Hi everyone
I want to ask u a very important question. I dont have an idea regarding how i can detect a hardware attached to my system through a java programe.
Acctually i want to detect a GSM modem through my programme so that my system becomes a server and the mobile cell phones can access its database
by sending a message to my server.

I have 3 network interface in my computer, all are up and I need to detect which one is a 3G Modem connection. Better to detect from the IP address etc...

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

6288 E65 Modem problems

Hello
I have managed to get both phones installed onto the PC. PC Suite recognises they are connected via data cable but will not recognise them as a modem. This used to work fine on an older version of PC suite so maybe a downgrade. Im at work at the moment but will be able to give details in 24 hours.
If anyone has any ideas in the mean time please let me know. Thank you

I had this problem too, trying to connect via Infrared. Fiddling around I got it to work by going in the Connectivity folder on the phone (where the infrared application is) and clicking the Modem application. This comes up with Connect via infrared and the option to connect - when I clicked this the connection went through straight away.
Don't know if that will work with Bluetooth though.

An application refuses to uninstall

I want to uninstall an internet modem application. It refuses to uninstall. I dragged it to the Trash, it returns back to the Launchpad. What do I do to uninstall it?

Did you install it from the App Store or from somewhere else? In Launchpad, you can hold down your cursor on App Store icons and they will present an X in the top corner which you can click to uninstall the app. If you downloaded it from elsewhere, do not use Launchpad - go to your Applications folder and trash it from there. Make sure that the app is not running (check for a light under its dock icon, or look for a menubar icon), or you will not be able to uninstall it.

Bluetooth faxing broken in 10.4.8

I use my cellphone to fax things, via bluetooth. It's a great technology, which has been a lot of fun...but it has stopped working since upgrading to 10.4.8 on both my Powerbook G4 and my PowerMac G5.
The "classic" way to set this up:
* System Prefs -> Print and Fax
* Click "+" to add something; option-click "More printers..."
* Choose "Advanced," then Device: "Bluetooth-Modem", and Printer Model: "Other"
* Navigate to /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/PrintCore.f ramework/Resources/English.lproj/Fax.ppd
* Click OK a bunch, and it works.
...but now, it only faxes part of a page, then quits, and says that the fax is "on hold" in the Bluetooth-Modem application.
My cellphone is a Motorola e815, though that shouldn't matter because the same phone worked in 10.4.7 just fine...
Any help is most appreciated!

To attempt to resolve this issue try the following suggestions...
1. Open Disk Utility, located in the Applications->Utilities folder. Select your boot volume and click "Verify Disk".
2. Using Disk Utility select your boot volume and click "Repair Permissions".
3. Download and apply the Combo update. This version of the 10.4.8 update is much larger than the one the Software Update application offers because it will update any version of OS X 10.4.x. It refreshes ALL files that have changed since the original version of 10.4. A good percentage of people find that applying the Combo update resolves problems. Of course make sure you download the Intel version for your Mac Book.
The above suggestions are pretty much standard troubleshooting procedures. Hopefully one will do the trick. If not the next step is to start looking for preference files that may have been corrupted during the update.
If you are an experienced troubleshooter and have already tried these tips I apologize.

Recover Windows 7 after a failed update

Hi,
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Studio laptop. On Tuesday, my laptop downloaded new updates, but hung while installing them. I left it on for a few hours.
I switched the laptop off and it then wouldn't start or even run recovery successfully. I managed to get in and return to the last restore point, just before the updates were installed. That was the only available restore point.
The laptop then booted up normally, but it wouldn't run a number of applications, such as SQL server, my Vodafone 3G software and Excel. I also got errors when trying to run control panel.
I found an article that suggested a clean boot. I changed the settings and did a clean boot. My Excel now starts and the laptop starts up and shuts down successfully, but I still can't run control panel, although most of the icons appear before it crashes.
Excel works, but SQL server still won't start and my 3G modem application doesn't work.
I also can't get into the event viewer by running eventvwr, although I can run appwiz.cpl and services successfully. The SQL server services are flagged as running.
I also realise that I probably can't keep running the machine from a clean boot, but I haven't resolved anything yet.
What is the best way forward? I've run a hardware check and didn't get any faults reported. I'm obviouslytrying to avoid a re-installation of Windows.
Any help would be appreciated.

for some reason, i cannot use my e63 to connect my pc to the web. i am using Wi-fi, and i can surf the net on my phone. but when i connect it to my pc via the data cable my phone automatically restarts. i had already installed the modem application and i have the pc suite. but it would just shut down and start over again. and this happens over and over again. till i disconnect my phone.
help please!

Not yet. What you are describing is a "tethered modem"
There was an APP posted on the App Store a few weeks ago that did what you want, but it was pulled in less than a day.
I have seen news articles from AT&T that say they intend to release their own version of a tethered modem application but it was probably come with an additional monthly service charge.

SMS Message Bar commands dissapear

I've gone from 3G to 3Gs to 4 and have loved 'em all. I have not experienced any of the issues that have been posted here, but my iPhone4 does have one peculiar and frustrating recurring problem. On almost a daily basis, upon either receipt or transmission of an SMS, the "Messages" bar which contains the commands "<messages" and "Edit" for some reason no longer displays these command buttons. The only way I can restore is to power down and up again. Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a fix?

Close the HSDPA modem application first, then try to connect thru Hyper terminal.

I am new to java and want to develop an application which is accessible by dialing in through modem.
The architecture i want to develop is a access database and a rmi server application on my home computer and that to be accessible through my laptop using connection by dialing in through modem.
In this way is it possible to access or will i have to have a URL and a web server also running on my home computer.

no, you don't need a Webserver for RMI. RMI is independent and uses the rmiregistry as backgroud application, which will open the TCP Port for the communication with your client(s).
If you dial into your machine, your client will get also an IP Address, so you can access your server.
Normaly you also have to configure the Server-IP for Modem-Dialin - at Windows 2000 Server you can look into Routing & RAS for this IP.
In this case, you have to access to your RMI Server-App through this IP and the Port specified by you for miregistry.

i want to send sms from gsm modem to a j2me application, for this to happen i have to send sms to a specific port in which j2me application is running.when i m trying to send sms from modem it doesnt go to application it goes to inbox.
is it related to udh settings if yes then how do i set port no in settings?if no what are the other ways.

Might be you can call ActiveX or DLL objects of the software installed for modem from LabVIEW, if it is unblocked.

Force G5 internal modem to recognize OS 9 application

I have an iMac G5 with the Motorola SM56 internal modem running 10.3.9. The application I'm trying to keep working is a defunct banking API called MacAuthorize (they went out of business in 1999). The application works perfect under OS 9 on any Mac with the older internal modems up to an eMac running OS 10.2x. It even works under classic, but it can't find the modem to dial out. The programmer that wrote this program has another helper program call PortXtender that is supposed to make USB modems look like serial port modems to work under classic. My dilemma is it still can't find either the internal modem or the external Best Data USB modem I just bought. I have tried every init string I can find to no avail. Both Apple and Best Data say that anything past 10.3x breaks the communication. I can use an old OS 9 app called Zterm and dial out to communicate, I just don't know how or if it's possible to have a work around to integrate to MacAuthorize. Any help will be greatly appreciated and the winner gets money! (if it's allowed). Thanks in advance!! Robert

Yes I have tried several lines. I've even taken the computer outside and
disconnected all the house lines and connected the computer to the main line--same results. I have a PC sitting next to the iMac. When the problem occurs I can connect the phone line to either, back and forth, and the problem stays
with the iMac. I just completed a test survey over the past six days: out of
49 dial up attempts, the iMac only failed 12 times-- completely random
occurrences. I took the computer to an Apple store and it worked without
failure for 2 hours; they said they can do nothing without seeing the problem.

I just spoke with Tesco technical support (having been transferred to them by Clubcard support), who told me that the problems people are experiencing when visiting the Tesco site via Safari aren't currently being addressed because "not enough people have called to complain about it".
I asked what percentage of people he thought might make the effort to call instead of just giving up. He replied that he would be one of those who just gave up.
So it would seem that if we would like the problem to be resolved, we each need to take a few moments to CALL TESCO and ensure our complaint is logged by the technical support team.
