Mobility Service Engine back up failed

I have recently installed Cisco MSE and attached it to my Prime infrastructure 2.0 appliance but the MSE backup failed with the following error
MSE Backup failed for mse.xxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Reason: null
I can't see any reference to backup errors, has anyone else had a similar issue?

It happens due to compatibility issue between the PI and MSE. What is the MSE version? Check the compatibility from

  • Can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) configured to work with non-cisco access points?

I understand that access points can be configured to forwards all the probe requests to cisco wifi controller. cisco MSE(mobility service engine) gets the probes from wifi controller to find the location of the mobile devices.
My question, can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) be configured to work with non-cisco access points?

No and the reason why is the NMSP communication from the MSE to the WLC. Other vendors don't support this so there is no communication happening.

  • ISE ( Idendity Service Engine ) & MSE (Mobility Service Engine ) & Prime Infra

What is the difference between ISE ( Idendity Service Engine ) & MSE (Mobility Service Engine ) & Prime Infra .
How this will be used along with WLC & AP & wireless Users.

The Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) is an all-in-one enterprise policy control product that enables comprehensive secure wired, wireless, and VPN access, leading to more productive workers and lower operations costs. When operating in a network, ISE provides the following key features: 1.Rigorous identity enforcement 2. Extensive policy enforcement 3.
Security compliance 4. Automated onboarding whereas Cisco Mobility Services Engine supports RTLS and WIPS and Cisco Prime is centralize wireless and wired Monitoring and management solution. ISE and MSE both can be integrated with Cisco Prime. For more deatil over these products you can see the below links.

  • Mobility Service Enginer & WCS required or not?

    Hi,
I have Cisco Wireless Lan Controller 5508 with 35 (3600 Series Access Points.  Do i need to purchase Mobility Service Engine for this or no need?  Do i need WCS server for this or no need?
    Thanks,

The WCS/NCS/Prime and MSE are optional devices that you don't need to get your wireless up and running. So no, you don't need to purchase those devices unless you want the features those devices will provide you. These features are listed in the data sheet.

  • Need some help getting started with Mobility Services Engine

Someone has ordered several 3602 access points, a 5508 controller, and a MSE 3310 for one of our remote locations. The access points and controller are in place and are working fine (we use lightweight APs at many other locations), but I'm not sure how to approach the MSE. I've gone through the set up, and it's onsite, on the network, and I've added it to our WCS server. It's got a 2000 user context-aware services license. But I'm not sure where to go from here. It doesn't seem to actually be doing much of anything. Is there some quick start guide as to where to go from this point? The wireless users are mostly mini netbooks and iPads.

Well, I'm no expert, but I did spend the night...
Ok.  In the WCS on the Services tab, Mobility Services, your MSE is recognized and reachable with matching SW Versions.
So, on the home tab, ContextAware tab, you see your MSE and it is showing Zero's  for data in most if not all fields?
Back to the Services tab, Synchronize Services...  is this empty?
The MSE can only 'SEE' what you tell it to 'LOOK' at.  That is, buildings and floor areas.  I haven't tried just a building.
Check the left hand box for all the floor areas of interest.  Scroll to the bottom an slect 'Change MSE Assignment"
select which (of the many or the one) MSE you wish to have monitor the area.  Check the 'CAS' box and save.
Up on the upper levt is a Synchronization block..  push the Synchronize button and sit back..
All MSE data is presented only to the WCS (or Pi).
    Good Luck
    David

  • Install Licence failed on Mobility Service Engine v6

    Dear Cisco community,
I have a problem on installing the license for MSE.I use the MSE 3310 for context aware service. I have set up the MSE appliance correctly but i failed to install the device tracking license on WCS.
I use WCS PLUS license on version 6. When i add the lic file, WCS said "error while installing license".
Anybody know what the problem might be? I rechecked the UDI for MSE again, and it is correct. So i assume that it is not related to bad license.
    Please any comment are appreciated

I think, I have correctl installed the new user ((charms, Settings, Change pc-Settings, Accounts, Other Accounts, Add an account, username, Password, Password, hint - that's not so difficult (on the first glimpse) - and I'm admin on Win 8.1 Pro.
But maybe I missed a secret secret ?!
No matter, whatever - your suggestion helped me - I can live with it, even though my PC is probably not in order.

  • 3355 Mobility Service Engine failed to start

    Hi,
After I initial MSE with the wizard. MSE take so long to start the service (more than 1 hour) with "Starting MSE Platform, waiting to check the status"
Then I decide to reboot the appliance, after that MSE shows the message "

Are you not able to access the cli?  If so, try to issue the following:
/etc/init.d/network status <--- check the status
    /etc/init.d/network reload <--- if a service isn't running
/opt/mse/setup/setup.sh <--- to review or make changes to what was entered on the setup script.

  • Mobility Service Engine without Client or Tag licenses

What does the base MSE box get you when you do not have any additional feature licenses?
Do I still get rogue AP location mapping and history?

An MSE out of the box with no licenses will have a 100 tag/client 60 day evaluation license.  After the 60 day you would go back to being able to track one device at a time via the WCS.

  • Start studying on Mobility Services Engine

    Hi all,
I have assigned to characterize MSE which could be used for a future project.
After a quick research, I know that I need to setup at least a basic topology including
    1. A virtual machine of MSE : MSE-VA-7-5-102-101-LowEnd.ova
    2. A virttual machine of PI : PI-VA-1.4.0.45-small.ova
    3. A virtual machine of WLC : AIR-CTVM-7-5-102-0.ova
I also have already ordered 4 Aironet 3600 APs.
However, it requires to have service contracts linked to my CCO to be able to download those softwares.
As a newbie, I don't know how can I get those required service contracts. So could anybody guide me on this one ?
BTW, because the tight schedule of the study, could somebody send me those softwares so that I can finish my task on time.?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Toan.

    Hi Steve,
We are already Cisco partner and still cannot download the software, it requires valid linked contract services.
I aslo contact some of our local partners but not yet received any reply.
As time bugdet for me is too short, it's great if I can get the software from you guys in this forum.
    Toan.

  • Azure AAD Mobile Service Authentication with corporate accounts fails.

I have been having on-going issue with Authenticating against a Windows Azure mobile service with corporate accounts.
    Here is the complete environment.
Initially we set up with Office 365 / CRM Online / and Azure for our corporate infrastructure. We have set up single sign on. Everything works well. There is ADFS set up and running to allow us to Authenticate with {username}@{companyDomainName} and everything
    works, including single signon.
Along comes Azure Active directory. We have an Automatically created Azure active directory in the corporate azure account. The domain is the default created {accountname}.onmicrosoft.com domain structure. This is set as the Default directory.
We had a consultant come in, who was organized through Microsoft, to do some work. After everything was set and done we ended up with another active directory created in Azure that is named with the corporate domain name. This second domain has had all of
the corporate accounts synched to it.
I have now created an Azure Mobile Service. The service is a basic service, I haven't updated any of the code yet, except to publish the service. I have followed all of the configuration instructions for setting up the authentication.
If configure the Authentication to point at the first active directory, I am able to Authenticate against the service using the credentials for a user that has been created in that domain. The Authentication works correctly, and goes through.
However if I switch the configuration to use the second Active Directory, the one with the corporate accounts synched to it, the authentication fails. I am able to enter my corporate email address into the web page that is presented. Then the web control
started to call into the ADFS in order to authenticate the corporate user name and password. At this point the authentication fails with a message about the service not being available.
The login code is the standard:
    user = await App.MobileService.LoginAsync(MobileServiceAuthenticationProvider.WindowsAzureActiveDirectory);
The project is a Universal Application as the service needs to be available from both a phone and a desktop. The project was started from the starter project downloaded form the Mobile Service site.
    # Update
I've just switched the mobile service configuration back to use the AAD with the corporate accounts synchronized. The login through the application fails. However if I log in through IE by browsing to : https://{ServiceName}.azure-mobile.net/login/aad
    The authentication goes through correctly.

A few questions on the details:
What client platform are you using for login. In particular, is this a Windows Store application?
What do you mean exactly by "authentication fails?" Does an error get thrown, or does the UI just hang?
Is this being done from a domain-joined machine and/or on a machine connected to a corporate network?
We have seen an issue where some configurations of ADFS will not play nicely with Windows Store apps since the Web Authentication Broker (WAB) is based on the IE browser, and ADFS will attempt to do SSO in the special IE way instead of presenting a form,
etc. Unless the WAB is configured to handle this scenario, you will get a non-responsive UI.
Any details you can provide would be helpful.

  • Need to log into Mobility Sevices Engine

    Hi Everyone.
Sorry if anyone already addressed this issue before. I just can't find it.
The preious wireless technician left our company and didn't leave the password. Now we need to re-ip the WCS, WLC and MSE. The only problem left is with the MSE.
From the WCS, I can see the username for the MSE is admin, and the password shows asterisks.
Also from Security Index Detailed Report in the WCS, I can see the following description,
Device Security Issue: Mobility Service Engine  Mobility Services Engine user has default password configured.
Security Solution: Configure strong password for the users on the Mobility Services Engine
    I did a research and from this link (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/mse/3350/6.0/CAS/configuration/guide/msecg_ch2_CAS.html), it's saying "
The default username and password are both admin. "
However when I tried to SSH to this MSE(model# 3310), MSE asked for username and password. I put admin/admin there and got an error mesage of "password authentication failed". I am thinking there is another default password for this MSE. Anybody can help? I don't want to go through the password recovery process. Another question is that if anybody can point me a link of how to change the IP address of the MSE.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
    Robert

    Robert,
If you don't have the password, then you'll have to go through the recovery process.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/mse/3350/quick/guide/mse_qsgmain.html#wp1053115
To change the IP, you can go through the setup script once you can get in.
    /opt/bin/setup.sh
    IIRC

  • WLAN vs. mobile services

How do I know wheter my blackberry is working of WLAN or the mobile services when both is switched on?
Is there somewhere an option to select "use wlan over mobile service"? Especially when travelling international stronger use of WLAN is much more cost effective. Tried switching of the mobile data services, but that disabled not only the mobile services data services but data services at all.
    Many thanks,
    Dominik

    Hi Sadiqh,
Thanks for your response. I want PhoneGap (HTML & JAVASCRIPT) as front-end and windows Azure mobile services as backed. Does windows azure has an API (*.Js files) for Phonegap to data sync offline?
If Azure  has an API then it will be more stable in handling devices. The link which you have provided is for
    Windows Store C#
    Windows Phone
    iOS
    Xamarin.iOS
    Xamarin.Android. Not for PhoneGap.
Please let me know in this criteria.

  • How do you factory default the MSE 3350 Mobility Solution Engine

    Hi Guys
I was wondering if anyone knows how to factory default the MSE or know of a way to enable the setup wizard again.
Is there a way to check the status or change the WCS communication password manually.
    Thanks in advanced

You can use following steps to restore factory default fo MSE:
Step 1 In Cisco WCS, click Mobility > Mobility Service Engines.
Step 2 Click the name of the mobility services engine you want to configure.
Step 3 Click System (left panel).
    Step 4 Click Advanced Parameters.
Step 5 In the Advanced Commands section (right), click Clear Configuration.
Step 6Click OK to clear the mobility services engine configurations.

i have an iphone 3G 16GB 4.2.1 - i moved back to canada and got telus mobile service. they cant get phone working because cellular data network tab/button is not on my phone. How do i get it on there

OK. T-Mobile is NOT owned by AT&T... yet... The deal hasn't gone through yet. T-Mobie's US network is not compatible with the iPhone. Lots of things don't work right. There is not, and never has been an unlocked 3G sold in the US. Don't know where the phone originated, but more than likely it was in the US. If that's the case, the phone has been hacked/jailbroken to get it to work.
Have you tried doing a restore or restoring the phone as new? I have to warn you, if you do so and the phone is hacked/jailbroken, it will re-lock to AT&T and will become unusalbe.  I think your best bet right now might be to save yourself a lot of grief and just upgrade to new phone from a legitimate source.
I would never even consider buying an iPhone on ebay. 99% or more are hacked, jailbroken and/or stolen.
