MobileMe Sign in Glitch @ Preferences

Hi,
I have a rather odd glitch signing in at preferences MobileMe -
Yet I can sign in to iCloud - Keychain just fine.
I'm guessing 10.6 8 is the issue.

There is no MobileMe: it closed over a year ago and consequently attempts to sign into it produce an error.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
I assume you migrated your account to iCloud, and consequently you can access emails, though if you haven't set up the Mail application with the correct settings as indicated here it is likely to stop working at any time. You cannot access usage information, sync calendars or contacts, nor purchase additional storage on Snow Leopard.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
and the supported models are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Why is there not a MobileMe icon in System Preferences on my Dome?

My MacBook Pro laptop has the MobileMe icon in system preferences but the Dome does not. Both hosts contain the latest software. Will this prevent the two hosts from syncing?

You've posted this in the iSync forum - the MobileMe forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
(iSync has nothing to do with MobileMe syncing, or the MobileMe icon in System Preferences).
You might also want to clarify what you mean by "Dome" - probably means something to you, but nobody else!

  • How do I change my MobileMe sign in page to iCloud sign in on my iPad

How do I change my MobileMe sign in page to iCloud sign in on my iPad

You access your iCloud data through the apps on your iPad, such as contacts, calendars, your photo stream album in Photos, your iWork documents in the iWork apps, etc.  You can also access some of your synced data by going to icloud.com on your computer.  As posted, unlike MobileMe, there is no separate app like iDisk that allows access to your data in iCloud.

  • Unable to sign into icloud preferences, after upgrade to Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and I can't now sign into Icloud preferences but password works for everything else.

Open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair permissions. If it doesn't work, reinstall OS X 10.8.2 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581

  • Why am I directed to a MobileMe sign-in page when I try to publish iWeb

I can not publish a site because I get caught up in an endless loop asking me to sign-in. It gives me three options: Sign in; No thanks and Learn More. Jumping through all the hoops makes no difference, I still can not publish. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of your MMe account.
2 - log in with a bogus account name and password to clear the cache.
3 - log in with the correct account name and password.
4 - launch iWeb and try publishing again.

  • MobileMe sign on

I have read through tons of posts and have not found one that has helped me with my issue. I have a full subscription to MobileMe. I was on a support chat after downloading the Gallery app and wasn't able to sign on. I was told that my subscription was cancelled and to register the key again and create a new account. This took hours as the registration page would time out before it would load the confirmation page. In finally received the MobileMe welcome email. Now when I go to me.com it has the welcome page with the install info. How do I get to my MobileMe account to use gallery and syncing?

    Julian Wright wrote:

Not quite true. You cannot log in to the site using Safari, true, but with other browsers here on the iPad, you can. For that matter, you can log on to MM using GoodReader.
Various parts of the site and variable selections of the site's functions will work and can be used, depending on what you use to access it. AFAIK you can't get full functionality there no matter what you use.

  • This apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe Sign in with a different Apple ID

When I try and use my Apple ID to setup the free find my account on MobileMe I get this error after I hit the OK on the pop that reads Terms of service have changed.
"This apple id cannot be used for MobileMe. Sign in with a differant Apple ID"
I can see the TOS page behind the pop up box my Apple ID is valid
    Any Suggestions
    Thanks

I'm having the same issue with my iPad. I also used to have MobileMe, but cancelled. I seem to have two Apple ID's with the same email address. One Apple ID is not an email, the other Apple ID is my email address. They have different passwords and I can manage both. My iTunes Store one is the one without the email address. I had to use the email address Apple ID for Game Room.
I am in Live Chat Support with Apple right now.

  • MobileMe sign in problem

    Hi,
I signed up for a mobileMe trial today.
On my MacBook, everything works flawlessly, but on my Mini, that's not the case.
It first place System prefs did not offer the mobileMe update, so after installing it manually & taking the software update to mobileMe 1.1, i can't sign it, getting the "unknown validation error"
Many folks describe this error as the service being down, but i can sign in as often as i want on my MacBook, so that can't be the case.
    Any clues ?
    Cheers,
    Bob

Ok so the fix I found was to quit Mail then remove the *Mail folder* (user folder - library - Mail) then relaunch Mail and setup the account from scratch. Doing so resulted in it completing the process as expected and with no issues once setup. If you have saved messages in the old folder that you want to keep, you can always import the messages back into the new folder Mail will create. if not, simply trash the original folder. Apparently the issue lies with corrupted files in this folder.

  • HT204053 My Mac does not show icloud it shows mobileme on my system preference and I do not know how to get into icloud. I have no problem at all on my iphone. Any ideas

How do I get the icloud to show up in my system preference? It only shows mobile me and will not let me in that.

Before you do anything you should check that your Mac meets the requirements for Mountain Lion:

  • System Preferences Crashes When I Click the MobileMe Icon

System Preferences crashes whenever I click on the MobileMe icon in System Preferences. All other icons in System Preferences work -- only the MobileMe icon causes a crash. I tried deleting com.apple.systempreferences.plist, but it didn't help.
Any suggestions? I can't find anyone else who has posted about this error (although, to be honest, such a post may be hidden in all of the posts about MobileMe crashes).
    Thanks

Same here. Sys Pref crashes and sync not working. I've had the same experience on a mini with .Mac, so your problem is not an isolated experience.
The only suggestion I can offer is to go for any of the MobileMe alternatives, such as BusySync, DropBox, Spanning Sync etc. However, I don't like patchy setups like these.
I'd really love to have the MobileMe functionality, as it currently offers best integration. If it only just worked.

  • HT5527 I did not move my Mobileme account to iCloud. How can I get off the iCloud mailing list?

I did not move my Mobileme account to iCloud. How can I get off the iCloud mailing list?

If you migrated your MobileMe account before 1 August you should have signed into System Preferences>iCloud with it, and you would be able to see your calendars, bookmarks and emails on the iCloud website. Is this the case? Did you sign into iCloud with your @me.com address?
If you did not migrate your MobileMe account you can no longer do so.
If you did migrate, did you do so from a full MobileMe account or from a Family Pack sub-account? the latter did not get the complimentary storage (because their iDisks were only 5GB anyway).
If you had a full MobileMe account, check on your Mac - System Preferences>iCloud - and see whether that shows the upgrade. If it doesn't, you probably need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support (MobileMe Support is no longer available) and you may be asked to pay a fee: in this case you should ask them to deal with it without cost (and hope they agree).
Note that you haven't paid anything for your MobileMe storage since your first renewal date after 6 June 2011, and iCloud costs nothing unless you specifically choose to upgrade the storage. Note also the iCloud storage is not general file storage in the manner of the iDisk but is restricted to iOS device Backup, Mail, Photo Journal and Documents.

  • Aperture will not sync or create new MobileMe galleries.

I've updated to Aperture 2.1.2. I have MobileMe galleries that I've created previously but when I try to add new images to them and update them, a window appears telling me to sign in to MobileMe. It then takes me to System Preferences to enter my MobileMe credentials. I'm already logged in and my account is fine. But Aperture seems to not recognize that fact.
I've tried to sign out and back in to MobileMe in the system preferences but it makes no difference to Aperture. It appears I can no longer update, sync, or create new MobileMe albums from Aperture.

A Mavericks / Outlook 2011 problem - all our workstations using on 10.9.3 wont connect Exchange. All was fine until today. So far, no obvious fix.

Mail works fine on all of them but not everyone likes mail...
    Any ideas?

  • Face Time for mac does not show contacts window or allow me to sign in

My Facetime for Mac launches but does not show me my Contacts sidebar or allow me to 'Sign In'. Preferences is grayed out as well.
It works under a new user account (System Preferences > Accounts). I added a contact into the blank address book to test it out. I'm troubleshooting it right now to get it to work under my account, I think it has something to do with not fully accessing the keychain.
The tell-tell sign for me is when I launch FaceTime for Mac the preview window does not show immediately. I have to click on the app a second time for the window to appear. This does not happen under the new account
    I have already:
    - Restarted
    - Removed preferences and Caches
    - Re-installed Face Time
    - Repaired and reset keychains
    - Signed in under a different MobileMe account in System Preferences
    Any other suggestions

    SOLVED !!
After many, many more steps and close to total ruin of my MobileMe sync structure, I have the found the hidden files to remove that solved my problem.
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist temp
    ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist .6Va7JFn [+these letters may be than different yours+]
Logged out, then back in again
When I launched Facetime it worked exactly as it does on my test user account.
here are the terminal commands to try for your solution
    cd ~/Library/Preferences/
ls -A [+To get the letters for the third file+]
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ temp
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist\ .[+your letters+]

  • MobileMe Family Pack- Setting up old sub-account in Mail

This past spring we had a MobileMe Family Pack with one email account unassigned. Before MobileMe closed, i created an email address for my son, so that when he was ready to have one he would. Now i am trying to set that up for him, and am having quite a difficult time. I'm not sure if i'm setting it up wrong, or if it's even possible to do, since the account was never actually utilized before we migrated to iCloud.
I logged into his name on our iMac and tried to use System Preferences>iCloud to set it up. After asking for his name and DOB, it told me he was too young to have an iCloud account (or maybe it was an AppleID; he's 8 BTW). So, i opened Mail (which for some reason is hanging mecilessly at evey click, beachballs nonstop) and went through the setup assistant. I thought i set up an iCloud email account successfully, using the me.com email i had created back in MobileMe. I don't remember setting a password up at that time, but i put in the one i most likely would have used and it seemed to take it. But when i tried to send him a message from my Mail, it would not send because it rejected his address.
So, i went back into his Mail program and added an IMAP account using the same email address, using the incoming/outgoing server info from my account (p01-imap.mail.me.com & smtp.me.com:hisemailprefix). The incoming server for his iCloud IMAP account is not editable, BTW, and says mail.example.com in grey. Still no luck, both accounts cannot connect. When i try to check the iCloud account it says it can't connect to the iCloud server and asks for the password, and when i put in the one i used to set up the Mail account it doesn't accept it. this kind of makes sense since he doesn't seem to have a full-fledged iCloud account. When i try to check the IMAP account it says it's offline, and when i try to take it online it asks for password but won't connect. mail Connection Doctor says Mail is connecting to the internet.
Should i try to do this from my login and Mail, see if that works? Is there a way to reset the password i may have used when i originally assigned the MobileMe account? Does his Mail program constantly freezing mean something (all his other programs work fine)? Any advice is appreciated; thanks!

As you did not migrate his sub-account to iCloud when this was possible (it would have become a separate iCloud account) you cannot retrieve the contents of his account. However unmigrated MobileMe addresses (other than aliases) can be reactivated by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with them and enabling Mail in the checklist there. Until you do this the account is not an iCloud account.
As you have found there is an age limit. If you had given them an age greater than 12 you would have been able to set this up. As it is, it's not set up and no amount of setting it up manually in Mail or sending messages to it is going to work.
The iCloud Terms of Service say:
'The Service is available to individuals aged 13 years or older. If you are 13 or older but under the age of majority in your country of residence, you must review this Agreement with your parent or guardian to make sure that you and your parent or guardian understand it. Parents or guardians should also remind any minors that conversing with strangers on the Internet can be dangerous and take appropriate precautions to protect children, including monitoring their use of the Service.'
Given this, it would not be proper to advise you to apply again mis-stating his age, even if the fact that you've already told them he is 8 does not technically bar you from doing this.

  • HT204053 Mobileme to icloud

with mobileme we could have up to 5 email addresses on our account - I had my primary apple id but also a secondary business one and ones for my kids. Now with icloud I cannot figure out how to go in and delete the additional emails or create a new one. I think my subscription was family pack? I really need to delete the ones we are not using anymore

Did you have a Family Pack or did you have aliases - the latter are additional addresses, not accounts, which deliver into the same inbox as the primary address; Family Pack sub-accounts have their on login and are separate.
Aliases should have carried over when you migrated and be configurable at http://icloud.com in the Mail page - click on the cogwheel icon at top right, choose Preferences, then Accounts.
Family Pack sub-accounts should have been migrated individually and would have become full separate iCloud accounts. If you did not migrate them they have been closed and their contents deleted. You can reactivate the address for an ex-sub account by signing into System Preferences>iCloud with it, but you cannot retrieve the previous contents. In any case where you want the address to be deleted you need do nothing - it already has been.
