MOD file import question

School has sent a MOD file, i can rename it as an MPG and play it in VLC but what do i need to do to get it into imovie 08? renaming as an mp4 didn't work
thanks

VLC can play .mod files via changing the extension, while iMovie'08 is unable to edit the files in this way. As people mentioned above, you have to transcode .mod files to iMovie workable format in advance via a third party software like mpegstreamclip, Pavtube mod video converter, etc. The good news is iMovie 9 is able to support this format as long as you connect your camera to it directly.

  • File import questions and folder display questions

    I am running LR3 on Win 7 x64. I have a few questions.
I have a hard drive assigned to drive letter "B:\" Why doesn't the file imported see this drive in the list of drives? I have to use the "other drives" and browse every time that I want to add files from this disk. Other drives, including networked drives are fine.
When importing from a main folder and including subfolders, is there a way to filter files in any manner? I never want to import web galleries that I have made in bridge, for example. These files have very small JPG files, thumbnails and web images. Is there a way to exclude them form consideration whilst importing? Is there a way to reveal and show the thumbnails with the folder structure? I don't want to have to browse to every folder individually when I am trying to import all useful images from an entire disk. If LR would at least show the folder structure of the subfolders when you select photos from a top level folder, this would help. How can I do this?
In the library view of folders, how I filter on all files in one disk? I can select a folder under the disk and see just that folder, but LR will not allow me to select the entire disk. Is there a way to do this?
How can I display the entire folder structure in the laibrary panel? Some folders are not showing their top level folders that they are inside of. How do I reveal this information?
In the library module, how can I filter on file dimensions? I thought that I had seen this, but I can no longer find this. Sorting by file dimensions would also be an option to accomplish what I am trying to do. I need to delete all thumbnail images and tiny images from the catalog. Is there an easy way to do this?

No, because you don't import a whole disk, you only import images.  And the toplevel disk bar you see there is the disk where the top level folder is stored, not the entire disk.
Let me make this clear.   When I want to view an entire disk,  I am only wanting to select images that I have already imported, not the entire disk including images that I have NOT imported.
I am not sure if you dont understand what I am saying or what.  If you have folders of images inside a top level folder, you can easily select the top folder to see all subfolders that you have imported.  Why can't I select the disk as the top level folder to see all of the images that I have imported on that disk?
I have a cattelog that has images from 8 different disks.  I use removable drive bays so all 8 disks are not available at any given time.  I just want the ability to select all images that I have imported on a disk, just like you can do at the folder level.  I am at a loss as to why this is a problem.
My point about bridge was that LR is a far superior program for organizing images due to its database.  But LR is lacking in some features that could have easily been put into it.  If bridge can do the type of filtering that it does without a good database engine, then certainly LR could and should do it.  In no way do I want to use Bridge to manage cattelogs with 150,000 images.  That would be insane.  I have no issue with the fact that you have to import your images first to use LR.  It has to be this way to work with the database.  My issue is that the filtering is not nearly as comprehensive as bridge.
I dont need help with my workflow.  Back when I shot many of the images that I am importing now into LR, there was no lightroom.  My workflow was much different back then than it is now.  My comments were that I assumed that LR could do things that it cannot, not that I needed help with my current workflow.  Much of the issues that I have now with LR are due to the old workflow and trying to import only the raw images.

  • Premiere Elements 7: image file import question

New question; I would check this out for myself but Adobe seems to have made it impossible for me to get a trial version.  It claims my Firefox has cookies disabled, which is false, and I have gone through every troubleshooting step on multiple sites, and gone beyond those, even, and no joy. I even specifically white-listed adobe.com and turned off all of my security software across the board.  If I log in on IE7 (as I am now) the download just fails with a trouble message to Microsoft; again, I followed all listed troubleshooting steps and total failure.  Judging by the number of irate and frustrated posts about this on the general forum this is a very common problem with Adobe's web site.
    Anyway...
What I need to be able to do, simply stated, is to be able to import several hundred sequentially-numbered rendered 3D image files, have them automatically assigned to individual frames, set a global value for frames per second, and export a high-quality animation file.  Quick and without a lot of fiddly steps required.  I understand the format limitations but I can convert the animation later once it's been created.
Can PE7 do this, easily and painlessly?
    Thanks in advance.

My system is a dual core 3.2GHz Pentium with 2GB of RAM and well over 100GB of free disk space, and it gets defragmented regularly.  I use it for 3D modeling with Rhino 3D and LightWave and handle models with millions of polygons no problem.
The problem with Firefox has nothing to do with system horsepower, it is that this site claims I don't have cookies enabled; I do.  I've gone through all the Mozilla troubleshooting steps, have explicitly whitelisted adobe.com in the browser setting, flushed cookies and cache, uninstalled every single add-on and plug-in I had installed, and even disabled my AV and firewall apps.  This site still claims I don't have cookies enabled.  It makes absolutely no sense and in all the years I've used Firefox on hundreds of sites I have never seen such a problem.
As for IE7, I installed the download manager when prompted, and that app crashes every time I try to download the trial.  I have sufficient temp disk space enabled (the max of 1024 meg), again my system is way more than powerful enough, and I've uninstalled and re-installed the download manager twice.  No dice.  Each time after it asks me where to put the download file the DLM crashes.  I again disabled all security applications, and I don't have any special add-ons for IE installed because I don't use it as a rule.

  • Audio file import questions

1.) What audio bit rate is considered good enough for a project in Premiere that might be played on the web or DVD? I'm guessing 128k is too low?
2.) Does it cause any problems to work with different audio files in a sequence that have different bitrates, bits, khz? Should they all be converted to the same settings prior to being imported?
    Thanks.

    1. What is CFA?
The CFA file is the Conformed Audio File, that PrPro creates, upon Import, for editing. This Adobe KB Article goes into more detail: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS9FAF538A-BEE3-4925-B45A-DF8BE7F2A2E5.ht ml#WS00AF9E2E-9F99-4aff-8961-1E2F30E9ECCC It is only used internally by PrPro.
    - I use AIFF instead of PCM/WAV, is that a bad thing in Premiere?
    - If I have a low quality WAV 22KHz 8-bit, are you saying that CS6 will upconvert it somehow to 48KHz 16-bit? I'm guessing that it does not improve sound quality of the previously lower quality sound file?
A few users have had issues with AIFF files, but those issues could well have been specific to their particular files.
The 22KHz material should Conform quite well, though it might take just a moment longer. PrPro is pretty good with "common" Audio files and also "common" attributes. Regardless of what you Import, PrPro will Conform it to 48KHz 32-bit floating-point, in the CFA, to edit.
I have some older SmartSound libraries that are 22KHz 8-bit, and they Import and edit just fine. As most of my uses have been rather short in Duration, the time to Conform is hardly noticed with those files.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • .mp4 Video File Import Question

I have imported my .mp4 home moves into itunes many times with no incident. I've used both the Roxio Popcorn app and also just add a .mp4 file to Library with no problem.
Now I have a home video that I've just completed and want to add to my movie library but when I use either the popcorn app or just save it and then add to library the video seems to vanish.
The little status bar at the top of itunes shows that its being imported, but when I go looking for it in Movies, TV shows etc then it is nowhere to be found.
I have a feeling its there but I just cant find it. Its somehow hidden.
    Has anyone any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Download and use MPEG Streamclip. Note that AVI is a container, not a format; you will need to know what codecs they support to be certain of creating a compatible AVI.

  • LightRoom 2.2 file import question

    Hi,
I am about to start populating LR 2.2 with image data. I have 2 folders on my hard drive one is Canon G9, the other Canon G10. Each folder has sub folders each labeled with the date and location the images were taken.
If I point Light Room 2.2 at say the top level Canon G9 folder and tell it to import the images will the top level folder labeled Canon G9 and the sub folders title information be retained as-is?
Is it best to leave the program set to generate minimal previews?

    >If I point Light Room 2.2 at say the top level Canon G9 folder and tell it to import the images will the top level folder labeled Canon G9 and the sub folders title information be retained as-is?
Yes, make sure to select "Add photos to catalog without moving" from the File Handling popup. Your folder structure will be maintained completely and be reflected in Lightroom. To make the Canon G9 and Canon G10 folders show up, you might have to right (or control) click on one of the subfolders in Lightroom and select "Add Parent Folder".
P.S. it is a good idea to update to LR 2.3 RC (see top of forum). 2.3 fixes some major bugs with local adjustment and other issues.
    >Is it best to leave the program set to generate minimal previews?
That depends on your editing style. If you first rate and cull, you might want to use at least standard previews. If the culling involves checking focus, it's better to render 1:1 previews at import. If you first start going into develop, then it really doesn't matter very much and you might be better off using minimal previews.

  • Simple file import question

I just installed Lr4 on my laptop.  When I plug in my Nikon D7000 and try to import photos, I just get a message "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read".  Then it lists the file names of the various files.  Message displays regardless if I try .NEF or .JPEG files.  The photos appear in the library module, so I know Lr is pulling them from the correct place (camera).  When I plug the camera into my desktop PC where I also have Lr installed, all works fine.  Help!

Sounds like a hardware problem, if the desktop reads things fine.

  • PSE4 file import question

I am trying to import (get a photo) from a file (scanned a photo to file previously). The photo is a jpg photo (7.5 Meg, 11668X16524). After the photo is imported, I get an icon with an exclamation point in the middle square and cannot view the photo. How can I import this file?

You may get a better answer in the Elements forum.

  • Premiere - Import/Export/Edit MOD Files

Any word on when or if MOD file import and/or export support will be added to Premiere?
What is the best way to work with MOD files when using Premiere?
What are the pros and cons of using Adobe elements with MOD files?
Tools, tips and techniques are greatly appreciated!!! :)
    Best regards,
    Rick

Based on reading a LOT of problem reports, importing files from a DVD camcorder or other MPEG device, or Ripping DVD files rarely results in success in Premiere... do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is designed to be for PLAYBACK only... and that includes trying to edit a Standard Def MPEG or VOB file!
You should also use WAV sound files, not the compressed MP3 format, To work with AC3 files in Premiere, it MAY work to copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore DVD directory into the Premiere directory
Go to my notes page http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/ADOBE.HTM
Click the internal link for editing compressed files... read
There are other products better suited to your task... but if you only have DVD type files, you should convert to DV AVI... go to the VideoHelp link in my notes and look for a program to convert
The only SD (Standard Def) files that Premiere really likes are DV AVI type 2

  • Mod files from JVC camera are distorted when I import them.

My project is already set up for mts files.  Are the mods distorted because of this?  Or do I need to change the file format completely?

Hi Kirk - I've seen that QT is no mystery to you, so let me ask for some help with the ominous .mod-file conversion. I have a JVC gz-mc500, which produces decent footage in .mod-files. Moving to iLife 08 I was expecting that I could just connect the camera and see it ready for import. Your post further encouraged that hope. However, it is not the case. My question is, did I do something wrong or are there different .mod files. What can I do to make my camcorder work with iLife 08. And if there is no way, what should I use for conversion (so fa tried out mpegstreamclip, which seems to be highly recommended by the user community, but I did not come across a set of options/pre-sets to work with best. Any hint would be highly welcome.

  • Unable to View .mod files in Photoshop Elements 11, can see they are there but no picture, I import them into Premiere and all OK ?

I have hundreds of .mod files which are supported but I am unable to view them on my Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. I cant see the picture icons as pictures or see the vision when i select them? I am running the latest Windows 8.1 PC with heaps of Ram and memory. If I import the files into Premiere they play fine?

    Thanks Curt and 'Mylenium'
I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.

  • How to import questions into Captivate 4 from a delimited file

    I'm looking
a way to import questions from a delimited text file (or excel spreadsheet)
    into captivate.
All the questions are simple multiple choice, single answer, four selections per question.
I have hundreds - I'd hate to have to retype them all in one at a time.
    Thanks in advance
    -Joan

Does anyone know if this is a feature in Captivate 5.
Other things I would really like to see in Captivate 5.
Importing and Exporting the graded quiz/test content out of captivate into another
application/ form.  Such as xml, tab delimited, excel spreadsheet,
Adobe pdf, Word document or another format.  Our current content
developement systems allows us to (when publishing) do this.
1> exclude questions from the Published content
(exclude section questions, or final test content)
2> produce different test versions from question banks
3> Produce a PDF paper test for when we want to train in a classroom setting
4> Select which questions we want to produce
5> Import questions from a pre-defined format.  To note: when we do this the system also makes us define a unique interaction id so that the import will update existing questions.
I know this will NOT work for some of the more sophisticated questions, But for the simple Mulitple choice, true/false, fill in the blank.  etc..
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE..
It would also be NICE TO HAVE THE abiliy to PROFILE versions of the SAME Course WITH OUT REPRODUCING / DUPLICATING / REPEATING THE  ENTIRE COURSE PRESENTATION.
    Such as
    "INSTRUCTOR TAUGHT TRAINING"
    "WEB TRAINING"
    "PAPER TEST A"
    "PAPER TEST B"
    ETC...
LASTLY: if we can not export the QUIZ content.  Can an excel spreadsheet LIKE INTERFACE be used to edit certain aspects of the questions.
Such as the InteractionId which is sent to the LMS ('cmi.interactions.0.id').  My developer team says it is real difficult and time consuming
to track down interactionIds and then maintain them in a perfect way.

  • Importing .MOD files without having the .MOI files

    Hi
I have a Panasonic sdr-s100 which records MPEG2 video in the .MOD/.MOI format onto sd cards.
Apart from the current 40+ restriction issue (see other posts), iMovie 08 imports new footage perfectly fine from my sd-card through my card reader.
The real problem I am having is with the older footage I recorded over the last year and a half. You see, I deleted all the .MOI files which were - until iMovie 08 got released - commonly regarded as useless once you had the movie/.MOD files on your hard drive. It was assumed these were only needed by the camcorder. How wrong we all were!!
So now I am having these neatly organized folders on my hard drive (100GB>) containing just the .MOD files, which iMovie refuses to recognize under File>Import. Copying the .MOD files back to an sd-card seemed like another option but iMovie 08 needs the accompanying .MOI files for the "Camera detected" message to pop up.
There is another thread (on which I have also posted), where we are trying to find some way to regenerate those .MOI files or use other similar methods, but none are really successful as yet. We also contacted JVC and Panasonic but it is not looking good so far. See here: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=77489
Ideally, iMovie 08 would import my .MOD files straight from my hard drive without the need for .MOI files and simply use the .MOD's date modified info as the time stamp within iMovie 08. I do not wish to go via the DV route and re-import etc as it is way too time-consuming.
Has anyone got any other tips or similar problems? In the meantime I have sent this issue to Apple Feedback.
    Message was edited by: RafDam

MP_Root (at the root level of the card directory structure) and putting a folder 101PNV01 inside the MP_Root folder. I then put some mpg-2 file in the 101PNV01 folder, started iMovie '08, inserted the flash card and had the files recognized so I could import them.
    Great. This works!
Here is what I did (and this should work for anyone who has old .MOD files but no longer has the accompanying .MOI files):
    Like F Shippey stated
    1) Create a root folder on your sd card (in my case, via a USB card reader) or USB stick (not tested) called Mp_Root.
    2) Inside this folder create another folder called 101PNV01.
    3) Rename the extensions of all your .MOD files to .MPG and copy them inside the 101PNV01 folder.
    4) Restart iMovie08. It will now detect a new camera and import all clips using the date created/modified info as timestamps for perfect cataloging!
iMovie 08 does NOT re-encode the movie files, which is great cos it's very quick plus you retain 100% the original quality. It simply puts them in a .MOV container and creates a separate movie file for the thumbnails.
Thanks for your help F Shippey!

  • How to convert .MOD files into .DV for iMovie import

I am urgently (and desperately) trying to import some .MOD files into iMovie 09 for editing. They were made on a JVC cam, but I only have them on HDD now. I tried renaming files to .avi, but still cannot import them. I used Handbrake to convert to mp4 files and can import them now, but quality seems to be reduced even though destination file size is similar.
Can anyone tell me how to convert the .MOD files to .DV files easily? I have read about the ffmpeg tool that you can use in the Terminal, but am not confident to do this as have never used Terminal !
Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.
    MikeC

I have a JVC everio 30 GB hard drive video camera and I'm trying to convert the videos as well. Mine are also in mod format and my computer won't convert it either. Should I upgrade to quicktime pro 7 for $30 or just pay $20 for the mpeg-2 add-on? This is for a family camera that is used mainly for occasional family vacations/get together's. No editing, I just want to get these off the camera's hard drive because the hard drive is running out of space and I wanna be able to make them into DVDs so we have a hard copy in case anything happens to my laptop. I'm not sure which is better for my use? The add-on is cheaper but is there other advantages for me to get pro?
    Thanks for the help

  • Importing MOD files

I am considering buying a Canon FS300 video camcorder. Some of the reviews cite difficulties with importing the files into imovie '09 because they are MOD files. However, the apple camcorder support article doesn't note any difficulties. I'm not interested in doing a lot of converting of files - I want an easy to use camcorder. Anyone have any experience with this camera and imovie?

I have iMovie09 and the FS300, and found it easy to import the movies from the camera. I imported my videos by first connecting the camera my MacBook Pro without iMovie open. Then I turned on the camera and let it initialize. Then started iMovie, which recognized the camera on start-up, and was able to import.
