Model WRT54G2 V1

Had a secure network with my model wrt54g2 v1 router, then suddenly it's not showing up.  All I have is a unsecured Linksys way on to the Internet.  How can I get this back to my secure network?

It is a way of pushing fixes and updates from the manufacturer to your router. At times, it also resolves internal conflicts inside your routers ROM. If you are new to this, I suggest you read a lot about this process as it requires by the book understanding and procedure to accomplish this task.
If you confirm this is what your issue requires, you may start here.

  • Model WRT54G2

I just installed this model on my desktop and am getting internet fine (obviously, since I'm writing this) however, my laptop is not working.  At first it told me that I did not have the correct network settings for this network (I thought it might be because I had a DLink router installed previously).....now after being on the phone with support for an hour, and somehow the call got dropped, whatever they did, now it's not even recognizing my network on my laptop anymore.......ack.
If someone could help with 1) finding my network again and 2) finding out why it is not recognizing my network settings for the new network it would be much appreciated.

If the network settings does not match for your network on your Vista Laptop just change the wireless settings on your router...
To change the SSID/Network name follow this , to enable Wireless Security follow this
Now on your Vista Laptop make sure the Wireless Swicth is turned ON, also disable the Wireless Connection, wait for 10 seconds and Enable the Wireless Connection, now look for your wireless network and attempt to connect, it should ask you for the Password, enter your WEP Key/Network Key and click connect, it will connect...

  • Error Message 302 on Model: WRT54G2

Error Message simply states the following
    1.  Exit the Program.
    2.  Eject the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD.
    3.  Restart your computer.
    4.  Reinsert the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD.
Tried this multiple times now, and I keep getting the same error message.
I just upgraded my main computer to Windows 7 Ultimate, Internet works fine plugged into the original setup of wireless router, but wireless router refuses to allow anything like Laptops to connect.
Would anyone know what the problem is?
I appreciate any advice in advance.

Probably the setup wizard on the CD is not compatible with Windows 7. Read the user guide for your router on the CD and then configure the router using the web interface at http://192.168.1.1/ You can configure everything through the web interface.

  • How to install firmware upgrage (WRT54G2 v1)

I have Linksys model WRT54G2 v1, firmware 1.0.01. I have not changed any of the default settings (except at the Wireless tab, I have selected Disable -- two computers use the router, both are connected by cables, so I do not use the wireless capability). I have downloaded the file FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.03.001_US_20090317.bin from this Linksys website. The file is on my Desktop now. My question: What do I do next? How do I install the upgrade? The release notes say only “Disconnect all wireless clients  …”. I can't find anything about upgrading firmware at the router's admin page (192.168.1.1). I don’t know how to run a file with the extension "bin". Thanks.

  • How to disable wireless on wrt54g2?

I have a Linksys router model wrt54g2 v1. My operating system is Windows XP Pro. The router works fine. When I ran setup the first time, I opted to enable wireless (Wi-Fi). However, the computers using the router are all cable-connected to the router, so I do not need the wireless capability. My question: How do I now disable wireless? Do I need to run the CD “Start Setup” process once again? The control panel does not seem to offer any configuration options. I have posted a screen capture of the control panel at http://64.33.7.192/linksys.gif. (I tried without success to post this question at the support Live Chat.) Thanks for your help.

    What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
    Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
    Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
    Enable phishing and malware protection

  • Problem With router related to mIRC?

    Hi Everyone,
I am having problem with my router (model = WRT54G2 and version = 1) related to mirc, the problem is that whenever i recieve or try to send someone a code something like this I'm a QUEER?DCC SEND "gay???g?" 0 0 0 i get dc. First i thought that it's some problem with mIRc so i went into their help community and asked them but one of their guys said that it's not mIRC's problem it's some problem with my router and he gaved me two solutions:
There are really only 2 real solutions:
    1. get another router or update your router's fimware
    2. (if the network supports it) connect with SSL to the IRC server. This encrypts text between the server and mIRC and your router will be unable to read the contents of the packets coming from the IRC server
i tried the 2nd one and it worked i dont get dc anymore but the problem is that only 5-6 servers on mirc support ssl so it cant be possible and as far as the first option is concerned i tried to upgrade my firm but it didn't helped me the problem is still there so if you guys can find me a way i will be really thankful to ya cos i dont wanna buy a new router now....Thanks.
NOTE: in case you dont believe me that i had help from mirc support forum you can check out this link: http://trout.snt.utwente.nl/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=212660&page=1#Post212660
NOTE#2: i have tried connecting to mirc without my router with direct net and that code doesn't works when i stay connected with direct net.

well i cant go for SSL cos the servers on mIRC which are supporting SSL are a bit lame , i want this problem to be fixed and as far as resetting is concerned why to reset after firmware upgrade? do we have to do it?

  • Linksys help.  Already tried to search forums.  AirPort 'on', full signal strength but cannot connect to internet.  PC, iphone, ipad all connect fine.  Any ideas?

So I have been using my imac for 15 months.  Never had a problem with going online.  Until yesterday.  Now its impossible.  I am connecting via a linksys router (model WRT54G2) version 1.5.  I have tried resetting modem, router.  Nothing.  Keep in mind my PC, iphone, ipad all connect fine to the wireless signal.  It is only the imac that won't connect.  The strange thing is when I check network settings it says it is connected to a linksys router at full strength.  But when I click Safari, it says I am not connected.  I am completely at a loss.  Any help is much appreciated as Apple wants to charge me $50 for tech support, linksys $40 and Cox Communications $75.  I love the lack of customer service.

I resolved a similar internet connection issue at a friends house recently, the problem was the router was set to only accept 5 wireless devices. This was not an issue before, but soon as his sons got a new wireless phones and a Mac Book Air, it used up all the available DHCP connections from his router.
His computer had the same issue,
    - was connected,
    - had a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address
    - did not have the DNS or router address in his current network settings.
The key point here is the same as yours, that all other devices were connected and could surf with Safari, except for that one device, in your case the iMac.
I determined his problem by manually assigning a 192.168.1.x  IP address, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, dns for his ISP and router address of 192.168.1.1. This worked, however it wouldn't when set to DHCP... went back to a 169 address.....
The real problem, the router was config'd to allow only 5 dhcp addresses to be giving out, once the 6 device tried, it would show a wireless full bar connect, a 169 address and wouldn't connect to the internet as Safaria stated it wasn't connected to the internet.
The real fix is to raise the number of dhcp wireless devices to a higher number, or possibly shorten the lease times so others can connect. He couldn't remember the password he changed on the linksys, so I left the network settings on his 6th wireless device in manual mode till he does remember the linksys password.
I bet thats was your case too. Linksys/Cisco is one of the best routers out there, I'd use airport Apple's second, and would not recommend NetGear because of support and technical issues in the past.

  • Getting your wireless router to work with the mini computers and their small monitors

I have one on the new Dell Mini computers.  I purchased the Wireless-G Broadband Router model #WRT54G2 and had the most difficult time getting Network Magic installed on the Mini because the monitor was too small for the required resolution (1024x768) - this was trying to install via the CD that came with the router.
    The solution to this problem:
    1)  Use the CD to install the Router and Network Magic on your desktop (or wherever you are hardwired to the internet).
    2)  Open Network Magic; go to "Status" and download the newest version of Network Magic to your desktop.
    3)  DO NOT use the CD to install Network Magic on the Mini.  Instead - Unplug your hardwire connection from your desktop and connect it to your Mini.  Go to "linksysbycisco.com/us/en/support/WRT54G2/download" and install the newest version of Network Magic on your Mini.
    4)  Replug your hardwire connection into your desktop.
    5)  You can now use Network Magic from your desktop to add the mini to the network.  Go to "Tasks" and then "Add a device."  You will be able to follow the directions at this point.
The only other issue I found was naming the network.  I had to name the desktop and the mini the same name otherwise it wouldn't connect.
Good Luck and hopefully it won't take you the three days it took me to figure this out.

  • Chromecast Compatibility

I was trying to connect my phone with the TV via chromecast and it didn´t seem to work. The TV recognized the Chromecast device but said there was no signal from the router. I have a Cisco Linksys router model WRT54G2. Are the devices compatible?

I’m not really an expert with this, however, it is also stated in the Google list that the router should have the firmware version 1.5.01 build 008. I suggest that you verify your router’s hardware version and visit their website. There’s an available firmware for WRT54G2 version 1.5.

  • Connecting iPad to wifi

Hello, I have a Lynksys routher model WRT54G2  I just bought an ipad and tried to connect it to my wifi but it keeps telling me it cannot connect to the network after I type in the password.  My iPod connected with no problem and still is able to connect.  Thank you for any assistance you can give me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Make sure that you have the correct network key/password for the wireless network. It is case sensitive.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router.
Go to the wireless tab. Set the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless channel to 11.
Go to wireless security sub tab. Make sure that you have the correct password/key for the wireless network.
Go to Wireless MAC filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled.
Go to Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation  threshold to 2306. Save the settings.
Try to connect to the wireless network again.
Do you get any error message?
What is the type of security on your wireless network?

  • Xbox call of duty 6 problems

hello forums of linksys. i'm a noob at all of this, so please dont hate.
I am using a wireless- g broadband router model WRT54G2.
    My ISP is Verizon.
I dont have trouble at all playing live matches or chatting with my friends, all of that works great,
    BUT
I can never be the host. I can start or create any private matches, and host any games.
I know my router is the problem, because I plugged in the ethernet cvable straight to my modem and everything worked perfectly.
I know my router website, so I can change stuff in there if I have to.

When your Modem and Router is connected to each other, on your computer which is connected to the Router login to the router setup page and then click on the Status tab and copy and paste the detail Output of the status ( Internet IP address, Subnet, Default Gateway, DNS 1 and DNS2) in your next post.
As most of the DSL Modem works in a DHCP mode, and they acts like a Router.

  • Password mystery

My router is model WRT54G2 V1. The firmware is ver. 1.0.01 build 003, Mar. 26, 2008. It works fine. I have noticed that the password I set when I first installed the router (and which works fine at accessing the control panel at 192.168.1.1) is not the same password that is "revealed" using Snadboy.com's Revelation software under the *********** at the control panel tab Administration>Management. The password I established at installation is ten characters in length, and completely different from the password at Administration>Management, which is nineteen characters in length. Shouldn't they be the same? Am I confused? Thank you.

It's normal so that when someone looks at your back they wouldnt be able to decypher it... much like other password boxes online... that's okay... nothing to be alarmed about

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
