Mobility Service Engine without Client or Tag licenses

What does the base MSE box get you when you do not have any additional feature licenses?
Do I still get rogue AP location mapping and history?

An MSE out of the box with no licenses will have a 100 tag/client 60 day evaluation license.  After the 60 day you would go back to being able to track one device at a time via the WCS.

  • Can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) configured to work with non-cisco access points?

I understand that access points can be configured to forwards all the probe requests to cisco wifi controller. cisco MSE(mobility service engine) gets the probes from wifi controller to find the location of the mobile devices.
My question, can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) be configured to work with non-cisco access points?

No and the reason why is the NMSP communication from the MSE to the WLC. Other vendors don't support this so there is no communication happening.

  • ISE ( Idendity Service Engine ) & MSE (Mobility Service Engine ) & Prime Infra

What is the difference between ISE ( Idendity Service Engine ) & MSE (Mobility Service Engine ) & Prime Infra .
How this will be used along with WLC & AP & wireless Users.

The Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) is an all-in-one enterprise policy control product that enables comprehensive secure wired, wireless, and VPN access, leading to more productive workers and lower operations costs. When operating in a network, ISE provides the following key features: 1.Rigorous identity enforcement 2. Extensive policy enforcement 3.
Security compliance 4. Automated onboarding whereas Cisco Mobility Services Engine supports RTLS and WIPS and Cisco Prime is centralize wireless and wired Monitoring and management solution. ISE and MSE both can be integrated with Cisco Prime. For more deatil over these products you can see the below links.

  • Mobility Service Enginer & WCS required or not?

    Hi,
I have Cisco Wireless Lan Controller 5508 with 35 (3600 Series Access Points.  Do i need to purchase Mobility Service Engine for this or no need?  Do i need WCS server for this or no need?
    Thanks,

The WCS/NCS/Prime and MSE are optional devices that you don't need to get your wireless up and running. So no, you don't need to purchase those devices unless you want the features those devices will provide you. These features are listed in the data sheet.

  • Need some help getting started with Mobility Services Engine

Someone has ordered several 3602 access points, a 5508 controller, and a MSE 3310 for one of our remote locations. The access points and controller are in place and are working fine (we use lightweight APs at many other locations), but I'm not sure how to approach the MSE. I've gone through the set up, and it's onsite, on the network, and I've added it to our WCS server. It's got a 2000 user context-aware services license. But I'm not sure where to go from here. It doesn't seem to actually be doing much of anything. Is there some quick start guide as to where to go from this point? The wireless users are mostly mini netbooks and iPads.

Well, I'm no expert, but I did spend the night...
Ok.  In the WCS on the Services tab, Mobility Services, your MSE is recognized and reachable with matching SW Versions.
So, on the home tab, ContextAware tab, you see your MSE and it is showing Zero's  for data in most if not all fields?
Back to the Services tab, Synchronize Services...  is this empty?
The MSE can only 'SEE' what you tell it to 'LOOK' at.  That is, buildings and floor areas.  I haven't tried just a building.
Check the left hand box for all the floor areas of interest.  Scroll to the bottom an slect 'Change MSE Assignment"
select which (of the many or the one) MSE you wish to have monitor the area.  Check the 'CAS' box and save.
Up on the upper levt is a Synchronization block..  push the Synchronize button and sit back..
All MSE data is presented only to the WCS (or Pi).
    Good Luck
    David

  • Install Licence failed on Mobility Service Engine v6

    Dear Cisco community,
I have a problem on installing the license for MSE.I use the MSE 3310 for context aware service. I have set up the MSE appliance correctly but i failed to install the device tracking license on WCS.
I use WCS PLUS license on version 6. When i add the lic file, WCS said "error while installing license".
Anybody know what the problem might be? I rechecked the UDI for MSE again, and it is correct. So i assume that it is not related to bad license.
    Please any comment are appreciated

  • Start studying on Mobility Services Engine

    Hi all,
I have assigned to characterize MSE which could be used for a future project.
After a quick research, I know that I need to setup at least a basic topology including
    1. A virtual machine of MSE : MSE-VA-7-5-102-101-LowEnd.ova
    2. A virttual machine of PI : PI-VA-1.4.0.45-small.ova
    3. A virtual machine of WLC : AIR-CTVM-7-5-102-0.ova
I also have already ordered 4 Aironet 3600 APs.
However, it requires to have service contracts linked to my CCO to be able to download those softwares.
As a newbie, I don't know how can I get those required service contracts. So could anybody guide me on this one ?
BTW, because the tight schedule of the study, could somebody send me those softwares so that I can finish my task on time.?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Toan.

    Hi Steve,
We are already Cisco partner and still cannot download the software, it requires valid linked contract services.
I aslo contact some of our local partners but not yet received any reply.
As time bugdet for me is too short, it's great if I can get the software from you guys in this forum.

  • Mobility Service Engine back up failed

I have recently installed Cisco MSE and attached it to my Prime infrastructure 2.0 appliance but the MSE backup failed with the following error
MSE Backup failed for mse.xxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Reason: null
I can't see any reference to backup errors, has anyone else had a similar issue?

It happens due to compatibility issue between the PI and MSE. What is the MSE version? Check the compatibility from

  • Need to log into Mobility Sevices Engine

    Hi Everyone.
Sorry if anyone already addressed this issue before. I just can't find it.
The preious wireless technician left our company and didn't leave the password. Now we need to re-ip the WCS, WLC and MSE. The only problem left is with the MSE.
From the WCS, I can see the username for the MSE is admin, and the password shows asterisks.
Also from Security Index Detailed Report in the WCS, I can see the following description,
Device Security Issue: Mobility Service Engine  Mobility Services Engine user has default password configured.
Security Solution: Configure strong password for the users on the Mobility Services Engine
    I did a research and from this link (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/mse/3350/6.0/CAS/configuration/guide/msecg_ch2_CAS.html), it's saying "
The default username and password are both admin. "
However when I tried to SSH to this MSE(model# 3310), MSE asked for username and password. I put admin/admin there and got an error mesage of "password authentication failed". I am thinking there is another default password for this MSE. Anybody can help? I don't want to go through the password recovery process. Another question is that if anybody can point me a link of how to change the IP address of the MSE.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
    Robert

    Robert,
If you don't have the password, then you'll have to go through the recovery process.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/mse/3350/quick/guide/mse_qsgmain.html#wp1053115
To change the IP, you can go through the setup script once you can get in.
    /opt/bin/setup.sh
    IIRC

  • Complex Data in Mobile Services?

I'm trying to learn Azure Mobile Services, and feel like I must be missing something. I've gone through the tutorials, and they all seem a little too trivial to be helpful.
I have a data model that, by traditional standards, isn't all that complicated, but seems to be for Mobile Services.  It's a reasonably straight-forward relational data model.  Whereas this is something that I would normally have designed in Entity
Framework, I'm trying to follow the "Mobile Services methodology".  I was able to create the data model in code reasonably easily, with all the classes inheriting from Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Mobile.Service.EntityData.  It seems a bit
of a step backward not to have something like the Entity Framework data model designer, but I got through it.  The database appears to get created correctly in Azure.  So far so good.
Now I want to consume the mobile service in a client.  This is where my frustration starts.  Whereas in the past there were RIA Services or a WSDL to provide the data model of the service (i.e. essentially code-gen the proxy), it appears that I
have to code everything on the client by hand again!  Is that true?!  From what I can tell, I can't even share the code between the server and the client.  Am I missing something?
Then, after I write a LOT of essentially duplicate code, I give it a try and find out that there is simply no support for navigation properties (i.e. foreign keys, etc.).  I have to code all of that myself, likely using an automapper.  Once again
I say:  am I missing something?
Please tell me there's a better way, because right now this all feels like numerous steps backward!
    Thanks!
    Brad.

You are right that there is less functionality as compared to RIA Services: this is by design. The Mobile Services tables endpoint and the client SDK are designed to be as simple as possible. This keeps your mobile client logic simple, and makes it easier
to build a cross-platform app. For instance, if you were building a native iOS and Android client, there's no way to get around the code duplication.
However, connecting to the tables endpoint is very easy using the SDK, and then you just use LINQ to run queries on your service. You can also use offline data sync to cache the data locally, and even update it while you are offline and sync changes later.
(This is another case where the simple data model is a big advantage.) Plus, there's no codegen to bloat your client app. The only thing you need to manage is the table name, but this is an API that doesn't tend to change often (usually only additions).
For a more complex example of Mobile Services, see our Field Engineer solution accelerator, which is a full-fledged app:
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Field-Engineer-501df99d
You're right that you can't share code for your model classes between client and server, other than copy and paste. :)  There's another good reason for this: the backend adds several system columns that are needed for things such as offline sync
and conflict handling. So, you have to inherit from EntityData (or IEntityData), whereas the client has no such requirement. This can actually give you a lot of flexibility. however. For instance, maybe you only want 5 database columns, and there are 20 in
your model. You can create different models on the client and backend to handle this.
We don't support foreign keys, which definitely makes things harder. Unfortunately, supporting relationships would mean the full complexity of RIA Services on all 5 of our client platforms, which just wasn't feasible.
As you noted, you can use Automapper, or, if your relationships are mostly 1-to-many, you can use database views and modify those directly. They can also be synced. If this works for your data model, it can also really simplify your client code, since you
only need very simple queries on the client. For an example of this, please see my posts in this forum thread:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/4c056373-d5cf-4ca6-9f00-f152d2b01372/best-practice-for-syncing-related-tables-in-offline-mode?forum=azuremobile
I totally agree with you that not having support for relationships makes the developer's life much harder, particularly if the model is not a good fit with automapper. But on the other hand, you get offline data sync for free, which would otherwise be a
    lot of work to implement.
In order to determine if Mobile Services is the right fit for your project, you should look at all the features in the client SDK and estimate how much work it would be to do it all yourself. If you don't need most of the features, it's possible that you
can just use Web API and all the features of Entity Framework. However, if you need things like offline data sync, login, or push notifications, the SDK can be a time saver.

  • How do you factory default the MSE 3350 Mobility Solution Engine

    Hi Guys
I was wondering if anyone knows how to factory default the MSE or know of a way to enable the setup wizard again.
Is there a way to check the status or change the WCS communication password manually.
    Thanks in advanced

You can use following steps to restore factory default fo MSE:
Step 1 In Cisco WCS, click Mobility > Mobility Service Engines.
Step 2 Click the name of the mobility services engine you want to configure.
Step 3 Click System (left panel).
    Step 4 Click Advanced Parameters.
Step 5 In the Advanced Commands section (right), click Clear Configuration.
Step 6Click OK to clear the mobility services engine configurations.
