Modem/hp printer conflict

I have a apple usb dial up modem which works fine until I plug in my new HP PSC 1410 all in one printer to the usb port. When I then try to use the modem everything freezes until I remove the printer.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Richard

Great support from Apple - the guy at AppleCare took me through a set of steps to first check the hard disk and then reinstall the OS. Whatever we did worked, all is fine now.

  • Any suggestions for an all-in-one "cable modem router print server" (N)

any suggestions for an all-in-one "cable modem router print server" (N)?

If that's a problem with your cable company, change the company.
If your cable company is not able to provide you with a cable modem which gets you full performance for their service why would you bother with that company or try to make it better than them?
If you subscribe to a 100 Mbit/s service they must be able to provide you with a modem that does 100 Mbit/s and be able to demonstrate you 100 Mbit/s on your cable.
If they are unable to provide you with a modem which does 100 Mbit/s and thus cannot demonstrate that the service they have installed in fact can do 100 Mbit/s but only give you a 50 Mbit/s because that's the best they have, why bother buying yourself a better modem to find out whether or not their service does what it promises or not??
In addition, an integrated device won't get you better performance. On the contrary, consumer devices are generally single CPU (and core) devices. It's usually running some Linux or similar. If a single process gets overloaded it can drag down the performance of the whole device. For instance, let's say there is a bug in the print server software of the router. You print something and it hangs and the print server process on the router runs wild. Now the CPU is fully loaded and the routing performance will go down. If there is a bug in the routing software it will bring down the whole device and you can't even print.
You'll get the best performance if you use dedicated devices because then one device cannot overload another. Get a modem. Get a wireless ethernet router. Get a printer with integrated print server. That's far better.

  • Airport Extreme Base Station and DSL modem, IP address Conflict issues

I recently set up DSL service in my apartment. I have ATT yahoo DSL modem, and an Airport extreme base station plugged into it. The network works fine with my Vista PC connected to it, but when I try to connect my macbook to the network I get errors telling me the IP address the macbook wants to use is already in use, and my PC gives me an IP address conflict error.
The internet is fine, and the modem is configured automatically, so I think it must be a problem with the way the network is set up or the network settings on my macbook...
    any ideas?

    All,
I recently posted what I believe to be a similar/identical issue. See my post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1378849
I have not changed my AEBS to "Off (Bridge Mode)" yet, because everything currently 'works' but I continue to get the occasional "Double NAT" warning suggesting I switch the AEBS to bridge mode. When this happens, I lose connection to the internet and need to unplugged both the AEBS and my modem to re-establish a connection to the internet and the external HD I have connected to the AEBS.
My question for Jmiller1138, do you continue to get the "Double NAT" warning even when you changed your AEBS to "Off (Bridge Mode)"? I am hesitant to change my AEBS to bridge mode since I'm assuming I'll need to totally reconfigure my entire network (meaning both the AirPort Extremes, my wireless HP printer, and my firewalls on my PCs).
The ignoring of the warning (i.e. closing the AirPort Utility without updating the AEBS) is what triggers the need to reset my AEBS and modem. Not fun.
I guess I'll just need to bite the bullet and set the AEBS to bridge mode . . . yes?

  • 10.4.8 and HP Printer conflict

I'd like to report a big, honking, piece of worthless equipment in my closet... My HP Color Laserjet 4500 was rendered inoperable after the recent update to OS 10.4.8. I called HP but they couldn't help me. It is clearly a driver/system conflict. The latest driver on the HP site was released last April. I tried Gutenprint, but it doesn't work either. The printer prints blank sheet after blank sheet and won't stop till I unplug it. Any ideas??
    Thanks,
    Shari

OK...every time I rage at Apple, it turns out that there was a way out after all. This time, I went to the HP website, found the Knowledge Base (or whatever their's is called) document that walked me through the steps whenever "your printer is printing multiple blank documents."
I believe the mechanical shutter for the printing drum was stuck. I did a number of things to the printer, among them was tweaking the shutter by hand. Anyway, after following the steps and then reinstalling the printer software. Restarting. All is well in my world between my Macs and my 7 year old HP 4500n Color Laser Printer.
I hope everyone else has the same good fortune.
    Thanks.

I hope this amplifies and doesn't hijack your thread....
My ppc mini's USB modem also hangs up when I access a flash drive (not just mount, I think,) and also if I remember correctly when I use an SD card.
The USB modem is plugged directly into the back of the mini. A powered "IOGear USB 2.0 HUB w/ 6 Ports & 12 in 4 Memory Card Reader Writer" combo thingie goes to the other USB port on the mini. Only my USB mouse runs off a keyboard USB port. I thought putting the modem on a separate mini USB port from everything else would buffer it, but I guess not.
My OS is up to date with available patches. I'm in the process of searching the archives right after I post; surely this issue has come up for other end losers.
new old stock ppc mini Mac OS X (10.4.8) sure is small and quiet

  • Modem   Router   Printer

    Hello,
I have a little problem. My setup is: Modem + Time Capsule Router in Bridge Mode + Printer connected to Modem via LAN Cable. Everything was fine.
Now I have done the opposite. I set my Time Capsule as a Router and put the Modem into Bridge Mode. Which has 4 LAN Ports. Port 1 is connected to the Router and Port 2 to the Printer.
Everything works fine, except that the Printer is not found in the Network anymore.
What I have done so far, connected the Printer to the Router directly and found in the Printer Settings under IP Address: 10.0.1.2, as Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 and under Standard Gateway: 10.0.1.1
Now I would like to put the Printer back to Modem and connect it there, but will it work? I'm not sure what number I have to put in...
I can't have the Printer connected to the Router because the Router is placed in a whole different room. I mean it used to work before...

The printer IP was, when I remember correctly when it was connected to the Modem: 169.291. and so on.
Righto.. that is what I wanted.. and that is a self generated IP address which means it cannot be reached.
What you have now is correct on the TC side of things. You have public IP on the TC wan port exactly as you should.
I don't know why you get double NAT if the dhcp is on in the modem.. that doesn't make sense since you have static IP.. but accept that as it maybe.
The solution is simple.. as I said.. the printer must connect to the TC.
If you are able to reach the modem from IP behind the TC which btw amazes me.. then set a static IP on the printer, of 10.1.10.100 and then ping that address from the computer and see if it responds.. no luck?? If it responds try printing to it.. but I doubt it will work. I think you are seeing the main modem because it is spoofing the public IP to you. You won't see other clients connected to the modem but worth a try.
I presume where the TC is now you do have an ethernet cable from modem to TC??
If that is the case and your internet speed is not greater than 100mbit.. you can use ethernet splitters.
This is dirty and horrible but it should work.. a single ethernet cable has 4 pairs. Gigabit requires all the pairs but 100mbit can use two pairs.. so you effectively have two ethernet cables by using splitters at each end.
These are cheap as chips off ebay.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-RJ45-Splitter-1to2-Network-Ethernet-Connecter-Adapter- Newest-AT-US-689yu-/261457920088?pt=US_Ethernet_Cables_RJ_45_8P8C_&hash=item3ce0 1b4058
Just look up ethernet splitter. You need to buy a pair of them.
Use one link for your modem to TC wan port.
And use one for your printer to TC lan port.
Then you have the printer connected where it should be.. to the TC lan.
    It is dirty but works.
The way I would prefer to do it is using an airport express.. wireless extend to the TC, and plugged by ethernet to the printer.. that makes the printer a part of the TC network. You don't need a fancy new express.. a gen1 AE would work just as well.
    Alternatively EOP (homeplug adapters).
The very best is run ethernet.. but that is expensive to do properly inside the walls.

  • USB760 modem + wireless printer

Is is possible to set-up a wireless all-in-one printer if using a VZW USB 760 modem? Do I also have to have a wireless router in order to do this?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? Do you mean it is not recognizing the wireless router?

  • Phone modem and printer

I have an HP LaserJet 4000 printer with an external phone modem.
When a print job is sent to the modem you can hear it negotiate, most of the time it will send, but sometimes it sends blank pages, sometimes the print fails.
After printing, the modem will hang up approximately 110 seconds later.
The printer will flash between data received and ready.
In order to bring it back to ready, you have to hit cancel job.
Can you tell me if the issue is with the printer or the modem?

Router model Cisco. Connection was established but no printouts. Went back to factory settings and reset printer to Default Printer. It works! Haven't a clue how though. Thanks for the reply Associate Dean.

  • HP 7500 printer and hp 2540 printer conflicts on same network

I have a HP 7580 printer conected to my router.  We bought a wireless 2540 for printing from the iPad.  Now when both printers are on, the 7880 prints mirrored images.  I have to turn off mirrored image in the print preferences each time I print. Is there a setting that will correct this?

    Hi dctex,
I understand you are now having to turn the mirrored printing settings off each time you print. Instead of opening the print preferences each time you print, open the Print Preferences in the Device and Printers and change the settings there. By modifying the setting in the Device and Printers, you are creating the default print option. I am not sure how this got changed or why this started happening, but I suspect this will resolve the issue.
Here are some document with instructions in case you would like detailed instructions.
Changing Print Settings in Windows 7
Changing Print Settings in Windows 8
If you are using Vista, the instructions will be the same as Windows 7. If you are Using XP let me know and I will find instructions for you, if you'd like.
Please let me know if this does resovle the issue, or if the issue persisits. Thanks.

  • IPod/Printer Conflict??

Got a new HP Photosmart Premium C309 and installed it. After that ITunes wouldn't recognize any of our Ipods (Classic and 2 different generations of nanos). So I uninstalled the printer, and ITunes did fine with recognizing and syncing the Ipods. Then I reinstalled the printer, and again, ITunes wouldn't recognize or sync the Ipods. In fact, trying to sync the ipods would cause ITunes to freeze up. In the process also uninstalled and reinstalled ITunes, ran antivirus and spyware scans, and defragged my c drive. Tried to get help from Geeksquad, but no one there could help. Any ideas?

Is it a USB printer reddy? If so, you might be getting a power drain issue (not enough power getting to the other ports to sustain a connection when the printer is plugged in).
Have you tried connecting the printer to a powered USB hub and seeing if you then get a connection with the ipods while the printer is plugged in?

  • Hp officejet pro 8600 plus will print but won't scan.

Recently I had some kind of software conflict with my printer in Windows 7 so I deleted it and reloaded the printer software. I selected enable scanning at set up. It is a network printer and everyone can print to the printer. When I went to scan today the printer sees my computer and will let me select scan but I get a screen error on the computer and then the printer says the scan was unsuccessful. I checked the IP address which of course is good.
The Error says "Scanner Unreachable" X Scanner communication cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on..... If you are installed using a cable check it...... If you insalled this printer by IP address then you might need to update IP address....... If you are running firewall software, it may be blocking the scan communication. Go to HP.com/go/wirelessprinting for help. -"
I turned off my firewall and my virus software and I get the same error. I restarted the computer, router, modem, and printer a couple of times. The frustrating thing is the printer sees the computer from the touch screen but just won't complete the scan.
    Any suggestions?

  • Printing problem with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm running windows XP sp3 on all of my  machines with this printer{HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m} wireless network.Recently everything starts  to print one inch lower on the paper and cuts off the bottom of each document I try to print.I print mostly from microsoft word 2007,and I have checked all the settings in word.It is almost like the printer skips an invisible header then starts to print the document.Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DSL modem HW.  There might be an issue with how print data is being routed though.
Please try the second experiment where you blank-out the default gateway and DNS entries from the printer's internal web configuration page.  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the DSL modem, the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the DSL modem and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.  See if this corrects the printing speed.

  • How do I find the IP address of a wireless printer (via bonjour) on my Airport Extreme?

I can see the MAC address of my macbook and the printer using the AirPort Utility, but I can't find the actual IP. Attempting to connect through the printer utility puts:http://hp88388e.local./ in the URL, but the page just hangs. isn't there a numerical address associated with the printer? how can I find it?

Thanx for the help! It was not the problem, however. I fixed the issue. Here is what happened:
Because the HP D110 printer was set up manually with the previous UBEE wireless router cable modem, the printer's IP address stayed fixed at 192.168.0.238 even after I performed a "factory reset" through the touch-screen menu. bonjour is apparently able to "see" the printer, and even establish a physical layer of communication with the printer, but it is unable to transfer data to and from the printer. Thus, while the network detected and could establish a link, no tasks could be accomplished (i.e. ink levels, paper out, actual printing, etc). additionally, the link to go to the printer webpage was dead (that was my first clue).
I tried hooking it up via the USB port on the airport extreme, and it would work perfectly. After I set it up, it automatially printed a test page and I discovered that it was still 192.168.0.238 - even though the airport extreme had it listed in the logs as 10.0.1.3. I figured that was the problem, but I was still unable to log into the printer webpage to reset the IP on the printer side.
Because I was unable to force the airport extreme to assign the printer to the existing address, I had to keep playing around with the on-screen menu. Evenually I found that inside the wireless menu, there is an option to reset all wireless parameters, and once I did this, I deleted the printer and added it again from the print/fax utility. this time, it worked wirelessly, and the printer web page could be accessed.
As an aside, the apple interface to the print/scan/fax settings were far smoother, faster, and more intuative than the HP utilities written by HP on windows! Hope this helps anyone who is also stuck.

  • HP Envy 4500 won't print from computer

    Hi,
My HP Envy 4500 has been working perfectly for quite some time now.  Unfortunately, it has stopped printing from my Dell laptop, running Windows7. It scans to the laptop just fine.  It copies fine, and it prints from my iPhone fine.
I have looked at a ton of posts and tried many things:
*uninstall/reinstall wirelessly (at least 8 times) -- via the https://123.hpconnected.com/activate/woobe/ENVY4500 site
    *uninstall/reinstall via USB
*ran print/scan doctor utility (or whatever it is called) and been told everything looks fine
*sending a test page via one of HP's tool is fine, however, printing the internal test page via the HP tool fails
I am losing my mind and would really appreciate some help.
    Thank you!

    Hello @JNZM,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the issue that you're experiencing when trying to print from your Windows 7 computer to your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps you have completed prior to reaching out for support. At this time I will be running you through some troubleshooting steps to check the actual print system on your computer. The Print Spooler is what controls printing from Windows computers. It is built into the Operating System. If the Print Spooler is experiencing issues than you will experience printing conflicts. Should the Print Spooler be experiencing a conflict, the software and scanning feature for the printer will not be affected. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
    Step 1: Check Print Spooler:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start type services.msc and hit enter on your keyboard
When the Services window opens scroll down until you see Print Spooler
Click on Print Spooler once just to highlight it
If you see Start in the top left hand corner than that indicates that  your Print Spooler is in fact Stopped (not good). But we will leave this for now.
If you see Stop or Restart in the top left hand corner than this indicates that your Print Spooler is actually Started. Please click on Stop to temporarily Stop the service.
Minimize this window as we will need to come back here
    Step 2: Check Spooler Folder:
    Click on your Start menu
    Select Computer
In the Computer window select your C Drive
    Click on Windows
    Click System32
    Click Spool
Click PRINTERS. You may get a permissions warning, just Continue past this.
The PRINTERS folder should be empty. If there is any files in here they are corrupted print jobs. Right click on anything in this folder and 'delete' the files.
    Close the PRINTERS folder
    Step 3: Start Spooler:
Reopen the Services window we previously minimized
Click on Print Spooler again to highlight it
Click on Start in the top left corner
If you get an error message please take note of it
If the Print Spooler starts successfully you will see 'Stop and Restart' as your options in the top left
Once the Print Spooler has started please test printing again. If printing fails, or if the Print Spooler fails to start, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 4: Run Microsoft Fixit:
I'm going to have you run a Microsoft Print Fixit Tool to identify and correct any print system issues or Registry corruptions on the computer.
Please click here to access the Microsoft Fixit website
Once the page opens under section (2) select Print, fax, scan, share or save.
Under section (3) select Run Now for Diagnose and fix printer and printing problems automatically
Once the download is complete please follow the onscreen instructions to run the Microsoft Tool
Once the Fix has run, please test printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. You can also say 'thanks' for responding by clicking the 'thumbs up' icon below. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • My printer (HP Photosmart D7360) won't print from my computer.

When I try to print something like an Open Office  (.odt) or Word (.doc) document,  I  get no error message, it just doesn't print. The same thing happens when I try to print out recipes that I've downloaded, or e-mail. When I go to "printer settings" I get a message that says: "No default printer found. Please choose a printer and try again."  When I click on OK, I get a screen up that says:  "Printer Setup/ Name: (((hi-lited)))HP Photosmart D7300 Series/ Status: Default printer; Ready/ Type: HP Photosmart D7300 Series/Location: USB001/ Comment: (((none)))" Below this are 4 buttons, (Options) (((alone on the left))), (OK) and (Cancel) (((Center right))) and (Help) (((alone on the right))). If I click on the "OK" button, the screen disappears, and nothing else happens. Exactly the same thing happens with the "Cancel" button. The Control Panel/Devices & Printers screen shows the HP Photosmart D7300 series as the default printer.  Without questions, I don't know what else to say. This is a great pain in the butt.

    Hello @CBJack,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when trying to print from certain programs on your Windows 7 computer to your HP Photosmart D7360 Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue. It does appear that there is a driver conflict occuring on your computer. That may mean that your driver is not correctly installed, or the correct driver is installed but certain programs aren't 'agreeing' with that driver. I will be running you through some troubleshooting steps below to isolate this issue and resolve this issue. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool:
To start troubleshooting I am going to have you download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix printing' issues for you. Should any driver, software, or connection conflicts be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve those conflicts for you. Please click here to download the Tool. Once the Tool has downloaded please run the 'Fix Printing' option under the Tool. Once the Tool has completed please test printing again. Should no issues be found under the HP Print and Scan Doctor, but the printing conflict still occurs, there is likely a driver issue occuring between your printer driver and the programs that you're experiencing an issue printing from. Please proceed with the steps below to resolve this.
    Step 2: Alter Driver:
I am going to have you install an alternate print driver on your HP Photosmart. Once the alternate driver is installed I will have you test printing to verify if the issue is resolved.
    Click on your Start menu
    Select Devices and Printers
In the Devices and Printers folder right click on your HP Photosmart D7360 Printer and left click on Printer Properties
Left click on the Advanced tab
    Left click on New Driver
When the New Driver window opens just hit 'next' until you see a list of Manufacturers on the left and a list of Printers on the right.
Select HP as the Manufacturer on the left
Select Deskjet 9800 as the printer on the right. If Deskjet 9800 doesn't appear than select 'Windows Update' on the bottom left and once the update completes you will be able to select Deskjet 9800.
After selecting Deskjet 9800 hit next to complete the New Driver Wizard
Under the Printer Properties window select 'Apply' but don't hit OK
    Select the General tab
Rename your printer back to HP Photosmart D7360 Printer
    Hit OK
Lastly, right click on your HP Photosmart D7360 Printer one more time and left click on Printing Preferences
Left click on the Paper/Quality tab
Left click on the 'Normal' dropdown for Print Quality on the bottom right and change this to Fast Normal
    Hit Apply and OK
Now that the alternate driver is added in please try printing from the programs you were previously experiencing issues with.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!
