Modal dialog limiting the mouse pointer and blocking all application

I wanted to create a modal dialog that blocks all application in my desktop. Only password field be present and exits only if correct password is typed. I also wanted to limit the mouse pointer within the window of the modal dialog. Will that be possible? i have read modality feature of Mustang(beta) and notes there that system modality is not included. Can anybody there give me an idea how to do tricks on blocking all applications of the desktop? I will be much grateful to anybody who could solve this problem. Thnx in advance...

all i wanted is to make an internet cafe client/server that blocks the client's pc interaction if log time is reached.blocking only the keyboard and mouse.
i have seen so many softwares sets the cursor position within the dialog bounding box only with user and password there. though my other application runs the mouse is still captured on the dialog even the dialog lost focus.
if that would not be possible I'll just send notification to the client, a dialog that does not block any application.
now, im going to try if the client can do som action whenever the server sends alert if the client java app is not the focus. i will post next time what hapens.but if you tried already, if u dont mind posting it so others could know it also..

Small Black Vertical Lines follow my mouse pointer AND surround all ICONS on my desktop. I just turned on my computer and it showed like this. I already tested my monitor and it's not the monitor.

Looking at websites, it's fine the display but any icons and my pointer and things that move have these lines following! Looking at VIDEO, it's the picture is full of white and black lines though you can see the video just fine.

I am in Safe Mode now: This is the weirdest thing: A bit from column A AND B:
The display is perfect EXCEPT for two parallel lines of 17, 3 millimeter-long black lines that follow the pointer everywhere it goes.
Get this: my current display is 1024x768, but when I change it to 640x480, the pointer and everything is perfect! (of course, I can only see a fraction of my desktop)
But then again... when I zoom in and out holding down control (in 640x480) the pointer lines appear again, but less lines. They disappear when I re-reset it to 640.
Strange.
But yeah, safe mode is NEAR perfect with the except of the cursor lines. I can screen grab my cursor though to show...

My 13" macbook pro isnt starting up. I goes to a grey screen and flickers between the mouse icon and then the spinning start up icon. any ideas?

I have just updated my macbook pro 13" with requested updates and asked me to restart. Upon restarting it went to the grey startup screen where it just sticks flashing betwwen shades of grey. One shade which the mouse pointer and another shade with the start up wheel?

You may be having a hardware problem that you cannot resolve on your own. Nevertheless...
...hold down the command and R keys whilst booting to try to get to your Recovery partition. If you can, use Disk Utility to try to Verify your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). If the verification fails, try to repair your hard drive. If everything appears to be OK, restart.
If you can't get into your Recovery partition, your problem is likely hardware related. If so, keep your appointment and see what the Apple techs have to say.

The mouse pointer and keyboard can not control. Only powe button can use.
The system is still running. The clock and battery indicator is still working

Not a solution, I'm afraid, just concurring -- I am experiencing a very similar problem with the keyboard, but not the mouse pointer. I get an intermittent temporary freeze lasting maybe ten seconds, after which it recovers. Although I suspect waking the machine from sleep may set these off, I couldn't swear to it, and I have experienced several of these sequentially, maybe five minutes apart.

Just got a new macbook air and every time I close the cover and then reopen it later the mouse pointer freezes. I've just updated the operating system but no help Seems like it might be a software problem with mousepad. Its only 3 weeks new !

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

When I enter time machine (on Time Capsule) i see the stack of screen shots and the time line. However, when I roll over the mouse pointer, the time line does not activate. The cancel button does not get me out of the app: have to alt cmd esc. Ideas?

I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard. It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion. The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot. Had the constant spinner on a grey screen.. did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck. Crashed my system one too many times. I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac. I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive. I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control. Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh? I use the hot corners anyhow. As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow. I don't like the new Mail either..
As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

it an invalid question. Suppose you had an
application dedicated to real-time monitoring of a

potentially hazardous - people could get hurt. In
this case, would it not make sense to make the
application "system-modal"? Furthermore, it would be
a convenience to the operator if the mouse pointer
were trapped in this critical application.

For such an application, then, it would occupy the entire screen and there would be no way to swap away from it to any other application. I have an Icon on a dailog box, and when i drag the icon i want to set the mouse pointer at the center of the icon. The mouse pointer get sets to Icon Frame's leftside. i want it excatly at the center. Can plz any one help to solve this problem.

When a link is rolled over by the mouse pointer a very annoying pop up with the link address shows up. There seems to be no way to prevent this from happening. How can this pop up be made to go away?

no matter what website, every time I move the mouse pointer over something to click on a line of black printing in a thin white box pops up at the bottom of the screen and shows me the http address of the item I'm about to click on. I want to shut this function off or remove it if possible. I find that the previous version did not do this, it seems to be unique to 6.0. It's VERY distracting and ANNOYING. When you hover the mouse cursor over any link, it will display the link details at the bottom left of the screen; black font on white background.
This display can be very important as it shows the full address of the hyperlink. This can be particulary useful for checking on whether the link is bona-fida. For example; if you receive an email that looks like it is from a bank , hovering over the link will indicate instantly that the link is pretending to be something it isn't.
Another example that can be useful; a website link may say 'contact me' rather than give the actual email address. However, when you hover over the link, the actual email address will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. If you click on the link then Outlook usually opens, however I do not use Outlook, so displaying the email address is useful.
This display is something that has always been present and it is also displayed if you use IE.
However, I can see that this annoys you, so you could try the following:

After installing the addon, you will need to restart Firefox, then go to History and Restore previous session to get all your tabs and webpages back.

External display won't show the mouse pointer (optical)

hi all,
13" display dimming my old eyes . decided to connect to 20" sony monitor. got the adapter > connected> display shows identical to laptop BUT no mouse pointer AND when the external monitor is displaying, the menubar is not longer existent on the powerbook (the trackpad does work on the laptop screen with external connected ) so I cannot get to the display preferences to set anything up to get the mouse pointer to show on the external monitor.
