Modem troubles on my M70 notebook

Hi,
I have M70-159 laptop. I have used it for dial of connection to internet in NEPAL but it gave me hell lot of problem as it frequently disconnect me from ISP provider and it doesn??t connect me at standard speed. I try to uninstall and install the driver which does help me sometime but sometime not.
I used the same username and password with my desktop PC that does work very fine with out any problem in speed and it never disconnect.
I a wonder as it is Hardware problem do I need to change the modem please suggest me as my laptop is still under warranty.

Hello nage,
Right click on My computer, then click the hardware tab, 3rd on the right, then click device manager. Once there, right click on your modem, and go to properties. The last tab on the right should have an option for the computer to turn off this peripheral to save power. Make sure that is not checked, that could be why you get disconnected. As for the connection speed I doubt it is anything to change a modem over. Chances are that it is not configured to its maximum potential. Make sure that the flux is set to hardware, and that the bit parity is set to automatic etc. Hope this helps you out.

  • NTL/Virgin Cable Modem trouble... Need help please...

    Hello,
I am a new NTL user, meaning I got the confirmation letter from NTL and then when they came to install it, the entire package turned into Virgin. They promised me a 10mb line which they say I have and a week into my TV and broadband cable modem experience, they dropped the Sky Channels. I wasn't too happy about that. But I wouldn't mind so much if only my internet was as stable as they said it would be.
I am new to Cable Modems and I have always had ADSL, which I think is much more stable compared to my cable modem.
I have a supposed 10MB line and a little blue box with a strange thick wire going into it and an ethernet cable going out of it into my new Airport Extreme (Flat one).
My problem is this, aside from the fact that I constantly have drop outs and sometimes complete loss of signal, the Airport is in a fixed place no more than 3 meters from my MacMini Core Duo.
I also don't think I have a steady 10MB line, cause when I try to download files from Apple or their trailers, it is VERY slow. I came from a 4MB ADSL and it was REALY FAST! So why is Cable slower?
Am I doing something wrong here? The entire set up from Virgin was more or less non existent and they didn't help much on the phone.
How can I have a more stable line and get at least 4 MBs out of the 10MBs they claim I have....
It jumps high during a download and a few seconds later it drops to the point it simply isn't worth it...
I would appreciate any info you could give.

Any info would be really appreciated as I have spent soon 3 weeks to figure out how to have a stable and fast line and it isn't... Sometimes pages load like I was on a 56k modem!
    Please... Help...
PS. the NTL Modem is called NTL 250 that is all it is a tiny blue modem of sorts...
I am on a MacMini Core Duo which version of Airport card is in it I don't know and don't even know where to look for the info on it. But All I do know is that I often experience drops in my signal and sometimes a total loss of connection...
    Thanks

    Hi.
I've been a Telewest - now also Virgin Media customer for many years, and have been using their 10mb connection for over a year now ( are you aware that in May they're upping it to 20mb)
The speed of the connection is quite erratic, but for me has improved since xmas.
Here is a site that will check your speed, if you still have problems, call them up, and even though they're not very Mac friendly, insist that they come round and check it.
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
By the way, I called them when they lost Sky, and threatened to leave - they gave me a 20 quid/month discount - give it a go!

  • Faxing with usb modem trouble

I found out the you could fax right from the Mac and was thrilled, but hit a snag when I discovered that you could only do it through a analog modem that connected directly to your phone line (DSL or ADSL doesn't work) so I bought the apple usb modem, at first I could send faxes just fine but couldn't receive them, so I tried attaching a 2wire filter on the phone line too filter the DSL out. Now I can receive part of the fax, but only part of it. Some times half the page and sometimes jst one line. what am I doing wrong now????? Please help I've been trying for 2 weeks to get this going, and I'm so close, but this ain't horse shoes. Going Crazy.
    Thanks.

What happens if you take the DSL modem out of the picture altogether (unplug it and any DSL filters from the phone wall jack) and plug in the  USB modem into the phone wall jack all by itself? Can you send/receive faxes okay then?

  • Modem troubles

we're using a 2801 router with mgcp for bri interfaces and fxs interfaces.
When an analoge phone is connected at the fxs port, it's working fine. A fax or modem is not working correctly. sometimes it's okay, but most of the time is lost the connection. Here's part of the config :
    voice-port 0/3/3
    no echo-cancel enable
    no vad
    compand-type a-law
    cptone NL
    timeouts interdigit 8

mgcp modem passthrough voip mode nse
mgcp modem passthrough voip codec g711alaw
    no mgcp fax t38 ecm
    mgcp fax t38 inhibit

your configuratrion needs to be looked into very well.are you using the right codecs.
also you can switch to a digital phones that has more feautures, appplications and lastly locate a more powerful modem than the one you are presently using

  • Booklet 3g builin modem trouble

    hi. just buy booklet 3g.
try many sin cards many operators - gsm, cdma, wcdma.
windows massage - "sim locked by pin". but when i input pin windows message - "no network covarage".  all my sim cards working with external modems. sim cards not locked i cheked.
in manuals with booklet i have a smal paper with AT&T. maybe i have a locked by AT&T booklet?
    how i can check this?
P.S. also on botoom my laptop i see a some serial - "Type:RX-75"
Please help. thx for help. sory for pure english

the only thing that i have been able to figure is to use it with the installed ovi.
if you have not done so already, run the booklet software updater.  it will update and add a widget that will be available.
after it is done, you can right click on your desktop, then gadgets, then select the compas icon for the ovi maps and drag it to the desktop.
once on your desktop, it doesnt matter if you are on wifi, or on the at&t network, so long as you are connected and the satalites can see you (at least 3) then the desktop gadget will automatically take hold and update your position with a red dot and then the map will load giving you a visibility of roughly 1/4 miles diameter.

  • Regarding a WRT54G: Firmware and trouble with Vista

    Hey all,
First of all, this is my first post here on this board so please don't have me assassinated if I skipped some board rules/policy. I'm trying to find a solution to my problem a.s.a.p.
My first question is: what's up with the firmware versions and my router's modelname? When I bought the router I got it in a box saying WRT54G (v1.1) with firmware version 4.30.7. As a first step getting the problem described below solved, I downloaded the latest Linksys  firmware for a WRT54G v1.1 from this website. After the firmware update my router now seems to be known as a WRT54GL and next to that my firmware version number didn't increase, it deacreased to 4.21.1. I don't know about you guys but this doesn't seem logical to me. Any explanations? Also the firmware's date seems to be somewhere back in 2006, isn't this a bit outdated for 'latest' software?
Now onto the next subject: the fact that my Acer notebook keeps losing the wireless signal since Vista. The wireless connection between the router and my notebook has always worked very fast and flawlessly when I ran XP SP2. However, as soon as I install Vista, something odd happens. With the same drivers for my wireless chipset (they're for both XP and Vista) either my notebook keeps losing the wireless signal or the router has trouble providing my Vista notebook with a steady signal. For 30 to 45 minutes I seem to have a steady signal with 5 blocks filled on Windows' signal'O'meter and then suddenly I get disconnected from my router for like 10 seconds to 1 minute. At first it says my connection turned from "local and internet" to "local only" and after a few seconds the entire signal is dead and the wireless tray icon gets covered by that little yellow triangle. Without interfering it'll take up to a minute at most and the connection will be back as it was before. However, this minute is just enough to mess up skype sessions, downloads, streams, you name it. To be honest, I haven't got the faintest idea what might cause this. Does anyone of you have?
    N.b.
    - I think I've noticed the issue occuring more frequent during high bandwidth usage like downloading with 2.5 to 3 MB/s but I'm not very sure about that.
    - My notebook hasn't moved an inch over the past years and there are no other devices added in my house that might interfere with the signal.
    - I've tried all the eleven channels.
    - I've set up a dualboot system on my notebook with XP SP2 and guess what, problem is gone when I use XP SP2 again.
    - I'm using an Atheros AR500G wireless adapter.
    - I'm only using Acer's drivers for the wireless adapter, not their useless resources consuming utility that "manages my wireless settings". Which seem to be Acer's words for slowing sh1t down a lot!
    - I'm using exactly the same internet security software with Vista as with XP SP2. Turning this software off won't help in any way.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    G.

First thing which you can check is the Model number of your Router. Flip the router upside down and below you will find the Model number of your Router and version number. Make sure it is WRT54G or WRT54GL. As you have mentioned that previously the firmware on your Router was 4.30.7, Basically that's the Firmware version of WRT54GL Router.
Since you have already upgraded the firmware on your Router, Have you resetted your Router and re-configured all the settings back on your Router? If not then you can do it now.
While Configuring the settings on your Router you need to change the Wireless Channel to 11.
Now you can try to connect to your Wireless Network and check if you are able to go Online.
The model on the router itself says WRT54G.
I've already resetted and reconfigured the router several times, doesn't help. Also tried all the 11 channels.
And yes, I am able to go online but the problem described in my first post still exists. I don't see why switching channels would solve it anyway since it's clearly a problem caused by the router in combination with Vista, it's not signal strength related. But like I said, I tried all the channels anyway.
Is it possible for a Linksys employee to take a look at this topic? Are there some known issues with a WRT54G and Vista and/or an Atheros AR5005G chipset? Is my hardware and software supported by the WRT54G at all?

  • Installing Arch on my Toshiba Satellite M70 - NEWBIE

Hey everyone, I'm a complete noob to Archlinux. I have used Ubuntu and have had that running for a while. I've read good things about arch and have installed it on my M70 notebook.
The installation went fine except for two things:
    1) My timezone failed when booting into linux. I'm not sure why but after I set the clock, the rc.conf didnt update it to match my timezone (Australia/Brisbane).
    2) My network connection failed. This is where I'm really confused as I really don't now where to start. I'm not sure how I can find the name of wireless card for the laptop and how to setup DHCP and put in my WPA password.
I am wanting to install GNOME aswell, however, I need my connection working to install this.
    Any help would be great!

    I just came across this:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wif … d_Firmware
So judging by this I typed in:
    # lspci | grep -i net
    And the output is:
    6.02.0 Network Controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915AGB [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05)
    I then get up to:
    # iwconfig
    Output:
    lo no wireless extensions
    eth0 no wireless extensions
So I'm not sure what to do.

  • Need Tools & Utilities for Vista upgraded Satellite M70-129

I've recently upgraded to Vista, but I've noticed all my toshiba programs such as toshiba powersaver have gone!
How can I get them back .. ?
    Thanks in advance.

I found a official Toshiba document in this forum which says that the Satellite M70 notebooks are supported and the Vista drivers will be published. When?? We will see
I have noticed that Toshiba publishes new Vista drivers every day Now, be patient.
By the way: As far as I know Toshiba did not design Power saver for Vista for any notebook series.
Windows Vista uses an own power options and this options are very similar to Toshiba power saver.
So dont wait for Toshiba power saver release because they will not release this tool for Vista

  • Internal modem not detecting dial tone

I have an iMac G3 CRT 333MHz (Lime) which is having trouble connecting to my dial-up internet connection. I am fearing that my internal modem is 'burnt out', and am wondering if anyone out there has any additional troubleshooting tips, or any advice on purchasing a new external modem.
The trouble started after a lightning storm, which also disrupted internet connections for my roommate's PC (I don't know exactly how he fixed his, but he is connected via a DSL modem and says he simply restored some modem drivers). I have noticed, however, that he removed his 56k modem...
When I attempt to dial-up from my Mac, I get a message stating "Modem did not detect a dial-tone or the line is currently in use..." I have checked and double checked that the phone line does indeed have a dial tone, and tried connecting through through various outlets throughout the house. I've disconnected all other phone hardware (except the DSL filters) and reached the same result.
I am currently running OSX (10.3.9), and also attempted to dial out after restarting in 9.2.2. (Same result). After that, I dug out my install CD and reinstalled 10.3 (same result)
From each OS, I've run system profiler and recieved no unusual information about the internal modem. The computer definitely senses that I HAVE a modem (Apple Vsn 0007-1,9/2/1998 v.90) That modem simply can't seem to detect the dial tone.
I have also confirmed my modem settings, tried checking and unchecking the 'sound' and 'wait for dial tone' boxes. My internet provider is NetZero, so I have attempted to dial in using their software, as well as directly through Internet Connect. All attempts return the same message. (and the NetZero account is still active, I have accessed it from two separate computers).
Any thoughts out there if there are any further settings or or software/OS variations I should try? Or are my suspicions valid that the storm somehow fried the modem (there were no power interruptions during the storm... only modem troubles)
My next step might be to find an external modem. I've not seen any Mac-compatible 56k modems in stores. There is a Apple USB Modem in the Apple store, but it requires OS 10.4.3 and a computer 'without a built-in modem', so I don't think that will help me. I've also considered using Airport to share my roommate's DSL connection, but I believe that my model of iMac is not airport compatible...
I also have a dead iMac in the closet (DV model) with a blown ethernet port, broken fan, and damaged hard drive. I'm not above cannibalizing either machine to get the other working until I can afford a new G5...
Any thoughts, suggestions, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!!

The only thing I can think of is to go in to the modem settings and choose ignore dial-tone. That way even if it's not getting a good tone the iMac will continue to try to connect. This is also important if you have a voice mail system that varies the dialling tone whne you have a message as I know that stops my father's Win98 box connecting to the Internet unless the equivalent option is checked.
You can update your email address to a current one here. If the Apple ID (i.e. the one you login with) is old don't worry that's pretty irrelevant.

    Hi,
My Satellite M70 notebook didn`t accept any key input when Windows has started. I suppose that a kind of keyboard lock has been accidentally activated. Does anybody know how to unlock the keyboard?

    Hello again,
The solution of the problem was in bios menue. When I set default settings the keyboard worked again. I don't know exactly which parameter was wrong because I didn`t made any changes in bios before. Anyway I`m glad again.

  • HP Pavillion 17 e049wm Notebook PC- Cannot Turn on

Product name: Hp Pavillion Notebook PC
    model: 17 e049wm
    Product number: E0J75UA
    Operating System: Windows 8.1
Hello, my Hp laptop is not turning on.
Last night I left it on and off the charger all night, though I believe it eventually went in "sleep mode"
This morning I plugged the charger in and attempted to turn it on, but it didnt power up,I assumed it was because the cord wasnt fully plugged into the outlet on the wall, so i didnt think much of it.
Later this evening I tried again, making sure the cord in the outlet was secure, and nothing happened. I tried all the outlets in my house. I dont have another adaptor, if I had i would have tried that.
I unplugged the power adaptor, took out the battery and then held down the power button for 30 seconds. I plugged the adaptor back in and tried to turn it on, nothing. I put the battery back in and still nothing.
I tried another time, using one of those extended outlets that has a light to let me know that its working. Still nothing, however I started to notice that the LED lights next to the power symbol where you plug the adaptor to the laptop would light up white, and then orange. I kept fiddling with it but the lights would only happen for about a second, and then stop.
I tried taking out the battery again and using only the power adaptor and this time the lights would turn on white for half a second, disspear and then blink again, only for a second or 2, and then nothing.
Im not sure what to do at this point, I dont know if its my battery, or my adaptor/charger chord, or if the little outlet plug in my laptop has a broken piece.
Any assistance on this matter would be appriciated, Im a college student and a freelance digital artist, so I NEED my laptop, ASAP

    Hi @xscemesx
I see you are having trouble with restarting your notebook after the battery ran dry.
I would start out with this page as it walks through several methods to recover. It is possible that just a hard reset could fix it. Computer does not start (Windows 8)
If it looks like a power problem then try out this one.

Also you can check out this page, if it looks like the battery is the problem.
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8)
Let me know if that helps at all.
