Modification date reset to Jan 1970

I have a problem where the modification date of files in the finder has ben set to the first days in January 1970.
Can anyone advise me on the best way to fix this?
Kind regards
Hans

This is a 4 month old iMac and the system clock is not resetting.
I'm glad you told us that, I thought it was the 14" PB that you have listed. It's odd that a PRAM battery would fail on a new iMac but the default modification dates are the kind of behavior you get from a bad PRAM battery. Since, your clock is controlled by the server it would not exhibit itself in an inaccurate clock.
Have you tried resetting PRAM?

  • Why  java date starts from jan-1970

I want to know that why in java date starts with january 1970 .what it specifies

It would be interesting to know how dates like
1582-10-15 "Originally, the COBOL programming language did not come with built-in time and date functions. However, since Y2K new functions have been introduced using integer dates, although with two different epochs. ANSI dates use 1601-01-01 as day 1. Lilian dates use 1582-10-15 as day 1"
and 1858-11-17 were chosen."The OpenVMS Alpha operating system counts intervals of 100 nanoseconds since the Modified Julian Day epoch, 1858-11-17, 00:00:00.00 UTC. However, it is only incremented every 10 milliseconds, 100,000 intervals (10,000,000 ns) at a time. OpenVMS VAX (formerly VAX/VMS) uses the beginning of the current year as the epoch."

  • IMac Date Reset Itself to 1970 and Will Not Connect to Internet

I suspect the date problem has something to do with a dead battery, but suggestions would be welcome.
I have WiFi with my iPhone, so I know that works. When I try to connect the iMac, it wants the WAP password. I checked Keychain, but my password there is denied.
Any clues how I should proceed will be most appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    Ted

    Ted,
I suspect the date problem has something to do with a dead battery
Yes most likely. You can and should reset the date and time in the "Date & Time" click on the time and select "Date & Time" in the drop down menu.
There's a test point under the user access panel on the bottom.
Try again with the correct time. Do you have the WAP password.

  • My Iphone 3gs turns itself off and resets the date/time to Jan 1st 1970

    Hi all,
My 3gs turns itself off (need to use the top button to turn on) and when it restarts; the time has been reset to Jan 1st 1970 at 00.00.
This has happened a few times; what is wrong and how do I fix it.
    Cheers
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
I recently got a new refurbished phone because my old one suffered some water damage. About a day after i got the new one it started doing the excat same thing yours is doing. It didn't matter if i wasrunning applications or not, the phone doesn't get hot or anythign, it just turned off.
Sometimes when i turned it back on the date and time have not been reset but a little while later the phoen would turn off and the date would reset.
I spoek to the Apple support team on the phone yesterday and they told me to take it back to the store i went to but first try the latest update.
Did the latest update last night and it seemed to be working fine until this morning when it turned off and reset the date/tme on turning it back on.
Ive since made an appointment with the Store i originally went to for tomorrow and also for the support team to call me today.
I'll update here if they say anthing new or somethign that helps.

  • Safari annoyance - creation/modification dates are reset on downloads

When downloading files (images for example) by dragging them from a Safari window to a Finder window/drive, the files' creation date and modification date is reset to the date/time it is downloaded; this also happens if you choose "Save Image" from the contextual menu.
It seems the only way Safari will preserve the original creation date and modification date of downloads is by option clicking a hyperlink that points to the file. Anyone know if there is any other way?
Power Mac G4 dual 867 Mirrored Drive Doors   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks to the sharp folks at macosxhints.com I discovered that file creation/mod dates are preserved by dragging image files to Safari's Downloads folder, so I guess it suffices for my needs...still, drag-and-drop to the Finder should do the same.
Also you can paste the file's URL into the address bar and hit option-return, or option-double click the file's URL in the Activity window.

  • ITouch turns off and resets date to 1 jan 2000 when it is turned back on.

My iTouch turns itself off at random and when I turn it back on it has reset the date to 1 jan 2000. I have the latest OS. I have done all types of reset. I have deleted all Apps. I have searched the site but I can find no solutions posted.

I think I have solved the problem so I will document what I did in case it is useful to others.
1 I opened the case. The youtube videos make it look easy but it is not. Mine is one of the original so it is old and stiff to open. No plastic implement was strong enough, so I tried a modellers knife - not strong enough, so I tried a penknife but this twists out as it has a curved blade. Finally I managed it with a chisel and considerable force to keep the blade in the hairline joint between the front and back of the case while I twisted it. If you try this wear gloves and don't try to open it in one go. Work around the edge widening the crack and letting it spring back. The idea is to loosen the springs all round a bit before actually openning the case completey.
2 I decided to close it up again before proceeding to see if I could and whether it still worked. It had the greatest difficulty booting up again. It kept resetting every minute or so. So I openned it up again and examined it.
3 The back case has the on/off switch and aerial in it and these contact the motherboard in the front case by means of springy contacts. Since the device is neither airtight or dust proof it seems to me that these contacts can become faulty with time and humidity etc. I cleaned them up, straightened them a bit so that a better contact would be made and put the case carefully back together again. It seemed to work ok.
4 I have now tested it for a week and it has worked perfectly. Previously the longest it went without resetting was 36hrs. I shall keep testing but I am hopeful that the problem is now solved particularly as I have tested the battery life as instructed elsewhere in the forum and found it to be 24hrs which is very good.

  • After editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated

With both my Mac's, reset Photoshop C  (2014) to previous version 2014.0. Now find that after editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated. Reloaded camera raw, etc., but still find modification dates are not updated, either using Finder or using Bridge to view dates. Editing other files, PSD, DNG, TIFF, etc., are updated and the information is correctly displayed.

Ok, not entirely sure what I did but it's now working (Bizarre!). The only thing I did was 'eject' the ACR 8.6 .dmg file from the finder side bar and restart PS CC, so that may have been where I was going wrong all along!
However, I now have another issue in that there is no preview of the shot in Finder on my iMac when I highlight the NEF file. I assume this is simply because Apple haven't yet released an update for the new D810 NEF files and so the computer doesn't know what it's looking at?!?
If anyone has any other ideas though, then I'm more than willing to listen.
    Thanks again.

  • Install file(s) action - wrong file's modification date

    Hi,
    here is my problem:
Files installed by bundle with "Install file(s)" action (or "Install Folder") have wrong "modification date" - actually set to: 17th january 1970.
    Zenworks 11.3, agent 11.3 or 11.2.4 mu1
    Anyone has this problem?
    Regards, ALipiec

    Just for info:
I am on 11.3 and installed the file upload extension ZENworksFileUploadPlugin.msi with my user.
I tested the "Install File(s)" function with Firefox 17 ESR:
I only see the problem with date 12 January 1970 if I upload the file with I select "Do not compress or encrypt uploaded content".
If I leave that switch unchecked the Creation, Modification, Access -Date are all the same and seem to be the time of the upload into the Repository.
Even if I upload the file several times into repository it seems that the very first upload date/time is always kept for all following installations.

  • Mac Does Not Retain Video Creation and Modification Dates

I seem to have encountered a major problem for managing videos on the Mac. There does not seem to be a method - other than manually dragging files "Windows Style" - for moving videos from my camera (any camera) to the Mac (any Mac) that retains the video's modification date (the date the video was taken) so that videos can be organized by date (which, I imagine, is the primary way that I and everyone else would normally keep track of their videos). iMovie resets the "Date Modified" and "Date Created" data to the day that iMovie imported the file. That data is almost meaningless. Yes, iMovie allows for modifying the "Clip Date and Time" after the fact and one at a time but that is obviously inadequate for the serious management of archived files. Neither iPhoto or Image Capture seem to be capable of touching video files at all. Is Mac really this deficient for managing video files? Somebody please tell me I'm wrong. Thanks.

I run into the same problem while working on some sort of file synching task.
Trying to read the file.modificationDate or creationDate results in an error: "Error #3003: File or directory does not exist."
I have obeserved that this only happens for files that were packaged with the app (and placed in the File.applicationDirectory).
Files that my app has downloaded and saved to the device (File.applicationStorageDirectory) do have a valid creation date and modification date.
Maybe the File.applicationDirectory has different rights?
Does anybody have a solution or workaround for this?

  • My ipod nano just recorded my latest workout as happening in Jan 1970 and it won't/hasn't uploaded to Nike

I completed and uploaded 2 runs a couple of weeks ago with no problem. I did one today and it hasn't uploaded to Nike+ despite synching my ipod.
It has also recorded the run as happening on 4th of Jan 1970 even though the date and time are right on my ipod.
    Help!

    Just to update:
When I look at my profile on the Nike+ website, the run appears as having happened on 4th Jan 2003 ('cause Nike+ doesn't go all the way back to 1970).
I got in touch with the Nike+ support team who have said they will correct the "date stamp"  on my run and let me know when it's done.
They also mentioned that this problem - date stamp being wrong - can occur if you let your ipod run out of charge completely (which I had done) or if you use a wall charger. I did charge using a computer that doesn't have iTunes etc and which isn't linked iwth my ipod so I guess both of these may have affected it.
I still don't know how to change the date of the run on my ipod so it appears correctly in my history on there...wondering if when I sync it to Nike+ once they have corrected it that it will work..but doubtful!
I also don't know what will happen when I do my next run so I still need help! Thanks!

  • Replaced hard drive/ with new install, bad modification dates

Does anyone know how to get rid of bad modification dates that appeared when system (10.3.9) was re-installed after replacement of hard drive on powerbook?
Tech Tools Pro didn't fix it.
The dates for Sherlock, Text Edit, DVD player, ical, isync (even explorer) all say April 1, 1976. That's April Fool's Day and I was 30 years younger, but .... Any ideas?

    Sharon Chard-Yaron...
Something is odd here as a few weeks ago I was forced into a reformat and a reinstall of my Mac OS.
I reformatted / partitioned / installed Mac OS 10.3.5(+) first, as it is where my Panther CD set starts from. However it prompted me to confirm that my dates was corrected before continuing with the install. It seemed rather serious that unpredictable results could happen if those dates was wrong.
(+)(Later of course, I did update to 10.3.9 from my backup of download goodies and Software Update panel.)
Anyway, my time and dates was messed up and I reset them from within that install.
Now- did you get any time/date prompt during the install like I did?
Mac OS 10 installs so many files that I feel it could be a disaster waiting for a time/date to happen on. Unless there is some gifted fix utility that I am not aware of, nothing short to re-doing everything would clear my conscience to a bug free install.

  • Date resets if battery discharges completely

I'm not sure whether this is a widespread issue but if I let my iBook battery run-down completely so that it switches itself off, it loses the time and date settings and returns to 1st Jan 1970. This is only a problem if I don't notice and my new files end up with an older date than older ones etc and generally messes up searching and organisation.
If I actualy switch the iBook off or put it to sleep the problem doesn't occur so I try to keep it charged as much as possible but often when I am travelling that isn't possible.
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

It must be normal. I don't remember where, but I have seen some internet site saying that date settings will be lost if battery is removed without plugging the ac adapter.

  • File window not updating modif. dates – and mysterious parallel universe discovered

The day started innocently enough when I tried to edit some <meta> content on a site I'm building and then saved my work. Little did I know...
DW's "File" window refused to update the "Modified" column of the files I worked on.  Open and closing the files shows that my changes have been recognized and incorporated into the HTML, and the files show up with correct modification dates in Finder (I'm on a Mac). They just won't change date in DW.
When I upload the modified-but-not-redated-in-DreamWeaver files to my remote site, they appear with the incorrect dates on the server, but a text comparison in DW shows that my local and remote files are synched.
Now for the truly weird part: when I run the site in Safari (after flushing its cache), a Source check shows the old code is still operational.  (I also changed the titles of the pages in question to quickly confirm which version was being displayed. This check shows the old title displayed.)
    Here's the site address:  http://www.bearriverbooks.com/index.html
Now for the truly, truly wierd part.  I have a parallel site ( http://www.queen-of-the-northern-mines.com/index.html ) which contains copies of the bearriverbooks.com files. These files, too, show the wrong modification dates in DW's "Files" window and on the remote server – but they display correctly. Anyone who wants to check can compare page titles, which are longer in the later pages with correct code.
I checked the remote site addresses in the "Manage Sites..." center.  I have not crossed my wires there (though I can smell a few arcing badly in my brain.).

I am having the same issue on a Mac 3.4Ghz i7 running Mac OS 10.7.  I have Dreamweaver CS 5.5 v.11.5 Build 5344.
I have a linux webserver, running ProFTPD v.1.3.1
Both my mac and my linux server are set to the correct date and time.
And ls on the linux servers tells me the files have the correct modified date and time, but this is getting lost in translation to dreamweaver when I view the remove server in the File tab.
    Any help appreciated.

  • I have a replacement Note 3.  My Vodafone SIM, which worked fine in the original, fails in the replacement.  When I try to access Settings, the menu briefly flashes, then the phone reverts to the home page.  Will a Factory Data Reset fix this?

    Hi,
I have a Note 3 and a Vodafone SIM that are not playing well together.
    The history is:
I got my Note 3 over 2 years ago.  We visited Italy 2 years ago and I bought a Vodafone sim at a Vodafone outlet.  Everything worked perfectly during that trip and a subsequent trip to France.
Last October, I had to replace the Note 3 because the camera was failing.  I had insurance, so the insurance company sent me a refurbished Note 3. When I tried to use the SIM last December, the Note 3 had problems. When I put the SIM in and started the Note 3, the phone recognized the sim (but gave me an error that, according to Verizon, is spurious).  I could make phone calls but I could not access the data network.  In order to access the data network, you have to go into Settings. More Settings, Mobile Networks and set the Access Point Name.
With the replacement Note 3, I cannot access Settings.  As soon as I try to access Settings (with the Vodafone SIM installed), the Settings menu appears and then immediately the home screen comes up.  After working with Verizon for over an hour, I was able to get into Settings and set the access point name by booting into Safe mode.  But as soon as I rebooted into 'normal' mode, Settings failed and I could not access its menu (to turn on wifi, for example).  There are a couple of other apps that did the same thing - but I cannot remember which ones.
I have talked to Vodafone - they have no clue.  I talked to a Samsung rep I ran into at Best Buy, he thought the Vodafone SIM might be corrupted.  And now a Verizon tech I talked to last week thinks it is a firmware problem on the phone and I should do a Factory Data Reset.
Have you ever heard of this problem?  What do you think might be causing it?
    Thanks for your help.

On2CO,  I'm glad you have reached out to us today. Thank you so much for the very detail description on what is going on with the device. Sounds like there might be an issue with an application that might be causing these issues. The reason I say that is, when the phone is in Safe Mode you are able to access the Settings screens with no issues. While in Safe Mode that does block all 3rd party applications from running on the phone. I would suggest on trying to back up the device and perform a factory reset: http://spr.ly/6-182Vuo (you would want to make sure to uncheck Automatic Restore in step 3). Once the reset is complete try to see if you can get into Settings. Then, I would recommend on adding 3rd party applications back on to the device one by one to see if we can find what app might be causing this issue.
