Modem internet disconnects when screen in closed

when I use skype for many hours, i close the screen to have it switch off. after some time, the internet connection breaks. It does not with the same system windows 7 and the same modem on a desktop machine, where I do not use screen off, hence my suspicion of it being the  culprit.
is there any windows setting which regulates some hardware functionality, which could lead to connection break? I find it unlikely that it could be caused by some failure of my  lenovo x200.
what is strange is that the system does not hibernate or otherwise noticeably change its mode - just the internet. how to prevent connection break when the screen is off?

Look at this setting:
Lenovo Power Manager -> Global Power Settings -> Events -> Lid closed -> Advanced -> Stay online for
Set the time period, from 1 to 99 minuts.
x220 | i5-2520m | Intel ssd 320 series | Gobi 2000 3G GPS | WiFi
x220 | i5-2520m | hdd 320 | Intel msata ssd 310 series | 3G GPS | WiFi
Do it well, worse becomes itself

  • Ichat/internet disconnecting when lid is closed

    Hello,
Whenever i'm online using ichat or I doing anything internet-related, when i shut the cover of the computer everything signs off....i get disconnected from the internet completely and kicked off of ichat/aim. how can i shut this off?
    Thank you!

Closing the lid puts the computer to sleep, which closes all of its network connections except for the ability to wake it up by sending it a magic packet over the Ethernet interface.

  • Lose internet connection when lid is closed, but have to have it closed.

Hello, been enjoying my Macbook for some time now, but an issue arises. Everytime I close the lid, it goes into sleep mode and I lose my wireless internet connection, now I understand it was designed this way, but it makes it hard to download large files on the internet, especially since my house attracts dust pretty easily and it gets on the display.
I have to send and receive large files (recording program files) over MSN messenger, but I keep getting disconnected when the lid is shut, any way around this without having to download a program ?
I don't think running the Macbook lid-closed can create heat problems since it was designed to run this way when an external monitor is attached, am I right ? So shouldn't we be able to chose wether it goes to sleep or not when we want ? ... Big issue, at least for me ...
    Francis.

You may want to take a look at this program called Sleepless. Should do the trick for you.

  • T440p: internet disconnects when using BT mouse

I have the 2x2 Thinkpad wireless card and when I use my bluetooth mouse the internet disconnects and I get a "limited connection". I have the latest drivers for everything.

    Hi iphetamine and Jakoob,
Remember that this is users helping users here, moderated by volunteers like me. Although there is some Lenovo presence, they can't patrol the entire community. They do try to help with some of the broader issues.
Any possibility you're in a marginal WiFi reception area, and Bluetooth interferes with it?
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • WiFi disconnected when screen locked on Lumia 920

    Hello,
As far as I could see, this issue is being discussed on some other issues.
My issue is simple: my WiFi disconnects when my screen locks (depending on the timing I set..3 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.). Is it normal? If not, how can it be solved?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is normal for your phone at the moment. However, Microsoft will be releasing an update soon which includes a change to this, so you won't have too long to wait.

  • Internet disconnects when trying to connect a vpn on a different user account on the same computer

Im trying to have one user account with my real ip address and another user account on windows 8 with a vpn connection. Everytime i switch (i dont logout i just lock the user) then try to connect a vpn on the other user account the internet disconnects
on the other user account. It's like it wants to change my entire internet connection to use the vpn instead of having a seperate connection on each user account. is there a way around this or am i stuck having to use two laptops? I also unchecked
Use default gateway on remote network on the vpn.

    Hi,
Try to temporary disable firewall to see if the same issue occurs.

This is definitely not the answer.  Why is it marked as the answer?

  • MacBook internet disconnects when I connect BB10 with USB

Everytime I connect my phone to my laptop via the usb (supplied with orignial device) the internet on my MacBook disconnects and I lose my VPN connection.
It seems the Z10 creates a new 'Blackberry' Network connection which overrides my computer settings. If I disable this connection it is simply recreated the next time I connect my Z10 and my internet disconnects and I lose my VPN connection.
Any idea how I can prevent this? I could do with a setting to switch this behaviour on or off rather than the Z10 assuming I want to use it to connect.

    Hey 8lettersuk,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
I have a few questions before I get started:
    1. Are you using Cisco AnyConnect as the VPN client on your Mac?
    2. What version of BlackBerry 10 are you currently running?  Go to Settings>About to find this information.
I look forward to your reply.
    Cheers.

  • Why lose internet speed when laptop is closed

My connection to the internet goes from 10mg to less than 1mg when I attach an HP screen to my MacBook Pro...when I shut the laptop?

    According to this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz band between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel.

  • Internet Disconnects when I try to downloand iTunes

I need to update my iTunes version, and when I click on download, the first box pops up asking "Run" or "Save," and before I can even click on anything, I am completely disconnected from the Internet. This seems to happen with random sites -- some I can download, some I cannot.

Check your internet security settings, they may be set too restrictive.

  • Standby when open and on when screen is closed... Help!  ???

I accidentaly closed my Mac as I was watching Apple TV. I quickly opened it again and and the screen was black. I closed it and opened it again, but the screen stayed black. I removed the battery and turned it completely off several times, but the screen is not responding.
It seems to be in standby when I open the screen and turn on as I close it.
Can somebody help me reverse this - fix this?
    Thanx...

You mean that, after closing and immediately opening lid you cannot use your mac any more? Display is always black, even after force restart? Strange...
‘I tried making it a hard disc on my iMac, but it won't let me do that either.’ – you mean restarted into Target Mode, correct? i.e. connected via firewire cable to another mac, and by pressing t after chime. BTW, do you hear the specific chime after pressing power button? If in target mode, is it displayed like an external disk on your iMac desktop?
If not, I suspect it was mere hazard that it happened when you closed and opened lid, it jsut happened in that moment, and this has nothing to do with that, but with something more serious.

  • Wireless internet disconnected when upgrade to itunes 8.1

Did anybody know why my wireless connected was disabled when I upgrade the itunes to 8.1. It totally remove my wireless connection from my computer. I have window xp sp3. Thanks,

I am having the same problem. I restarted my computer, router and modem a bunch of times and nothing worked. In a separate discussion "Topic : After upgrade 8.1 Itunes can't connect to Internet", they say it has to do with firewall software, particularly Norton or Symantec. It is recommended to remove the program using the Norton Removal Tool. However, my Dell came with McAfee and I looked on my list of programs and Norton is not listed. iTunes has full access to the internet in my McAfee firewall so I do not know what else to do. Anyone able to help?

  • Internet disconnected when I print documents?

I have a HP2460 deskjet connected to a usb and it says connected by virtual port. However, when I print my Sky internet connection is dropped. I am using a home computer with Xp and not using the wireless connection but a broadband via phone cable. Although the Sky router is wireless activated. I have seen the replies but they seem to apply to wireless connections. Is this issue also connected to the error message I occassionally get from windows referring to ip conflicts on the system. Any simple instruction would be gratefully received.

@Oldgolfer, I see that you're having an issue with the printer dropping the internet connection from your router.
I would suggest doing a hard reset with the printer and router.
    Hard Reset:
Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall
    Wait 30 sec
Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall (Make sure the printer is plugged into the wall and not a surge protector)
    Let me know the outcome.
    Router:
    Restore network defaults
Unplug the power cord from the router
    Wait 30 sec
Plug the power cord back into the router

  • Internet disconnecting when using WPA

About 3 weeks ago my wireless connection started dropping on a regular basis. I would be on the web, and then i would not be able to access any pages. Everytime, I would have to power cycle the router and the wireless would reconnect....then about an hour later, same issue.
I contacted Verizon tech suppot and he could not connect to my router because I was using WPA for security instead of the default WEP.  The tech told me that Verizon was trying to push out some updates or something and that they could not because I was not using THEIR recommended security settings of 64 bit WEP.....he said I would have to revert to WEP or I would continue to have problems.
I reverted back to WEP and have had no problems at all. Everytime I try to put WPA back, I have the same issue.
    Anyone else having this issue?
Personally, if this is true, I'm not going to be very happy about this. So either the tech was an idiot or Verizon is being **bleep** by not allowing people to use a different security setting.

thats what i was thinking too.  I'll have to check the setup for WPA, I have the Westell 9100 router, so I'm not sure it has the same setup as the ActionTec.
Thanks for the info. I'll check tonight/tomorrow and post my findings.

  • Modem gets disconnected

I am using my nokia phone for getting Internet connection to my computer. As you know the phone acts as modem. The modem gets disconnected when the time reach 2 hours. It disconnects automatically when it is 2 hours. I had tried in different sim card and different settings etc  but the result is same. I tried installing latest PC suite and nokia OVI suite but the result is same. The modem automatically disconnects when it is 2 hours. I can't find a way to extend the time limit. I called sim card support, but they are not able to get the exact reason. When the connection is established in the phone using wap, it stays long for more than 14 hours. But when it acts as modem it correctly disconnects when the time is 2 hours. Please help to to increase the time limit of modem connection. I am using windows 7 32 bit. My phone software is up to date and I had tried after restoring the phone to factory settings also. I want to know how to adjust the time limit of the modem to stay connected for long. How to change the time limit for modem connection in the computer?
    Thank you.

My 5230 has almost the same problem, but is also a bit random, sometimes disconnecting within 5 minutes or may actually stay on for many hours of downloading inactivity then disconnect within 5 minutes of my basic interaction, whereas I would have to reclick on the Ovi Internet Connect button to regain access which does gets very annoying as it should only switch of if I either decide for it to or if I set it to switch off automatically. At least make it so that the OVI suite keeps trying to reconnect and a bit later on indicate that there was a loss of signal as it's still attempting to reconnect.
I have also tried all the updates as stated, except for having call sim card support. The phone itself doesn't seem to have any such conflicts. I was about to switch to a different mobile phone company entirely, but thought maybe there's a quick solution, especially when I need to give all types of life starting recommendations.
    Windows XP + Mobilicity + 5230 + Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0
    Please and Thank You

  • Feature request Lock workstation (Win+L) when Lid is closed ~ power manager option

Under "Events" in Power Manager windows there are any options what should happen when you use this or that hotkey or when you close laptop lid.
But what it really misses is an option to just Lock the laptop - same pressing Win+L
Can you consider adding that option, when I close laptop lid to do just that?

I don't think that would ever be a feature of power manager since locking the screen is not a power management function, but check this out:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-77008
If your thinkpad has a camera you can configure it to lock automatically anytime there is no keyboard/mouse activity AND a face is not detected after xx seconds (including when screen is closed).  It works great and I use it on my T500.
I realize this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I offer it as a way to lock your screen if you can't remember to press Win+L before closing lid.
