Model creation versy slow...

Hi,
I am currently trying to use the Migration Workbench with an Informix DB.
I successfully managed to capture the model (offline), this was quite slow, but now that I have started creating the Oracle model, it seems to be taking forever. Indeed, for some tables, it takes up to 45 min to create the model. On average, it takes a minute or so, but with all those that take 45, it looks like it's never going to finish! The thing is, those tables aren't what I would call complex...
The target repository is an Oracle 8.1.7 hosted on a Win2K server that pings in less than 10ms.
Has anyone got an idea as to what is going on?
Thanks.
Regards,
Phil

  • Mapping in VC Model creation

    Hi GLM,
Can you guide in VC model creation for mapping the data between SD_DOC to the SALESDOCUMENT field. Actually i am not getting
If not already displayed, open the Configure Element task panel and click the select line to the Inputport of Sales orderGetstatus. As you can see in the table at the bottom of the task panel, the SALESDOCUMENT field of the Salesorder Getstatus data service must receive data from the table. To map the data, assign @SD_DOC to the SALESDOCUMENT field, by clicking on the fx column and choosing it from the drop-down list (you will need to scroll down in the list).

    got it.

  • Anyone know anything about transistor model creation?

Although it was rather difficult, I've managed to get what may be half decent parameters into a 2n3055 model I'm trying to build. (I can never find the famous ".cir" model for anything.)  The main place where I had zilch was input capacitance.  So, since I started with the 2n2222's numbers, I just left them there.
I droped the "component" in a simple circuit, but clearly my pin mapping is hosed up.  Hence, this leads to my first question.
I do not understand what "q%p %tB %tC %tE %m"  is or how it maps to my symbol (an NPN transistor).  Does anyone out there have a clue?
And yes, before you say it to me, yes, yes, yes, I did do the tutorial that had me follow the bouncing ball and create a programmable gain amp being promoted by Texas Instruments.  But what does it do for me in trying to build a well-known transistor's model??
Also, as I briefly mentioned before, does anyone out there know where this great repository of *.cir models is?  One would think that as common as a 2n3055 is, there most certainly is a 2n3055.cir out there somewhere, but I haven't found it.
Incidentally, I've found these, but I haven't a clue as to how to make them work for me:

I guess what I'm asking is has anyone out there successfully taken a NON *.cir definition and created a fairly well working transistor model, and will that person please be so kind as to help me to understand how to do it for myself?
I swear NI/Multisim are shooting themselves in the foot by not making user requested Multisim models available for a fee.  They'd make soooo much money.  Moreover, by only offering a scant few models, maybe, just maybe, their starting software price might be affordable to, oh, most people who can't access corporate funding.
I swear I'll pay a flat fee of $20 to anyone who will sell me a working Multisim model for any discrete component when I need it.  One of the biggest hurdles of Multisim is producing functioning models.  There is a tremendous business opportunity in producing working Multisim models, and it is only a matter of time until some entrepreneur out there cashes in on it.  If NI/Multisim doesn't have the brains to figure this out, I'll bet somebody else out there does. For I have yet to have a model from a manufacturer work in Multisim, much less painlessly be transferred into it. This 2n3055/2955 modelwas tried by me nearly a year ago, but I eventually had to give up. ...and yes, I contacted technical support. Oh boy was that a bad move! ...but that's a story for another time.

I am only going to make one comment and I will leave the rest to someone with more experience on the model creation end of things. I am interested in that as much as you are since I have tried and and just couldn't figure it out and finally gave up on it.
My comment is about the model making business as you describe it. There are companies out there that already provide this service. I do not know what prices they charge for their services, but a Google search will pop up quite of few of them. A person would have to check on pricing and all the rest of the details concerning this, but they are out there.
I want to add that Multisim used to have a partnership with Edaparts.com to supply model information and footprints for free. When Edaparts became a portion of Partsminer.com this freebie ended and they now charge a subscription fee for this service. That really fudged things up in my opinion. Anyway, I thought I would let you know this if you didn't already and maybe you might be interested in checking it out.

  • Why index creation is slower on the new server?

    Hi there,
Here is a bit of background/env info:
Existing prod server (physical): Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
    RAM: 96GB
    CPUs: 8
    RHEL 5.8 64bit
    Database size around 2TB
    New server:
VMWare VM with Oracle 10gR2 10.2.0.5.8 on ASM
    RAM 128GB
    vCPUs: 16
    RHEL 5.8 64bit
Copy of prod DB (from above server) - all init param are the same
I noticed that Index creation is slower on this server. I ran following query:
    SELECT name c1, cnt c2, DECODE (total, 0, 0, ROUND (cnt * 100 / total)) c3
FROM (SELECT name, VALUE cnt, (SUM (VALUE) OVER ()) total
              FROM v$sysstat
             WHERE name LIKE 'workarea exec%')
    C1
    C2
    C3
    workarea executions - optimal
    100427285
    100
    workarea executions - onepass
    2427
    0
    workarea executions - multipass
    0
    0
Following bitmap index takes around 40mins in prod server while it takes around 2Hrs on the VM.
    CREATE BITMAP INDEX MY_IDX ON
    MY_HIST(PROD_YN)  TABLESPACE TS_IDX PCTFREE 10
    STORAGE(INITIAL 12582912 NEXT 12582912 PCTINCREASE 0 ) NOLOGGING
This index is created during a batch-process and the dev team is complaining of slowness of the batch on new server. I have found this one statement responsible for some of the grief. There may be more and I am investigating.
I know that adding "parallel" option may speedup but I want find out why is it slow on the new server.
I tried creating a simple index on a large table and it took 2min in prod and 3.5min on this VM. So I guess index creation is slower on this VM in general. DMLs (select/insert/delete/update) seem to work with better elapsed time.
Any clues what might be causing this slowness in index creation?
    Best regards

I have been told that the SAN in use by the VM has capacity of 10K IOPS. Not sure of this info helps. I don't know more than this about the storage.
What else do I need to find out? Please let me know - I'll check with my Sys Admin and update the thread.

  • Photoshop CS4, 3D Model Creation help

    Hello,
I am a video editor and have the Adobe CS4 suite.
I would like to ask the community for the best and easiest way to achieve this:
    - Create 3D text for end use in After Effects
    - Take an Illustrator file like a Logo and extrude it to make a 3D model for use in After effects
It seems 3D programs have so many options that simple tasks are way more involved than I have time for.
I just want to take a client supplied logo or some text, give it some depth and use it in After Effects as a 3D object.
I have seen a plugin for Photoshop from Strata that might be a good option, but I only looked at their website.
Thanks for your help and input.

While I will say that what the OP wants isn't do able in Photoshop. You can
doing it using Illustrator and Photoshop, but not Photoshop alone. However,
Jim isn't 100% correct either. Photoshop does have some limited 3D creation
capabilities. One of which is turning a flat photo of say the Grand Canyon
in to a 3D plane that one can then move through in 3D space. You can also
mape flat photos to simple 3D objects like spheres, etc.
However, Jim is also correct that Photoshop isn't like Maya, etc. it doesn't
create complex 3D models and things like that. It is more to complement
    applications like Maya, etc.
BTW if you would like to see the photo to 3D plane feature in action take a
    look at:

It is actually a pretty cool option.

  • Web Application Creation Speed Slowing

Hi all, thanks for any help with this. We found an issue with our SharePoint 2013 farm and I'm hoping someone can tell me if this is expected behavior or not.
First some background, our company sells several products and marketing wants different sites for each product ie. www.companyname.com, www.thingy1.com, www.thingy2.com, etc. In SharePoint we have been creating a separate web application for each domain.
We found that both bringing up the new web application dialog box and the overall creation time got slower and slower as we added more web applications. Here are some tests we did on a fresh system.
Test3   2 minutes: 40 seconds to create web application
    Test4
    2:58
    Test5
    3:20
    Test6
    3:40
    Test7
    3:58
    Test8
    4:25
    Test9
    4:56
    Test10
    5:38
    Test11
    6:15
Test12 lost track of time :)
At this point I increased memory from 12 to 20 GB
    Test13
    7:40
The reason I started testing this is that we have lab farm with 18 web applications and it takes about 35 minutes to create a new web application. So, is this expected in a system? If so, is there
a best practice to architect web applications other than this basic we we have been doing it?
Thanks for any help on this issue

  • Model creation

    Hi,
I had created an application which calls a RFC from a R/3 sever say XXX and uses WAS say YYYY. The application is working fine.
Now i need to give which R/3 server is the application  using in the runtime. can we do this?
For change a change in WAS in think we will have to change the jco connection and redeploy. Or is ther any other option.
Please let me know in detail
    Thanks n Regards,
    Mahesh K.

    Mahesh,
As Ananda says this is problematic with Adaptive RFC Model -- it is impossible to switch logical metadata system. Also you may switch logical data system you have to conform rule that both RFC destinations points to the same R/3 system!
What I advise you is to replace Adaptive RFC Model with SAP Enterprise Connector. It generates almost the same typed Java classes for accessing remote back-end. However, it does not create any dictionary artifacts (simple types, structures etc) and hence does not require logical data system. And you free to change "messageSpecifier", type JCO.Client, to whatever destination you need.
Note, that with SAP Enterprise Connector there is no notion of model and dictionary, so creation of context and necessary data types (along with labels, value helps, conversion exits) should be done manually

  • OWB Freezes at ORACLE Model creation.

I am in the process of migrating an ACCESS database to ORACLE. I followed the following steps:
    1. Create a new ACCESS database and import the database that I want to migrate to the new database.
    2. Compacting the new database as per document instruction.
    3. Some columns in the database tables have binary definitions.
    4. I changed these definitions to "text". Because ACCESS has not a BLOB or RAW definition.
    5. Then I created the XML file with the migration_exporter.
    6. Then I edited the XML file changing the text definitions of these particular files to ORACLE's "RAW" definitions.
    7. Then I create the source model.
    8. Then I create the ORACLE model.
    9. During this creation the OMW get stuck at the fourth table it attempts to convert.

    Hello,
You shouldn't be making any edits to the generated XML file, as is stated at the top of the file
<!-- Do not modify this file as any modification will invalidate the export and subsequent migration of your MS Access database -->
I would suggest that you attempt to migrate your database as is, without changing definitions as you specified in point 4. Once the XML file has been generated, don't edit it. Load the file into the Migration Workbench and then follow the wizard through to generate the Source Model and Oracle Model.
    I hope this helps.

  • Does adobe have a 3d model creation tool?

    Hello
My history is that i use fireworks and dreamweaver.
I am messing arround in after effects.
I would like to create similar objects like i can in fireworks only as 3d objects.
I am talking about creating shapes, extruding them into 3d space, applying styles and textures.
Only the result would be a 3d object that i could bring in to after effects where i can animate rotation and movement in 3d space or integrate it into an after effect project.
I assume that in after effects, i can create shadows from light sources so basically i want extruded text and shapes, perhaps with textures on them.
Maybe even with alpha transparency patterns painted onto their surfaces.
What about isllustrator? i have seen many cool 3d effects such as rotation and text extrusion.
Can these be exported as 3d objects that can be brought into after effects and placed in 3d space?
Or even photoshop? I think in photoshop, i can only use a small number of basic shapes.
    Thanks
    Jerry

You can import 3D models into After Effects if they are contained in a 3D object layer in a PSD file.
You can also use a third-party plug-in like Zaxwerks Invigorator to do exrtusions and sweeps. See this overview.
You can do some limited but very useful creation of 3D environments with Vanishing Point.

  • Encrypted disk image creation very slow-

I just got a new MBP with Leopard. I have created a number of encrypted disk images in the past using Tiger and a MBP and have not had any trouble. This weekend I tried a few times to create a 50 gig encrypted disk image (128 AES) on an external drive and after going through the process of setting it up and waiting for it to be created, (and watching the progress bar as it was being created), after about 45 minutes NO progress was showing on the progress bar. I ended up having to cancel the creation a few times because I thought something was going wrong. I’m not sure if there is a problem creating the disk image, or leopard is slow, or what.
Does anyone know how long, on average, it would take to create an encrypted disk image of this size using leopard? I just want to know if there is a problem doing this on my MBP. Thanks for the help.

A regular 50 GB disk image takes 50GB of space, no matter if it is full of files or empty.
A 50 GB sparse disk image only takes up the amount of space equivalent to that of its enclosed files. So if the 50GB sparse image only has 1 GB of files inside, the image won't be much bigger than 1GB.
A sparse bundle is similar to a sparse image, but instead of a single file it is a folder package with many, many enclosed files called bands. A new file added to the sparse bundle will tend to modify only a few bands. This makes incremental backups of a sparse bundle more efficient because only the changed bands need to be backed up again. Any change to a sparse or regular disk image will mean that the entire image will need to be backed up again.
If you regularly add/remove files to a disk image, and you intend to back up that disk image with Time Machine, a sparse bundle is definitely the way to go. The other types will fill up your TM volume very quickly.

  • Official release of data modeler is very slow on Linux (64bit)

I was testing the beta version on Linux (64bit) and it was fast (reverse engineering from database for example), but I found out the official release of the data modeler is slower compared to the Beta version. The same JDK version, the same Linux 64bit distro. Is there a memory leak with the official release ? Has any one else observed such sluggish performance with the official release of the data modeler ?
    thanx

By itself the buffer hit cache ratio is a meaningless statistic. It can in fact be a misleading indicator since it does not actually reflect application performance.
Tune the query. Make sure it is running as well as it can.
Then look at overall machine resources: average and peak cpu, memory, and IO loads.
If spare resources exist then considering more resources to the more important databases on the system.
Document any performance changes that occur after each change. It is possible for the database performance problem being latching, that is, shared pool access and you might need space in the shared pool more than the buffers. It depends on the application and user load.
Why are you using a 2K database block size? I would think 4k or 8k would probably be better even for a true OLTP with almost all access by index.
To get help on the query you will need to post it, the explain plan, and information on available indexes, table row counts, and perhaps column statistics for the indexed columns and filter conditions.

  • View creation very slow - not materialized view

I have a view creation script which is running in a fraction of a second in the dev environment but takes over an hour to run in the test environment.
The test environment is off-site, so I have no direct access to it. It does have a lot more data in than dev, but this is not a materialised view so as far as I understood it the amount of data in the system shouldn't affect the time to create the view.
I haven't been able to find any information on what can make this happen. In the development environment I can be querying the view (or can lock it directly), and am still able to run the CREATE OR REPLACE statement without any performance impact. The view does contain function calls and is created with the FORCE keyword, but I can't find any evidence that this should affect the speed of creation.
I am running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4.0) on Solaris in both dev and test environments.
Any ideas on what could be causing this are very welcome.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.
Trying the same thing without the FORCE keyword made no difference, the view still takes a long time to compile and there are no compilation errors.
On the development system, I have run a long-running query on the view and checked V$Access. This returns a record for the view, but I can still successfully run the CREATE OR REPLACE statement on the view in another session. This appears to show that a record in V$Access doesn't mean that the view can't be recompiled.
On the test system there are no other sessions connected and no records for the view in V$Access.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

  • Prob. connecting to the R/3 thru NDS's SAP Logon Info. while Model Creation

    Hi,
I'm trying to create an RFC model in webdynpro. In the SAP Logon information screen, I entered all the neccessary information on the Single Server Tab (host name, Sys. No., client, username, pwd., lang.). When I click on Next it throws an error message saying that the user name is not authorized. But I am able to login to the system through SAPGUI though with the same information. I'm unsure what the problem is. Could it be a firewall issue, service issue, any configuration I'm missing??? Please help me out!
    Thank You in advance,
    Ashwin

    hey Rich,
Thank you for the help. I know that was a very wierd problem. It's fixed now. What happened was that, we are running 2004s and I wasn't aware of the fact that you need NWDS 7.0 to support that. I was running 2.0.9. I just now installed 7.0.7 and the connection to the backened was established as smooth as a cheese cake. Neways, I just lost a fistful of hair in last couple of days. Hope this info helps somebody who encounters the same problem. Points are assigned to you for your effort though...
    Thank you again!!!

  • SQL*Modeler - creation of VARRAY or Collection Type of scalar type errors

In SQl*Modeler 2.0.0 Build 584, I can create either VARRAY or Collections. These work fine for usre defined structured types but I encounter huge problems when I use a simple scalar type of number or varchar2.
For instance I create a new collection type, give it a name, specify its a collection (or VARRAY, same problem) then click datatype. On the select Data type box I select logical type. A new window opens, I select VARCHAR from the drop down list.
Enter the size 15, everything appears fine. I click OK, the select data type screen now shows a logical type of VARCHAR(15).
So far I'm happy. I generate the DDL, everthing is fine, the DDL contains my collection of VARCHAR2(15).
Now I save the model, close it and re-open the same model. My collection is now of VARCHAR so the next time I generate it will get an error because the syntax is wrong because it has no length. Same problem happens when selecting a NUMBER, looses the precision and scale but at least that command still works, just with a maximum numeric value.
Ok, so lets try creating distinct types. Why we can't access domains when specifying types from here remains a mystery to me.
So I create a distinct type Varchar2_15 which is of Logical type VARCHAR and give it a size. Similarly, create another distinct type of NUMERIC_22_0 precision 22 scale 0. This seems to get around the problem of losing the data but the DDL generated shows the datatype to be either VARCHAR (not VARCHAR2) and NUMERIC(22), not number(22). Now I know that VARCHAR currently maps to VARCHAR2 but isn't guaranteed to in the future (even though its been like that since V6) and NUMERIC is just an alias for NUMBER but its going to confuse a lot of java people and its totally inconsitent and just plain wrong.
Any suggestions or workarounds will be gratefully received.
    Ian Bainbridge

    Hi Ian,
I see a bug in save/load of collection types and as result no size or precision and scale information. It's fixed in new release.
However I cannot reproduce the problem with distinct types - I have them generated as varchar2 and number (this is for Oracle).
    You can check:
    - database you use in DDL generation - I got varchar and numeric for MS SQL Server;
    - mapping of logical types VARCHAR and NUMERIC to native types in "Types Administration".
    Philip
PS - I was able to reproduce it - I looked at wrong place - DDL generation for collection types is broken - it's ok for columns. I logged bug for that.
