Moderator needed! Please help!

Hi there
We have had an appalling service from BT and are at the end of our tether and don't know where to go from here.
We moved into our house 6 months ago and have been trying to get a land line and broadband ever since. We have made multiple orders (around 9) with BT and due to errors and complications caused by BT we still do not have and of the services we have tried to order.
Here are the two main issues we have experienced.
1) there is already a land line in the property. It was there when we moved in and I don't know anything about the company it is registered with. BT spent months trying to take over the line unsuccessfully until I found out that we could have just got a new line in the first place. Since then, when speaking to BT I stress the importance of having a new line as the line take over doesn't work.
2) The second problem, and currently the more important issue, is that when BT send the order to Openreach they specify the incorrect 'exchange' location. We live on Pershore Avenue, just off the Pershore Road, the last Openreach person I spoke to explained that in the order information they received the exchange was down as Pershore Street, which is miles away from our house! It would seem as though someone has gotten confused between Avenue and Street!
This second issue has also gone on for months and when I speak with openreach they explain very clearly at it is not an. Engineering issue and that it's just a case of getting the correct exchange written on the order. But when I speak with BT they say it is an engineering issue that openreach need to fix, the result seems to be that no one is fixing the problem. I have no idea what to do and am beginning to believe that we will in fact never be able to get broadband in our property.
We desperately want to get the services before Christmas but have no idea how to fix the issues, I have spoken to dozens of BT advisors and no one ever sorts the issue.
I do not want to put another order through as I have done this so many times and it never fixes the problem, instead I want this order to be fixed and for my points to be taken seriously.

Cross-Browser (BASIC Functionality) Issue - Need to boot to Windows in parallels to use the websites I need - PLEASE HELP!

Let me lead with my system specs. If you need more info, please let me know and I'll be happy to supply them. I'll be sitting by my computer all night, glaring at my Snow Leopard Install Discs and hoping that you guys don't say that the only thing left to do is a clean install of SL, then re-upgrade to lion.
So, a few months ago, I noticed that certain components on websites wouldn't work. They would be pretty basic - simple buttons at first. Then certain submission forms wouldn't process. Then, recently, there has been a complete loss of video playback on certain websites. And the final straw, the Vuze software update button will not click through.
In order to work around these browser break downs, I've had to launch Linux/Windows 7 or 8 (depending on wether or not I wanted to make myself even MORE frustrated by using metro) to do my web browsing.
Here are a few examples. Again - ALL these websites work in other operating systems.
Groupon - via http://www.groupon.com/subscriptions/new?division_p=philadelphia
The "Continue" button does not function. It will depress on click, and highlights on mouseover, but it will not lead to the next page.

This site houses a calculator for the quadratic formula and other nerd tools - but essentially, just a standard forms with fields. Clicking the "Solve the Quadratic Equation" button does not work. In fact, in this case, mousing over causes the pointer to turn into a text curser.

Clicking this button does nothing. Nothing at all.
I've posted a similar thread when this first happened, where I included activity monitor and consol logs, but no one could make heads or tales of them. one guy even said there was nothing wrong.
i know steve jobs said that macs were the best hardware around for running windows. I don't think that this is what he meant.

We have an application that has 2 database tables that hold presentation information as:
Table :- screens_info
Contents of a record :- what is the background color , title , link colors etc. for a screen in the application
Table :- tables_info
Contents of a record :- what is the format of a column of a table that needs to be displayed such as heading , data-type , textbox/listbox etc. , needs to be presented in presentable version , width
I was thinking for a java solution and use XML instead of database presentation tables. There will be multiple XSL and XML for this presentation info.
I need to justify this approach to my colleagues.
Here are some points:
FOR -->
1. Database is not a good way for storing presentation info. whereas XML is
2. Later on we can change it easily if required as well as talk more effectively with other applications ( which is our need in near future )
3. For each screen load and reload , we need not access database presentation tables. Improves performance
Against -->
1. It's fine for saying not to store the data in database , but ultimately we have to access the XML and the files etc.
2. I am planning to use XSQL servlet from Oracle that basically will handle the query execution part and return a proper output as I am going to specify with a stylesheet
This poses a danger in case tomorrow we plan to deal with some other database than Oracle. So instead of that I can go for java beans and XMl parsers.
I am not able to exactly specify the advantages of storing presentation info. in XML.
Please guide me and correct if I am wrong. I badly need help on this decision.

That's a good point.
Related question is as I am going to use XSQL servlet, if we shift tomorrow some other database than oracle , XSQL servlet is of no use I guess and I should go for parsing and all by myself. Isn't it?
But can you tell me the major advantages of using XML in my case?

Urgent help needed, please help me

I am developing a web site using Java Servlets. The site requires to send XML as POST to an HTTPS server and get the response.
Development environment:
Laptop running Windows XP with jdk1.3.1, j2sdkee1.3 and Tomcat 4.1.
Since I need to use https request from the servlet, I am using the following code;

To use the above code I downloaded the jsse1.0.3_03 package from the sun website and added the three jar files to the appropriate location. Also edited the java.security file.
The program compiles and when deployed to the web server, it works great.
Now the problem;
I need to deploy the web site in a server that is connected to the internet. This server is running Windows 2000 Server. It has the same jdk1.3.1, j2sdkee1.3 and Tomcat 4.1. Also I added the three jar files from jsse1.0.3_03. I also updated the classpath in the environment variable accordingly.
Everything is pretty much similar to the Laptop that I use to develop the site except that the OS is Windows 2000 Server.
But when I deployed the class files to the web server and tested the site, the servlet gave the following error:
"unknown protocol: https"
What could be wrong? I really need to fix this issue as soon as possible and any input from you will be highly appreciated.

I need a new laptop asap that is the urgency part over with!
The question is: How well would prem pro cs6 operate on a laptop system with:
Intel i5 4200M dual core 3mb cache 2:6/3.2Ghz processor

Keeping in mind I will mostly be just editing canon dale 1080p footage.

That unfortunately is a common misconception with GPU acceleration. GPU acceleration handles certain frame features such as scaling interpolation, and some effects. It current does not handle decoding/encoding with Adobe. That is handled by the CPU. Because the Decoding has to start the process the CPU determines the overall performance/load on the GPU at any point in time. This also means that at any point in time the CPU is not necessarily handling less load. The CPU is just more focused on what it has to do such as decoding/encoding and many effects. All of this means no I dont think the 740M will change the user experience enough to stop the requirement for rending the timeline to playback. It will help but that is all. The CPU is really low for this type of compression. Pro Res or DNxHD would probably work ok on that CPU simply because the compression level is much lower and they are very efficient codecs with regards to performance. I would suggest looking at Cineform if you need to get this laptop and the realtime playback is not good enough for your workflow. Cineform allows you far better performance with more limited specs.
BTW 8GB of ram is really low for GPU acceleration and HD. The biggest current mistake people are making is configuring systems without nearly enough ram to optimally handle the GPU acceleration. GPU acceleration requires a significant amount of ram because of how it works and transits through your system ram. Even if a system has the fastest CPU and best GPU, the performance is going to be poor if the system ram is to low. Most of the power available in that config would not even be utilized.

Quciktime pro help needed please help help help help please

We are trying to view our video rushes from a Lacie harddrive hooked up to our Mac laptop. These are supposed to be run through quicktime, which we have installed on the laptop as well as having just bought quicktime pro. However, we keep getting a message that the quicktime we are using has missing components and we need to upgrade, which we have done. But we still are only to get sound on the rushes and not the video images.
We are desperate to see these rushes before our editor gets them and starts to edit. Which means we need to see them now. If anyone is up now and can help and call us to give us advice, we would be most grateful. Following our tel. chat I asked the question and, as I suspected, it is a codec issue. In addition it is also a processor speed issue. Below is a reply from Dave Sawyer. a fellow L4, regarding this issue:
I agree also that a single-processor G4 system almost certainly isn't going to handle uncompressed HD content. That's what the Pixlet codec is for; so film producers can view HD content on systems less than DP/Quad G5s. I think they're going to either have to work with more powerful systems (and make sure that they're running FCP5 on them) or get the cameraman to send them the content encoded in Pixlet.
I realise that this may be too late as far as yourselves viewing these video rushes before they go to the editor but hopefully the above info will assist you in the future.

I'm in desperate Need, please help....Taking .java back to .jsp?????

Hello, I really made a mistake...and no one wants to start anything with those words.
I was in the process of creating an ecommerse sight using html and jsp, when I did a really dumb thing and deleted my files... I thought I had backed them up on disk and was preparing to shift computers, and didn't want to leave anything behind on the computer.
I might be ok, but I have a complex question.
I was using tomcat to host my files locally. While using tomcat it compiled my files into .java and .class files. I have these files, as I didn't delete them before moving computers.
This poses my question:
Is there a way to reverse engineer the .java and .class files back into the original .jsp files????
I still need to make a large amount of corrections to what I had, likewise I don't want to start all over from scratch..
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.

An idea...
Couldn't you try to get and decompiled the .class files that Tomcat compiled from the servlet translated from the .jsp? This way, you would have lost your .jsp, but you could continue to work with the servlets or, if your motivated, you could cut and paste relevant parts of the servlets to new .jsp. That would surely be easier than rewrite all...

He formats it using Don't eras data mode, so the data is still on the HDD but unreachable.
Please any ideas or hint.

I have a table similar to scott.emp table and i should get first three recently joined employees salaries according to their joined date from each deptno
output should like this:
deptno firstempsalary secondemplsal thirdemploysalary
10 xxx xxx xxxx
20 xx xx
30 xx xxx xxxx
40 xx
50 xx xxxx xxx
60 xx xx
70 xx
it means that 70 dept having only one employee and 20 dept having only two employees and 10 dept having more than three employees but we should get only three recently joined employees salaries from 10 dept.
Hope this is clear .. please give me a query to get this info ..

Problem here is what to do when employees have the same join date? This example will arbitrarily choose their order and if, for example, three employees share the same (most recent) join date then they will arbitrarily be classed as "first", "second" and "third". If four employees join at the same time, one of them will be ignored at random!

I have Adobe Photoshop elements that was installed on my XP windows machine. I have got Windows 8 now with iternet explorer 11 a brand new machine but photoshop will not load onto it, it says internet explorer 5 or higher needed, please help

any thoughts on this problem, I find no version stated on the photoshop elements program. sorry it says internet explorer 4 or higher need which is what I have.

There is a problem with IE10+ in that it is mistakenly seen as being IE1. To get around this either use a different browser or use compatibility view (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-10)

I want to set up 4 phone lines in a brand new office. I have cable internet and thats it. What will I need to buy? Will I have to get vonage or other voip provider? Do I need four lines from vonage or from my cable provider???

Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. So what I unsderstand is, that for each call I want to be able to answer, I need a voip line coming in. So if I want to be able to talk to 4 customers at once, then I need 4 voip lines. Each would have itsw own number associated with it. This number would be used as an identifier in the sp9000 to ring down to. Is this correct?? No way to handle 4 calls at once with only one voip line?
My thinking is, on cable, you can recieve 1000's of channels simultaneously from the cable company on one wire. Why can't I recieve thousands of phone calss at once on the same wire.
