Model WRT54GS Wired Connection

Model WRT54GS but i have my xbox 360 connected to it by a ethernet cable. i also set the port range and set a IP manually to the 360. I'm still getting strict Nat. Also, i have DSL Internet and i set the port range and firewall to the 360 IP on the DSL Modem. Wen I made the port range settings it was saying open Nat,A Day later it goes back to strict. i rechecked the port range settings and they are still set. I also have a PS3 connected wireless to the router, i set the port range for it as well. I've had no problems with the ps3 only the 360. Made sure IP are different. Help?

Ya i forgot to mention I put the DMZ to the PS3 and it makes it Type 2 NAT but wen i take it off the PS3 it goes to Type 3(type 2-router connection open NAT Type 3-Router Connection Strict NAT). But when i put it to the 360 it still says Strict NAT. I have the IP addresses= PS3(192.168.1.15) 360(192.168.1.115). After reading your post I updated the Firmware but has not fixed problem yet

  • WRT54G wired connection failure

My WRT54G v2.2 (FW 4.20.6) will no longer work with a wired connection - neither from my cable modem to the router nor from the router to my PC. More specifically:
If I connect my cable modem directly to my PC, I get a connection to the internet via my broadband provider (which is how I'm creating this message). If I connect the cable modem to the router, I cannot connect to the internet. I get a good wireless signal and can connect into the router (192.168.1.1), but no outside access. However, if I disable wireless on my PC and connect directly via wire to the router, I cannot even access the the router. In the latter case, my PC does report that the "local area connection is now connected", and the correct LED displays on the front panel of the router, but the connection doesn't work.
I've tested both of my cables that connect directly PC --> modem and they're both good. I've reset the router to factory default. Now I don't know what to do, except maybe replace the router. I'd like to hear of a cheaper solution.

You can check this on how to configure WRT54G wireless router. Also make sure you get the corrct IP, netmask, gateway and DNS on the computer after connecting to wireless network (can check this with ipconfig /all command in command prompt).
    Good luck..

  • WRT54G wired connection very slow

I just installed my first wireless router last night (the WRT54G), and I got the wireless portion up and running, which is a success to me.  But I immediately noticed that my wired desktop connection to the internet is now much slower than before.  I've tried doing some of the suggestions I've read about on you forums, such as adjusting the MTU, using TCP optimizer, etc, and nothing seems to have helped.  I did an internet speed test and my upload speed is well over twice what my download speed is...seems like my settings are right in the upload direction, just not so much in the download direction *shrugs.*  I did read on one post to try turning the range boost off, I logged into the router but can't figure out how to toggle the range boost on or off.
I'm sure this must be a somewhat common/frequent problem, it just seems that when I searched, most of the speed complaints had to do with the wireless connection rather than the wired one.  Any help on this would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Connect the computer, by wire, directly to your modem.  Verify that you have a properly working Internet connection.  Then do the following:
Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig /all" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key.  Post the results.

    Hi,
Does it happens only on 1 wired computer?
Try to wire some other computer and test it's download speed, and verify if it is issue with router and computer
And then resolution can be thought of.
I only have the one wired computer to test with, I haven't really tested the wireless speed yet; thought I'd tackle the wired problem before going for the wireless (if it's a problem)

  • Xbox 360 will not connect to WRT54G Wired connection

OK I just bought a xbox 360 and the Linksys wrt54g router I updated the firmware on the router and have 2 pcs currently connected and working great i also have a wii connected wirelessly and it works great.
I connected the xbox 360 to the router and it doesnt even detect that its connected. Ive tested the cables tried 4 different ones and nothing i unhooked the router and just ran the xbox 360 to the cable modem and it worked fine so i know its not the xbox or the cables its the router thats giving me probs. i called linksys was on the line with them for 2 hours and they couldnt tell me nothing. Ive read that ppl have this router and there xboxs work fine
on microsofts site this router is listed as compatible. im lossing my patience and getting very mad about this.
no lights come on the router and the xboxs say the cable is not connected when running to the router but when connected direct to the cable modem works fine.
can someone please help or shed some light on this i would be greatful
    thank

I amp having the same problem. I tried what you had said about using the xbox settings but no luck. I found a link that told me to open these ports:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediacenter/firewall.mspx#EMG
It says Inbound and outbound, but I have no idea what that means.  I basically went to Port Range Forwading (I have the BEFSX41 wired router by the way.). It would only allow me to put in 10 .  Also there is no incoming and outgoing!!?? So if there was just 1 number for the port I put that number in both Start and end, and if it had 2 number I put the 1st one as start and the second one as end.
Can anyone help me. This is redamndiculous that a person has to go through this much trouble to hook up an xbox 360.
Also I have a SD216 switch. I don't know if that matters at all.

  • WRT54G wired connection works wireless doesn't

I am having the exact same problem. When I plug my computer directly into the modem I can access the internet, but there is no connection when I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem.  Even when I have changed the IP address on the Setup page, the Status page still says 0.0.0.0. I have done all of the steps that you have instructed here. I also have AT&T DSL service.

Go here to connect via DSL service.

  • Wrt54g wired connections

Can not get an led on any ethernet port with several cables tried. Is this thing fried? Tried with 3 different computers, too...

If the ethernet port still gives you access, then the LED is busted. If not, then the port is defective.

  • Slow wired connection with WRT54G

    My ISP is Comcast.
I'm using their modem which includes my digital voice connection. From there I'm wired straight to the WRT54G and from there I'm wired to my PC. However, when I connect from the Comcast modem to my PC I get download speeds of 12mbps and when I connect from the WRT54G (wired) it drops to 1mbps or even 786kbps.
I've tried resetting the modem and the router. I've tried changing the MTU. I have the latest firmware version (v8.0.2). The last resort is getting a new cable modem (suggested in the forums) but I think that's out of the question since my digital voice is connected to the Comcast modem.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Please state the make and exact model number of your modem (not the WRT54G).
Using an ethernet cable, wire your computer directly to the modem (not the WRT54G).  Verify that you have a properly working Internet connection.  Then do the following:
Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig /all" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key.  Copy all the results to your next post, except that if your "IP address" does not start with 192, then post only the first 3 digits of your "IP address" along with the rest of the info.

  • Wrt54g, no wired connection, vista? update goblin?

Hi, I have linksys router WRT54G version 6.....its wired into my desktop and i have a wireless link to my laptop, and even though I got a new computer with windows vista home premiun a week ago, its been working fine for that week......until today, nov 14, when windows did an automatic update and install and automatically restarted my computer. since then the router doesn't work for my wired connection to my desktop, it links up with the network but not the internet....i havent' checked my laptop yet, probably the same.....I disconnected from my router and hooked directly into my modem to scour the internet for help...its all a blur but i did a hard reset on my router, thinking , i'll just reset it from scratch....my installation disk asks me for a password at the last second for some reason, don't remember that the first time, don't know what it could be either, i tried admin and left if blank, nothing, just kept restarting the installation. can't get to http://192.168.1.1/. either...... any ideas? thanks

Connect the computer to the router using Ethernet cable ..... check the LAN IP ...... if getting any valid Ip in the range of 192.168.1.1 ....try to ping the gateway address
If geting any reply try opening set up page of rotuer .....
If you are not getting any valid Ip .....do power cycle for 1 minute ....then once again check the Ip ....
If still it is showing invalid Ip ...... unplug the modem from router ...leave the computer connected to router  & reset the rotuer for 20-30 seconds ......
While holding the reset unplug the power cable ...wait for 10 seconds ...plug back the power cable & release the reset ....
Now once again check if getting any valid LAN ip address .....

  • Problem w/ WRT54G connecting with ADSL modem...no Internet even when 'wired' connected

    Hi ladies/gents,
need help...not sure what to do...
i have ADSL modem, and i have a cable running from the modem to the "internet" port of my Linksys router.  i have another cable from Port 1 (or whichever) to my laptop.  modem works/is connected, router works/is connected, cables are good.
YET, i am getting NO internet...forget wireless here...i am just talking about the simple wired connection here and it is not giving me any Internet.  If i disconnect the modem cable from the Internet port and connect directly to laptop, then Internet works fine....frustrating.
i do know that the ISP says that they use Automatic DHCP (or something like that)
    Any ideas!?

This is not really a fix, however, what I found out from having the same problem (Limited or no connectivity) is for some reason my verizon modem (Westell 6100) and the router (Wrt54g) had the same IP address.  I changed the router IP address several time and it would alway end up with the same problem.
What I ended up doing (mind you its for no other reason than I wanted to connect to the internet and was sick of the problem) was connect my modem to the #1 port of the router and use the other three ports for my computers thinking that if they had the same IP address maybe it would work that way.  I know very little about how this stuff work but it did fix my problem.  I have been hooked up that way for months and haven't lost speed or connection since.  I hope this helps and maybe someday someone who know why it works will tell me so I will know.
    Good Luck !!

  • Wrt54g - no wired connection - cannot find ethernet port upon setup, cannot get wired connection

I've had my wrt54g router for a little over 1 year.  I had to get support to set up the router initially b/c it could not find the ethernet port when I tried to set it up initially.  I am past that date and recently had to move the router and the PC.  When I tried to redo the setup same issue - i upgraded the firmware and same issue.  If i uplug the router and plug the cable directly from the cable modem into my pc, everything works well, but when i try to set up a wireless connection, the wired connection goes down, but the wireless connection works and i cannot get the wired connection back up.  i am a novice with the device, so any detailed help in trouble shooting the problem and getting me back up on both a wired and wireless basis would be appreciated.

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 30 seconds and configure the router from the scratch.Make sure that the Modem is connected to the router on the internet port and the computer to the router on the ethernet port.
Also check the ip address you are getting on the computer hardwired to the router...Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then, try to open the setup page..

  • Wireless-G Model WRT54GS V7 Firmware 7.50.0 - easylink Advisor 1.5.1044

    I have a Wireless-G Model WRT54GS V7.50.0 Firmware for easylink Advisor 1.5.1044
Connected to a highspeed connection, and then connected (Hardwired in port 1 of router) to a Dell system running XP SP3.
I bought a new Laptop that is running Windows 7 and the laptop causes the connections to drop when it is powered on.
Then the laptop is always dropping the connection and re-establishing the connection. Is this problem because of windows 7?
If I do not bring the laptop up, i can run the desktop with no problem. Running WPA security mode.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    John

Is your Desktop computer is a Wired or Wireless? Are you facing the problem only on your Windows 7 Computer or on all the wireless computers?
You can try to change the Wireless Settings on your Router and check if that makes any difference...
Login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Wireless tab.... and below change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462GHz and click on Save settings.... Then click on the Sub tab "Advance Wireless Settings" and below Change the Beacon Interval to 50 .....Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 ....Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn Printer Wired Connectivity and have USB simultaneously?

    Hello to all;
    Thank you in advance.
I have a HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn Printer.
The question, can I use ethernet connection and have USB simultaneously?  Ethernet is faster, right?
Currently, I have the printer connected to network via Ethernet Wired Connectivity through an Apple Aiirport Extreme base station.  I have several Mac's all operating under 10.9.1, and two PC's (one is WIN XP, and the other WIN 8.1), which all operate fine with 2008 wired/wireless technology. I know what a dinosour. I am in the process of upgrading the household to current wireless technology with a NetGear AC1900 Nighthawk Smart WiFi Router (Model: R7000), 802.11ac Dual Band Gigabit, with two USB ports ((1) 2.0 and (1) 3.0) . I connected the printer directly into the Netgrar router, and it wouldn't print, ran setup through the Mac and Win computers and still wouldnt pring. One of the reasons that sold me on the Netgear router was the ReadySHARE® USB access—Wirelessly access & share. In order for me to utilize the ReadySHARE® feature is to connect via a USB cable.  Sob story, the longest USB cable off the shelf usually 16",  and to reach where the printer is now, I need @25-28 feet of cable. Is ther a maximum length of USB that I can use with out suffering loss of speed/functionality?
Again thank you for your time

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • I recovered my back up via a wired connection. now Time Machine does not recognise older back ups wirelessly and wants to do a first back up

I recovered a back up from my time machine via a wired connection after getting the 'white screen of death'. Now Time Machine does not recognise any back ups on the time machine when connected wirelessly and wants to do a first back up of the whole machine. How do I get my mac to recognise these older back ups? It connects to the wifi network the time machine creates fine, with the same name and password.

    I recommend the following.
    1. Reset the TC to factory.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Rename the TC to SMB standard.
That means short names.. 2-20 characters but less than 10 is excellent. eg TCGenx (use number for x that is actual generation of the TC)
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
    3. Ensure IPv6 is set to link-local..
Do the same thing for ethernet if that is used.
    4. Manually mount the TC disk in Finder.
Use Go in the top menu.. connect to server.
    Type in
AFP://TCname.local (where TCname is your new short name for the TC and local is default domain .. it helps using the domain I found).
You will then find the computer either can or cannot find the network resource.. if it fails something else is wrong with the actual network and you will need to fix that.
It will request the password if it is found.. password is public by default unless you changed it.. type in the password and check to keep it in your keychain.
    5. Delete current TM setup and redo it with the newly named TC.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If your backups cannot be found, try B6 again, now that you actually know that the disk has been properly discovered.
