Mobileme vs icloud

I have recently gotten an iphone 4s and I would like to be able to sync it with my macbook pro. When I go into settings on the macbook, I only see mobileme. If I try to sign in to mobile me with icloud sign in, it doesn't recognize me. Can this be done?

Nope. MobileMe is dead & syncing with iCloud & your computer now requires Mountain Lion...you're running Snow Leopard. Read here:

That's not an Apple ID. That is your admin account which you can view in System Preferencs > Accounts or Users & Groups.

Just use your current Apple ID when you setup your iCloud account that you use for your devices.

Well, seems I managed to unscrew this...I deleted my iCloud mail account and reinstalled it on my phone. That got rid of the duplicate .me/.mac email accounts.

My iphone and my ipad are compatible but when I try to go to icloud on my phone it says to do it on my computer.
I would like to have my calendar, contacts, etc.. all sync like they do now. Is there a way to upgrade before June 30th? If not, will the gap be an issue or will I just be able to buy mountain lion and sync everything?

You can buy Lion in the App Store now, but move to iCloud now. If you wait to Mountain Lion, you will only have Mail in Snow Leopard, so you will lose syncing unless you use Lion or Mountain Lion. It's up to you

You need to upgrade the computer's OS. Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data before upgrading. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

Advice on migrate from MacBook 4,1 to MacBookPro 8,1 & mobileMe to iCloud

Hi all,
I just bought a MBP 8,1 to upgrade from my MacBook 4,1 (white). I'd like to know what the best way is to migrate my files & stuff. How well does the Migration Assistant work? My main concern is with Mail, Calendar, Address Book, iPhoto, iMovie, and of course, iTunes, but the major challenge is that I have mobileMe account set up on my old MB and now I will need to migrate that to iCloud. Does the Migration Assistant take care of the migration to Migration?
By the way, I have Snow Leopard on my old MB.
Any feedback will be much appreciated!

Use Setup Assistant when your new Mac first starts up. See Using Setup Assistant on Lion for details.

No, that's separate. I'd recommend waiting for a bit after running Setup Assistant, to be sure everything got transferred properly, and you've gotten a bit used to the differences in Lion (see Changes in Lion from Snow Leopard.)
Once you're comfy with that, when you go to System Preferences, you'll see a new icon for iCloud:
Both the iCloud and MobileMe windows have buttons to convert MobileMe to iCloud.

Airport Extreme no longer recognizes MobileMe after iCloud

After updating my MobileMe to iCloud this weekend I noticed my Airport Extreme was blinking orange. It returned an error that said my MobileMe password was incorrect. I have 'Back to My Mac' enabled under iCloud but apparently it's not compatible with the current Airport software.
One thing I don't know is whether Back to My Mac will work under iCloud without the Apple ID being input into the Airport; I don't have another computer running Lion/iCloud at another location so I can't test it out. Does anyone else know if it still works correctly?

If you are referring to Back to My Mac as it pertains to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), then no, this feature is not supported if you migrated your MobileMe account to iCloud.

Firstly, I note that your profile states that you are using OS X 10.5.8, in order to use iCloud on your computer you need OS X 10.7.2 or better.
Secondly, I have asked for your email address to be edited out. Post your address in an open thread is a sure way to be bombarded by unwanted email, remember it will be here long after you have resolved your problem, for automated detection software to find.
If you want people to contact you, enable others to see your email address in your profile.
Finally, are you sure that these additional addresses are aliases and not sub accounts on a family pack, aliases from MobileMe should transfer to an iCloud when you migrate.

Are your calendars in your iCloud group and not in a on my mac group.
only calendars in the iCloud group will sync.

Basically, yes.
You can migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard - when asked to confirm that you have Lion on your Mac, just lie and say 'yes'.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it. You may find the MobileMe email settings will continue to work for a time after migrating but it will stop eventually so you should not rely on this. You should delete your MobileMe email account from Mail.
You can then set up Mail manually in Snow Leopard to access iCloud email; it's a slight fudge because the 'wizard' will attempt to connect you to MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address. The process, which includes a workaround for this, is described here:

Massive Spam with MobileMe to iCloud Transition

Since the transition form MobileMe to iCloud, my Mail has been innundated with massive new spam - medication sales and Vimeo false emails are especially numerous these days. Are others experiencing this? iCloud has burst open with a massive spam storm. This deluge of junk mail is unlike anything I have ever seen. I am aftraid if there is no improvement, I may need to migrate yet again. This is intollerable. Curious what others are experiencing.

I have send several mails to [email protected] without any results.
Every day i got a SPAM mail from the same sender ... every day i forwarded that message to Apple.
On my iMac the mail go's to my spam-folder only it apears on my iPhone & iPad.
How to get this spammer out of my mailbox?

I already went through the "move your mobileme account to iCloud" procedure on my macbook several times but still cannot access the iCloud settings on my mac - each time I open iCloud I am asked to first move my mobileme account iCloud??

If I recall correctly, I logged out of my MM account on my second installation before logging into iCloud, after which I logged back into MM and it told me mail, calendars etc were disabled because of iCloud, but still allowed me access to my iDisk etc.
