Modem DSL Light flashes

Hello
I posted a few days ago about my PPPOE connection dropping on my Apple router around once or twice per day.
I have since noticed that when this happens, the DSL light on the white modem also goes out and flashes. In fact, it happened last night on an incoming call to the landline although this could be coinicidence as I cannot duplicate this.
I phoned BT last night who said there is a fault on my line and it will be passed to engineering who will deal with it in 48 hours. They had no more details than that - anyone else had anything similar or know what this might mean? Is the IP Profile too high or something?
Also, if the DSL stayed up but the PPPOE on the Apple router went down - does that cause the DSL light on the modem to flash or would it stay on?
Thanks

Ip profile wont be too high, so that wont be the issue.

  • Intermittent connection dsl light flashing on mode...

I had a line issue fixed last week after a voice/data outage, after this my infinity connection worked for a few days, then I noticed the dsl light flashing on the hub every few hours. This has progressed to pretty much no connection, if I reboot the fiber modem ocasionally I will get a connection for 20 minutes then it will fail again. I've tried a spare fiber modem which worked for about 5 hours then started displaying the same symptom of the dsl light flashing. The voice part of the line is working fine with no crackling or drops. The line checker said everything was fine when I first tested it so is this likely to be another wiring issue, a problem with the hub/modem (I understand they can have thermal problems?) or something external?
Any thoughts or things to try appreciated before I brave another call to the helpdesk....

Two modems with the same issue, this there must be a BroadBand fault.

  • DSL light flashing, verizon tech fix did not work...

And now the chat is down so I thought i would post my query here. basically I plugged in the modem and the DSL light just flashes green. I went to the router main page (192.168.1.1) to change the password and hit connect as told to me by the verizon guy in the chat. The main page says this:
    Please Connect a DSL Line.
    What can I do?

If you just purchased your service, they might've not connected you at all like they did to me. DSL from them is not what it used to be.

  • When I connect Time Capsule to Time Warner Cable Modem, amber light flashes

I want to use Time Capsule as my primary wireless network base. When I connect my Time Capsule directly to my Time Warner Cable Modem, the amber light flashes and Time Capsule won't appear in AirPort Utility on my MacBookPro. I've tried unplugging everything and waiting to reset cable modem and Time Capsule.
Before I got the Time Capsule, I used a wireless router. The only way I can get Time Capsule to work is as a guest on my old wireless router network. I can't get the Time Capsule to configure itself directly with my Time Warner Cable Modem.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

This situation is pretty common now and it has nothing to do with the any of the routers but rather how cable modems are configured to work. They seem to latch on to the first device connected to them whether it be a router or a computer and will not allow any other device to access their network. The solution is to power off the cable modem and wait a minute. While you're waiting disconnect the old connection from the cable modem. Power up the cable modem and then connect the new device, router or computer, to the cable modem. Give it a few seconds to complete the connection and you should be ready to go. You have to do this every time you switch connections to the cable modem. This is also why you should set your router to serve addresses so that you don't have to do the cable modem samba when you want to connect a new device to the network.

  • Openreach Modem DSL light

My BT Infinity 2 has been working flawlessley since it was installed last year but suddenly last night I lost my internet link and its not returned all day.
My modem does not have a green DSL light. The power and LAN lights also cycle on and off - its like the modem automatically keeps reseting every few seconds.
I've tried resetting the modem, unplugging everything but can't get a connection.
BT say there is no problem on the line and have booked me an engineer call for Tuesday.
I hope its just a bad modem (version 3B) and they will replace.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

    Sounds like a faulty modem

  • Dsl light flashing

The dsl light on my westell 6100 has been flashing for the last day. Was wondering if there is an outage of dsl service.

  • ZyXel Prestige 861 Modem - vDSL Lights Flashing/Blinking Green

    Hi All,
The internet used to work, but now it's just flashing/blinking green. Hence the internet has gone down, and I can't figure where is the problem.
I live in a apartment (23 Floors), and the modem is setup this way:
Telephone Cable => Modem => Ethernet Cable => Router
I changed the telephone cable a few times, and even switched to a different jack that used to work (I moved the modem from the living room to the bedroom 2 years ago).
But it is still flashing/blinking green on the vDSL lights.
Also it seems like nobody had any issues with their Verizon services, could it be a hardware issue that the 5 year old ZyXel Presitage 861 modem has broken down?
Is it possible to switch to another modem, for example, Actiontec GT701D Ethernet DSL Modem?
    Thanks all

Well, I thought in the meantime while the network is down (tech is arriving tomorrow), why don't I try to debug the problem myself?
I've tested that the phone line itself works, but I don't know about the jack.
The ONT works too (The Verizon Phone Support said that ONT looks fine), so... It's some physical connection between the basement and my apartment (located 23rd floors high). I've tried all the jacks in my house, which they used to work when I was deciding the best place to put my modem and wireless router).
So it's either the modem, or the physical wiring is broken. So why not try a quick fix?
Anyways, if it's somewhere of the wiring, and also extremely difficult to fix it, I guess I need to find another apartment.

  • Actiontec GT701C DSL light keeps flashing please help

I use to have the WIFI router from verizon but the wifi range was not strong enough for certain items in my home... in addition the items could not even find the network on wifi. i replaced it with a Actiontec GT701C so i could use my old wireless router that was strong enough to support my whole home .. But know when i connect my DSL line to the New modem the GT701c i can not access the internet .. i Could get to the configure screen but other than that the DSL Light keeps flashing any suggestions.. i have rebooted the modem and tryed diffrent phone line and phone jacks in my home please help !!!

Does your older modem connect still? If so, could you tell us which modem it is so that we could help you obtain the Transceiver Statistics from it? It's possible the ActionTec could either be defective or it could be sensitive to noise on the line if the signal isn't the greatest.

  • Constant disconnects with flashing DSL light

Hi, my Infinity 2 connection has been unusable since last Friday 8th Feb.  I get at the most a few minutes of up time then the connection drops with a flashing DSL light on the Openreach Modem.
I have tried power cycling the hub and modem, changed the cable to the socket and also relocated the modem.
I logged the call with BT on the 9th and on the 11th they marked the job as fixed, but it isnt.
This situation is very frustrating as I rely on my connection heavily for home and vpn to work but there seems to be no progress in a resolve.

I phoned  the helpline in the end and the guy the other end actually did a line test and found an issue.  Apparently an engineer is booked but cannot come out until 21st Feb!!!  That will be nearly 2 weeks downtime.  I have not had the appointment in confirmed in black or white which is not reassuring either.
Really annoyed as when I had adsl with 02 any issue (which was very rare) got resolved either next day or within the promised 3 days.
I also didn't have to chase them to resolve it and they Defo didn't mark a job as fixed until it actually was.
Not very impressed by BT at all.  I have phone, Bt Vision and Infinity 2 with them so I pay them enough every month.

  • Received modem on Tuesday, still no DSL light

My PM to eircomAlan got ignored, so I post it here. I received my modem on Tuesday, landline got activated last week, but I still can't use broadband as there is no DSL light. As I pay for the service since 07/07, it would be nice if I could actually use it. Please sort this out.

    Hi Jamagrewis
I have run some tests on your line and can confirm that there is an indication of major fault on the line which might be contributing to the broadband not working.
To get this issue resolved, please call our technical team on 1890 260 260 or chat with them via www.eircom.ie/chatnow.
Once this issue is resolved, please let me know and I will put a credit on your account as compensation for days you were without services.
I hope this helps and I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused.
    Thanks

  • Flashing DSL light and no internet since yesterday

I've been remarkably pleased with my BT broadband since it was installed a while back, a few hiccups with slow speeds very occasionally but on the whole very happy. Someone did warn me that I'd be very happy until I had a problem and then I would go crazy again, but am trying to avoid that!
Basically, when I left my house for work yesterday my broadband was working fine, when I got in yesterday evening I had a flashing DSL light which I've had ever since, and am trying to make do with the meagre allowance I have left on my phone and using 3G hotspot for now for urgent internet related stuff,
I've tried the BT fault finder, which says there is no network fault, and tried the broadband troubleshooter, which basically said I wasn't using a BT Home Hub so would I like to pay through the nose for a BT expert...  I'm thinking there must be some communication down the line for it to be able to tell I'm not using a Home Hub?
I'm using a netgear wireless router.  I've rebooted it, still get flashing light.  Have switched off and left for 10 minutes in case of some kind of overheat - still get flashing light.  Have checked wires and cables all firmly connected.
What are my next steps, I'm trying to avoid helpline hell until I've exhausted any other reasonable options.
Is a router likely to suddenly go wrong, or is it more likely a BT fault?
    Thanks.

have you tried connecting to test socket with a new filter to see it that helps?
as phone works try quiet line test  dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

  • Linksys WAG120N DSL light problem

    Hi!
Yesterday I bought the  Linksys Wireless-N Home ADSL2+ Modem Router WAG120N (Annex-A version). I configured the modem/router and it was working very well. Today I was surfing the internet just fine and I left my computer for a few minutes, when I came back I noticed that there is no internet connection. The internet light on the modem was no longer on, and the DSL one was blinking. I turned off the device and then turned it back on but the issue was still present. I tried restoring the factory default settings and configuring the modem again but nothing seems to help (resetting the modem, turning off every device connected to it and restarting the modem/router). The DSL light keeps blinking, turns off for a couple seconds and then starts blinking again. The internet light only appears when I restart the modem and it flashes red just after turning the device on. I thought that there may be an issue with my ISP, but I connected my previous modem and it works just fine. I have no idea what's going on. What's really weird is that it was working just fine yesterday and today nothing seems to help. Do you guys have any ideas what may be the problem here?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

fter spending hour's/days/weeks on reconfiguring/reflashing, checked with ISP side etc. I read numourous blogs/message, contacted Cisco/Linksys . Even I reflashed with thrid party firmware like Tomato, OpenWRT. Nothing worked. Even every message says better to throw this useless product.
Finally, I make a decisision to work on two options.
    1. reflash with router with backward version - V1.00.12.(Just google you would find it from unauthorised sources)
    2. If it doesn't work then throw the product in dustbin.
Believe me the option 1 worked and from last 2 weeks, I haven't faced any disconnection. And every device Xbox, Smart TV, smart phone is working with expected internet speed.
I would keep this configuration/firmware till it works and if same issue occur then opt for option 2.
I would recommend everyone to opt for option 1. It would really solve your problem. Otherwise you know the second option very well.
    All the best.

  • Actiontec / Verizon GT704WG Ver B - DSL Light Blinking

    Hi,
I just recently signed up for Verizon High Speed Internet and have received my start-up kit.  I have been trying this whole week to get my internet working.  Inside the package was the Actionec GT704WG Version B Gateway to setup my DSL.  I have everything connected right, but cannot connect to the internet.
I am running Windows XP and when I open up the Internet Connections folder, it shows that I am Connected, but the Internet Light does not illuminate and I never have seen it light up.  The DSL Light blinks and flashes.
I have called tech support and they say they can't help me over the phone but verify the DSL and phone lines pass their test.
I have no internet and my frustration continues to build for Verizon.  Has anyone encountered the same issue with DSL and this gateway?

#1 The power light is green?
#2 When was your SRD (Service Ready Date)?
#3 Did you connect DSL filters to everthing deice that connects to the phone line, but NOT the DSL modem?

  • DSL light continues to blink, customer service unhelpful

    Hello,
I am visiting my family for the time being and the only Internet they can get around here is Verizon DSL, which stinks but hey it's still Internet.
However, the DSL light on the Westell Versalink 327W modem continues to blink and we can't get any Internet service. Having Xfinity at home, I have no idea how to help them and customer service was absolutely no help, insisting the problem was on our end. Anyone else having this issue? How is it resolved?
    Thanks for your time.

Try plugging the DSL modem into the test port at the network interface. If the light goes solid they have a problem in the house. If it continues to blink then they have to call Verizon to send out a technician to repair the line.
