Mobility and Network account Sync

I'm using Network Account and I sync my MacBooks with Mobility in Workgroup Manager.
In Terminal I see that files dotted (.ssh, .profile, .....) are not synced at all.
I try to modify "Home sync" in Mobility in Network Manager, but nothing happened.
Any suggestion?
Thanks!

SOLVED!!!
I hope this is usefull for others!
I do this:
1) Login in your user
2) Enable sync Rules in Workgroup manager -> Mobility (I use Workgroup manager installed in my client)
Manage: Once - Sync: login, logout, background, manual
In options choose Manage: Once - Sync in background: Every 20 minutes - Show status in menu bar
3) Create a temp fake file in home client to force update the modification date (I use terminal):
touch ~/.fakefile.txt
4) Logout and login in your user from client and wait that the sync finish its job
5) Go to user System Preferences -> Users and Group -> Mobile account and setup your preferences about sync as you want (you have to chek the logout for full sync)
6) Delete the fake file (I use terminal):
rm ~/.fakefile.txt
Now you can try to create a hidden dotted directory/file and try manual sync to see if it is syncing.
mkdir ~/.fakedir
and after you see the sync (remember, this is just for test) you can delete it
rmdir ~/.fakedir
Now, in my clients it was all right.
Ciao!

  • Mixing mobile account and network account.

Is it possible to have mobile account on some computers and network account on others and having the same user logging in (only one login at a time) without sync issues ?
I have tested it with account preferences set on computers and it is working nice until I have been logged in on a computer with networked account, then I experience sync issues. Every time I log in mobile account I got a dialog window asking me to select "Sync Later" , "Mobile" or "Networked". It does not matter what I select, the dialog comes back everytime I log off and on with the mobile account. I have only managed get rid of it by deleting mobile account and sync it again.

Again, thanks for taking your time explaining this for me.
After been reading the User Management documentation from apple about Managing Portable Computers (Chapter 8), I got the opposite impression about running Mobile Account on multiple computers. From this text, as I read it, it is a common thing to do, as long as we are aware of sync issues that might occur and know how we shall deal with it.
So I'm a little confused about this topics, as it seem to make sense what you are saying, but the documentation says something different.
I have tried setting sync preferences on the user instead, so that every login is made with a mobile account on every computer. That seems to work ok. Off course sync issues may arise, but here the the file sync can be fixed through the dialogs windows that pops up. Unlike under the mix of network logins and mobile account logins where it doesn't matter which location I set to be the place containing the most recent files. This only occurs after a network account login. If I have been logged on another computer set up with mobile account everything syncs nicely. I think
So for now, I think I will stick with setting up users with mobile account preferences and skip the networked account.
Does this make any sense or am I still mistaking here?
Ok, thanks for all you help.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and Network Accounts on SL

I'm holding back from upgrading our lab to 10.6 because of this major issue. Using FCS2 on 10.5 and networked accounts works fine, no issues at all. Unfortunately the second 10.6 is on the machine FCP will not load on a networked account, works fine on local accounts. (Every other FCS program works; Color, dvd studio, soundtrack)
Anyone see this issue before? Is there a fix? This really is annoying.

Why upgrade to SL? There is absolutely no benefit for doing so. The FCS apps don't take advantage of anything SL has to offer yet.
    Stick to Leopard for now.

  • Talk & Text and Facebook account sync.

1: I would like to be able to text while in a phone conversation but my phone will not send out text while in conversation.  I just bought my Ally last night..so I figure its user error but would still like to correct it.
2:  I saw a previous blog from the 30th stating that you could since your FB account just like you do your google account and use the pictures in your contacts.  I followed the steps in that message  {Menu > Settings> Accounts & Sync > Add Account > Facebook} and then it goes blank then goes back to the accounts & sync screen and FB hasnt been added...
    any suggestions for either problem??
    AS

You should be able to send a text while you're in conversation because I do it all the time from my Android device. Now if you're trying to access the web while in conversation, then you will not be able to do so. If Facebook hasn't been successfully added to your account, then follow the steps below to do so.
    1. From the Home screen, press the Menu Key , touchSettings, and touch Accounts & sync. The Accounts & sync settings screen displays your current sync settings and accounts.
    2. Touch the Add account button.
    3. Touch the account you want to add.
    4. Follow the onscreen steps to enter the required (and optional) account information.
Many accounts require only a username and password, but some accounts will require more information. These sections also describe how to add an email account that uses IMAP, POP3, or SMTP.
    5. Configure the account. Depending on the kind of account, you may be asked to
configure what kinds of data you want to sync to the phone, name of the account, and other details. When you're finished, the account will be added to the list in the Accounts & sync settings screen.
Let me know if this works for you

  • Turn off the option for users whether to sync mobile or network accounts?

Hi i have 40 users using mobile accounts, with no hassle for the last year as they were tied to the same machines. but this year they have to have the need to use which ever machine is available. The problem then is it keeps asking them whether to sync to mobile account or network account. They should only have a mobile account so i'm not really sure why its asking me? is there a way of turning off their network accounts or just forcing it to only sync mobile account? so confused... (just to clarify i don't want any of their accounts running off the server itself, i just want it to sync back to the server on login and log off which ever machine they are on. I'm just a little worried as i seem to remember someone choosing sync network account and it got rid of all their documents and files.

The problem was an error in naming the computer group. Renaming it solved the problem.

  • Messages and network account

Hi, I hope i could find a tip here.
I have a mac mini server with mountain lion and an imac with mountain lion. I have several network users created.
When i loggin on the mac mini : everything is OK. Messages and facetime are working as expected.
When i loggin on the imac (same network user) : messages seems to work but in fact the window is grey. I can't see any message. I can see when someone is typing a message (I have the 3 dots) But that's all. I never can't see the message. And if i write a message to someone, it is never send.
Facetime is working fine. Only messages has an issue.
I have tried with several network users : same issue. (Same user on the mac mini : OK)
If i loggin on the imac with a local account (not a network account) : messages is working fine.
So i really think, there's something to do with network users.
I hope i am clear enough (my english is so poor...)
Has anyone else same issue ?
    Thank you for your help.

Have you tried to check with Yahoo? Is it accessible by using your browser and accessing your account via their webpage?

  • Using Final Cut Express and Network accounts

I am having problems launching Final Cut Express when opening the program logged into a network account.
It works fine when i am logged into administrator, but when i am in another account it will not launch
    Thanks
    Dave

My general experience is that FCE either doesn't start or doesn't run properly unless you are logged in under an administrator account.
Tom Wolsky advised one time that after installation FCE had to be run once from an administrator account and afterward it would run from regular accounts. That hasn't worked in my experience.
As far as network accounts are concerned, are you using an xServe or a Mac with OSX Server installed, and workgroup manager? FCE will need to be installed on the local machine, not the server, and the network accounts won't necessarily work with FCE.

  • Migration Assistant and Network Accounts

Can I use Migration Assistant to transfer a Network Account (Active Directory) from one Mac to another? The "to" Mac will be bound to the same domain as the "from" Mac.

Thanks for the information. After thinking about it for a time, I actually I did a clean install of all my programs because I installed a SSD for my operating system and programs. Since these are expensive I did not have enough disc space to keep all my data, pictures, movies, tunes, etc. I also had some problems with the old MAC so I didn't want to import those to the new one.
DO A COMPLETE BACKUP FIRST of the new computer.
After that all I needed to do was get my data onto the new computer.
So I went to Finder on my new machine and found my startup drive's /Users folder. In that folder there is your home folder (looks like a house). I dragged it to the my seconary drive.
Then I went into System Preferences and selecting "Accounts" or "Users & Groups" whatever version OSX you have. I right-cicked on the account whose home folder I moved and selected Advance options from the pop-up.
I clicked the "Choose" button and navigated to the location I moved my "home" folder to and selected the new home folder. Clicked OK.
At this point you will have to restart the MAC. When the MAC is back up, create a document and save it. Then check the secondary drive to see if it's there.
Opened up a new Finder Window and navigated to the new "Home" folder which was just created on the new machine. Then do the following:
Opened a new Finder Windown and selected my backup drive (or where ever you have this stored on the old computer). I selected the following folders:
    Applications
    Deskstop
    Document
    Downloads
    Movies
    Music
    Pictures Public
I then dragged them to the new "Home" on the new computer using the other Finder Window.
Took some time, but it worked flawlessly and I have everything on my new computer. This is a good alterntive if you want to do a clean install of all your programs AND change where you store all your "stuff".

  • OS X Server and Network Account Server

May I install OS X Server on Mavericks when it has a network account server configured? Or is the one functionality (here network account server) excluding the other one (OS X Server)?
    Thanks,
    Yves

    Thanks for your reply.
I believe I got it to work, but,... How do you get the network account users to show up on the login window of the client computer? The login window shows the name of the client computer and the local accounts on the client computer. When I select Other in the login list I can login using a network account user id and it logs in. The network account user names do not show up on the login window

  • Not syncing ipad after recent update-windows vista mobile and yahoo go sync

I recently purchased the ipad, updated itunes to the latest version and installed a bunch of apps. Everything seems to work well except, I cannot sync contacts, calendars, notes, and bookmarks. When I attempt to sync these my computer shows an error message of "mobile sync has stopped working". Then I get an error message that "Yahoo go sync client has stopped working". I have not used MobileMe. I think that this will be a common problem with this update, and apple will need to submit a corrected version to fix this problem. There have been other posts on this problem. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I have EXACTLY the same problem. Can anybody help please?!

  • I am in a trial version, and i can't get lightroom mobile and desktop to sync

does sync only happen with paid versions and not the trial version?

Did I get it right, that sync is not working for you when you enable the little checkbox beside the collection folder (see my screenshot).
If so what kind of status is LrD giving to you?

  • Safari crashs from local and network accounts

    Hi Ya'll
Our school computers have recently been ravaged by all sorts of Safari problems. Kids open safari and it never loads the homepage, the bar just gets part way through and nothing loads. Sometimes they get the Safari unexpectedly quit message. All computers are from same image, and worked until recently. Is this from the 3.2.1 update? Even local admin accounts don't work. I have unchecked the "warn of fraudulent sites" as it seemed to be a problem. Posted below is the crash report. Hit or miss, some work but have a hard time tracking with elementary students.

  • Mail and hotmail account sync issues

    Hi,
I have recently reinstalled my mac to factory settings having cleared the HD. I then upgraded to OSMaverick for the first time and reinsatalled all my progames etc etc.
There are clearly some upgrades with Mail in Mavericks which look very nice. However, when i resync my hotmail account, it will only display the previous 350 or so emails in the inbox. (before the reinstal, Mail would display all 15000 emails from the past 5 years).
The rest of the emails appear to be in the trash folder as the following number is dispayed:15000. however when i click on the folder, there are no files actually in the folder.
How do access my old emails, and move them, into the inbox or somewhere else, so they are visable?
I know its some thing to do with the POP relationship, but its annoying that i previously didnt have this problem with Mail, and now i suddenly do, post upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

You can also log into hotmail in a browser and see if the 15000 are visible in the trash there.  If they are there create a new folder to move them into it. Then set up Mail for IMAP.
Its a bit 20th century using POP and keeping your entire archive in Inbox which is at the mercy of any POP client.  Use folders and IMAP.
When setting up Hotmail as IMAP follow Csound1's tip on page 6 of this thread regarding Option key https://discussions.apple.com/message/25745753#25745753

  • HT4898 How do I keep my mobile me email account across my iphone, ipad, and mac once I am on icloud?

How do I keep my mobile me email account synced across my iphone, ipad, and mac once I am on icloud?

Basically iCloud will do it for you.
All you have to do on your iOS devices is login to your iCloud account and enable mail synchronisation, iCloud will do the rest.
Your profile states that you are using OS X 10.5.8, which cannot run iCloud. If this is the case, you can still use iCloud mail, but will have to enter the details manually.(iCloud requires OS X 10.7.2 or better on a Mac)
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
