Mode – "Multichannels" and importing to Illustrator or Indesign

Hello, I transformed a CMYK photograph channels in Pantone Inks. The file is transformed to Mode – "Multichannels" and I cannot import in Illustrator or Indesign to make the final ready for the printer. Can you help please how can I do this? Thank you!

Actually... it implicates new problems... The file like this becomes WHITE besides the Pantone channels are there but they HIDE automatically. They are there BUT it only show the WHITE channels in visualisation. If i save and open the file again the pantone channels becomes not HIGHLIGHTED (no little eye icon ON...) Only the 4 CMYK channels... So when i import the file is white now...
Again if i delete the CMYK channels the file goes back to Multichannels and i am back to where i started... do you understand where i am getting at? So sorry and if you have any idea please let me know.
Thank you. Regards

  • Export and Import of content in indesign

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for helping me out.
i work on indesign for book publishing. Is there are way where i can export just the content from my book ( through XML or anything suggested), send it to translator and import the same XML after translation. So that my development work time will reduce? Please suggest any better to achieve it

Peter's correct, as usual. The answer is "whatever your translation provider needs." But their answer will really depends on the kind of book you've written, both the content and the format. If it's a technical manual that has lots of graphics and callouts and such, but not already XML-tagged, I'd ask for a complete InDesign packge with all links. If it were a comparatively simple book that was just text - say, a novel, or a manual that was primarily structured text - then an exported IDML file would be all I'd need. Your translation provider is likely to use a translation tool that, as Peter suggests, will only accept IDML files.
Now, if you tagged your InDesign document for XML export, then you probably have a workflow that you could describe for us that would give us an idea as to whether or not you could export XML for translation. But frankly, if XML is already part of your workflow, then it may be easier to go back to your data source and generate XLIFF or some other easy-to-localize format.
Lastly - when you want to reduce your "development time" what are you talking about? Usually translation providers will want to handle the format as well, and not just because they bill for it! If you don't read the langauge then you won't know the typographical conventions, or how to handle the fonts. It's awfully easy to ruin a translation if you try to format it but can't read it.

  • Workflow for exporting xml from Excel and importing into table in InDesign

    Hello,
I have worked out how to get data from a .xlsx into a table in InDesign. However, the workflow is still a little clunky and I am looking for way to automate the process further. My current workflow is as follows (files can be download here: http://visual360.co.uk/xml.zip)
xml is exported from .xlsx by mapping the schema (see what_I_get.xml)
assign tags to table and individual cells in InDesign
This is the clunky bit: edit the what_I_get.xml to:
remove the indentation (this seems necessary as otherwise when I get to stage 4, all the imported text is also indented)
add tag for table in InDesign (p10_table)
add tags for individual cells (p10_c11 etc.)
import the produced what_I_want.xml in the structure panel of InDesign.
Can anyone point me in the direction of how to automate step 3 above?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

    Hi Mike,
Thanks very much for the reply. I am not at all familiar with XSL/XSLT. I have given it a quick google and it seems like it could be quite a steep learning curve to master. Maybe if I explain the whole context here, it may allow you to point me in the direction of a tutorial that provides a step by step approach to achieve my final goal. Alternatively, you may be able to suggest a whole new workflow.
I am in the process of updating this document: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/students/insessional/assets/documents/IS_Brochure_2014-15.pdf
The tables on pages 10-21 contain lots and lots of repeated information. We want the layout to in this format so that each group of students has all the information relevant to them on a single double spread. However, the challenge of using this approach is that it is very high maintenance to ensure the duplicated information is kept in sync - even using a copy / paste approach.
I was hoping to overcome this by using a single source of data (eg. a spreadsheet) which would then feed into the InDesign. This workflow seems to be overcomplicated by the apparent need to use xml as the "middle-man".
Ideally, I would like to press the export button in Excel and get this information into the the correct cells in the tables on pages 10-21 without a significant amount of manual labour - after all, my reasons for investigating an automated approach in the first place was to avoid the manual entering of data ie. the scope for error...
An alternative approach maybe to skip Excel altogether and just use .xml. However, I am not sure that this is possible as Indesign only seems to allow you to import each element once. Maybe you could correct me here...
I am happy to invest a certain amount of time in developing this approach as once it is in place, it will save a huge of proof-reading time year after year, especially as inconsistencies still persist despite our best efforts to weed them out.
If you could let me know your thoughts on this and maybe identify a tutorial that would help me, I would be extremely grateful.
    Thanks again!

  • Best practice from illustrator to indesign

So im a student and Im just figuring things out...
what is the best practice of importing from illustrator to indesign?
    making an eps file?
what is an eps file? is it editable in indesign or illustrator?
    thanks

Actually, in the general case, Adobe Illustrator is absolutely not a general purpose EPS editor. Adobe Illustrator is capable of fully and properly editing only EPS files saved from the current or earlier versions of Adobe Illustrator and even then, you must have any and all fonts referenced by the EPS file, even if the font is embedded in the EPS file, installed on your computer system. Adobe Illustrator's imaging model is a subset of Adobe PostScript and as such, opening an EPS file generated by any software other than the current or earlier version of Adobe Illustrator may yield corrupted, modified, or otherwise incorrect results and this is especially true if the EPS references more than one color space. This includes EPS saved or exported from Acrobat and InDesign.

  • Best way to do document covers -- Illustrator or Indesign?

I work on an academic journal that's relatively simple -- no bleeds on the inside, mostly black and white text and illustrations, with a perfect-binding (paper-back-book style spine). I also now design the covers, which are identical for each issue except for the issue number and date on the front and the spine, and a picture in a box on the front cover. There's a background color over the entire cover that bleeds off all edges. I've been doing the cover layout in Illustrator, since I need to do the front, back, and spine in one piece, and since the width of the spine changes based on the page count, and I wouldn't know how to do this easily in Indesign. But I also need to produce single-page PDFs of the front and back covers without the spine, and making these in Illustrator is awkward -- I can do it using the Print Tiling Tool and printing PDFs, but the Print Tiling tool doesn't snap to the page borders, so it's not as accurate as I'd like. I'd also like to see if I can set up the issue number and date as cross references so they'll automatically update each month, which is something I'd have to do in Indesign.
What's the best way to design the front and back cover in Indesign and import to Illustrator to unite them and add the spine? I'm a little worried about seeing borders between the background color of the covers (made in Indesign) and the spine (made in Illustrator). Any advice appreciated...
    Rodney

I do the reverse: front and back covers + spine (with bleed) in 1 spread, and then place that document (cropped to trim) into my single-page layout when generating a low-res PDF of whole book: placed once on front cover, and once on back.

  • Import live objects from Illustrator to InDesign

Hi, I want to import objecs from Illustrator to InDesign. However, I need live objects (including e.g. texts, styles, swatches). Currently, I know only two possibilities:
    1. copy in AI and paste in ID. This will copy the objects but e.g. text is broken into curves, no styles are copied.
    2. place AI document. This way I cannot modify the document in ID (I have to go back to AI), I also cannot use the text styles from the original document for other texts created directly in ID
Is there any other possibility? In reality I don't need to do the import via GUI. If I can make a plugin or script for this it would be enough. I have experience with creating plugins for AI but ID is very different internally. I have studied the SDK but I still did not find any possibility how to import the data.
    can anybody help me? thanks.

Sorry, but you've already discovered all there is.

  • Can I have a decreased / cheaper monthly priced membership for some time, by keeping active only Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, InDesign CC and Acrobat?

Hello, and good evening from Athens, Greece.
I would like to ask a question concerning my CC membership.
I’ve started 1 and a half year ago by paying 29,99 € for the entire CC (all programs). Now, it’s 49,99 € and I’m having a really difficult time to keep it this way. I’m living in a country which is in the middle of crisis and my profession as a graphic designer, is not an exception to reduced spendings on advertising.
My question is, can I have a decreased / cheaper monthly priced membership for some time, by keeping active only Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, InDesign CC and Acrobat? I don’t need for now the other apps. Can I have a membership plan only for those applications? I would very much appreciate your respond, a help and a solution to my issue.
    Thank you very much.
    Michael.
P.S. Forgot to tell, that I have a purchased Design Standard CS3 Suite. If this helps.

No... there is a special Photography plan

InDesign CS6 is not optimized for retina displays. You’ll need to move to Creative Cloud for retina compatibility.

  • Image editing in InDesign (copy and paste from Illustrator)

    Hi
I have a scenario and I hope someone can clarify:
I work on a Mac using Adobe Illustrator & Indesign CS4. Whenever I copy and paste/drag an image from illustrator to Indesign, that particular graphic is uneditable in InDesign, and that is ok.  I want it like that for the clerk/typists to use in their InDesign files.
However, on a PC with Vista, when the graphic is copied and pasted/dragged from illustrator to indesign, that graphic becomes editable using the direct selection tool in InDesign.  What I want to know is if there is way to turn this off on the PC version like on a mac?
    thank you in advance
    Dee

    Hi,
maybe the difference lies with the way Illustrator pastes the images.
Here with my trusty CS3 in the "File and clipboard preferences" (translated from the french) I have a choice of exporting the clipboard in PDF or AICB.
If I understand your message I would guess that the Mac exports as PDF and Vista exports as AICB.
A check of the preferences could help with that,
    good luck.

  • Can i copy text from illustrator to indesign and retain attributes

    Hello,
I received an illustrator cs3 file that I need to convert to InDesign cs3.
Is there a way to copy the type that is set in illustrator to indesign, while retaining the attributes. I need to be able to make changes on the type in indesign, so converting type to outlines isn't an option.
    Thanks!
    T

Even though you can change your InDesign preferences for Clipboard Handling to allow formatted information to be pasted into InDesign from other programs, unfortunately Illustrator still won't allow you paste in text with formatting. This is due to how Illustrator and InDesign handle text differently. Even if you copy the text from Illustrator and paste it into a program like Word, which has a lot of different ways to handle formatted text, Illustrator just treats text differently than other Adobe applications.

  • About Word 8 and importing into InDesign

    Hi,
I have been using Word 8 to write the first draft of a book which I then "place" into Indesign for more elaborate page work.
There is one thing that does not work well for me and perhaps there is a solution to that,
    Here it is:
In the work I have a rather large number of images with text wrapping neatly around them.
When I import them they all break and there is no more wrapped text.
I know how to fix this manually but there might be a way of avoiding this.  Do you know of any?
Perhaps there is one set of text wrapping which works well for both programs?
    Thanks
    Serge

The way that word wrap and image-positioning works in Word is so different from the way that it works in InDesign that the image wraps will never be identical if all you're doing is placing the Word file.
In the translation firm where I work, I've placed thousands of Word files into InDesign. I've handled every single kind of Word formatting that there is. Maybe I can help you figure out how to change your Word file structure to improve the import, but not unless I know exactly what you're doing. There are third-party tools that let you roundtrip text back and forth from Word to Indesign and back; maybe something like that would help you out.
But if what you're trying to do is "I made it look the way I want in Word, and now I want it to look exactly the same in InDesign," then the answer is Never In This World.

  • Is there a Tool or function (in Illustrator or InDesign) that selects any shape and "punches" a "hole" of that shape all the way down through multiple objects to the paper or artboard?

Is there a Tool or function (in Illustrator or InDesign) that selects any shape and “punches” a “hole” of that shape all the way down through multiple objects to the paper or artboard?

In Illustrator, group the objects that you want to punch through, and use the transparency pallet.

  • Why is update of illustrator cc, indesign cc and dreamweaver proposed while I have only CS6 for those and Photoshop in CC as a license ?

I have the CC programme for photographer so only Bridge, Photoshop and LR
    I had CS6 designer premium so I have still Illustrator CS6,indesign CS6, dreameaver CS6
Since the new cc 2014 I am proposed each time a upgrade to Illustrator cc instead of a trial before
If I upgrade will I need to pay more, is that a free upgrade ? or can I get rid of these upgrade proposals?

TRial are normally in the below section and mentioned as such
how can i get rid of this intrusive "update" request
