Moderators a bit heavy handed here?

I just noticed that a moderator moved the "not enough updates, time to sell it?" post to the general forum where it makes absolutelty no sense (no product name in title, TPT specific post). This seems totally nonsensical as this post (which was not my own) is clearly relevent to this forum. It would be nice if moderators used more discretion when moving posts or editing them, particularly when these posts are critical of the mother company... This is not the first heavy handed behavior that I have noticed here, and I don't mean to single that specific mod out. As a user the lack of support and response from Lenovo does not pair well with the somewhat aggressive forum moderation (locking posts, removing content for supposed rules violation while refusing to explain to the user what rule was violated (my personal experience), and arbitrary relocation of posts). Interestingly the general forum (which I would never visit to get TPT information) seems like a dumping ground for critical posts. The only real support available on this product is from other users, please be more respectful of these posts.

 For example, there is no longer any link from the TPT forum to this post, even though this is aimed specifically at that community..
I moved the post for the reason JaneL stated and left a placeholder pointing to it which members can follow if they choose to.

Also, it would be nice if it wasn't possible for incredibly immature users to spam other's posts using tags...
Could you please be a little more specific, maybe provide one or two links to examples of what you mean?
Thanks

  • Mavericks: Can I stop these heavy handed tactics?

    Can I stop Apple's/Mavericks' heavy handed tactics when it comes to sofware updates? I am annoyed. Here is what I am talking about.
    I think I have the right to decide if, and when, I install an update without being harrassed. I am not concerned abou the Time Machine nag partially depicted because I can simply dismiss it.

    Please send feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
    The only way to avoid these updates is to actually perform the requested update.
    However, you can work around the problem. Make sure to archive the software you currently have. That is always a good idea, by the way, even with the Mac App Store. Then, perform the update. Next, copy the new version of the software that you don't want (let's call it "Pages") to some obscure place on your hard drive or permanently connected volume. Now, use LauncPad to officially delete the software. Finally, copy the old version into /Applications.
    Since the old version has the correct receipt, it will work normally. Since the new version is on the hard drive, you will no longer be nagged about updating. The old version is in LaunchPad so that is the one you will launch. If necessary, you can set your document types to only open with the old version.

  • Does Mozilla Lightbeam work on the latest Firefox (64 Bit), not working here?

    Windows 7 Pro, 64 Bit

    Thanks Ed and James, here is an edited version of my reply to: "how to activate lightbeam" ...
    Yikes, I did this so quickly that I DID install NIGHTLY in error. Removed it, installed the latest 32 bit Firefox + Lightbeam, all is working...
    Sorry for the confusion, my misstep and cross posting. I am a newbie here and could not find my way to the new question I posted. Since I did not get an email confirm and could not find the question by searching, I assumed it went to bit heaven.
    I will do better next time ...

  • Poor Coverage Verizon heavy handed attitude Unwilling to resolve.

    I recently upgraded my phone to the LG G2.  Nice phone, I also got a Galaxy Tab 2, which is an ok tablet for my needs. Both are on a shared data plan. I have been with Verizon for at least 4 years after being an AT&T Customer.  I recently purchased a new home and moved about 5 miles from my previous location. I am about 2 miles from a Verizon tower.  I can NOT use either device inside my home.  My neighbors also can not use their devices inside their homes. We ALL have to go outside to make calls. Verizon opened a ticket for this issue and determined that the signal at street level is Marginal, 1-2 bars. I get 1 Bar in my HOME if I go directly to a window Upstairs, Occasionally. I realize that topology can effect microwave propagation and there may very well be dead areas but that is not my problem as I am not the maintainer of the network that provides the paid services.
    The solution from Verizon is to purchase a $250 extender to resolve the issue. Why would I need to purchase a device to use a service I already pay for?  I have spent about 8 hours on the phone thus far with Tech support.  I escalated this to a manager who agreed to hear my complaint and stated he would call me back after 15 minutes. He never called back. I called support back and of course none of the people I talked to were available.
    Does Verizon not understand the concept of a warm hand off for tickets?  Verizon believes that I will simply pay for the extender in part or in full because I am on the edge agreement and I stand to loose over $400, so its take it or leave it your under a new contract. I WILL leave. Even if the the cost is $1500. This is about principle and fair business practices.  The attitude of Verizon is deplorable. They do not care about the customer. The flat out lied about the cost of my monthly charges in the store and now this. I am pay over $100 a month for something I can't even use?
    Nobody is calling me and honestly it appears they don't care what I do. Its "Best Effort" only.  YOU need to be aware of this. I am not asking for the impossible. Lets be realistic. The Extender is not that expensive to Verizon. It is made by Samsung and it in itself does not have that great a track record. Other companies such as AT&T offer these for free. T Mobile has a VOIP client to get around this issue. Verizon wants to sell you something to solve the issue.
    I am sure this post will be deleted or removed by the moderator so I am saving it so I can either re-post or place on Facebook.  I am sorry it has to come to this but I have tried to be diplomatic and understanding about this  Push come to shove Verizon is not different than AT&T or any other company. The could care less about you the consumer as long as your signing a new agreement.
    Verizon will argue we can't give away an extender to everyone with a signal issue. Well you actually can, but I understand the business implications of such matters. That however is not my problem and if you understood the basics of Customer support and Customer Advocacy you would deal with each issue on a case by base basis. Crapping on customers and not communicating is the best way to loose business.

    It tells me that area has minimal coverage regardless of where the tower is located and even with other Verizon customer is the same area, Verizon is not doing anything to change that (That you know of)
    And yes, I would eat the ETF to get good cell coverage because good cell coverage is critical to my life and to my business. I would rather do that than keep paying for unusable service I would not eat the $250 for a network extender because from reading the stories on the forum about it, it's not worth $50.
    You keep talking about how other companies offer this or offer that, Verizon never price matched and never will so don't get your hopes up for a free network extender.
    They will never call you back, Verizon customer service is on it's way down the hill.
    And they can tell you what they want about high coverage in your area, you are experiencing firsthand they do not.
    I would just cut ties and move on. T-Mobile is buying out contracts still I believe so I would check and see what coverage the have.
    Otherwise you could buy the extender and you have 14 days to figure out if it's worth the $250 or not.
    Good Luck

  • Lockup after login. Can I get a bit of help here?

    So, this morning I decided I'd reboot my mbp before I started some coding. I rebooted it and came back a few minutes later, logged in, and then it just sat there. I let it sit there for at least 45mins and it did nothing.
    What happens after you enter your password in the login window, is the window goes away and the blue swirls background comes up and it just sits there.
    I've been working on trying to fix this for at least 5 hours now with no luck. (This is my first mac, so it's been quite an experience, heh.) I did a clearing of the logfiles then replicated the issue.
    It seems the the issue could be caused by configd? The system.log file is full of lines like this:
    launchd: Server 0 in bootstrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/configd"[142]: exited abnormally: Abort trap
    and
    launchd: Server 0 in bootstrap 1103 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/configd"[955]: exited with status 1
    the log also shows the mds framework exiting abnormally and getting killed.
    Anyone know how to fix this so I can get in? Everything works just fine until I log in. I can't afford to do a reinstall right now.
    P.S. I'll post log if someone can tell me how to get networking up in single user mode.

    Hmmm… I don't know what to suggest to you without take a more drastic action like an archive and install. You big problem to my mind that that it won't safe boot (be sure that it can't as it does take quite some time to boot this way). Additionally I'm off to bed as it's 1am here.
    Personally I would have resorted to either a backup/clone else a clean install by now.

  • Here's cover art / on the other hand, here isn't!

    I initially imported a handful of my albums to iTunes (henceforth referred to as *"initial albums"*), used the function to d/l cover art for them, which turned out ok. Later I removed this library, started a fresh one and added all my music, applying the cover art function. This time, however, iTunes failed to retrieve album covers for several of my "initial albums" (for instance incl. four albums by the same artist).
    These initial albums are common pieces of music that are all available through the iTunes store, and at least some of which you expect to find on the shelf if you pay your local record store a visit. I should point out that in between these to library builds I did edit some of the tracks' tag information (although only minor alterations like adding year of release, comments, etc. were made).
    Kudos to the one who coughs up an answer to this one!

    My experience is that for automatic artwork look up, the two pieces of info that must match exactly are Artist name and Album name. If you changed any of those two, that might be the issue.
    And it can be somewhat subtle. For example, I couldn't figure out why a "Mighty Mighty Bosstones" album wouldn't get the artwork when I could see the album in the store. Turns out that I was missing the leading "The" from the group name. Adding that in to create "The Mighty Mighty Bosstones" solved that one.
    Other times I have found very slight differences in album titles especially with punctuation and articles (the, and, etc.). For example, AND vs. &, or titles like (just making up a title off the top of my head) "Joe Blow Greatest Hits" vs. "Joe Blow - Greatest Hits" (Note the added DASH in there).
    I have found that if I go to the store, highlight the line of one of the songs on the album, do a COPY then open Text Edit, Notepad, etc. and paste it will paste in the entire line of info (it doesn't seem to allow you to just highlight and copy the artist or title), then highlight the artist name or album title, again do a COPY, then go back to iTunes, select the album, Get Info and paste in the version you just copied which WILL match iTunes version.
    Best of luck,
    Patrick

    Hi,
    Few Problems with a 10 day nokia 720:-
    1. Earphone volume while in a call - I can't change the earphone volume while in a call. This is very frustating. Is this a problem with my nokia 720 or is this a general issue with all 720.

    3. When I switch off mobile data connection, my overall mobile connection is lost after some time. Also I am experiencing too frequent call drops, Also my network just goes out of the picture, it just doesn't detect network. Facing a lot of issues with this,
    4. Sometimes it zooms out and doesn't come back to its original position. I don't know what is the problem with this. I have to restart my phone to get back in normal position.
    5. My bookmyshow app doesn't work after the update [this can be ignored ]

  • Plz give me a hand here!

    i have a button called "show " to display the screen. in that screen there's a white box and when i press the box it will change its color to blue. so what i want 2 do now is whenever i click the "show" button again, it will display the blue box instead of white box. how do i like "save" the action listener?

    As I understand, you want to toggle between white and blue color on the box. If this is true, you can use a boolean variable to check which color to show and change it everytime the button is clicked. For example,
    // Define a boolean class variable
    boolean colorToggle = false;
    // Inside actionPeformed method
    if (event.getSource == showButton)
       if (colorToggle == false)
          box.setBackground(Color.Blue);
         colorToggle = true;
       else
         box.setBackground(Color.White);
         colorToggle = false;
    }Hope this helps.

    The problem is that the code signature is invalid. You can check it thus:
    $ codesign -v /Applications/TextEdit.app
    /Applications/TextEdit.app: invalid signature (code or signature have been modified)
    In architecture: i386
    Lion reinstall will probably fix it. But that's a bit heavy handed. You can also resign the app. I took a copy of /Applications/TextEdit.app and signed that instead. Perhaps a software update will include a fresh copy of TextEdit.

  • Stop current thread

    I have got a Thread (made from swing thread).
    In the run() method i create a frame with a button that has an "actionperformed" and I show this frame and I put a loop like "
    while(true){
    Thread.currentTread.sleep(1000);
    System.out.println("bip");
    But in the button action I try to kill this Thread.
    But, no one of the methods from Thread class "yield", "destroy", "interrupt" seems to work.
    QUESTION :
    ==> How can I do to kill a Thread when I have his name or when it is the current Thread.

    Right - your best option is to either make the thread null (thus removing the object and stopping the thread from running), which is a bit heavy handed. Be careful of this, especially if you'll be creating new instances all the time - creating and scheduling threads can be quite processor and time intensive.
    The other option is to have the while loop use a boolean variable, such that you can do something like
    // instnace variable:
    private boolean running = true;
    // now a method to modify it:
    public void setRunning(boolean run)
      running = run;
    //some more code in your class...
    // now the body of the run method:
    while(running)
      Thread.currentTread.sleep(1000);
      System.out.println("bip");
    }Thus, when someone calls yourObjectName.setRunning(false), the run() method will quit.
    All you have to do now is call yourObjectName.start() to make it run again.
    I can't think of any cleaner ways to do this, so if they're any Java Gurus out there, help me out here.
    So, do this if you want to stop a thread running; but if you really want to kill it, and not use it again, make the object null.
    Let me know if this works for you,
    Rich

    shut down qmaster etc via the Compressor/ apple qumater menu.
    delete the ~/library/application support/Apple Qmaster folder
    restart and set up compressor/ qmaster again .
    A very detailed explanation of this procedure is here at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17356372#17356372
    sounds a bit heavy to remove the applications... yeah appzapper.app is cool though!
    see above.
    The file agent missing seems like a timing issue I think compounded by some corruption of he state information in compressor V4 in the ~/library/application support/Apple Qmaster folder. THere will erros logged in the /var/logs and also in the apple qmaster logs at ~/library/application support/Apple Qmaster/Logs.
    worth a look.

  • Laptop will not boot, no display and flashing caps key

    Hi,
    I am attemping to repair a laptop for a family member, their baby threw up on the keyboard, although after they cleared it up they said it was still working (booting into windows, mouse working etc). They took the old keyboard out themselves but it looks like they were a bit heavy handed with it; there are quite a few scratches on the metal plate underneath the keyboard and the plastic surround. I have not yet been able to confirm if the laptop was still booting after the keboard was removed.
    Anyway - I went to their house to do what I thought was going to be a relatively easy job, simply connecting the new keyboard. Now the laptop will not boot, there is no display on the screen and we get a flashing CAPS/F12 key. I have looked at the table for LED codes, but I am not sure if it is one flash lots of times, or six flashes. The warranty has also run out so sending to HP not really an option.
    There are six short flashes, with quite a long pause between each one. After this the laptop powers off and after another pause turns itself back on and starts over. If it is one flash (CPU) then I guess they must have shafted something on the board by shoving the screwdriver in underneath the keyboard to prise it away from the laptop. There is however not an awful lot of stuff exposed - there is a fairly substancial metal plate under where the keyboard would sit to protect the laptop.
    I am hoping at the moment that it is showing six flashes - which is BIOS authentication error. I am not that familiar with HP products, but could this be caused by installing a non-genuine keyboard? The keyboard looks the same from the top, but was bought for less than a tenner on ebay.
    If anybody has any ideas that would be great.
