"Mode not supported" when connecting MacBook Pro to HDTV

When I connect my MacBook Pro to the SAMSUNG widescreen HDTV and hit "Detect Displays", it does detect it as VGA Display and it gives me a bunch of options for resolutions and refresh rates, but there was no "Options" tab where I could check or uncheck "Overscan" and even keeping the refresh rate at 60 Hz, and even trying mirrored and non-mirrored screens, nothing worked. It still said "Mode not supported". I used a dual-link DVI to YPbPr cable which I just bought and my friend can connect his MacBook Pro to his HDTV with the same cable, but it doesn't seem to work for me. What's wrong?

Try using an app like to get the stranince resolution:

How do I get audio from the TV when connecting MacBook Pro with all the correct cables?

    Hi Lynn,
If you're positive you have the correct cables, and positive they work, they must be plugged into an input on the TV made for that purpose, then that input must be selected on the TV's menu.

  • HT3887 why does my iPhone say device not supported when connecting to my make even after it has successfully paired?

why does my iphone say device not supported when connecting to my mac pro, even though it has already succesfuly paired? I also use a wirless bluetooth keyboard and mouse on the computer successfully.
Also when I turn Bluetooth on on the phone the devices cog never stops turning (forever serching for a device)

iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer.
It couldn't be much easier than that as you don't actually have to do anything more than normal.
This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
USB syncing is far faster than Bluetooth.

  • Mode not supported when trying to connect mac to tv

I'm trying to connect my Mac to the TV as I do nearly every day using my HDMI cable via the apple HDMI adaptor (don't know exactly what that cable is called). But when I try it cuts in and out in fuzziness for a bit then eventually comes up with the error message on my tv "mode not supported". I can't see any visible faults in the cables at all. Do I need to replace one or both of the cables? Or is there something else wrong? If it's the cables, how do I figure which needs replacing without having to buy both if it's only one of them? Help!

  • "Mode not supported", when try to connect to TV

When I try to connect my Lenovo T440s to my TV using VGA cable, I get a "Mode not supported" message on the television screen and the laptop screen goes black.  Some points that may make it easier to troubleshoot: 1.  I was able to connect to this laptop successfully to this TV on prior occasions.  2. I am able to connect this laptop to an external monitor in my office successfully 3. I am able to connect other computers to this TV successfully.  So what could it be?  Any thoughts?

  • Flicker when connecting Macbook Pro to LG 20in LCD

    Hi all
When I connect my Macbook Pro to my LG 20in LCD (L204WT) I get a flicker on the LCD panel. I've tried the following which all work (i.e. no flicker on the external panel):
    * connecting the LG to my Powerbook G4
    * connecting the MBP to a Viewsonic 20in monitor
    * connecting the MBP to the LG via VGA (d-sub) - although the display seems to be less sharp than I'm used to
I've used 2 sets of DVI cables, but to no avail. It's only the LG-DVI-MBP combination that does not work.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

I selected and tryied all of my tv's hdmi ports and is the same.
    What can i do?
    Thanks.

First, mini-DVI adapters are used in MBP's that predate the ones covered in this forum. Nevertheless, there could be any number of issues, the most important of which is you need to go to System Preferences>Displays, and make certain you've set up dual displays in Arrangements.
Also, remember, in your MBP sound is not transferred through the mini-DVI port. You need to set up sound via a digital TOSlink cable from the MBP to your entertainment system.
Finally, some iTunes movies have DRM restrictions that will block the video from going to your TV.

  • Static Sound When Connecting Macbook Pro to Thunderbolt Display

Every so often when I connect my late 2013 Retina 15-inch Macbook Pro to my Thunderbolt Display it will product static for about three seconds, it sounds like a wave since the volume increases and then decreases.  I've searched the forums and am just curious if this is a known issue.  It's very odd.

It sounds like you're already using the best way. The Thunderbolt port is also a Mini DisplayPort, so you're connecting it DisplayPort to DisplayPort. The reason that is the best way is most other cables, including HDMI in my experience, will not reach the 2560x1440 resolution. (HDMI will probably drive that monitor at 1080p, or only 1920x1080.)
If DVI were to be used, it would have to be the expensive Dual-Link DVI because regular old Single Link DVI isn't capable of 2560x1440. It's a good thing the MacBook has Mini DisplayPort on it instead of DVI (like the older Apple laptops did) because DisplayPort cables are far cheaper than Dual-Link DVI adapters.
You can't do better than the connection you're already using.

  • IPhone5 rejects does not support my new MacBook Pro

My new MacBook Pro on 10.8.4 established bluetooth contact with my iPhone5, but the phone said it does not support my MacBook Pro. Why?

    Dear snozdop
After 38 years with computers and programming I suddenly realize that my thoughts are not functioning in the rational way they used to behave. Things you have done as a regular habit for many years could suddenly be forgotten…
Thank you for advising me and putting me back on the track that I should have been on from the beginning this rainy early morning way up north of the arctic circle.
It also remindes me of a rule I made myself many years ago when programming: Some times it is wiser to put away the computer for a while and then in time the answers to problems will come.
Thank you again for spending time advising me of the obvious solution.

  • OS X Mountain Lion is not supported on my MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro is not supported by OS X Mountain Lion, but General Requirements are satisfied in my machine. So, I can't download OS X Mountain Lion from AppStore, but I want to buy it and install it on my MacBook Pro. How can I get it?

I have 2 Apple Macs, a Mac book purchased 2007 and a Mac pro G5 build year 2006 both running Leopard last year upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Due to various reasons I didn't get organised to upgrade to v10.7 (Lion) until early July but I noticed the next version was about to be released and I could upgrade from v10.6 (Snow Leopard) to v10.8 (Mountain Lion) so ok I can skip Lion.
I now find Mountain Lion will not run on either of my computers Apple tech support said sorry the architecture was changed around 2008 (no publicity about that) but I could upgrade to v10.7 (Lion) and still get some improvement.
My problem is could not find where to purchase Lion which is only available as a download, it had been replaced by Mountain Lion. When I Contacted Apple sales they informed me that lion is no longer available, advised me upgrade my computers!!
why can't I get Lion it was until mid July ?
Older Software released prior to Jan 1,1998 in the US and worldwide is available

  • IPod says "FireWire not supported" when connecting with a USB cable

Hello all. First post ever. I am trying to connect my Nano (1 gig) to my Windows Vista. (This use to work flawlessly) Whenever I try to connect my iPod to my computer via a USB cable, it says "FireWire connections are not supported please use USB cable provided blah blah..." It is strange because I have never used anything but a USB cable with my iPod. I've tried everything, resetting via Menu + select, putting it in Disk mode. Seperate PC's including an XP PC. Anyone ever had this happen to them? Please help!!
    Thank you,
    Ben Roughan

This message appears to be a hardware issue, and cannot be fixed; the iPod likely needs to be replaced.

  • Sleep mode not working properly on Macbook Pro

On my Macbook Pro everytime my mac enters sleep mode just the display goes to sleep never the system even after 8 hours. Checked the energy saver setting both display and computer are set to ten minutes. I can also never get the display to wake back up unless i do a hard reset. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does it now work only on battery? or using the power supply?
If only on the power supply use a grounded plug.
Otherwise try reseating touchpad cable. Post the size and year of your MBP.

  • Uk User - What do I need to do to connect MacBook Pro to HDTV?

    Hi folks.
I know this has been asked before by US users - but if anyone in the UK can help out (unless it's a universal answer?)
Would love to hook up my Macbook Pro (bought Dec 2010 - Mac OS x 10.6.6) to my Panasonic TH37PX80B TV -
Can anyone explain all of the cables I would need - Google is a minefield of info that I have swallowed up valuable hours with trying to trawl through so I'd appreciate some guidance on this
Do I need separate audio connection leads too?
    Many thanks in advance

There is indeed a lot of confusing information out there. It's largely because some MBPs output audio through their mini-Displayports and others don't. What you need to do depends on the *Model Identifier* of your MBP, which you'll find in System Profiler > Hardware Overview. If the M.I. is 6,1 or higher, you do get an audio signal from your mini-Displayport, and a simple mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter will deliver it to the TV set — but only the adapter you buy is explicitly advertised as supporting that signal. Buy and adapter whose packaging says nothing about audio, and you'll almost certainly get no audio at the TV set.
If your machine's M.I. is lower than 6,1 but it has a mini-Displayport, you can use an adapter like the ones linked below to combine an audio signal form the headphone port or a USB port with the video signal and feed both of them into an HDMI cable.

  • SB Live Value!(Ct4780) not detected when connected--WinXP Pro--Dell Dimension XPS T8

heya, i recently went down to the US Virgin Island to work on my cousins charter yacht as first mate(from Jan '05 - Aug '05). Anyways getting back on topic, I come home to my desktop PC the way I left it with the case always off because i lost many of the screws for the PCI slots and i would frequently need to reseat the cards; and because i frequently would mess around with an ultra66controller trying to get it to work. now when i got back i booted up my pc and did a quick checkup(devmgmt.msc, msinfo32, services.msc, etc) and for some reason my sound card is not detected. sound & audio devices in the control panel listed no audio device. There is no listing of anything related to the card in sound, video & game ctls.(no WDM compatible entry or anything). I tried to change the PCI slot of the card, but each time to no avail. i am thinking it has something to do with the integrated BIOS sound, or this old Yamaha driver for Dell(i was messing around with an old resource cd and i think i may have installed it a few weeks to a month ago, my memory is blurred thanks to some xanax that night so im not sure if i did. anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Does the BIOS detect the card? depending on the mboard you do sometimes get a summary of all PCI devices in the system so I'd be checking here to see if it is appearing. After that I'd be checking another computer to see if the card has failed.
If the card passes onother system then there may be a problem with the BIOS NVRAM - some sort of problem that is preventing the card from being detected. Resetting the NVRAM (usually involves moving a jumper on the board) and then restarting after the reset can sometimes do the trick. This is a last step though and I'd suggest verify the card is actually working.
    Hope this hel
    ps.
