MobileMe OK, but old messages appearing in Mail

My daughter has a MacBook running 10.5.6 and a MobileMe account as part of a Family Pack. No problems whatsoever until this morning.
Now, when any mail arrives, it is shown correctly on MobileMe, but the e-mail that downloads into Mail is -
a.) one that was sent (and received) over two weeks last summer when the account was downloading to a different mac
b.) from a totally different person to the actual sender
So, correct mail online, but old ones (which are no longer stored on any mac, or on MobileMe itself) downloading into Mail...
Any thoughts much appreciated
Oh no!!!! I just checked the webmail and those are gone, too! What can I do? This must have something to do with the system maintenance that they're doing, right?

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

I need to change the country for my Apple store account but this message appears "You have a store credit balance; you must spend your balance before you can change stores." but my credit is 1.58$ only and I couldn't buy any app with this amount! Old messages gone in Mail.app, but still present via .Mac Webmail.
Hi. I have a .Mac account set up as IMAP in the Mail application and cannout figure out where all my old messages went. I have tried everything- there are no rules that delete them, there are no other computers or anything else involving POP in the setup... This has all worked flawlessly for years and all of the sudden the Mail application won't show the messages in my inbox if it is older than about a week. However, directly above the few recent messages left are about 15 very old Apple-sent emails (newsletters, etc).
I have tried rebuilding it in the application but it still wont show the other older messages (yet they are fully visible in the webmail viewer on the website).
Any suggestions?

avast antivirus for mac will not install unless I close safari and mail which are both off. I have shut down my imac and started again but same message when I tired to install. Help please.

Archive old messages in Apple Mail
I have several hundred clients who send me email. I have a folder set up for each one to make it easier to retrieve their past messages. I have a Mac Pro at my office at home and a PC at my office in town. I use Mobile Me to sync my email.
Does anyone know of a way to archive all the messages older than... say... 120 days in Apple mail. I know how to do it with Outlook but I don't see that functionality with Apple Mail... Am I missing something? Is there a better mail application for the MacNot certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist. -
Need to update my IPhone 4 and connected to the itunes on windows XP. I clicked on update and waited. A message appears that says," Cannot update etc. Please check your network settings/config., etc... or try again later" and it's been happening for a while. Please help.
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Click on new mail and old messages appear
Hi, I've had this problem sporadically for several months. I am using my Gmail account as well as a school account via IMAP with Mail. Every now and then I get a new message in my inbox, and when I click on it, the contents of the message, as well as the sender, subject, date, are all from a random older message in my inbox.
The new message header information appears correctly when it arrives in my inbox, but then when I click on it to read it all the info is wrong and is from an older message. When I log in directly via gmail there is no problem. Yesterday and today this has happened with five e-mails. Anyone have any ideas?

AndreasI am having exactly the same problem. I logged the problem with Apple, they tried to resolve it, determined it to be a database corruption specific to the Administrator account (problem does not occur with other users). Solution = delete Admin user & recreate. This is not a viable option for me, so I'm using Entourage for mail instead.

My i pad shows title of e mails but no message appears
my i pad mailbox shows all the emails but when i access them the from and to appears and the title of the email but below the message does not appear
Close the mail app and reset your iPad. No data will be lost.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
Voice mail alert but no messages in voice mail
Hi - after switching to new service provider I have voice mail message alerts on my blackberry pearl handset but when I go to my voice mail I have no new messages.
Any ideas how to delete the message alert? Thanks!

Sometimes those get stuck. One way to unstick them is to, from a different phone, call your BB and leave a message. Then, from the BB, retrieve the message and delete it. Sometimes that can get the stuck notification indicator to release.

Importing mailboxes & old messages from yahoo mail
Hi.
I have just figured out how to get mail to send/receive messages from my .yahoo mail account.
Now I have the problem that i have hundreds of messages sat in my yahoo account that i want to import into mail, but i really can't find a way to do it, other than sending them one by one..
Could you tell me if it's possible, and how i go about it?

Not sure what you mean. If Mail is downloading mail received on that account, it should have downloaded all the messages there, not just the new ones -- unless it’s organized in folders on the server, that is. POP mail clients can only see the messages that are in Inbox. Could that be the problem? -
When I connect the RCA Small Wonder to my MacBook Pro, the device is recognized in finder as EZ201. I tried to copy the video files in the folder but within a minute or two, I receive a message that the disk was ejected improperly, even though the device is still connected. I was able to download the first few videos before it stopped working and was able to play them using Perian. However, when I tried to connect the device again, it froze my system and I had to force a shut down by turning the computer off. Why is the device initially recongized but then shows as improperly ejected when it is still connected? How can I download the videos if the MacBook Pro won't allow the device to stay connected?

This is the one that has the files for the backups procured by the Time Machine program. But it can't "connect"-- You 'll see int he sideways pic (sorry!) that the options STILL says "connecting"

I was trying to run ITunes 10.7 update on my Mac Pro with Retina dispaly but "An error has occurred" and I was not able to proceed with the update. The message says "The operation was cancelled. (3072)." I have no other messages. Any ideas why I cannot install this update
Scott's solution fixed the problem. It would have been helpful if the update message in the App Store had reported that. I had first tried B Noir's solution -- and received a helpful warning message that a guest user was still logged in to iTunes. I switched over, logged the guest user out, switched back and the update within the App store worked perfectly.
It seems to me that Apple should invest a little time and effort in making their error/warning messages easier to decipher. I have to come to the forum every time something happens. Why not simply have a dialogue window that opens up to explain the most likely issues? -
How do i get my old text messages to my new phone.
If your old text messages were on a previous iPhone, which used the same telephone number and cellular carrier as the new one, and the previous iPhone was backed up in iCloud or iTunes, then you could restore your new iPhone using the old iPhone's backup.
If not, then you cannot get the old text messages.
UPDATE - I believe the old and new need the same Apple ID as well.
