Modbus Object Bug?

Another problem with modbus object?  Maybe so.
PLCs are Koyo DL06, same program, exactly just different modbus addresses.  Sites poll every 60 seconds. I have the modbus objects copied exactly the same settings (except station address of course).
PLC1:  Connection on 40889 sets a 1 on every other poll. Polls. Updates. Done.  All good.
PLC2:  Connection on 40889 sets a 1 on every other poll. Polls. Updates. Polls. Updates. Polls. Updates....  It doesnt stop.
Heres the funny thing.  If i make a new modbus object:
PLC2TEMP:  Connection on 40889 sets a 1 on every other poll. Polls. Updates.  Done.
My modbus.ini settings:
[all]
UpdateOutputs=2
RefreshOutputs=1
Thanks for the help

I do the same configuration and test on my computer.  It polls every 15 sec. UpdateOutputs=2 RefreshOutputs=1, "immediately write" checked.
The below is the log file on serial port.
[01][01][00][00][00][01][FD][CA] is the read on every poll. See, if the write output is not changed, there is no write function sent out. On every poll, it just reads the value back, no write.
After I change the switch to ON, it sends out [01][05][00][00][FF][00][8C][3A] immediately. [05] is write single coil.
So, when immediately write is checked, UpdateOutputs is almost meaningless, because the output will be updated immediately.
What do you mean by "Updates. Done.  All good." I think if you set polls=60 sec, it should poll every 60sec, it should not stop polling.
So could you also make the log file on serial port? With the log file, we may find something.

  • Communication problem with Modbus object in Lookout 3.8

What means the error code 06 besides the following alarm message NO COMMUNICATION RESPONSE FROM MODBUS SECONDARY ? Lookout runtime-express version 3.8 build 7

    Greetings,
The alarm message "No Communication response from modbus secondary" means that communication cannot be established between the modbus object and your external device. Verify that you have set up the serial port settings properly and that you have configured the modbus object. Verify that your external device is functioning properly and connected to the PC. If all of these things are ok, you may need to increase the receive gap of the serial port settings and the receive timeout of the modbus object. There is a tutorial on the web which outlines the troubleshooting steps for communication in Lookout.

  • Inhibiting a Modbus object's Commfail alarms from inidicating on the alarm panel

I have an Lookout v5.0 application that runs under W2K, SP2. This application has 65 modbus objects that have individual pots that are tied to the poll rate for their respective modbus object. When there is a failure of a modbus object, usually vandalism at the remote RTU site bring down the PLC, I would like to inhibit the modbus object from indicating commfail in the alarm window. I know about setting the poll rate to zero or some large number, but this still does not remove the alarm. Even blanking the poll rate field does nothing to remove the alarm. I would like to remove the existing alarm and prevent any further alarms from indicating on the alarm window. Visualize like a modbus alarm enab
    le/disable switch. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
I looked into your questions about disabling the Modbus Comm alarms. The easiest way Ive found to disable these alarms is to set the Alarm Priority for the Modbus objects to 0. This should make the alarms not ever appear in the Alarms Window. The only downside to this is that the Alarm Priority cannot be set programmatically so once you set it to 0 you will never see the alarm until you set it to a value grater than 0.
A second option that may or may not work for you is to use a Pulse object to continually acknowledge the alarm area where the Modbus Comm Alarms appear (this defaults to the comm area). To do this just create a Pulse object and then create a connection from the $Alarm.comm.ack to the Pu
lse objects output (the expression might look like $Alarm.comm.ack=Timer1). The downside to this approach is that this will only acknowledge the alarms from that area, so if the alarm is still active (for instance if the communications to the RTU is still failing) then the alarm will still appear in the Alarms window in an acknowledged state. The alarm wont disappear until the fault condition goes away.
I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything I can help with or clarify.

  • AS3 Masking with multiple objects bug

    Hi again.
I have simplified my script to tell more about the problem.
I'm creating Sprite which holds other Sprites with graphics. The whole Sprite is used to mask MovieClip.
When I don't apply it as a mask, it shows, that objects are rendered correctly. But when I add it as a mask, flash fails to draw a mask where those Sprite objects overlap each other. You can see an example here:
    With no masking applied: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/29/screenshot20110914at432.png/
    With masking applied: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/233/screenshot20110914at433.png/
As i've seen, this bug doesn't occur everytime mask overlaps.
    What could be the problem?

  • Photoshop CC 14.2 Smart Objects Bug

    Hey,
While updating to the latest Photoshop CC 14.2 (today, 17.01.2014) I've found a huge bug with the traditional smart objects behavior.
I recorded a video. Please, take a look on it.

    SG... wrote:
    Hi Herbert2001,
What do you mean by 'smart objects do not update in realtime'? Can you outline steps to exhibit the behavior?
    regards,
    steve
Suppose you wanted to create a mirrored setup with two or more smart objects, or your project consists of multiple smart objects that are used throughout the design as repeatable patterns (let's say jewels, or textures).
So you open the contents of the smart object in a new window, and arrange both windows horizontally. Now draw in or change the smart object's contents - nothing happens in the main project. The user is forced to save the smart object first before the changes are applied. In effect a new separate file is generated.
Very cumbersome. Even more counter-productive is that the user cannot edit a smart object's content in place in the original file, and that Photoshop opens a new window instead. (I understand that external files like Illustrator cannot be edited in place, but Photoshop elements should really have that option.)
All of this severely breaks the workflow. An alternative workflow is presented in Photoline: the user is able to create virtual clones/instances of any type of layer, layer groups, and layer masks, and when the source layer is edited in some way those changes update in real time cascading throughout the project. No need for the content to be opened in a separate window. Also worthy of note is that the changes are applied while the user draws or changes the vector shape(s) - which makes it incredibly useful for mirrored painting, to cite just one example.
Flash also offers this type of functionality: double-click a symbol, and the user can edit it in place. Changing the object automatically updates the other instances. Unfortunately even Flash does not update in "real time", only after you made the changes does it update the instances.
All in all, dealing with smart objects in Photoshop is a bit of a pain compared. Just not a very well thought out feature, in my opinion, and in dire need for an update - the externally linked content is a step in the good direction, but the actual implementation of "smart objects" is rather "dumb". ;-)

  • Smart Object Bug?

When I edit Smart Objects in CS5.5 they open in their own window; meaning I only see the smart object in my new window when I chose to edit. In CS6 I am seeing the actual document I made the Smart Object from, as well as the Smart Object when I edit the Smart Object, AND it has its own rounded border that when saved out, does not appear - it is taking that from the original for no reason.
Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit only. I did not install 32 bit.

    Hi Zeno,
Thanks for the suggestion. Resetting the temp directory to another location is a good workaround. I was having the same problem with another program, CuteFTP, and changing the temp dir fixed its problem too. I had previously tried running in Compatibility mode, Administrator mode and both together but none of those modes helped.
It would still be nice to know why Windows 7 denies access to its own temp directory but at least now, I can get back to work.
    Thanks,

  • Unwanted drop shadow showing up on shape objects - BUG?

    Hi all,
I am currently using photoshop cc 2014 and pasting vector objects in as a "Shape Layer" - for some reason a shadow is showing up around every object i create since i upgraded to cc 2014 but it is NOT a layer style. How do i remove this? is it a graphics issue or processor issue? Does anyone know the settings to allow me to create shapes with sharp edges?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm running into a similar problem. I've pasted a shape from illustrator as a vector smart object. When I have a green rectangle below it, there is no drop shadow. But when I hide that layer, the drop shadow clearly shows above the white background.
It appears to be controlled by the global light under layer styles, but I can't turn it off even when "Drop Shadow" is unclicked.
Drop shadow clearly showing, even when it's unclicked in Layer Style.
No Drop Shadow showing when there is a green rectangle underneath.
Drop Shadow appears over white Background when the green rectangle is turned off.
Drop Shadow appears to be controlled by Global Light, but there seems to be no way of turning it off.
What am I missing here? Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

  • Immediately write outputs - more on modbus plus performance

    more on modbus plus performance
I have more dilemmas considering modbus plus. I'm trying to reduce the unnecessary traffic as much as possible, so I've unchecked "immediately write outputs" in advanced settings for modbus plus hoping that lookout will write to plc only when modbus object is polled. However, it seems that it doesn't happen that way, looks to me like lookout is writing to plc poll or no poll. I need to cut down the traffic because I have delay in system response and I'm considering lookout's share in it.
I have a feeling that making a system with deterministic response (which should be one of mb+ highlights) is quite cumbersome and sometimes impossible.
Can anyone comment on this issue and maybe share ideas for improving modbus response time? Is there anything about modbus plus and lookout on ni.com that I'm not aware of?
    Darko

By default, Lookout writes Outputs immediately (without waiting for the poll).  BUT, if you uncheck the "immediately write outputs" setting, it should write only when polled.  If it's not doing this, it's a bug -- can someone at NI verify this?
Couple of things you can try for improving communication performance:
    1. Make sure you're not writing outputs every-so-many polls (unless you really have to).  By default, Modbus Object writes the Outputs every 100th poll -- even if none of them have changed.  Use the Modbus INI settings to change this behaviour:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2E64D5CF87CA6A1086256BB30070DC1A
    2. If you have some IO points which don't need to be read as fast as others, use a second Modbus object for these with a slower poll rate (but on the same address, etc.).
    3. Use an appropriate update deadband for your analog reads -- you can filter out "noise" from data this way.  Note that the IO are still read every poll, but aren't propagated to the rest of the system unless the deadband is surpassed.
    Hope this helps,
    -Khalid

  • Lookout's Modbus Slave Address

    Hi,
It appears that the Modbus Slave (Ethernet) Object in Lookout (6.0.1) doesn't work with an Address (or "Identifier") greater than 127.
I tried a simple test with the Modbus Object in one process with an address of 128.  And a ModbusSlave Object in another process with its address as 128.  There's no communication.  However, when I make the addresses 127 (or lower), they yak like nobody's business!
I haven't tested the Serial version though.
    Est-ce un bug?
    -Khalid

    Hi Khalid,
I think I was overlooking the Lookout 6.01 version that you mentioned earlier in your post  ! I was able to recreate the issue that you are facing if I create a modbus slave object in Lookout 6.01 version. Thats a bug! And version 6.02 has a fix for it!
    Have a great day!

  • Lookout modbus plus performance

I'm running 9 Schneider Electric PLCs Compact 265 connected to Lookout v5 PC via modbus plus. I have cyclic stalls of transport, each 50 secs or so, which last for 3 or even more seconds. I've tried all the settings there are on modbus object in Lookout, but with no success, only different graph shapes in performance monitor (you can have a look at graphs at the end of mail). Even single PLC on network (with others shut down) freezes the communication for more then second, which is unacceptable since I need to refresh my data at least each 350ms.
    I've considered 3 things:
    1. PLC underperforms
I've checked scan time in PLCs, they're all running smooth with scan time under 90ms. This time doesn't increase even during modbus peaks, I've reduced watchdog to 100ms and it never triggered. Looks to me like plc has more than enough time for modbus, so plc should not be the problem.
    2. PC underperforms
Hardly a problem, PC running under 5% most of the time, never goes over 50% no matter what I do.
    3. modbus underperforms
Statistics show no garbled or timed out frames on any plc, so wiring should be fine.
PLC uses 130 registers of memory (type 4 – holding register). With all registers back to back (no slack between registers), this should mean that all the memory can be transferred in 2 frames. This also means total data load per sec should be
    9 plcs * 3 refreshes * 130 reg * 2 bytes = 7030 bytes.
Even with overhead included, this is so little compared to theoretical 120 kbytes modbus plus should be able to perform, so nothing else for me to do but scratch my head.
I've checked Lookout source for any loops which could initiate some read or write at 50sec cycle, but there's nothing even close anywhere in program.
Am I missing something? Can anyone tell me why modbus freezes my system?
    Bye everyone,
    Darko
    SVETLOST TEATAR

    Hello,
It’s been a while since I last checked the forum, but in the meanwhile I’ve resolve the problem.
The solution lies in modbus.ini and the way modbus object communicates with modbus secondary, an issue not properly covered by help and ni.com. Unless defined otherwise in modbus.ini, modbus object will refresh all of the configured memory points in your plc each 50 or so polls (I can’t remember which is the default value). This can be a problem if the number of memory points is large, because it congests modbus and creates performance stalls.
You can read more about this here: Lookout Driver Objects - Custom INI File Settings (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/E54F75254BBE772786256CFC00700B5F).
    Thanks everybody for joining in.
    Bye,

    David,
You are right, theer are some changes incorporated in the latest MLR # 16 on the configurations files and on the dehydration store metrics(such as performance, fields,..).
However, I would not suggest to continue working on olite, even for Development/Test purposes as you might get stuck with strange errors...and the only solution would be to re-install SOA Suite if your olite gets corrupted. There might be ways to gets your olite back to position, but trust me..its not so simple.
Also, when you develop and stress test all your testcase scenarios in an TEST Adv installation, its simple to mimic the same in actual production box, as you exactly know its behavior.
So, go for a brand new SOA 10.1.3.4 MLR # 5 (or) 10.1.3.3.1 MLR # 16 SOA Suite Advanced installation with Oracle DB 10.2.0.3 as its dehydration store.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers
    Anirudh Pucha
