Model 3000 N100 - Machine Serial Number is Unknown in Lenovo Care

Hi,
My mainboard was warranty replaced earlier this week.  Since then,  Lenovo Care shows an unknown Machine Serial Number in Lenovo Quick Links (System Information) and the Advanced tab.  The correct serial number and machine type is displayed in the BIOS.
Thank you in advance.

Nilesh
I bought a used N100 and did a total upgrade.
CPU, memory, HD, new screen, new battery.
I regret it! I should have bought new, as it cost
me the same or more as new. I just got carried away.
I did the upgrades myself, so no cost for "service".
All parts were bought on ebay or newegg.
Cost from Lenovo would be MUCH more.
I do not know how much new laptops cost in your area,
but I recommend you buy new, or limit your upgrade
to only what you need most.

  • Matching Machine Serial Number to a Asset Tag

Is there a way to take the machine Serial Number (From System Profiler possiblely) and match it to a file that has Serial Numbers and Asset Tags from a inventory database?
    1. Define Serial Number through System Profiler
    2. Scan File with Serial Numbers and Asset Tags which are tied together.
    3. Once match is made the Asset Tag is known
    3. Make the Asset Tag a environment variable.
    G4 1.42   Mac OS X (10.3.5)

You don't define the format of the file that contains asset numbers and serial numbers (and I think the 'tie together' is making it sound harder than it is.
    In any case:
    1. Define Serial Number through System Profiler
system_profiler will tell you this. You can ask for the specific hardware information, then parse out the serial number, like:
    /usr/sbin/system_profiler SPHardwareDataType | awk '/Serial/ { print $3}'
    2. Scan File with Serial Numbers and Asset Tags which are tied together.
Without knowing this file format it's impossible to tell how to do this for sure, but if the file was a simple tab-delimited file of asset number<tab>serial number, then:
    awk '/<serial_number>/ {print $1}' /path/to/asset_file
You can now string the two together, like:
    #! /bin/sh
    SERIAL=`/usr/sbin/system_profiler SPHardwareDataType | awk '/Serial/ { print $3 }'`
    echo "Found serial number ${SERIAL}"
    ASSETNO=`/usr/bin/awk "/${SERIAL}/ { print \\$1 }" /var/tmp/assets`
    echo "Found asset number $ASSETNO"
    export ASSETNO
Note the user of double-backslashes in the second awk to overcome shell expansion issues.

  • My MacBook Air's Serial Number Says "Unknown"

My mac book airs serial number says unknown and i believe it is the reason why i can not activate iMessage or FaceTime how do i fix it i can get an appointment in the Apple Store

Have  you had the main board replaced?  This happened to me a few years back and it was due to the fact that Apple replaced the main board and did not input the serial number.  You must have that number in order to log in.

  • Serial Number not accepted by Lenovo Support/Warranty Lookup

Trying to e-mail support about my G505s but it will not accept my SN as valid despite the fact I bought it from a reputable retailer. Lenovo Solutions can't access my warranty information, either. Help?

    hi Wonk,
Got your PM. It's odd that there's no info on your machines' serial number but the message Multiple devices found - Please enter Machine Type Information on the warranty lookup page may indicate that the serial number hasn't been registered on the system yet. This usually happens if the unit is brand new or refurbished (indicated by the letters RF on the machine type (eg. 59RF0637)).
If you purchased the system in the UK, I recommend you fill up the form below to register the system and contact the lenovo support center and report the issue.

  • G5 System Wont display the machine serial number.

i just bought a referbished G5 dual 2.0 ghz. and the "about this mac" window wont display serial number. i even downloaded tools like "OnyX" to display system info. the srial number stays blank. it also does this in the system profiler. what do i do? and how do i get serial number in the software?

    Hi ijny9956,
If the machine is refurbished, it may have had its logic board replaced post-manufacture. When logic boards are replaced, they usually do not have the serial number re-programmed into them. Apple have a utility to do so, but it seems they do not distribute it. (Except they leave it in repaired systems sometimes - http://lists.apple.com/archives/Darwin-userlevel/2005/Mar/msg00005.html )
You can find out the serial number of your system by opening the case side and looking at the bottom of the case.

  • Machine Serial Number

    Hi,
I would like to programmatically find the Serial Number of a Sun Solaris box. I know it was not possible earlier but am curious if Sun has added any new command/tool to find out the serial number of a machine.
Is there any roundabout way of finding it?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nimish

Some of the new Sun hardware has machine-readable serial numbers, but they generally are not (yet) easy to access. Most of them are available on the System Controller or from the ALOM (Advanced Lights-Out Management). Some have it in the FRUID data from prtfru.
There is a new tool from Sun called "SNEEP" (Serial Number in EEPROM) which, once you have the serial number, will make it easy to get to when you need it, and will keep serial (and other) data safe .
It's very easy to use and very flexible for storing and retrieving serial and other data that you want to associate closely and permanently with the hardware. [ asset information, location, contract,  serials for attached storage, whatever you want ]
You can download sneep from the Sun Download Center at http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=4304155a
Documentation is also available for download there.
Sneep provides a simple interface, preserves the data even if the eeprom is erased, and even updates the serial number for you in the explorer configuration.
If you've already made the effort of putting the serial into the explorer (or CST) configuration, sneep will pick it up from there automatically.
Right now, sneep doesn't have access to the serial data in the ALOM or SC, but sneep will be updated to pick up this information whenever possible, so that you can use the same mechanism to handle serial and other information on all your Sun systems.
It runs on SPARC and x86, and although the x86 doesn't have a true EEPROM, it still has a lot of value. Solaris x86 is getting support for reading the serial from BIOS, but not all manufacturers provide the data to the BIOS.
At worst case, you enter it manually once, and sneep will protect it and keep it handy.

I'm dying to find out what Apple sent me as my warraty claim, for my iPhone 5. I have heard of many people of late getting the 5s in place of their 5 when they have a warranty claim.

    Hi Sudhir,
In VL02N go to <b>Menu path Extras > Serial number</b>.  This will cause the Maintain Serial Numbers pop-up box to appear.  Enter the serial number in the Serial number field.  Click Enter

  • NEED HELP! G550 Serial Number rejected when attempting to obtain parts

I have a G550 that I need a speaker/headphone jack to replace the worn out one in the unit.  My problem is that no matter how I enter the serial number and model type, I cannot access the parts lookup. Apparently when this model was made, the folks on the assembly line did not put the complete serial number on the bottom of the unit.  Nor did they put the correct Model/Type there either.  At least not entries that are on the invoice for when we purchased it, nor in the BIOS listing.
I need to obtain this part soon to put this machine back in place.  Here is what I have:
Model/Type on bottom of laptop: 2958-PRC4
    Model/Type on invoice/BIOS: 2958-9PU
Serial Number on bottom of laptop: CB********
    Serial Number on invoice/BIOS: 1S295*****-BU27*****
I can see where the long version of the serial number is merely a congolmeration of the model/type and the serial number on the bottom of the laptop.
What is so frustrating is that I had connected with Lenovo on chat and that was a very displeasing experience with a less-than-splendid person on the Lenovo end.   I contacted Lenovo phone support and apparently got a person who got out of bed on the same side as the chat person did and that was a much less-than-splendid experience.  I am hoping there is someone on this forum or someone from Lenovo who reads this and can help me.!

  • Obtaining serial number of stolen iPhone

My iphone 5 was stolen while on holiday.
Unfortunately the find my iphone was not activated and I am trying to get the serial number.
The only place I can find the device registered is in icloud.com under icloud-settings-my devices, BUT only the last 5 characters are displayed.
How can I get the full serial number from here?
I have also tried getting the serial number via iTunes but here only the device name is identified.
I am going in circles with Apple support, as each time it asks me for the serial number of the device, which I obviously don't have!
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hello AMurrayPerth,
I'm sorry to hear about your iPhone being stolen. If you no longer have access to an iPhone and need to get the serial number, and you have access to iTunes on a machine where the iPhone has been backed up, you may find the following helpful:
If you can use iTunes on your computer but don't have your device:
Go to iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (PC).
    Click the Devices tab.
Hold your mouse over a backup to display the serial number for that device. You'll also see the IMEI/MEID and CDN for your iPhone or iPad (cellular model).

  • T530 Serial Number?

I just recieved my T530 and am trying to fill out my warranty info, but can't seem to find my machine's serial number.  Is it located on the laptop?  Mine doesn't contain any stickers anywhere underneath... Should it?  Is there a way to get the machine serial number in windows or during boot?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have you taken a look in the battery compartment?  Some time ago they started putting the Windows COA stickers there, maybe now also the s/n sticker?
The s/n is also on the box and can be seen in BIOS, press F1 at boot, as the system unit serial number.  The first 7 digits/letters are the type and model number, the last 7 are the s/n.
Please DO NOT post your s/n in the forums.
    Hope this helps

  • How Do I Downgrade From Windows Vista To XP On A 3000 N100 Series Notebook?

Hello. Here is the problem. I have Windows Vista Pre-loaded on my 3000 N100 Notebook, absolutely dislike this operating system and want to erase and load Windows XP. From reading other forum messages I have learned several things.
    1) The install disk On Windows XP Home & Professional will not recognize Sata Hard Drives, when it reaches the point of loading where it looks for the hard drive it "BOMBS OUT" with error messages.
    Several options are open .............
    1) Log into the BIOS, locate the SATA option, and change to compatibility mode.
    2) Have a USB external floppy connected with a Sata Driver on it and when installing Windows XP press the "F6" button when Windows asks for any external drivers you want to load.
Here is the problem with the 3000 N100 Notebook series..........
1)There is "NO SATA OPTION" in the BIOS of the 3000 N100 series notebooks to choose. In this model Lenovo stripped the BIOS down to the bare essentials.......and I Do Mean.... "BARE". The latest BIOS upgrade also has no Sata option. Why they did not offer at least this choice of downgrading to XP is beyond me. LENOVO..... I'm not impressed with your notebook.  As usual.... Microsoft has all vendors jumping to their tune..... Nothing but "VISTA" at this point in time. What if you hate it??????
    2) I have hunted all over the Lenovo Web Site for a "SATA DRIVER" that would work with a 3000 N100 Notebook, no such critter exists.  LENOVO..... Couldn't you have at least offered this????  I'M NOT IMPRESSED.
Has anyone been able to downgrade to Windows XP successfully on a 3000 N100 Series Notebook??? How Did You Do It?? Has Anyone Located A "SATA DRIVER" That Works???  IF So, Please Explain To Me Step-By-Step How I Can Get Rid of Vista and Load XP.
    Help........Help.......Help........Help......Help!!!!!!!!!!!
    Regards

Hello Himleung. Thank you for answering this message. Where did you find a "Sata Hard Drive Driver" that works?? Perhaps you could pass that along to this message forum in case someone else that has a 3000 N100 (may also work with the N200 series) Notebook wants to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP.
This is what baffles me to no end. The Lenovo web site has every driver you need to load Windows XP on the notebook.....**EXCEPT**..... the Sata HD Driver......**OR**...... the ability in BIOS to change to "compatability mode".  Duh!!!..... whats wrong with this story. I have never seen such a weak BIOS as the one in the 3000 N100. If I had known this I probably would have gone to another brand. They should have advertised this notebook as...... "Non-Geek Compatible".
Not knowing exactly how you could forward the driver to me I did the following....... I created a new Web email location that you could use to send the driver as an email attachment. The address is....... [email protected] This address will exist just long enough to obtain the driver..... and then......"Hasta-La-Vista" baby......end of story......as I do not want to be bombarded with ads, trash, or perhaps a virus of some sort..... although.....I'm SURE we have GREAT PEOPLE on this message center.
I'm not familiar with the "NLITE" program you mentioned. Again....perhaps you could mention where I can get it and what I need to do to set the program up to run the driver.
    Thanks again, Himleung.
    Regards,
    Train500
