Modfification of ESS~Cod application.

HI Experts,
I have a requirement to modify the ESS Chnage Own Data Application where we are storing inofmation like telephone no and fax no.
While i have download the DC ESS~cod , but i am unable to find the view , where i can get these fields like fax, extensions.
Please help me on this.

Hi,
What is that you want to modify? If all you need to do is to hide fileds/remove fields or rename fields you can do it through personalization, no need for any development untillyou need to add a new field which is not there.

Regarding ESS Addresses application

Hi,
We are using EP 7.0 and implemented ESS/MSS.
Now they have activated Com01, Num01 fields of Infotype 6(Adresses).
But these fields are not visible in the Addresses application of ESS.
For example if I add these entries in Permanent address type, these fields are not displayed in Portal,
Is there any configuration available in the ECC to make these fields visible in portal ESS application also since these fields are standard or do we need to go for customization.
Any idea on this will be highly appreciated.

Hi,
In order to add the required fields in the ESS Addresses application, we need to add those fields in the following structure of the country specific function module HRXSS_PER_EDIT_P0006_XX where XX u2013 defines the country code(say de- germany, fr-france)
Structure: HCMT_BSP_PA_XX_R0006 where again XX u2013 defines the country code
After changing the structure you need to restart the portal for this to reflect and use the below mentioned link.

After that you need to enhance the BADI HRPAD00INFTYUI for the input conversion ans output conversion.

Customizing ESS~BEN application

Hi All,
Some customization is required in the ess~ben application.
Requirement: The buttons in the ContainerPlanDetailView (of controller VcBenefitsPlanDetail) have to be copied in the PlansOfPlanTypeView (of controller VCBenefitsPlansOfPlanType). The functionality is also to be copied, i.e. the action performed by the buttons in both the view should be the same.
I also want to know how we define navigation between perspective in this application or any ESS application.

Hi Vibha,
First you copy the buttons from layout tab of ContainerPlanDetailView to layout tab of PlansOfPlanTypeView. Create actions with same names as in ContainerPlanDetailView. Now copy the code from methods onActionXXX of ContainerPlanDetailView to that of PlansOfPlanTypeView.

2. and pass PERNR as parameter to this URL so that the salary slip displayed is for that particular PERNR.
i am able to get the payslip application through URL.
Now how to acheive point no. 2 ?

It depends on the bar code reader you have - most wil have some sort of interface like DLL and Forms would integrate with that...so its not really a Forms issue - its more dependant on you barcode reader

Cant change profiles as code /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -ProfileManager says its not recognized and ive restarted it twice to make sure its closed

Cant change my profiles and the code /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -ProfileManager as stated on the page doesnt work..It says -bash: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin: No such file or directory...I cant create a new one or manage them cause of not allowing in the profile area..

An update.
I almost never use TFF24 so I haven't really been testing this. However, I did have an issue with TFF17 where it crashed or something. When I restarted TFF17 it had somehow decided to start using my TFF24 profile. No real harm there other than puzzlement, and I was missing all my plugins and extensions. Fortunately I keep the profile switcher extension in both profiles so I used it to switch back to my TFF17 profile. A few days later I needed to use TFF24. When I tried starting it with TFF17 still running it did not start up but gave me the old warning about not being able to run two versions of Firefox. I quit TFF17, started TFF24 and it started up using my TFF17 profile. Of course then it ran an extension compatibility check, found the "outdated" ones and removed them from the profile! They were still gone when I restarted in TFF17. An add-on check said one of them (Classic Compact) only had a Firefox20+ version available until I did some real web searching and finally found a page with the older version. By the way, simply copying the extensions folder from a profile backup does not seem to install a full suite of extensions, you have to do the full profile.
Observations:
- If you do this, keep a profile switcher add-on in both copies of TFF. Select it to always display at startup which is annoying but not a huge amount of labor to click through. That way you can make sure each version is starting with the correct profile. I also installed an add-on which stops TFF from doing an add-on compatibility check when starting, just in case. It is easy to toggle on and off if you really want one done.
- Of course right now I don't have capability to keep both versions running at the same time unless I go back and set it all up again, but at least I can have two different versions for when I need to run the newer one.

Customised Error Message for ESS-MSS Applications

Hello All,
Currently, if there are any errors in the ESS/MSS transactions, we get the 503 error with lot of irrelevant data to the users. We have a basic html page which says, "There is a issue-Please contact XXXX".
Is there a way to replace the standard error message with this html page ?
PS: I am not talkign about the "Dispatcher Running" or "Application Stopped" messages, Please do not point me again to SAP Help website which doesn't answer my query. THIS IS ABOUT REPLACING THE STANDARD ERROR MESSAGES FOR ESS/MSS APPLICATIONS.
Any help is much appreciated.

Let me clarify the difference between ESS and MSS errors and JAVA stack errors
A "503 Service not available" is not an ESS or MSS error - this is the thrown by the stack (possibly while navigating
in ESS or MSS)
The only information I have available in the case of java stack errors is to follow

Whcih indicates how to customize stack errors like 404 or 500
Lastly you can also decide to hide the stack trace as per KBA 1596212
To modify an ESS or MSS message this may require modification to front and back-end HCM application - usually
ESS gets error information based on back-end errors example "fill in all required fields"

Setting the session expiration time in ESS/MSS application

HI Experts,
how can we control the expiration time of a particular I view ? we have implemented ESS\MSS application on our portal . The session is getting expired after 5 minutes . We would like to increase this expiration time.

Most of the ESS/MSS applications are webdynpro for java applications

Code of Conduct ESS application throws below exception -

From the forums I could figure out that it is ADS configuration issue, but I am not able to find what the problem is.
I have installed ADS service (Part of EP installation). ADSUSER is EP user and I have made him a technical user.
Tested the application as mentioned in Post install and it shows the version in the result which means OK
Installed the credential
Restarted the J2ee engine
Am I missing any step. How to fix this error?
Do I have to make any settings in ECC/ABAP side?

Can you provide some information on what you had to do in the ECC system? I have this working to the point where I can view the document in the portal but when I do the review and then "send", I get an error message that the notification types does not exist. From the SAP Library, it sounds like everything should be delivered for the sample application. If I go to customizing in the ECC system and try to navigate to the characteristics for the scenario, I get the same message that notification type E1 does not exist.

This error is due to the RFC there it is trying to fetch the data but could not get it
RFC are used to fetch or Upload data from one client to another

Custom fields in ESS webdynpro applications

Hi Experts,
Can you please suggest me where I am going wrong in this scenario? I have a standard application Family member application. We enhanced the infotype 0021 with new fields and corresponding fields are added in screen structures and HCMT_BSP_PA_JP_r0021. This is working fine in the backedn while creating a record in PA30. Standard application in webdynpro is working fine, after that I reimported the model in webdynpro and I can see these fields in my model, so I context binded them in controllers and then to view controllers. There are no errors in it. I added few fields in detail layout. Now when I deployed and run the application after these changes, it is opening up with bizcard view empty and the button for creating a new record showing up, which is not the case should be as I have record in the backend for the same subtype. When I clicked on New record, and even withought filling up required fields, I clicked on continue button, and it is failing giving runtime exception at review view.
Does anybody have any suggestions for me? am I doing the proper steps to make these custom fields available in the screen? does anybody have documentation for adding custom fields in ESS applications or any helpful links, please let me know, I really appreciate your time.

this is lil wierd but the problem is solved in this way.., it might be useful for others, so here is the way I did..,
Once I downloaded the model, I invalidated cache and also, I restarted J2EE, invalidation of cache sometimes acting up i guess. Then build it once again if the service is working fine. After that model bindings, contaxt changes, code changes one at a time and in between after every lil step, I deployed and run the service again, so that I can back that small step if it didnt work out.., finally this was fixed.., but all this process seems wierd about this approach and tiresome too.

Modification of Web Dynpro ABAP ESS Travel application

Hi,
I'm familiar with the modification process of ESS Web Dynpro Java applications using NWDI. However I have to adda button a view in the "Create Expense Report" iView which is a Web Dynpro ABAP application from ERP 6 Ehp3. On the click of this button a pdf report should be shown. The Web Dynpro ABAP application is FITE_EXPENSES.
Can anyone tell me what is the process for modifying ESS WD ABAP code? Do I copy and create a new application and then modify?
I'm not getting any documentation on this on SDN or SAP Help.

Please try to avoid modification of WD4As. This is the last resort!
FITE_EXPENSES uses the WD-Component FITV_FPM_START, there it has the Application Configuration "FITE_EXPENSES". The Application COnfiguration is mapped with the Component Configuration "FITV_FPM_EXPENSES" (this is just for your interest how things are mapped here).
Bottom line the Application uses the WD-Component FITE_VC_GENERAL_DATA you can open it via TA SE80 as above poster suggested. Here. navigate to Views and open the View GENERAL_DATA_VIEW. Navigate to Tab METHODS, open Hook-Method WDDOMODIFYVIEW. Here you can make an implicit enhancement at the end of the method and dynamically generate a Button in runtime, this would be a cleaner approach than hard modification of the standard Layout.. I reccomend you to consider this!

ESS W4 application - picking up state from Emergency address

Hello,
The W-4 application in ESS is picking up emergency address of an employee and giving an option to create an IT0210 record for that state also (if the state is different from the work state of the employee). However, this is not desired and emergency address should not have any thing to do with W-4 records of the employee.
Since we could not find any configuation to avoid this, we have implemented the BADI HRXSS_PER_SUBTYPE with custom logic to check only Infotypes 0207, 0208, and 0209 for the W-4 application. Only if active records exist for these infotypes, employee will be able to create a W-4 record for that state.
However I wanted to check with few other people out there, if there is any configuration available to prevent this from happening (instead of implementing the BADI).
Any inputs will be appreciated.

I am having a similar requirement, and I did exactly as you have explained in this blog and one other blog as well.
However after the filtration is done and lets the subtype table contains 2 entries, it is being passed in to the class CL_HRPA_PERNR_INFTY_XSS : IF_HRPA_PERNR_INFTY_XSS~READ_METADATA,
Here my subtype table is being read and compared with a table   process_allowed_subtypes. This tables contains all the subtypes which were present before filtration.
The below given code then gets executed and since the entries are different in both tables an exception is generated. I really am not sure how this process_allowed_subtypes table is being filled.
Can you please suggest a way out?
* If the user has restrictions on subtypes on top of the t7xssspersubtype table, he gives it via the url parameters.
* Obviously, if the parameters are not available then do not process further for restrictions.
* If the url parameters contain subtypes that are not present in the t7xsspersubtype then throw an exception.
       IF process_allowed_subtypes IS NOT INITIAL.
         LOOP AT subtytab INTO subty_l.
           READ TABLE process_allowed_subtypes WITH TABLE KEY subtype = subty_l-subtype TRANSPORTING NO FIELDS.

ESS standard Application modification

Hello,
We are on ERP 6.0 EHP4.
We have got ESS and MSS implemented. Applications are working fine now.
However user has not yet reverted with any modification on standard one...but still I need to find out on how I can make changes to existing standard applications.
Below are places where it could be done...according to me :
1. Make service specific settings.
Here it is possible to hide fields and show new fields based on existing infotypes. These settings are done in R/3 SPRO Tcode.....
2. Iview Personalization.
Here you can make necessary changes in UI presentation/layout. Making fields disabled or readonly. These are done in portal PCD....
3. FPM modification.
you have to use Self services administrator role here. This is a separate business package which you need to get from SAP.
Please comment on whether my findings are correct ?
Secondly do I need NWDS to modify on any part of existing applications. Can anybody give 1 example where I need to modify WD Java code/view.
Is Self Services Administrator role free from SAP if you have already purchased ESS/MSS Self-Services Package.

1.     Once you install ESS and MSS business package you will get the Self Service Administrator role. We donu2019t need to buy the additional licenses separately for it.
                     About the modification of FPM application, we can modify the FPM applications/views but it is recommended not to modify the SAP delivered FPM configuration. We need to create a new FPM application.
2.     We need NWDS, to enhance the SAP delivered functionality or to fix any of the defects etc. for example I have seen some of the clients asking for the check image on the edit screen of bank application to show what is routing number and account number for the end users, some of the clients they need confirmation, accept terms and conditions etc while creating/updating a bank information etc.
For building the custom applications.
3.     NWDI and NWDS are different, they go together. If itu2019s a big project then we would need a dedicated system for NWDI. I believe it would need the license. If you are using NWDS and also ESS & MSS business package then you have to go for NWDI for creating custom apps or for modifying the standard apps.
NWDI: is used for source code repository, version control, build, transports etc for the java code. In simple terms, NWDS is the front end to the NWDI.
4.     The url u posted is not obsolete, its very important and still holds good. If we want to enhance the back end i.e. infotype and show the enhanced fields of the infotype on portal then we have to go in that route.
5. I think you have covered all the ways for modification and customization.
