Mod_auth_apple overrides htaccess?

I am migrating from Linux to Mac OS X Server and have run into a problem.
I have successfully set up a htpasswd file with authorized users (quite a lot of users that have accumulated over the years) and have the .htaccess file pointing to it as setup on previous systems. It works fine for most clients connecting. But a few clients are getting:
*{"The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized."}*
At a closer look at the error_log I see the following for all connections (even successful requests):
*modauthapple: User my_user: authentication failure for "/webapp/index.php": User not found by checkpw*
So the problem seems to be that modauthapple seems to shut out some users I have granted access though my .htaccess setup.
My question is: How can I override or turn off the modauthapple authentication so that they don't talk against each other?
Note: I made an attempt to disable the modauthapple module and instead enable the modauthbasic module, but I get:
*HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error*
Is there another module I should activate instead?
My .htaccess file looks like this:
*AuthType Basic*
*AuthName MyWebApp*
*AuthUserFile /Library/WebServer/WebApp/authorized_users*
*require valid-user*
Thank you.

I made an attempt to disable the modauthapple module and instead enable the modauthbasic module, but I get:
*HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error*
Is there another module I should activate instead?
My .htaccess file looks like this:
*AuthType Basic*
*AuthName MyWebApp*
*AuthUserFile /Library/WebServer/WebApp/authorized_users*
*require valid-user*

  • Error 500 with .htaccess and +FollowSymlinks

    Hi, I'm doing a website for a community of gamers and I have one .htaccess on the root folder of the website that cointains parameters to allow using friendly urls. The content of the .htacces is this:
    RewriteEngine On
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteBase /~doodom/doomhispano/
    Rewriterule ^administracion/$ ?administracion
    Rewriterule ^articulos.html$ ?articulos
    Rewriterule ^descargas.html$ ?descargas
    Rewriterule ^foro/$ ?foro
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/(.*)/(.*)/(.*).html$ ?foro&cat=$1&sub=$2&thr=$3&title=$4
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/(.*)/$ ?foro&cat=$1&sub=$2
    Rewriterule ^foro/(.*)/$ ?foro&cat=$1
    Rewriterule ^juegos.html$ ?juegos
    Rewriterule ^logout.html$ logout.php
    Rewriterule ^noticias/$ ./ [R]
    Rewriterule ^noticias/(.*)/(.*).html$ ?noticias&id=$1&title=$2
    Rewriterule ^noticias/archivo(.*).html$ ?offset=$1
    Rewriterule ^perfil/$ ./ [R]
    Rewriterule ^perfil/(.*).html$ ?perfil=$1
    Rewriterule ^preferencias.html$ ?preferencias
    Rewriterule ^registro.html$ ?registro
    The problem is that Apache delivers an Error 500 and I don't know why. It always happen when I have uncommented this line:
    Options +FollowSymLinks
    If I comment it the website loads correctly, but the friendly urls don't work at all.
    I also paste the content of my /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

    Uhm... what's an /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf?
    If I had that error, I'd look into /etc/apache/sites* and see if for the site changing follow-symlinks and everything is allowed.
    Then again, that's not an arch server, so you might be better of ignoring me (if your... stuff... is all that different. Me did my server strange chaos admin method like )
    Edit: wah, now I've been confusing myself, that huge config file is a mess in my eyes - are you sure you're supposed to change stuff in there? What folder is your htaccess in? Most I saw look about like that in there...:
    <Directory "??????">
        Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
        AllowOverride none
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Which isn't a thaaat good for using .htaccess.

  • Password protecting a web folder with .htaccess

    I'm trying to set up .htaccess for a folder on my website. I've created the .htpasswd file (on the volume root folder) and the .htacess file in the folder I'm trying to protect. I've turned on Allow All Overrides in Server Admin Web>Options. But so far I'm not getting a dialog box asking for a password.
    The contents of the .htpasswd are:
    kcpcu:$........
    The contents of the .htaccess file are:
    AuthUserFile /.htaccess
    AuthType Basic
    AuthName "KCPCU"
    Require valid-user
    I'm at a loss on what to do to get this working. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Make a backup copy of your 'httpd.conf' file. Then find the line that says:
        AllowOverride None
    And change it to:
        AllowOverride AuthConfig
    If you are using virtual domains you will have to edit the virtualhosts '.conf' file and add these lines:
        <Directory /docroot/www.yourdomain.tld/html>
            Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
            AllowOverride AuthConfig
        </Directory>
    check the owner and permissions on the .htaccess file. Set the permissions on the .htaccess file:
    chmod 644 /path/to/.htaccess
    and
    chown www:www /path/to/.htaccess
    There's no need to place the password file in a directory of the top level of the volume. It can exist in /etc/httpd or one directory up from the webserver document root directory. Just make sure the permissions are set to '644'.

  • Htaccess, cannot get to work on mac os x lion server

    I've enabled mod_rewrite.so in httpd.conf
    I've updated the apache2/httpd.conf to...
    Code:
    DocumentRoot "/Library/WebServer/Documents"
    <Directory />
       Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks
       AllowOverride All
       Order deny, allow
       Deny from all  </Directory>
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents">
       Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
       AllowOverride All
       Order allow, deny
       Allow from all  </Directory>
    I've changed apache2 / users / [username].conf
    ( I also tried using  /Users/[username]/Sites/  instead of the Documents root path.)
    Code:
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/Documents">
       Options Indexes MultiViews FollowSymLinks
       AllowOverride All
       Order allow, deny
       Allow from all
    </Directory>
    I've added then removed  AccessFilename .htaccess to the httpd.conf file to test.
    I've ticked the "Allow overrides using .htaccess files" In the Server advanced configuration for the website.
    Restarted Apache following all changes.
    phpinfo shows mod_rewrite
    htaccess file
    (I am just trying a very simple change in the .htaccess to test. I've also tried garbage to pull an error. No avail.  )
    Code:
    DirectoryIndex test.html
    I've been messing around with this for 2 days now and cannot find an answer.
    I really need this to work
    Any advise is appriciated.

    I cross posted this and now it won't let me delete this post. So I will just say that this is resolved. I had to right click on the .htaccess file and remove the .txt from the get info box. It then started working. The .txt wasn't appended to the .htaccess from the file browser as it was hidden. Caused me some grief.

  • .htaccess not working.

    All,
    I am working with a 3rd party to have some scripts installed that use the .htaccess function. (10.4.11)
    T?he developer has asked me to enable (or check and see if it is enabled) .htaccess.
    These scripts worked fine when we installed them previously on a few of our other boxes. (10.3.9 xServe)...and I don't recall having to manually enable .htaccess or a module there.
    Any thoughts? The .htaccess function is clearly not working on this box and I don't know where the "switch" is.
    Take pity on me and point me the right direction please?
    Thanks,
    -C

    Hey Chris,
    I have also been trying to get .htaccess working using the link above. It is still not working for me.
    I have mod rewrite loaded
    I checked both /etc/httpd/httpd.conf and /private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf
    Each are identical
    There is a line
    AccessFileName .htaccess
    So I am assuming that is on. My only other issue is finding the correct Override statement.
    In osx 10.5.1 Server there are 3 entries that contain AllowOverride one is for Alias /icons/
    the 2nd is for
    <Directory /Library/WebServer/CGI-Exuctables>
    the 3rd is for
    <Directory />
    My questions are.. which httpd.conf do I edit? What changes do I make to it?
    Do I need to make a new <Directory> entry for the location of my "website"?
    My website is located in /Library/WebServer/domainname
    My server settings for that site is configured as follows
    1) folder listing (enabled)
    2) Web DAV (disabled)
    3) CGI Execution (disabled)
    4) WebMAil (disabled)
    5) SSI (enabled)
    6) Allow All Overides (enabled)
    7) Spotlight Searching (disabled)

  • Mod_rewrite not working for virtual host nor .htaccess

    I've been tearing my hair out trying to implement mod_rewrite on my Leopard Server. I have finally been able to get mod_rewrite to log what it does, but that has only shown that it DOES periodically respond to a /server_status request from the server itself, but any request to the virtual host (which is otherwise working) does not result in mod_rewrite being 'triggered.' I've tried all the usual suspects, in just about every permutation and combination:
    1) .htaccess in all its guises and Override All;
    2) RewriteEngine On;
    3) http.conf, the virtual xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf;
    4) Options All -Includes -ExecCGI +MultiViews -Indexes +FollowSymlinks;
    5) other less credible ideas gleaned from the Apple discussions and the web.
    If I had to summarise the effect, it's that
    a) mod_rewrite is on (as shown by the regular /server_status entries in the rewrite.log);
    b) xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf is read when the virtual host is turned on (because the site is active and can be turned off, at will);
    c) any mod_rewrite and Options entries in the vistual host xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf seem to be being studiously ignored, even though the .conf file is being read and used.
    This part of http.conf is what seems to turn on the logging:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
         RewriteEngine On
         RewriteLog /private/var/log/apache2/rewrite.log
         RewriteLogLevel 9
    </IfModule>
    Here's the section of xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf:
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/com.VirtualHostName">
         AllowOverride All
         <IfModule mod_dav.c>
              DAV Off
         </IfModule>
         Options All -Includes -ExecCGI +MultiViews -Indexes +FollowSymlinks
    </Directory>
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
         RewriteEngine On
         RewriteLog /private/var/log/apache2/rewrite.log
         RewriteLogLevel 9
         RewriteRule ^/Tom.html$ /Mary.html [R]
         RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^TRACE
         RewriteRule .* - [F]
    </IfModule>
    This is a variant of the .htaccess file:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^/Tom.html$ /MARY.html [R]
    It makes no difference whether the RewriteBase is present in the .htaccess or the xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf, or both.
    No amount of pass-though [PT] or redirect [R] has any effect, either.
    I do have Lasso 8.5 installed, but the developer says that Lasso should have no effect on the proper functioning of mod_rewrite.
    mod_rewrite is working (i.e. it's on, as shown by the /server_status entries in the log and that the log is being updated), but it is also not working (in that no matter what I put into xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf and/or .htaccess, there is no entry in the rewrite.log nor in the system logs).
    Hence, I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be very, very welcome.

    Never mind. I discovered that Server had created several versions of the virtual host .conf file in the sites folder (I've no idea why, when, or how it would do that). They all had different numbers and so were well hidden within the dozens of other .conf files. Once I a) found the right .conf file for the virtual host, and b) deleted the rest from the sites folder, my mod_rewrite code worked fine.
    Hence, if you find that mod_rewrite is working, but not for a particular virtual host, make darn sure that there are no errant .conf files for the domain and, if there are, that you're editing the correct one.

  • Path_info, override and acceptPathInfo setting

    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#acceptpathinfo
    per the above documentation, where is that variable stored on a 10.5.2 Server? there are two directories with httpd.conf
    /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
    /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
    how is editing the override line within these two files different than checking the box for "Allow All Overrides" within the gui?
    thanks!

    First, /etc/httpd/httpd.conf is the configuration file for Apache 1.3 which does not support this option.
    /etc/apache2/httpd.conf is the configuration file for Apache 2.x, so that's where you want to make any changes.
    As for the option itself, the page you linked to indicates that AcceptPathInfo requires FileInfo override. Setting 'Allow All Overrides' will include FileInfo, therefore you are able to set it via a .htaccess.
    Note that the override itself is not the important thing - that just tells Apache what a .htaccess file can change. Even if that's set all that will happen is AcceptPathInfo default unless you manually add an On or Off parameter.

  • Lion Server: Wiki Disables Allow Override

    Greetings All,
    I setup my Lion Server (10.7.2) and set the web site to allow overrides, which works great. However, when I enable the Wiki service, it "disables" the htaccess directives and those directories for which I need indexing no longer appear. Instead, the wiki portal page appears. Any thoughts on what conf file I need to change to prevent the wiki service from ignoring the htaccess directives?

    Found the answer myself. Removed the "/wiki/" parameter from the "DirectoryIndex" in the 0000_any_80_.conf file and the htaccess directives are working fine now.

  • How To Make mozilla.cfg, override.ini, all-companyname.js, Files To Work Once And For All For All Users

    I'm currently trying to apply a fix to the firefox browser (version 23.0.1) on over 250 computers. Setting default webpages, disabling annoying prompts like the default browser and importing bookmarks, and erasing the history on shutdown, or startup. This is very easily done modifying the pref.js file, but I will not edit that file, it's out of the question. Another FF update will erase or overwrite all of my modifications.
    I run a computer lab in the university that is locked down using a Net Support School console. You don't need to look that up. Basically all websites are restricted except the ones the ones I whitelist. The websites we use have extensive API's for JS, CSS, Java, PHP, etc... We utilize technology in order for students to use graphing calculators, video's, and taking module test from these white-listed websites, like Pearson, or Aleks. Now with that said, cookies, and stored profile history become a problem, and on some day's up to 25% of the students using the computers need their entire history deleted in order for a page to load. I think I fixed this problem permanently by whitelisting backend sites importing plugins, and API's etc, that I found from the developers console. Whatever. What I've learned from all of this is that Firefox can be very customizable utilizing the "...\Mozilla Firefox\mozilla.cfg" and the "...\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\prefs\all-companyname.js" (or custom.js) The problem, is no matter what I try I can't get these to work. The closest I got was here:
    http://www.intrntpirate.com/?p=615
    Again, even that ^^ didn't work. I followed these directions to a "T". What is wrong with the above information provided in the link? Why is firefox making harder and harder for us to optimize it for massive deployments across a corporation and a university? I'm not going to do any fancy hacks to avoid the main issue. I need mozilla.cfg, and the all-companyname.js, and the override.ini files to work, if and only if they are still relevant.
    These are what my files look like so far:
    name: all-lmc.js<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\<br />
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");<br />
    pref("browser.startup.homepage", "https://(some url)");<br />
    name: override.ini<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\<br />
    [XRE]<br />
    EnableProfileMigrator=false<br />
    <br />
    name: mozilla.cfg<br />
    location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\<br />
    //<br />
    lockPref("privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown", true);<br />
    lockPref("privacy.sanitize.promptOnSanitize", false);<br />
    lockPref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.enabled", false);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.prompted", 2);<br />
    lockPref("toolkit.telemetry.rejected", true);
    I've tried using, and not using, the automatic mozilla configurator. I've tried changing lockPref to pref. Nothing works. Not the override.ini, not the all-lmc.js, and not the mozilla.cfg. I've wasted hours reading through blogs of experts telling us to modify files that don't exist, or beating around the bush. I'm done researching. If you have the answer or want to help me figure this out just remember to keep it simple. Please. I ultimately want to package all the config files, with a how to, in a zip folder onto our shared drive. To have FF customized and ready to deploy to different departments across campus.

    Thanks very much for your help, but I'm still overlooking something. I double checked to make sure that I did not have a hidden .txt file extention. I then decided to abandon the lock on preferences idea until I get it working. I converted my mozilla.cfg file back to plain text. I made sure I do not have an extra blank line at the end of each file. The syntax looks good, as far as I can tell. I'll copy and paste what I have so far. Did I have the file locations correct posted above? Also, if you feel i can delete some lines of text in my mozilla.cfg file I'll be happy to do so.
    mozilla.cfg
    <pre><nowiki>//
    pref("privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown", true);
    pref("privacy.sanitize.promptOnSanitize", false);
    pref("browser.rights.override", true);
    pref(“app.update.auto”, false);
    pref(“extensions.blocklist.enabled”, false);
    pref(“extensions.shownselectionUI”, true);
    pref(“browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser”, false);
    pref(“toolkit.telemetry.enabled”, false);
    pref(“toolkit.telemetry.prompted”, 2);
    pref(“toolkit.telemetry.rejected”, true);
    pref(“app.update.auto”, false);
    pref(“browser.download.useDownloadDir”, true);
    pref(“browser.search.update”, false);
    pref(“signon.autofillForms”, false);
    pref(“signon.rememberSignons”, false);
    pref(“browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone”, true);
    pref(“browser.formfill.enable”, false);
    pref(“xpinstall.enabled”, true);</nowiki></pre>
    channel-prefs.js
    pref("app.update.channel", "release");
    override.ini
    [XRE]
    EnableProfileMigrator=false
    all-lmc.js
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    defaultPref("browser.startup.homepage", "data:text/plain,browser.startup.homepage=http://bbc.co.uk");
    Again, thank you very much for your time. Do I create my own browserconfig.properties, and firefox.js? Also, I forgot to mention I'm running Windows 8.

  • Overriding attributes in ABAP objects

    Hello,
    I currently want know if it is possible to override attributes in ABAP objects. i know it is possible with methods. I have extend a previous class functionality and want to change the refrence type of an attribute from the parent class, but only on the child. Is this possible in ABAP object or even in normal object oriented techniques.
    Thanks
    Brendan

    Hi,
    ususally you can achive this with other technics. You can e.g. use the class hierarchy for this:
    The attribute is of type REF_SUPERCLASS. Within the superclass it should be working when you set subclasses of REF_SUPERCLASS as attribute.
    Another way is to use interfaces as reference type for your attribute.
    Please refer to [ABAP Objects|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/ce/b518b6513611d194a50000e8353423/frameset.htm]. Especially the chapters about Inheritance and Interfaces.

  • Screen saver overrides iTunes cover flow in Lion

    On my new iMac (OSX 10.7.1, iTunes 10.4.1), when in full screen cover flow mode, the screen saver overrides this, which is annoying as I like to leave it playing with the artwork displayed. This did not happen on my old (Leopard) Mac. I can't find any preference setting that seems to fix this. I dont really want to turn off the screen saver - I didn't have to before, why now?

    Have you tried creating a hot corner (System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver - Hot Corners) to disable the screen saver by parking mouse pointer in the "hot corner."
    I'm assuming Lion still has this function.

    Oh, I see that the title of your post is an error message? Ok. Well, the test class is declared as implementing an ActionListener. That means the test class must have an actionPerformed() method. Your test class apparently does not.
    It does not appear that the test class needs to implement ActionListener. You are using annonymous classes as listeners.

    Meet.InteractiveTableModelListener is not abstract and does not override abstract method tableChanged(javax.swing.event.TableModelEvent)in javax.swing.event.TableModelListener
    what would be causing this error?
    Cheers

    Sorry, just figured out my silly error, the method is tableChanged not TableChanged.
    cheers

  • Is not abstract and does not override abstract method ERROR

    Hello. I'm new at all this, and am attempting to recreate a sample code out of my book (Teach Yourself XML in 24 Hours), and I keep getting an error. I appriciate any help.
    This is the Error that I get:

    System.out.println("Prefix mapping: " + prefix);
    System.out.println("URI: " + uri);
    public void endPrefixMapping(String prefix)
    System.out.println("End of prefix mapping: " + prefix);
    public void ignorableWhitespace(char[] ch, int start, int length)
    System.out.println("Recieved whitespace.");
    public void processingInstruction(String target, String data)
    System.out.println("Recieved processing instruction:");
    System.out.println("Target: " + target);
    System.out.println("Data: " + data);
    public void setDocumentLocation(Locator locator)

    public void error(SAXParseException exception)
    System.out.println("Parsing error on line " + exception.getLineNumber());
    public void fatalError(SAXParseException exception)
    System.out.println("Fatal parsing error on line " + exception.getLineNumber());
    public void warning(SAXParseException exception)
    System.out.println("Warning on line " + exception.getLineNumber());

    Check to make sure that the arguments are consistent with your ContentHandler class. Probably the wrong type.
    I think you forgot to include the skippedEntity method, it seems to be missing. Even if an implemented class has a method that you are not using, you still have to include the method in your code even if it doesn't do anything.

  • ...is not abstract and does not override abstract method compare

    Why am I getting the above compile error when I am very clearly overriding abstract method compare (ditto abstract method compareTo)? Here is my code -- which was presented 1.5 code and I'm trying to retrofit to 1.4 -- followed by the complete compile time error. Thanks in advance for your help (even though I'm sure this is an easy question for you experts):

    According to the book I'm reading, if you merely take
    out the generic from the code, it should compile and
    run in v1.4 (assuming, of course, that the class
    exists in 1.4). I don't know what book you are reading but that's certainly incorrect or incomplete at least. I've manually retrofitted code to 1.4, and you'll be inserting casts as well as replacing type references with Object (or the erased type, to be more precise).
    These interfaces do exist in 1.4, and
    without the generics.Exactly. Which means compareTo takes an Object, and you should change your overriding method accordingly.
    But this raises a new question: how does my 1.4
    compiler know anything about generics? It doesn't and it can't. As the compiler is telling you, those interfaces expect Object. Think about it, you want to implement one interface which declares a method argument type of Object, in several classes, each with a different type. Obviously all of those are not valid overrides.
