Modem not transferring internet to my router (wrt160n)

I have a Wrt160n router and a Motorola sb120 modem (provided by comcast after my original modem got fried by lightning, no I didn't have my router hooked up when that happened), I have been having trouble trying to get the modem to send the internet signal to my router. I have tried mac address clone that was suggested on this forum for someone with a different router but still no internet to my computer, its all hooked up through Ethernet cables, the computer I have it hooked up with a hard line is running windows seven. When I plug the modem straight to the computer it works and I have internet but when I hook up the router between them it has no internet. Has anyone had the same problem or have seen this before?

I just tried that three times, first I unplugged everything minus the screw in cable from the wall, waited thirty seconds plugged in the power cable waited for all the lights to come on course minus the PC activity light, all four came on solid, then plugged the Ethernet cable from the modem into the internet port on the back of the router which had no cables plugged in and plugged in its power cable and waited for the power light to stop flashing, after it went solid the only other light on was the wireless light the internet light was still off and the modems PC activity light was still off, then I plugged in a Ethernet into out port one and plugged it into my PC and waited a few seconds, no internet I can access the router setup page by typing in the 192.168 address but no internet. I tried these steps trying to also hook it up both hardline and wirelessly with no success. Thx for the suggestion, do u happen to have any other suggestions?

  • Old imac (Tiger)not transfered internet settings to new mac (Leopard

    Hi,
I used firewire and the instructions, as prompted from my new Imac Intel Core 2 Duo to transfer my information from my old iMac power pc it tranferred iphoto and photos but not songs in itunes which I did from an external hard drive.
All my e-mails, e-mail addresses and address book contacts have not been transferred but more importantly my internet settings have not been transferred and I just cannot get in touch with the ISP.
I thought it was a simple case of my old mac sending info to the new one and away I go. I have to use the old one to post this!
Help please. Basic instructions appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi Roger,
My faith in macs has been restored! I did as you suggested re network, that didnt do the trick. So I spoke to ISP and a very simple instructions were given I unplugged the cable modem, switched off and unplugged my mac, inserted the ethernet plug, replugged the modem replugged the mac and switched the mac on. Bingo!! On line with e-mails and address book details. it has to be in that order they said.
many thanks for your help. I will post this one in case it helps others.

  • Can connect to router, but not to internet

About a week ago, my whole wireless setup stopped working. I have a BEFW11S4 v.4 router and a WPC54G v3 notebook adapter. I tried the hard reset on the router and taking to security off the wireless. I can connect to the router, but not the internet. What am I doing wrong? I can connect directly using the DSL modem.

If you are getting Ip address in the range of 192.168.1.X ....with gateway 192.168.1.1 .... change the Local Ip address to 192.168.2.1 ...click save settings ....
Do power cycle .....& see if you are online or not ....

  • Wireless Router WRT160N wired to desktop, I loose internet when wireless laptop is off.

I have the wrt160n v2 wireless router, it does not work for me.
If my XP wireless laptop is only powered ON the Vista desktop internet wired will work, I am not wired or wireless using the laptop, not in internet, only powered on.
If the laptop is off I have no internet on the desktop, still plugged thru the router.
The laptop is used and I was unsure if the built in wireless was new enough so I bought a card to go in it for wireless.
When everything is on all is well for playing on the internet times two computers, but if you turn off the laptop I have to plug the internet directly into the desktop to continue in the internet.
I started to work with tech support yesterday and they are hard to understand. I did bring in the newest firmware and still have the problems.
Can anybody help me, I really don't have the time to be on the phone for hours figuring this all out.
    Thanks

And I wish everyone that was having this problem with 160Nv2 firmware could get some kind of compensation from Linksys, but again, unfortunately, I have no control over that, not being a Linksys employee...I had a Cisco CCNA once, but it expired.....and that is as close as I will ever probably come....

  • Wireless router WRT160N will not wok

I bought this router 10-07-09. It won't stay connected to the internet. The router says that I am connected. But I don't have internet. I have called customer service and nothing helped. Sometimes if I repair the service it will work for a little while.

There is a known issue with intermittent connectivity and the Build 11 firmware for the WRT160N V2. Build 11 is the current firmware on the Linksys site. Check to see if you have Build 11 if your router is a V2.
Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firware will not work on WRT160N V1.

  • The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.

At random points throughout my laptop usage, I randomly disconnect from the internet and receive these 2 messages:
    1. The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken.
    2. The default gateway is not available.
It fixes the issue for a short period of time, but constantly happens. This is really starting to annoy me. I have no problems on any other internet, and other people i live with are connected with no issues to the internet. I have tried a number of solutions
online that has "worked" for others to no success such as resetting the router, fooling around with command prompt, and changing the performance settings to not drop internet when low on power. Does anyone have a solution for my technical problems?
I am running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo ideapad that is less than a year old. I will be honest I am not a very knowledgeable person when it comes to computers, so please use simplified explanations.

  • IPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet.

iPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet at work. The admin says the router lets my iPhone connect to LAN, but the iPhone does not have server IP to access the internet. I entered the server IP and port number in the HTTP PROXY fields but I still can not access the web. Any ideas?

You IT person should be able to sort this out.  But, they seems to be too busy or disinterested to do this.  Suggest you provide the it person with an iPhone to get interested.
Any could be lots of things.
The best you can do is to get access to the admin setup for networking on a pc?  The internet settings are all the same.  Only what names the manufactures change from OS to OS. Check and compare parameters.
Phone works to internet at home, I assume?

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none receive

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • Linksys router WRT160N

I have a network setup with a linksys wrt160n router connected to the modem form the internet provider and followed by 3 engenius access points. On these access points more than 60 PC's and smartphones are connected regularly. The problem now is that after a few minutes of connection, the connection stays, but the page I'm trying to load is not loading anymore. After waiting for 1 minute all seems OK again. This process repeats itself every 5 minutes again and again. What can be the problem and does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried if it's happening with a wired connection? How about directly to the modem? Please test it with wired connection first so that we can really check where the issue is. It seems an intermittent internet connectivity is happening. We just need to pin point where it is getting disconnected.

  • WRT54GS with Mac OS 10.6.8 and RCN cable modem not working

    Hello,
I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions, but this has not helped me solve the problem.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do? I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Since you upgraded the Router WRT54GS with the latest firmware so once reset the Router and power cycle the whole network… Then connect the Modem with Linksys Router on the Internet Port and then connect any one computer to any one of the Ethernet port on the Router [Numbered – 1, 2, 3 and 4]… Let me know the RCN connection is a DSL connection or cable connection…
So if you have a DSL connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=4020&userrole=Linksy...
So if you have a Cable Internet Connection you can refer to this link:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&vw=1&articleid=3686
As far as the wireless is concern:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page…
    # Then Click on wireless Tab create the Wireless Network Name SSID and select the channel to 6, 9, and 11… Click Save Settings...
    # Then Click on Wireless Security sub tab and select the security mode and provide the password as per the requirement… Click Save Settings...
After doing the settings try to connect the preferred network on the wireless devices and check the connectivity….

  • Connect to AX but not to internet

Hi everyone, here's my issue. I have an Airport Express connected to a Motorola cable modem and I'm trying to connect via my MacBook Pro. I've tried multiple resets of the modem and AX without improved results (the AX has been green but I won't be able to connect to the internet). I can successfully connect to the AX but I get the "Alert:No Internet Connection..." message in the Airport pulldown. The diagnostics give me the following:
    Airport (green)
    Airport Settings (green)
    Network Settings (yellow)
    ISP (green)
    Internet (red) Failed
    Server (red) Failed
When I follow the steps in the Network Diagnostics it just repeatedly tells me to reset the modem and AX.
Then the Airport Utility pops up to report on the AX problem and it says (paraphrased) that my AX does not have a valid IP address. I'm fairly new to IP settings so I don't really know what my correct IP address should be. Currently it's : 169.254.-.--
Also, the AX is flashing amber, but my roommate is able to connect to the internet through the AX...
My firewall is turned off and I am using DHCP.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

That wasn't the problem, I can connect to the AX fine from the MBP. I found some other people with the same problems on the same modem that were related to the network settings and the modem not getting along well with the AX. Previously, I had a network set up before where my roommate's Dlink router plugged into the modem then my AX plugged into his Dlink and that worked fine other than the Dlink would need to be reset every couple weeks. I'm back to that set up since it works but I'm contemplating getting a simple wired hub (we need something between the modem and the airport express to provide ethernet to the xbox 360 and ps3) that won't slow down the internet connection to the AX and won't crash on occasion.
