MobileMe - Muiliple iCals on two Macs, iPhone (Sync problem)

I have two Macs : G5 PowerMac and MacPro.
I have set up-iCal on PowerMac with a lot of Calenders to cover items like walking, music, meetings A, meetings B, activity C, etc.
Sent email from one computer to the other to Synchronised iCal. However, I am now using MobileMe. What is strange is that the PowerMac does not find the "extra" calenders that I created on the PowerMac whereas, using MobileMe as well, the iphone finds them.
I repat: both Macs synchronise iCals to the MobileMe however the extar calenders in the PowerMac are not sychronised back to the MacPro portable. However, they must be on MobileMe because the iPhoe finds them all ! Why?
Thanks. Kevin GARDINER

I think I have my own answer !
I have worked out that the only way to proceed is to select either the PowerPC or the MacPro PC as the "MAster Calender". Then in the MobileMe preferences, I reinitialse the data with a transfer from the MAster iCal to the MobileMe. I wait for the date to be transferred to Apple's site "MOBILEME". Then on the second machine, do the opposite: reinitialise the data and transfer FROM MobileMe to the computer. I then have the same updated data on both machines and also on the MobileMe site. For the iphone, it gets, within the 15mins "push" settings, the data from MobileMe. THus all four sets of dataa are synchronised.
Thanks for reading this.

Kevin

  • How can I sync my two Macs & iphone?

I am using MobileMe before and everything is perfect. I have two Macs running OS10.5, one in my office and one at home. I have an iphone running ios 5.0.1.
Can I sync them all together, eg. Contact, Calendar, Bookmark, Mail etc. How can I sync the calendar on my Mac/iphone with icloud Calendar?

I have two Macs running OS10.5
Your Macs must be running Lion v10.7 in order to setup iCloud.
First, you would need to purchase and install Snow Leopard v10.6 >  Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store
Once Snow Leopard is installed, you can download Lion 10.7.2 from the App Store.
Before you do anything, make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor

OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)

  • Sync iCal across two Macs w/o .Mac

How do I sync the iCal calendar across two Macs without using .Mac? I have heard of iSyncCal but right now their website is offline and I can't get to it. Other solutions?

    Conal Ho,
    BusySync is another option: http://www.busymac.com/index.html
    ;~)

  • Offline Mac-iPhone syncing when both are registered to MobileMe.

I know this is not the right place to post, but the correct forum seems to take a loooooot longer to produce nice answers, so, if anyone here could help, I'd much appreciate it.
    Original post:
Ok, once I have turned MobileMe on, I had all my iPhone data erased so it could retrieve everything from the cloud. It worked perfectly but left me with one doubt.
I usually travel to places where I can't access wifi and cellular coverage is terrible so, sometimes it'll be very hard to sync Mac and iPhone to MobileMe.
In this situation, will my MacBook sync contacts and calendars to my iPhone when plugged to iTunes? Will any changes made, for instance, in my iPhone Address Book sync to my MacBook when I plug it or will it wait until I can connect to MobileMe to sync them?
    Thanks.
    JP

    Well,
    Thanks for that.
To stop MobileMe is easy but, it's a boring procedure.
You simply go to Preferences on your iPhone, Mails, Contacts, etc, turn off MobileMe for the services you want to sync directly from your Mac. Plug your iPhone to your Mac. On iTunes, select the iPhone and go to the Info tab. Check the services you want to sync and click Apply. It will replace all data on the iPhone with data from the Mac. Since they're supposed to be the same data, no problem. Boring but, no problem.
    Cheers.

  • Why doesn't the iCal on my Mac Pro sync with the iCal on my iPhone?

The iCal on my Mac Pro (Lion 10.7.3) and the iCal on my iPhone (iOS 5.1) don't sync - why?  Not very impressed with iCloud at the moment.

You're looking on the wrong page, Anne.  Look at the top of that screen; you should see Summary, Info, Apps, Music, and a few other buttons up there. Click on the "Info" button. Then you'll find the options for synching calendars and contacts.

  • Having one iCal between two Macs

Hi, sorry if I don't use the right language, but I'm new here, suck with technology, and couldn't find an existing post to solve my problem.
I have a PowerBook at home, and I also use an iMac in my office at school. Is there a way that anytime I add a calender event to one computer, it would also add itself to the other computer? That way the two contain the same information even if I only added it on one computer.
I see that some people talk about using Google Calender, or Entourage calender, and I don't want to do that. I like iCal and I want to keep doing it. It's simple enough, so hopefully I don't have to join some paid service just to do that.
I don't know if that's what iSync does, or .Mac does. I thought maybe there's an easy way to write a script that can be ran to do it, or something like that.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. If there's isn't an easy way to do it, is there a cheap way to do it if I were willing to pay to use a service?

This does seem to be a popular question!
Have a look at the reply I posted recently
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8763572#8763572
Essentially, the answer to you query is that you will have to pay for it. MobileMe may or may not be more than you require. I subscribe to this and it does what you wish to achieve (and so much more...).
Software solutions are also an option. I've just looked at BusySync, for example, which costs US$25. This syncs iCal with Google Calendar, so to sync two Macs they talk to the copy of your Google.
    calendar.
Another one called ToMacs costs about US$10, and a third I found, Sync'Em has variable pricing but does seem to be designed for a workplace with Exchange servers, rather than a common or garden variety pair of domestic iCals.
As I advised in the post I linked above, go to www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ and survey the software you find with the search term 'calendars'. Then google for some reviews.

  • Is it possible to share the same iCal on two MAC users?

Please help me. Is it possible for me to share the same iCal on two different MAC users? I know that you can sync it to an ipod or iphone, but can you share it on the same MAC with another user?
If anyone knows, please tell me! Thank you!

I think the easiest way to share calendars between the two users on the same Mac is by using Google Calendars/Calaboration.
After following the instructions in the link, export your iCal calendar and import it into the new Google Calendar. All events will appear in the new Google calendar which you can see in iCal or gmail. Set this up with the same google account information used when configuring the first user account and both users will be able to write and/or remove events in the calendar using iCal.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhone sync problem with iCal and Address Book

I have a new iPhone 4 that is not syncing contacts or events. It doesn't seem to matter whether the event or contact is created in my iMac or on the iPhone. Either way, the data doesn't move. During the iPhone synch process, where iTunes tells you what is going on, syncing calendars and contacts doesn't even appear. When I had my iPod Touch, all worked well. I saw a post about resetting in iSync, etc., but when I look there, I don't even see my iPhone, and so far I can't add it. My only option there is to add a bluetooth device. So I need some help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Chuck

    You're welcome.
You can't hurt anything by resetting the sync history on your Mac, and doing so may resolve the problem.
Syncing contacts direct with a supported Address Book application and syncing calendar events direct with a supported Calendar app on your computer via the iTunes sync process has nothing to do with a MobileMe account - a trial account or otherwise. Completely separate and not related even if you are syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone. If you are doing so with your iPhone, syncing direct with the Address Book and iCal via the iTunes sync process is not required.

  • How to using ical with two separate iphones

    hello
trying to understand and learn how to use Ical with 2 different Iphones, using Icloud.

To sync iCal across computers, the calendar needs to be published to a server. This can be a local server that you can set up, or it can be something like google or microsoft exchange or apple's mobile me. The best bet may be to wait until fall and see what iCloud offers!
Sharing your screen can be accomplished a few different ways. You can have two iChat accounts set up, and have one logged in on each computer, and then use iChat's screen share feature. The other way is to go to System Preferences, Sharing, and then check the box next to Screen Sharing. You may have to adjust some of the settings in there, but give that a shot.

  • MAC-IPHONE SYNC ISSUES / CELLULAR DATA ISSUES

I'll try to be as succinct as possible, please help, so frustrated!
I listen to about 50 podcasts per week because I am a DJ on the side. However, I can't stop my mac from syncing with my iPhone. My MacBook Air doesn't have a tonne of space, so its really an issue when 5-10 gigs are podcasts. So:
#1: how do I stop my mac from syncing with my iPhone for podcasts. I've turned off all automatic syncs, unchecked every box, unclicked "sync over wifi" etc. Still though, it feels to sync every time. Every time I remove the podcasts from my Mac, it instantly syncs to phone, and deletes everything. I've also disabled iCloud service except for "Find My iPhone". Really frustrating resubscribing to 50 podcasts for the xth number of times.
#2: to top it all off, I thought I'd download about 5 or 6 podcasts this morning before work so I could have enough just for the day to listen to tracks while doing my day job. All of the podcasts downloaded fully and are showing blue-balled in the menu waiting to be listened to. However, at work, and none of them will play without cellular data turned on. They are already downloaded to my phone but now my iPhone wants to stream them anyway? I'm already at 700 MB of a 2 GB monthly plan and its like 6 days into my new cycle.
Overall, I'm just ******. I don't know why Apple is getting the whole podcast thing so wrong. The communication between devices is not simple to fine-tune, and it seems they want their ecosystem on at all times. I could never switch from Apple because their products are in and of themselves very high quality. But this B.S. always connect, always force sync thing is getting a little old. MAKE IT MORE INTUITIVE. That's why I fell in love with you, don't drop the ball now.
Also, are there any alternative podcast apps, alternatives in general? I don't want a PC because I'm quite comfortable with the Apple suite for music production and I have a PC for work anyway.
If anybody could help turn this frown upside down that would be greatly appreciated. I will pay you in good karma.
    Ciao ciao and thanks!

    Updates!
#1: just realized today at work that my podcasts stopped updating on my iPhone. Clicking on unsubscribe on my Mac halted downloads on my iPhone as well. The journey continues. Lol screw you, Apple such a great company, but refuses to make the process of unlinking its devices impossible I'll have to look through the settings again when I have a bit more time. I'm sure there's away to unsync the two devices. It's syncing even when not connected by USB, and my "sync over wi-fi" is turned off. My guess is that its syncing through my Apple ID. Yay for B.S. lol. Updates as they come.
#2: resolved. Ensure that you don't have any podcasts lagging in your download dock. This will cause the app to want to stay connected to the internet in order to play anything back. My observation at least. Solution for me was to just stop download and try again later when connected to wi-fi.
    Yours truly,
James B. Moore (not my real name)

  • How can I keep two macs in sync?

I'm not referring to just syncing the files as I know there are services like dropbox available or file sharing. I would like to keep the mac at my office and the one at home automatically in sync. For example, if I make a change to a document at the mac in the office, the mac at home will sync the change as well. It's like working on the same computer but on two macs. How do I do that? Do I need a special program for this? Its so frustrating when I'm back home and all of sudden I need to drive back to the office to access a document. Thank you so much!

POP accounts can be set up to leave mail on the server. Thus this mail could be accessed from several different computers.
I used Eudora a while ago, and set up 2 accounts, one left email on the server, and one did not. I would normally check mail from the one that left it on the server (accounts like this on several macs). When I was ready to download the mail, then I would check it from the other account that existed on only one of the macs.
So in Mail, you could set up for POP and leave mail on the server. Then when ready to download (and not be able to see mail from various macs) you could switch to another user account, where Mail would be set up to not leave mail on the server.
However, iMap makes this whole process easier.
Normally, iMap mail can stay on the server forever. But I do like to get my mail and store it on my Mac after an arbitrary period of time. So I have set up a smart rule in Mail.
    It is GET MAIL:
if Date received is less than 10 days old
perform the following actions: stop evaluating rules
So every day the mail is received, and of course it is less than 10 days old, so the rules stop evaluating.
When I am ready to download the messages I select all in the mailbox, and use command-option-L to apply the rules. Any messages less than 10 days old stay on the server, Older messages then follow the other rules which are listted after GET MAIL. Usually these just filter mail into specific dumb mailboxes on my Mac. And/Or they could color the mail, or whatever else I choose to do with the mail.

  • Two separate iPhones syncing and backing up to one centralized iTunes library?

    Hi all,
My wife and I have two iPhone 5s' and am wondering if we can sync and back these two separte iPhones to one iTunes library? The library is located on a NAS drive on a share just labeled Music.
Ideally I would like to keep the two backups and syncs separately but have the ability to load playlists and albums from the centralized iTunes and iPhoto library.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ed

This article covers what you want to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
As long as the phones have different names you can set different sync settings for them in iTunes. However, if they have the same Apple ID for iCloud any iCloud content (mail, calendar, contacts, notes, reminders) will be duplicated. The way to deal with this is to have different iCloud accounts on each device, but use the same Apple ID for the iTunes & App Stores. This way you can share music and apps.

  • New address on IPHONE will not appear on MAC a sync problem from IPHONE to MAC

I am  having a sync problem but I don't believe many who are offering answers understand the issue.  I write/make/create a 'new' contact on my IPHONE 4 address book.  I wait for it to sync over air.  Yes, on my MAC and on my IPHONE I have it set up to sync over air.  That is what it says on the INFO tab on the IPHONE page of the Itunes when I connect the IPHONE to my MAC.
No, I will not turn off the over air sync, I do not want multiple duplicates of my addresses!
On my IPAD I have no problems, my notes sync, my address book syncs but it does not do it from Iphone to MAC???

    Hi denctanner,
I did read the post. I was simply explaining that Contacts does not sync with the OTA Sync function, it syncs via iCloud if you want to sync wirelessly....
The OTA Sync option on the Info page has nothing to do with the iCloud syncing of your Contacts....
Try deleting your iCloud account on your iPhone and signing on again. Once you have signed iCloud back on, make sure all the options you want checked are checked, and then try it again. (When you delete it, you will get a message that it will delete your Photo Stream and Document but don't worry, when you sign back on, they will come back).

  • IPhone Sync Problems with VISTA After iTunes Upgrade to 7.4

Upon upgrading to iTunes 7.4 I was unable to sync my Outlook calendar or contacts to the iPhone. Called Apple Support that they seemed to know nothing about this problem general problem despite all of the discussions on this and many other tech. boards.
After being told remove and reinstall iTunes and Outlook, set-up a new user account, etc... (none of which worked) I finally concluded that perhaps the .pst file being used by outlook was simply incompatible with iTunes for some reason (e.g. unsupported recurring calendar items).
SOLUTION: Create a new outlook .pst data file. Once created, open up that new file along with the defective .pst file. Then, simply change the view of calendars and contacts in your old calendar such that you can see all of the items in a list. Highlight the items you want to keep and simply click-and-drag them to the nes .pst file. This solves all of the sync. problems I had post-7.4 upgrade. It takes less than 3 minutes to complete this painless fix.
This was so annoying for me that I'd be happy to help someone complete this simple task if they need help. < Edited by Host, for your protection, no personal information please. >

Then it would appear to be an issue with your router. What router? Model? Is the firmware up to date?

  • Syncing iCal on two different iPhones over iTunes, 3G, WiFi?

We have two iPhones at the office. We have a desktop mac each. Is it possible (and how?) to add info in iCal of iPhone #1 and then add the info to iPhone #2 ?
And then - can this be done over 3G and/or WiFi?

    Hello, gref1975
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The best option would be to create separate user account on the computer that you separately use to sync with.  This keeps contact and calendar data from being merged together.  You can however still sync or share media with each user by following the steps in the second article below.
    Create multiple user accounts
Do you share your computer with someone who has different tastes in music and media? You can create separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. You can maintain separate, personalized iTunes libraries and customize each devices' sync settings accordingly.

    OS X Mountain Lion v10.8
    OS X Lion v10.7
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
    Windows users
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up other user accounts. To find this information:
Click the Start Menu and click Help or Help and Support.
Enter "new user" in the Search field.
    Press Return.
If you create multiple user accounts on one computer but want the same media to be available in iTunes for all users, you can share music between different accounts on a single computer.
