Mobileme to icloud - all contacts lost !

While doing the migration from my mobileme to icloud this morning, I lost all my contacts !
I did the migration online, on a Mac, on me.com website.
Is it supposed to happen ???

At the top it does say All contacts, when I select that I only get my Exchange contacts. On the Groups page I have All Contacts, then Exchange and at the bottom All iCloud. If I select All icloud I only see one contact, mine?!
I do not see any list with my [email protected] My contacts were initially on MobileMe, when I got my iPhone 4 I transfered them to the phone so they were stored on both. I was synching with my me.com account and when I was on iCloud the contacts were nowhere to be found.
I just spoke to an Apple "genius", they told me I probably messed up the backup on outlook, my contacts are lost forever. Starting to wonder why I chose Mac, in this case I got done just like with Microsoft!!

  • E-mail addresses in Apple Mail not showing up in Apple Contacts (iCloud All Contacts)

I've been going though my contacts in the Apple Contacts app, which I have set up to use iCloud, deleting old contacts and cleaning up messy ones. And I've noticed there are a lot of e-mail addresses that I have in Apple Mail - I just start to type a few letters in the To: field and they come up - that are nowhere to be seen in the Contacts app.
Shouldn't these be in my Contacts app? Where else would these contacts be stored? And is there a way to sync them into my iCloud All Contacts or do I have to manually track each one down and add it in the Contacts app?
Quick edit to add: I've also now noticed that the same applies on my iPhone. E-mail addresses appear in iOS Mail that are not in my iOS Contacts app (I've performed a search to be doubly sure). Where do these contacts live and why are they not in my Contacts apps?

I do have both of those, but only iCloud shows up in my Contacts sidebar, and addresses are being sent there so I guess it's the default. Funny how this stuff is all so murky.
    Not murky at all:
And as the On My Mac account does not show then it is empty. (It's visible if it is the default or if it has any content)
I haven't come across your last point, (no email address) so no help there I'm afraid.

  • Same iTunes, different iCloud accounts: all contacts lost from one iPhone appeared on the second iPhone

    Hello there.
    Got following situation:
iPhone A - iTunes Store (Apple-ID) account = [email protected] / iCloud account = [email protected]
iPhone B - iTunes Store (Apple-ID) account = [email protected] / iCloud account = [email protected]
Somehow all contacts in iPhone B disappeared and appeared on iPhone A (together with the ones already existing).
    My questions:
    what's the cause of this?
how do I get back (iPhone A with only its original contacts, iPhone B with the "disappeared" contacts)?
After I will have put everything back as it was a couple of days ago, I'd change the iCloud email for iPhone A, so that it doesn't match the Apple-ID anymore: do you think this might help?
    Thanks and regards,
    Flavio.

    Hi there.
Thanks for your reply. Somehow after logging into the iCloud account of "iPhone B", the contacts reappered on the iPhone B itself!!! Weird!
Now, I'd still like to do the change for "iPhone A" and move the iCloud login/account away from the Apple-ID: is this achieved by simply disabling iCloud sync and re-enabling it with a different email address? What about the "old" data which would remain on iCloud? Any way to do a "clean" migration here?
    Thanks and regards,
    F.

  • Spinning Wheel, force quit, then all contacts lost (twice)

Twice today I've lost all my contacts from Address book. First, the spinning wheel comes. Then, after an hour, I force quit either address book, or Mail and upon reopen, all is lost.
What's the issue? How can I stop this from happening again?
    Thanks.

She is syncing contacts direct with which supported application on the computer?
Or does she have a MobileMe account and is syncing contacts over the air?
Contacts on the iPhone are included with the iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the sync process. You can also deselect sync contacts under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences - if she is syncing contacts direct with a supported application on the computer via the iTunes sync process, and doing so will not remove or delete contacts from the iPhone when syncing.
If powering the iPhone off and on and/or an iPhone reset does not resolve it (I'm not sure what a hard reboot is), the options are as follows:
You can replace contacts on the iPhone with the supported application on the computer used for syncing contacts, which is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences below the Advanced section.
Restore the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup.
Sync contacts with the supported application on the computer.

  • Overwritten data when syncing? All contacts lost!

    Hi,
I upgraded to iphone 4s - backed up data on itunes and synced with new phone - everything there - until I initiated icloud, at which point all contacts were replaced by email addresses imported from computer. Apple eventually said the data had been overwritten by icloud and therefore lost for good!!
Is this correct? Have others experienced similar problems?
I should add that io5 was also installed at the same time...
    Many thanks

    Grum8385,
You can try to restore from backup, to see if the original data is still within the backup iTunes makes of your iPhone.
To restore from backup, right-click on the iPhone image under Devices, and choose "Restore from Backup". If you have multiple backups, you can try restoring from each one individually using the drop-down menu.

If this doesn't work, then I would try transferring the data you backed up from your original computer to this one.
    Hope this helps,

  • Caution: using isale: all contacts lost

to all isale users: after isale synchronised with addressbook all contacts were gone. ..but the thief left its signature. just a new group isale had been created. sure, i will report this issue to equinux.
wonder if anyone has experienced a similar incident??

There is a useful workaround to restore your contacts from your ipod. ..but i am afraid it is too late for this time, because if you had your ipod connected afer the loss to your regular user account with adr book sync on the ipod would have been overwritten with the older database of adr book. an issue that i have reported to apple support.
but the next time (..) your addresses are lost, try this:

they were on my .mac earlier but for some reason i sync'd it earlier and they have all been lost.
    can anybody solve this problem.
    thanks

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This may not work , but it has for some people.
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

  • IOS 6.1.2 updated- tried to Sync contacts with iCloud- All contacts gone

Help. I just updated the IOS to latest: 6.1.2 then decided to backup contacts on iCloud. When 'Merged' all contacts from phone are gone. Then I went on iCloud and the contact list there was also EMPTY. Strange enough the calendar and Notes backup were all there, but NOT contacts. I tried turning off the iCloud, etc- but can not get my contact list back--- HELP. Is this a clitch with the new IOS??

Thanks for your response, I'm a little confused though...
My iCloud account is set up in settings.  If the iCloud backup doesn't backup my contacts why is there an option to turn contacts on or off in the iCloud account?  And how are they "only synced if you had your icloud account in the mail/contact settings" if icloud doesnt backup contacts?  I don't think I understand that part of your response.

  • Switched from MobileMe to iCloud too late & lost data

I am probably one of the few idiots who thought I had iCloud all set up, so didn't bother to really look into this.  I have icloud on my iphone, but it wasn't on my MacBook Pro because I didn't upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  Anyway, in the process I have lost ALL my calendar info on both my phone and computer.  I always back-up my computer to an external hard drive.  Is there a way to recover the data and put it into the new iCloud calendar?

Read through the following - it might help.

  • Since IOS5, & iCloud, all contacts are duplicated

Since IOS5 & iCloud, all of my contacts across all devices, iPhone4, iPad2, & iMac have 2 entries for each contact. Does this have something to do with Gmail?

If you have account ssyncing to two places (like gmail + icloud) duplicates probably will display. Pick ONE master location and sync there. As an example, while I use iCloud to backup my devices and apps, I sync all my contacts, calendar, etc. to exchange. Hopefully that helps.
I have a different contact duplication question myself... but I'll start a new thread.

  • All Contacts Lost from Computer, then iCloud, now what?

As above, but I had a backup from a month ago, still lost a lot of added things but it could have been worse. I guess you have to back up iCloud / your Address Book with an archive daily.
The problem is that when I import my remaining contacts back into the Addres Book, they disappear after a few seconds and never end up on my iCloud web page at my iCloud account. Now what???
I tried deleting the iCloud account, re initiating, all sorts of things but no joy.

  • TS4036 all contacts lost after sync with icloud

I activated the icloud using my iphone 4s. Suddenly all of my 1000s of contacts were gone. I hope they would still be there on my desktop (till recent sync). There were probably no contacts in my icloud and it wiped those on my cell. This should have been merge and icloud should have updated. Now should I turn off icloud and just sync my iphone.

  • All contacts lost after turning on icloud IOS 5.1.1

Today I turn on icloud on my iphone 4 using ios 5.1.1 to sync my contacts, once it done, all my contacts disappeared from my address book.
I have done everything I can and search on the internet but no way I can get the contacts back. I already tried turning off icloud and choose Keep on my Iphone option, tried turning on icloud again but also no luck, when I log into www.icloud.com with my account, my address book is also empty.
What must I do now? Why on earth Apple allow a software to wipe all the data (in my case - my contacts) from the user's phone without providing a convenience way to backup in a user friendly manner?

  • All contacts lost for no reason on iPhone 4S. How do I get them back?

I have lost my contacts on my iPhone 4S. I was in my home using it for a game, when I went to make a call and realized all of my favorites didn't have names, only listed them by their numbers. I went into all my contacts and nothing was listed. I have my phone backed up. However I'd rather not just fix the issue but also know why this happened. Thank you in advance.

This might be because that your game update or other software automatic update killed your contacts. You should make a frequency and regular backup for your iPhone so that all the data could be renewed to your backup data. Whenever you lost iPhone data, you have a choice to restore from iTunes. That is easy and free.
However, this is not the end of the world if you don't have any backup of your iPhone contacts, you can recover contacts with iPhone data recovery software, but that need you to pay for it. So making a backup is a good habit.  Do you know how to use iPhone data recovery software to recover iPhone contacts without backup? If not, you can search in YouTube to get step-by-step guide to recover iPhone contacts from iPhone without backup. This is such an example: How to Recover iPhone Contacts - Step-by-step Guide.
