Modem and WAN miniport, com confusion

Hi everyone! I've been stuggling for 2 days and nights to figure this one out! So tired! I"m on an older hp pavilion a710n desktop and have been using the built in modem on a basic dial in AOL for 11 years. Now for some reason when I connect the network connection jumps right past the modem and does a WAN miniport connection, making a direct connection to the Internet. Unfortunately, the speed of this connection is 10kbps!! Seems to run ok, but can't keep up with the McAfee security! No updates. Modem is showing up ok on computer and AOL dialup, I have slowed it down to 9600 as recommended. Any thoughts? Thanks, guys, for your time and effort. It takes a lot to figure this stuff out!! Have a great week.

Hello, is there nobody who can help? No workaround for uninstalling these WAN Miniport devices? Is it necessary at all to uninstall the remaining WAN Miniport devices, or can I continue with the (already killed and missing) 3 WAN Miniport devices?
Please, any help is highly appreciated!
Thanks, Marc
Hi, Me too is facing the exact issue as Marc i have also deleted the following:
WAN minport (IP)
WAN minport (IPv6)
WAN minport (L2tp)
WAN minport (Network Monitor)
WAN minport (PPPoE)
WAN minport (PPTP)
except the fact i am on win7 64 bit os. and my wifi is gone completely and on suing troubleshooter i have got the error of DNS server not found which i am sure due to these deleted  miniports. Any help to get these drivers back on would be highly appreciated.

  • W530 Wifi issues and WAN Miniport disabled (Code 31) AHHHH!!!!!!

    Hey guys,
This is my 2nd W530. The first one was replaced for the same issues I'm having now.
My wifi is very slow and inconsistent. I'm always having to disconnect and re-connect with my router (brand new router since I thought the old one could be the issue). This has been an issue since I received my new unit.
Yesterday I had a yellow exclamation mark pop up in Lenovo manager and said my network monitor WAN miniport was disabled (code 31). Since that popped up connecting to the wifi is very rare and requires a lot of effort. I'm out of ideas and considering calling Lenovo and having them take this thing back and give me a refund.
Anyone else experienced these issues? I tried windows 8 troubleshooter and it detects the issue but can't fix it. I tried updating the driver and it tells me its up to date and I tried uninstalling it and I'm unable to.

Thanks for that, it's actually exactly what I wanted to read
Again, which WLAN adapter do you have in the system please?
When I read your post yesterday I took a look in my device manager and it was showing exactly the same problem which hadn't been present two days ago.  It's something I've been keeping an eye on because I have the Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 WLAN card which seems to be having problems being reported all over the web.
    Trouble shooting to date,
after rolling back my Windows 8 X64 to the 15th May, before running Windows Updates, the WAN miniport problem had gone away.  I then started trying to narrow things down by installing / uninstalling various updates and drivers.
At the moment I am at the stage that I can roll back the system to the 15th May, (no problem), and then install through Windows Update "Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2836988)" on it's own and immediately after a restart the WAN miniport problem is there again.
I have as yet been unable to get rid of the error by uninstalling the update, uninstalling / reinstalling drivers and various other softwares which could be a factor, but haven't given up yet.
Any chance you could roll back your system to a point where the error wasn't showing in Device Manager and see if you can replicate what I have experienced by just installing the one update?
    Edit; for the record I am using a T430 W8 x64.

  • Lenovo B590 configuration or hardware problems (microphone and WAN miniport)?

    Hi,
    First message here. :-)
Ok, when I use the integrated microphone, I can barely hear myself. It has always worked like that and I don't know if there's a problem. I uninstalled and installed the drivers, I amplified +20 dB and the output is very low. When I'm trying out different things, if I try to configure speech recognition and read the sentence I can see how the bar oscillates like it recognizes some sound, but the result is too low and it tells me that it couldn't hear a thing.
Also, out of nothing I receive this message that tells me that my WAN miniport is disabled. The Lenovo Solution Center detects this problem but it doesn't fix it, and I can't enable The WAN miniport it in the device administrator, either.
    Thank you for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi EXinthenet, welcome to the forums,
regarding the WAN Miniport, it seems that a recent Microsoft update (KB2836988) has caused this to happen on some systems, unfortunately uninstalling the update doesn't solve the problem.
You could do a system restore in Windows to a point before the update was installed and then whan you update hide / exclude the update by right clicking it before updating.  More information and an alternative fix can be found in the following threads,
Win 8 Monthly Update - T430S WAN Miniport Problem
SOLVED! WAN Miniport #2 yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager
I would suggest starting another thread for the microphone issue, don't forget to state which operating system version, 32 bit / 64 bit, and sound driver versions you have installed.

  • WAN MINIPORT ERROR AND TAKES A LONG TIME TO SHUT DOWN

Few days before,my device manager was showing yellow exclamation mark in wan miniport(ikev2),SSTP and another area, which i can't remember. So i searched on forums and use  another software to fix this. The link to website is  - https://www.vpnhosting.cz/index.php/clanky/wan-miniport-repair-tool-solve-vpn-and-dial-up-error-code-720-and-similar-ppperrors.html
i followed the process but now when i boot my laptop it does not show wan miniport driver initially on device manager .After long hours it shows wan miniport drivers but again with yellow excamation mark.I think it tries to install the driver at the beginning. Now
the problem is, when i shut down it takes a  very long time with a huge fan operation noise. Many times it goes in to hibernation state to avoid overheating.Sometimes i have to forcibly shut down using the power button. Now  when i start it , it again
does not show wan miniport drivers in device manager. This way the cycle continues and many times my laptop does not get a proper shut down. What do i do? please help me..

    Hi,
May I know thw error code displayed in the problematic wan miniport drivers? Code 720 as in the link you post above or other error code?
This link can be helpful for further troubleshooting (please create a restore point before making changs to the system in case any incorrect operations can cause unexpected issue)

  • I got a new modem and imac says connected with the airport, but cant get a web page to come up on either safari or firefox

I started having internet problems with all my devices in the house, ipod, imac, pc laptop, tablets, etc... found out after being on the phone with comcast for hours, they determined my modem that they supply was bad. So I have the new modem now and very simple to install it and get everything working. However, I cannot get online with a web browser of any sort on my imac. which had no issues before.
All my devices in the house work perfectly now with the new modem and my speeds are great, and even the imac (with the airporter) states it is connected. but I cant do anything pertaining to the internet. I have spent hours on the tech line with comcast and they cant seem to find the issue and said it is with my Imac, even though it was working fine before.
Does anyone have any ideas, is there simply something I'm missing, please help. As I stated before, everything else that we own works great and has great connection. and the Imac states it is connected, but mail, internet, non of that works...??????

I have BT Infinity at home with the BT modem connected to the phone line and then to a BThub which delivers the wif signal. I have purchased an airport extreme to improve wi fi strength if how do I connect up to hub it states connect modem to WAN on back of Airport Extreme.
Instructions do not mention connection to BT Hub and the BT modem has only one output which you dicsonnect from Hub and connect to airport extreme leaving. Once you do this Hub has no signal.
    How do I rectify
    Paul

you can also set up the Airport extreme to extend the wireless by hitting the wireless tab in the airport menu then click the drop down menu to select extend
Apple's "extend" function is a proprietary setting that was designed to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that this setting would work with a BT product, or any other manufacturer's product for that matter.
But, I haven't tested this with a BT product...and I suppose anything is possible.
Still, I would be extremely surprised if this worked.
The AirPort Extreme might "join" the BT network if you try this......but the AirPort does not provide any additional wireless signal coverage when it "joins" a wireless network. In fact, it really does nothing when it "joins" a network except enable the USB port.

  • T530 WAN MiniPort and VPN issues

    Hi All!
I have a T530 that is just about 1 year old. CAme with Windows 7. I did a Clean install of Windows 8 64 bit.  I have had to do 2 System Restores since mid-May of this year due to my VPNs suddenly not working. It seems to be related to the WAN MiniPorts. I was thinking initially this was a Windows Update cause and effect scenario, but after the first System restore I disabled automatic installation of Windows Updates and have no installed any manually.  The VPN within Windows 8 stops working, as well as any and all 3rd party VPN applications.
This is becoming a terrible hassle not to mention a time consuming pain.  Has there been any discoveries as to why this is happening??
    Thanks.....

  • WAN Miniport can't load drivers

Have had a KT4V since last fall and I have three yellow circles with exclamation points on three WAN miniport drivers for PPPOE, PPTP, and L2TP, as displayed in Device Manager. I first saw these when I installed the machine using XP. A reinstall of XP didn?t fix it. Upgrading to SP1 did not make a difference; neither did changing video cards or hard disks. I have the latest 4 in 1 drivers installed yesterday, no difference. This is the KT4V with the built in Ethernet, and that works fine.
Whole machine works fine except I can?t access any dialup modem service, which before today wasn?t a problem because I didn?t have to do that with this machine. I get an ?error 6 ? no handle available? after the modem makes its connection. Looks like the TCP/IP stack is blown???
Now I need to access the net, and as quickly as possible. I assume this has something to with the miniports issue. Not sure as I haven?t found any documentation of the WAN miniports anywhere.
I?ve no idea if this is Microsoft?s problem, MSI?s, or Via?s, as none of them have clear documentation on how these things work that I could locate, but it surely is *my* problem.
The device manager won?t let me uninstall the WAN miniports, even in safe mode, which would be the first thing I?d normally do. Running SFC doesn't help either.
    Rest of system:
    KT4V with Athlon 1800XP 512K DRAM
    AIW Radeon 7500 AGP
    2 IDE hard disks
    2 IDE CD drives
    Creative Soundblaster PCI 128
    SIIG dual serial port card
    3.5" floppy
Problem first turned up when I set up the machine, which at the time was a low end Nvidia AGP card, no PCI 128, no SIIG card, one CD, one HD.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

You may have already done this so forgive me if you have, but I would try deleting the contents of the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters folder. I would then navigate to the /Library/Receipts and delete the Canon MP610 xxx.pkg file.
Then control-click on the Printers list in Print & fax and click on "Reset printing system..."
Then empty the Trash, unplug the MP610 USB and restart the iMac.
Then I would install the MP610 v6.91 OS X driver. I found it via the Canon Australia web site (http://www.canon.com.au/products/allin_one_printers/all_in_one_printers/mp610support.aspx).
Once the installation is complete, reconnect the MP610 to the iMac and wait. The printer should automatically appear in the Print & Fax application.
Also, in future, you should be posting this on the Leopard printing forum...

  • DSL Modem and Wireless Router problems

I started to have problems on Tuesday.
    My Equipment is:
Dell Precision 870 PC with a Intel Pro network card
Apple IMAC with the Apple Lan connection
    Lynksys/Cisco E3000 (Problem started with a Linksys WRT610N router)
    Verizon (Actiontec) GT701C DSL modem
I came down to my office and I noticed that the DSL light on my modem was not lit.  In the past
this has ment that there is a problem in the Central Office.  Later in the day I got hold of Verizon
tech support and we got the DSL running again with the modem connected to either computer.
When I connect the router to the modem and the computers to the router, Dell via wire and Apple
via wireless 5.0 GHz 802.11N inout and restart both the router and the modem, I get connectivity
through the router and the modem but the DSL light on the modem is not lit.  After a long period
of time the DSL light may come on then I loose connectivity.
Everything was working correctly til late Monday night/early Tuesday morning.
I have reset both the modem and routers to factory defaults several time.  I have a problem when
trying to get connectivity with the moden after setting it up again and it takes me to the Verizon
DSL startup site.  Tech support walked me throuogh using the "192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect" and
shutting the redirect off.  I then have connectivity as long as the router is not connected.
I thoought the router went so I just installed a new router, the Linksys/Cisco E3000, and I still
    have the DSL light problem.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Having both routers the same IP address is a little bit confusing, but possible since each router creates it's own subnet and provides full PNAT support. Actiontec DSL modem has to have DHCP enabled since Linksys WAN (not LAN) port should be connected to one of 4 Actiontec LAN ports. Linksys should not have any configuration setup in regards of your WAN account. Just set it to dynamic address. In ohter words:
    1. RJ-11 connect to Actiontec mode/router.
    2. Actiontec modem should be configured to acquire an IP address from Verizon and to provide all authentication info to Verizon.
    3. Actiontec modem should be configured to allow clients to acquire dynamic IP addresses -- DHCP enabled.
    4. Linsys WAN (not LAN!) port should be connected to Actiontec LAN port.
    5. Linksys should be configured to acquire dynamic IP address and no authentifacations.
    6. Configure Linksys to be DHCP enabled or you can use static IP addresss if you want.
    7. Wireless devices would be connected to Linksys and on the way to the Internet addresses would go through double NAT conversions. Any wired device connected to Linksys would have similar  features. Any device connected to Linksys should be able to connect 192.168.1.1 assigned to Linksys, but not to Actiontec.
    8. To be able to connect Linksys and Actiontec would no be able to communicate unless you split 192.168.1.0/24 into smaller subnets and set specific routes in the table. But even you do so you will not be able to access 192.168.1.1 accross subnets boundary.
    Hope it helps.

  • New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS.  FiOS does not use modems.  Your cable modem is useless with FiOS.  Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers.  The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet.  The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports.  If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet.  For slower speeds, coax is the default.  Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work.  Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay.  If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time.  You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models.  The Verizon routers are good devices for most users.  People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down.  You can't run any other router firmware on them.  WiFi range is decent, but not great.  I'm quite happy with my Quantum router.  YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want.  However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router.  They won't even mention it as an option.  That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service.  If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one.  If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues.  This will allow you to call their support. This FAQ is very helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 Good Luck.

  • No connection between modem and time capsule !

    Hi everyone,
I have bought the last week a 1 TB time capsule which I intend to use with my Imac.
I have an ADSL modem that I want to connect to my capsule.
To install it, I followed line by line the Configuration guide provided with the capsule viz. modem (output LAN plug) connected to the capsule (input WAN plug)
I settled the capsule thanks to the software provided (Airport Express) and after transferring the settlings to the capsule, one error has been identified: something like "No WAN connection detected". After checking out on the capsule, an orange light twinkles permanently.
I then decided to have a look on the cables connections and found out that there were no light at the back of my time capsule so no connection at all between my modem and the capsule.
However, there is no problem for this connection when I connect my previous WIFI router to my ADSL modem so the problem cannot come from a defect of the ethernet cable.
For info, on my modem, ADSL lights are twinkling so no problem for the connection from my wall plug to the modem. But, still on the modem, the LAN lights do not twinkle (so no exchange at all with the capsule).
My own diagnosis is that the modem is not compatible with time capsule but I'd like to have a confirmation on this.
Could you please tell me your points of view? Or suggest me another reason? Hope somebody has had the same experience as me... I would not like to be the only one...
    Thanks in advance.
    Jokoko

My own diagnosis is that the modem is not compatible with time capsule but I'd like to have a confirmation on this.
It would really help us if you could provide the manufactuer and model number of your modem.
it's possible that another user reading this post may have the same modem and be able to help, or we can check to get specifications and support documentation online if we know what you have. As of now, I'm afraid that we know nothing.

  • Cricket UM185C Broadband Modem and Snow Leopard 10.6.x

Cricket has (fraudulently in my opinion) jettisoned support for the UM185C USB Broadband modem and Snow Leopard after very little time. I only paid for the UM185C less than 6 months ago and here I am with wasted money and a service I've paid for that is useless.
Anyway, I saw here where intrepid forum users where able to get the Cricket A600 USB Broadband Modem and Snow Leopard to work together after a series of terminal hacks, etc.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2142240&start=15&tstart=0
Is there any hope for making the UM185C work or should I simply discontinue service with Cricket and report them to the BBB for fraud and leave well enough alone.
I think the fact that there's no mention of the UM185C in these forums tells me that most Mac users are ditching Cricket for broadband and I can't blame them. What an unethical company they are. By the way, want to have some fun? Try downloading the "mac" version of the driver from the Cricket site for the UM185C; it's an .exe file for Windows.

    Hi Cowicide Moo,
My name is Ryan and I work in partnership with Cricket Wireless. We are sorry to hear about any confusion you may have encountered regarding the types of software supported by our various selections of broadband devices. On our website, we provide a clear list of modems and support software for customers to be able to determine the correct device to purchase for their computer.
    http://www.mycricket.com/support/faq/What-computers-and-operating-softwareandnbs pare-the-Cricket-Broadband-modems-compatible-with
As you'll see, the UM185C is supported by Mac OS X Leopard (10.5+) and earlier, but does not currently support Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6+) 32-bit. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    > The following devices do not have drivers in the Symantec Recovery Disk.
    >
    > WAN Miniport (IKEv2)

    > A detailed information about these devices is given below

    > Hardware Id : MS_AgileVpnMiniport
From a bit of googling, it seems it is more of a higher level interface than an actual hardware device. I'm not really sure what it's used for, or how likely I will miss it in the event of a recovery. Is this something I should spend time worrying about right away?
The thread http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/wan-miniport-sstp-driver-problem/f83493ae-8127-47dd-a7b7-7e5b3460b6a6 says it's not needed in "most cases" but I was wondering if any exceptions might be encountered during recovery (when I would like to use WiFi to surf and restore my system to non-factory state, as well as to do diagnostics on a possibly bad HDD).

By the way, would anyone know where to get the driver? I would prefer to get it from a Toshiba or Microsoft site, but the laptop driver download page for my model at Toshiba Canada doesn't list anything containing "wan" or "miniport".
The thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/316bec01-01c4-433a-95cb-a0b5b2359beb how to transplant the relevant part of the registry, but I would like to avoid mucking with the registry if possible. I would feel much more confident about having a driver that can be installed by more conventional means (if there is such a thing).
