeps

Ok - I am completely clueless here. My father's iMac - left overnight in sleep mode - won't turn back on. I held down the power button and waiting for over a minute, then turned it back on. It gave me 3 loud beeps and won't turn back on - the power button light flashes green and yellow. Anyone have any ideas what is going on and if this is fixable? HIs computer is an iMac G3 333mhz (I think)
Odd things that have been happening the past month or so: Safari browser gone out of whack - graphic / text loading funny - Switched to Firefox. MAIL started yesterday acting weird. Usually left open, but with the window closed - was unable to open window. When I selected new message window I would get a new window the folders wouldn't show, nor would the toolbox on top. Had to go to the menues and have them show. But then I closed this window, another window, without these feature would appear and I would not be able to close it at all. Finally had to delete the preferences and add the email accounts info again for it to work again properly.
I have no idea if this was telling me that something was starting to be wrong with the computer. I just took it that my father did something he wasn't suppose to do (He is really computer illiterate and can only do basic stuff on the computer when he's alone)
I hope he hasn't lost his computer completely - I don't want him having to use MINE (for the reasons above!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Rebecca

It may be marginal or defective memory that's causing the problem. This Forum is dedicated to the older CRT-screen iMacs, so I'd suggest that you post a new topic describing the problem in this Intel processor-based iMac Forum.

  • Mail won't Check emails

All of the sudden, and for no apparent reason, MAIL won't check emails.  It says that it does, it turns the wheel, but nothing comes through and it reads UPDATED YESTERDAY.   it has been like this for six hours, both on 3G and wifi.  Any Ideas! it is a 5s iPhone running on 8.0.2.   Thank you!

    Hey Tif,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with mail on your iPhone. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
    1. Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.
              - Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
                        1. Try a different Wi-Fi connection
                        2. If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
                        3. If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
    2. Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    3. Restart your iOS device.
    4. Delete the affected email account from your device.
              - Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
              - Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
              - Add your account again.
    * If you are only able to use your email account while connected to your home network, this may be a limitation put in place by your email service provider. For further support, please contact your email service provider directly.
    Thanks,

  • My iPhone 3gs just randomly turned off and won't turn back on

I was just using my phone, and nothing happened. As of lately picture mail, and videos have been sending as a text message to other iPhone users even while connected to wifi. My phone just randomly turned off and won't turn back on. I just got it in July so its not very old and I have the hard protection case on it. Is there any way that I can reset it or something?
