MOD and MOI files on Panasonic camcorder

Hi there,
Im borrowing a SDR-H86 camcorder. I have taken some footage and want to copy the files to my iMac.
From the advice in the cam's manual, I have navigated to the DCIM folder. There is one folder there: 107CDPFQ which should contain the movies (if I'm right) but there is only one jpeg there. No movies.
In SD_VIDEO/PRG001 are lots of MOV00A.MOD and MOI files, but when I open them in 'MPEG Stramclip' the video has no sound...
I was hoping to find some MPEG-4s or something....
Help please. Thanks.
Sam

Unfortunately, You will have to get a video format converter. My favorite is the PAVtube video converter (www.pavtube.com), but it costs $35. Its really easy and efficient, just not free. I had the same problem with my JVC camcorder. With the Pavtube converter, you can convert a batch of videos in a short and efficient amount of time. It can convert any file format into any file format. Hope that helps!

  • .MOD and .MOI files

My version of QT (7) can't play .MOD and .MOI files from a digital video camera (JVC). If I upgrade to Quicktime Pro will this enable me to play these files on my eMac (OS 10.3.9)?
    PM6500/300 (603e)   Mac OS 9.1.x   eMAc 10.3.9

The MOD files are MPEG-2 files. Feel free to rename the files filename.mpg or filename.mpeg since that is what they are.
The MOI files are not video files (if you look they are miniscule files vs. the MOD files) - they are files to tell the camera what is where and what is what. Ignore them.
You can, with the $20 Apple MPEG-2 component, open and edit and export to QT version in MPEG STreamclip quite well. Worth the $20.
If editing is not a huge deal you can use the MPEG-2 files (the MOD files remember) directly in Toast 7 - set the Toast preferences to never reencode, since it is a time waster to reencode already compliant MPEG-2 clips and you can make DVD's till the cows come home.
The best combo is MPEG Streamclip with the $20 component to open and trim your MOD (MPEG) files (since with the huge recording time on the JVC you will have a lot of boring video that needs trimming), then save as MPEG, use the saved clips in Toast - voila, DVD's.
If you want to use the clips in iMovie, export to DV from MPEG Streamclip and those clips go into iMovie just fine.
You should understand the quality limitations of MPEG-2 as a recording codec, and really should use a DV (tape) video camera to record decent video for editing in iMovie or Final Cut.

  • Importing .MOD and .MOI files to iMovie - from JVC EverioS GZ-MS100

I'm desperate in finding a solution on the problems I have with importing .MOI and .MOD files to iMovie from a JVC EverioS GZ-MS100.
I have looked up all advices I can, also on this forum... But nothing seems to work for me at all!
PLEASE someone tell me asap how I can get my videos to iMovie so I can start editing my videos...
Thank you so much in advance!!
    I have iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 (821).

The Zi6 is not on the compatibilty list however I based my knowledge on this review at macworld.com
    http://www.macworld.com/article/135948/2008/10/kodakzi6.html
"To copy your captured content to the Mac, flip out the USB connector, switch on the camera, and jack it into a free USB 2.0 port. If you have the latest version of iPhoto, it launches and offers to import the separate video and image files. If you don’t have the most recent version of iPhoto, you’re welcome to import files into iMovie ‘08 with the File: Import Movie command, or into iMovie HD via the File: Import command. Each command produces an Import navigation window, where you can locate the movies on the attached camera (within the DCIM folder).
The Zi6’s movies are encoded in the H.264 format; as a result, there’s no need to install another codec to use them as you would for movies recorded with the Flip cameras, because H.264 is natively supported by QuickTime (and therefore iMovie and Final Cut Pro). Audio is recorded in the AAC format at 48 Kbps."
So this suggests iMovie 08 will accept the file format the Zi6 porduces. I will attempt file conversion before I loose iMovie 06 though.

  • I can't import movies from my JVC GZ-MS230BU (Everio) to iMovie or iPhoto. The type of file doesn't seem to import to MAC, mod and moi files, in a way that iMovie can do anything. Any ideas?

I looked up answers about other JVC import issues, but didn't find anything relevant. Thanks for any suggestions and help!

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert the MOD files to QuickTime.

  • MOD and AVCHD files

I have a JVC camcorder that takes MOD movies files and a Lumix camera that takes AVCHD files.
But when I connect the Lumix the AVCHD files do not display for download. Can anyone help with what's happening here?
Also, will need some software to watch the MOD and AVCHD files when they do get downlaoded. What can anyone recommend? - would prefer to get one software package that will work on both types of files.
    thanks

    for the Lumix, use iMovie
for .mod, use iMovie too, read Chris' advice here, no additional tools needed:

most Apple apps use their own internal workflow, which is triggered only, when you import straight from cam. so, 'Image Capture' isn't choice #1 to import video.

  • How do I use MPL file from Panasonic camcorder in iMove?

My file type from my Panasonic HDC-SD9 doesn't show up when I open iMOVE. Doesn't iMOVE support MPL files from Panasonic?

I'm guessing your files were MTS or something else, as I've never heard of an MPL file. You should ask your question over in the iMovie forum as this one deals specifically with Final Cut Express.
Edit: As I recall we were discussing using your camcorder in FCE over here:

  • Transfer files from panasonic camcorder (HDC-HS300)

    Hi there -
I am using the new Panasonic HDC-HS300 Camcorder that records in the AVCHD format. All working fine. I loaded up my Final cut express software, all fine - but I can't seem to get the vide that I recorded into the software. I haveconnected the USB from camcorder to Mac etc but nothing is being transferred. It seems that all I am getting from the Camcorder is 'Thumb.TDT' & 'Thumb.TID' files, which when I drag into FCE 4 it says unsupported or not a known file....Maybe the actual video files or somewhere else?. It seems to be a bit of a task to get this up and running or probably just my own lack of experience. I remember using a simple digital camera with video facilities and as soon as I plugged it in to the mac, the files were opened right away in imovie. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, tips or help.

I'm wondering if you were able to resolve this problem? I'm very interested in that same camcorder, and you are the first person i've heard of trying to use it with FCE4. How do you like the HS300?
    thanks

  • CANNOT LOG AND TRANSFER FILES FROM PANASONIC P2 CARD

I rented a Panasonic Ag-hpx170 to shoot footage for my son's high school today. After filling two p2 cards with video, I transferred the content to my hard drive (exactly as described in Tom Wolsky's book, and as coached by the video rental company). I have two folders on my drive from the two p2 files, but when I try to bring them into FInal Cut Express (4.0.1) , I get the message:
"HUNTER INTERVIEWS CARD 1" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
There's a whole day of footage in there, and I'm panicked that I've lost it (and that the next two days' shooting will be ruined, as well).
The footage was shot in 720x25. I set the "easy settings" on FCE to the Apple Intermediate codec format, using HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 720p25.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm starting to really worry I'm going to disappoint a lot of kids!

Well, this may not be the same for you, but I think I had a similar problem with my Canon FS200. It was a hassle, but I was able to get the footage. I bought an Apple Product, it was called something along the lines of Quicktime Converter Mpeg-2, it's an upgrade for final cut and it works automatically. But in addition to that, I downloaded a free software from the internet called Mpeg Streamclip. You then open the file with that software, and hit "Export to quicktime". That SHOULD work for you, it did for me.

  • SharePoint 2010 and PowerPoint 2010: Open PPTX File in Edit Mode and Open PPSX in in Slide Show Mode

I have the following issue while opening PowerPoint PPTX file and PPSX from the Document ID link provided by SharePoint 2010.
    Issue
Initially when I opened PPTX file from the DOC ID link from SharePoint 2010, it is opening up in Slide Show mode which is not how we want it to be.
For PPSX, it is opening in Slide Show mode which is what we wanted.
Thus, I did some research online and found this article at support.microsoft.com/kb/q299824  which requires some modification to the Registry of the client machine.
I did the change as follows
    Open Registry
    Look for “Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12”
    Set BrowserFlags value to a
After the change, PPTX is opening in Edit Mode in PowerPoint which is correct but PPSX is also opening in Edit Mode in PowerPoint which is not correct
This issue only occurs if I open the document from the Doc ID link in SharePoint. If the documents are downloaded, it will not have this issue.
    Questions
Can I set PPTX to open in Edit Mode and PPSX to open in Browser Mode?
Is this fixed as in if I change the registry setting it will affect both file types?
Is there other ways I can achieve opening PPTX in Edit and PPSX in Browser Mode?
    [Environment]
My Client machine is running on I.E 9 and Office 2010.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
To make the PPTX file open in Edit mode and PPSX file open in Slide Show mode, I recommend to edit the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12 to 8.
I tested the scenario in my environment with changing the key value to 8, after that PPTX file opened in Edit mode and PPSX file opened in Slide Show mode.
    Best regards.

  • Importing .MOD files without having the .MOI files

    Hi
I have a Panasonic sdr-s100 which records MPEG2 video in the .MOD/.MOI format onto sd cards.
Apart from the current 40+ restriction issue (see other posts), iMovie 08 imports new footage perfectly fine from my sd-card through my card reader.
The real problem I am having is with the older footage I recorded over the last year and a half. You see, I deleted all the .MOI files which were - until iMovie 08 got released - commonly regarded as useless once you had the movie/.MOD files on your hard drive. It was assumed these were only needed by the camcorder. How wrong we all were!!
So now I am having these neatly organized folders on my hard drive (100GB>) containing just the .MOD files, which iMovie refuses to recognize under File>Import. Copying the .MOD files back to an sd-card seemed like another option but iMovie 08 needs the accompanying .MOI files for the "Camera detected" message to pop up.
There is another thread (on which I have also posted), where we are trying to find some way to regenerate those .MOI files or use other similar methods, but none are really successful as yet. We also contacted JVC and Panasonic but it is not looking good so far. See here: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=77489
Ideally, iMovie 08 would import my .MOD files straight from my hard drive without the need for .MOI files and simply use the .MOD's date modified info as the time stamp within iMovie 08. I do not wish to go via the DV route and re-import etc as it is way too time-consuming.
Has anyone got any other tips or similar problems? In the meantime I have sent this issue to Apple Feedback.

MP_Root (at the root level of the card directory structure) and putting a folder 101PNV01 inside the MP_Root folder. I then put some mpg-2 file in the 101PNV01 folder, started iMovie '08, inserted the flash card and had the files recognized so I could import them.
    Great. This works!
Here is what I did (and this should work for anyone who has old .MOD files but no longer has the accompanying .MOI files):
    Like F Shippey stated
    1) Create a root folder on your sd card (in my case, via a USB card reader) or USB stick (not tested) called Mp_Root.
    2) Inside this folder create another folder called 101PNV01.
    3) Rename the extensions of all your .MOD files to .MPG and copy them inside the 101PNV01 folder.
    4) Restart iMovie08. It will now detect a new camera and import all clips using the date created/modified info as timestamps for perfect cataloging!
iMovie 08 does NOT re-encode the movie files, which is great cos it's very quick plus you retain 100% the original quality. It simply puts them in a .MOV container and creates a separate movie file for the thumbnails.
Thanks for your help F Shippey!

  • Zen Vision M:60 with USB host and Panasonic Camcorder SDR-

I own a Panasonic Camcorder SDR-S0 which stores its data on a SD card. I'm thinking about buying the Zen Vision M:60 to use it as a sort of "imagetank" for importing the videos when on vacation. Normally the data on the SD card are transferred by connecting the camera to the PC & transferring them with the Panasonic software MotionSD studio .2E. Another possibility is using Pictbridge. The resulting format of the recorded data is mpeg2.When on vacation I don't have my PC with me & I would like to transfer the data on the Vision M:60. I read that for importing photos this should not give any problems, but no trace of user experience of importing video, without passing thru a PC. I did following test to check which sort of data are on the SD card before transmission to the PC, by reading the SD card with a USB cardreader?: it contained data with .MODextenstion (which is apparently a MPEG-2 codec), .MOI?extension files (which I think is not?needed) & a .PGI file?(which I think is needed?for?graphics printers ?). I copied one?MOV00B.MOD file to my PC and tried to play it. I succeeded without any problem to play it on Windows Media Player. My question : does anyone has any experience with the transfer of this sort of data to the Zen Vision M:60 using the USB host connected either to the digital camcorder or to a cardreader and then importing the .MOD files. If so, could the data be played back on the Vision M:60 ?Thanks for your help ?[color="#ff0000"]As I want to buy the Zen Vision M:60 (bargain price :smileytongue I hope someone with experience on this matter will respond urgently as I leave on holiday next week !!! According to the list of tested products here:?http://www.creative.com/products/pro...24&product=433?it's been tested on both Nikon Coolpix P3?and Nikon D200. So?I'd make the assumption that it probably does. It works with my Fuji S5600, and the list above shows they?only tested ?E900 and A600.

The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.

  • Firefox freezes trying to download or save files, Import/Export bookmarks, clicking (Tools) Options (was: Fire Fox crashes in Windows safe mode and in Firefox Safe mode)

    Hi
    XP sp3 4gb ram
    Firefox 6.0.2
Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
    • Clicking a download link on a webpage
    • Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
    • Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
    • Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
    • Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
    • Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
    • Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
    • Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
    • Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
    • Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
    • I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
    What does work?
    • Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
    • Firefox works fine on my other computer.
    • Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
    • My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
    • malwarebytes
    • superantispyware
    • ccleaner
    • combofix.
    • smart defrag
    • then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)

    Hi.
This is about a question you posted to the Firefox Support forum three months ago (I'm sorry you never got an answer).
Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?
I found this thread searching for a solution for someone on MozillaZine's support forum who's having a similar issue. See this thread: (maybe something he's tried that didn't work for him will work for you?)

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
