Modified files on NAS do not update in finder

We have four mac pros running 10.7.5 with final cut studio.  Our media is on a NAS that all four systems access.  We have a problem when we rename files on one system and the changes do not show up on the other three systems.  The only work around we have found is to restart the mac.  We just tried an application found online called "Refresh Finder" that got very positive reviews but that doesn't seem to do anything (or it's being installed and used incorrectly).  Does anybody have suggestions on how to solve this problem.  It would be a big help.
Thanks,
Mike

The Time Capsule is for your backups.
Three things....all bad...happen when you try to move the iTunes Media Folder to the Time Capsule disk.
1) Access to media becomes much slower....typically 15-20 seconds before you will hear the song that you selected.
2) The iTunes Media Folder tends to get lost, so you will have to manually reset the path to the folder frequently.
3) When.....not if....the Time Capsule disk has a problem, you will lose all of your iTunes data.....because you have no backup of the ITunes Media Folder.
I've learned each of these things the hard way. If you still want to do this.....here are the instructions:

  • File to Rfc scenario, not updated in rfc

    Hi,
File to RFC scenario, not updated in RFC?
i checked communication channels ,smq1,smq2,sm58,cache refresh.but issue was not solved.
Please advise where need to check?
    Thanks
    Amita

    Hi Amita,
First check whether the configuration between PI and ECC has been set up properly.
Are you using a stand RFC or custom RFC?
Import the RFC metadata from ECC to PI and use that structure in your service interface and configure the remaining objects that we normally do.
Now, try to process the file and check in the communication channel, whether file Adapter is able to pick up and send the message to PI system.
If the message is successfully processed through PI system then check the messages in Queues. Also, check the RFC communication channel in the adapter engine.
Follow the process, you might get some clue regarding the issue.

  • File dates not updated in finder window (Mozilla only)

OK, folks - here's a real puzzler for you. I'm using Mozilla 1.7.12 to maintain a simple set of web pages. When I save an HTML file with Mozilla composer, the file's modify date in the Finder window does not update consistently. (The window is in list view.)
The date does not update as long as that finder window remains in the background. Selecting the window sometimes updates one file date (but not others if I've modified multiple files). Switching to icon view sometimes updates the file dates, sometimes not. Only logging out and back in (i.e., starting a new Finder) guarantees that all dates are current. This only happens with Mozilla composer - saving files with other software results in the date in the finder window updating immediately. It seems to me this behavior is new since I updated to OSX 10.4.3, but I can't be positive.
    Any bright ideas? - Andy
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Is this causing any problems, or is it just a quirky behavior? For example, if you change to list view and sort by date, does it still get the dates wrong?
I'm thinking this is probably a really marginal bug, where Composer isn't telling the Finder to refresh the date as most applications do, but then, Mozilla does a lot of unMaclike things. Eventually the Finder figures out that the files have been updated though. There are probably a host of ways you can force it to update, as you've already discovered. You can also force it to update with a simple AppleScript:
    tell application "Finder"
update every item of window 1
    end tell
This tells the Finder to update everything in the frontmost window to match what's on the disk.

  • Sites files are examined but not updated.

So here is my issue, I am trying to add some code to a dreamwever template file (.dwt) and when I go to update the site it examines all of the files but does not update them. The code is not placed in an editable region. The template is based off another template so to add the code I did have to open the file in notepad. I then reopened it. The idea is to try to avoid having to edit the original template because it would effects hundreds of pages on the site. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

The template is based off another template so to add the code I did have to open the file in notepad.
There is no natural scenario I can think of that would require that you do this. When you say the code is based off another template do you mean that you are using nested templates? And what is it you are trying to accomplish?

  • "Share" file option to Outlook not working in Finder

    Hi all
I'm on Yosemite 10.10 and Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 Version 14.4.5.
I want to sent a file attached to an email straight from Finder using the "Share" option but nothing happens when I click the share icon and then select Mail option.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    hi,
    i tried -
    <?xdoxslt:xdo_format_number_l(sum(OutboundPayment/PaymentAmount/Value),'00000000000000000D00','US-us')?>
    <?xdoxslt:xdo_format_number_l(sum(OutboundPayment/PaymentAmount/Value),'00000000000000000D00','EN-us')?>
    <?xdofx:to_char(sum(OutboundPayment/PaymentAmount/Value),‘00000000000000000.00’)?>
however on the rtf i get a squiggly line under <?xdoxslt:expression?> and in the eText output file i get ???????? against the record that has the
    <?xdoxslt:expression?> function indicating syntax error.
i am not sure if i can use <?xdoxslt:expression?>/<?xdofx:expression?> fns in a eTEXT-outbound template
    any suggestions ?
    thank you.

  • Why do my edits/changes to files outside of Lightroom not update inside Lightroom?

I'm using version L1.4.1 on a Mac and have noticed that if I bring in a RAW file (either CR2 or DNG) to Lightroom, but then have to make edits/changes to it in a program outside of Lightroom, say Photoshop CS3 (RAW reader) later, it won't update the file and its new changes inside Lightroom unless I were to 'remove' the file from the library altogether and reimport it. With jpgs however, they update will be made, why is that and is there a way to do it?

Did you notice lrdata file in your catalog folder? The lrdata file holds previews of your images – but not the original images.
When you work with images in Lightroom: change levels, apply templates, etc – all of them run very quickly, and are completely reversible. You can go back in the process because LR DIDN'T CHANGE original files itself. Instead it stores them into lrcat and lrdata files.
LR uses these files to show you previews you see when browsing the catalog. As long as LR doesn't know the file has changed, it shows you an older preview.
As far as I remember, you can use the Library - Previews menu item to force LR to rebuild previews from updated files you upload.

  • CSS file in document library not updating

I have a sharepoint 2010 team site. There i created a document library named Style Library to store CSS files.
I uploaded a file name site.css in the document library. This worked fine.
Later on i updated my css file and uploaded to the same library but new style did not impacted.
I tried to library version settings and site publishing feature but nothing helped.
The workaround i found is to change the file name and uploaded which worked fine.
Another thing i noticed is: When i downloaded thee css file from library using "download a copy" link it had my new styles but when i clicked the file name and downloaded it did not have my new changes.
Could someone suggest something, i don't want to change file name again and again.

    Hi Mohit,
This is due to cache problem. Please go through following post where it was explained nicely and a solution was suggested for this problem using Query Strings:

  • File Sync feature does not retain Mac Finder tags on *other Macs

Anyone notice that - while using at least two Macs where one was set to upload the initial set of files - Finder does not see created tags of files downloaded from CC File Sync. I suppose the sync service does not support the fork required to maintain this information. ?

Contact Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. Should apply to new machines within the first 90-day period.

  • IPhoto library not updated in Finder browse window?

    Hi!
When I try to upload images from iPhoto to my blog, I more often then not find that the images I just uploaded aren't visible in the browse window from which I shall choose my files. The iPhoto latest import shortcut displays my second to last import, and it is not visible as a new event either. This doesn't happen every time though, sometimes it works. It's about 50/50 I'd say. In iPhoto the latest pictures are of course visible, so the workaround is to export the latest import to the desktop and choose the files from there. This is tedious though, so I'd really like to find a solution. Anyone got any ideas? Could it be some sort of indexing thing that prevents Finder from displaying an up-to-date representation of my library?
    All help greatly appreciated!
    Erik

click here for a discussion on the many correct and safe ways to access your iPhoto library photos.
Are you using the media browser in the lower left hand corner i the upload window? ip so try renewing your iPhoto preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Files on time capsule not visible in Finder window

I copied files to my time capsule.  The time machine app works fine but only if it is running can I see the files I copied to time capsule.  I would like to use this disk for media storage for iTunes but if it is not visible a lot of the time then it isn't useful for that purpose

  • Hidden files starting with colon not showing in finder--how to delete?

Was playing around with an AppleScript to generate vcards and initially didn't get the path name right. The result (oops) is that a whole batch of vcard files were written into the MacintoshHD-level directory.
The file names start with colons. I can't see them in the Finder, but I can see them in Terminal:
    xxx-xxx-computer:/ xxxx$ ls
    :Users:xxxx:Desktop:AddressBookVcards:xxxxx.vcf
    :Users:xxxx:Desktop:AddressBookVcards:xxxxx2.vcf
(and so on, followed by the normal directory names you'd see in the Finder)
Is there any way to get this list of hidden file names in the finder so I can delete them easily with drag and drop? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
MacBook Pro 15"/2.16Ghz/2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi RKNYC,
This is a subtle issue. The path separator is the character that delimits directory names in the path. As Camelot said, the path separator is never a valid filename character. The complexity comes in the fact that OS X has two ways of specifying a path, each with a different path separator. The classic OS use a colon as a path separator but UNIX components use a forward slash as a path separator.
Instead of eliminating both characters as valid filename characters, Apple made an interesting choice that really is the only way to eliminate just one character. If you put a forward slash in a filename in a carbon app, it will be allowed because carbon apps use classic paths internally so only a colon is disallowed. However, if you list the same file with a UNIX tool, you couldn't see a forward slash because that would be illegal. Instead, you see a colon in the place of the slash. There's an illegal character and the other one and if you put the other in a filename, it will change depending on context.
What happened to you is almost certainly the opposite of my example above. AppleScript can handle both contexts but the syntax for UNIX paths is tricky. What you probably did was use a UNIX path in a classic context. AppleScript took you to mean that you wanted a file at the top level of the drive that has a very long filename with lots of slashes in it. That is, your slashes were taken as filename characters: the other character. Then when you listed it in a UNIX context, those slashes turned to colons.
In order to get AppleScript to understand UNIX paths — to treat a forward slash as a delimiter — you have to specify the path as a POSIX path, like so:
    Posix file "/var" as alias
That acts as a handle to a file, which you can create if it doesn't already exist. An alias doesn't have to exist while a file does.
There's one thing I don't understand: why the files would be invisible. I hate that AppleShowAllFiles option. I've got a lot of UNIX apps that store their preference files as hidden files (filenames beginning with a period) at the top level of my home directory. I couldn't find a thing if I had to sift through all of that. However, your filenames don't begin with a period and I just checked; on my machine, filenames beginning with a colon are shown in the Finder — they just begin with a slash. (the Finder is a Carbon app)

  • Folders last modified time stamp are not updated in Windows 7

After changing any .cpp file in Visual Studio, the last modified time stamp for the file's folder
IS NOT updated. What's happening ?
However when I change a Word (.docx) file, the last modified time stamp for the file's folder
IS updated ! How come ?

    Hi,
If you thought this issue gets worse and if you have already set NtfsDisblesLastAccessUpdate to 0, then please revoke it to 1.
From the above Blog we can see that in Windows 7, the "Last Modified" field on log files is not updated when a program attempts to open the file or the utility is stopped, this is a design change to NTFS , becase we cache the metadata for
folder contents and do not refresh it until a handle is closed on an open file or an explicit call is made to retrieve the properties of an individual file.
Per your current issue that even if you closed these Vistual Studio files, the timestamp still didn't update. Please try the following and check whether any of them work:
    - open the file in a second program
    - view the proprties of the file
    - "dir <filename>" at a command prompt
In addition, if you edit these Vistual Studio files with Notepad(Before doing that, please close all the programs include Vistual Studio) and try to reproduce the issue, does the issue still occur?

  • HT4796 i have successfully migrated the music but it just shows up in my files and has not updated my iTunes library which is still getting the music from iCloud and is not using the migrated files. Any ideas?

I have successfully used windows migration software to move my music library from a PC to my MacBook Air.
However the music files are just stored in my file system and have not updated my itunes files. Itunes is still getting the music down from icloud instead of using the music files.
    Any ideas?

If you're using Windows Movie Maker and HP Photo to build slide shows, this is not an iPod touch issue (nor an iTunes issue), so I'd suggest you take up the problem on a web site that deals with Movie Maker or HP Photo issues. It's really not something we can help with in this forum.
If you're building this slide show on your iPod, please post back and tell us what app(s) you're trying to use, and whether the iPod app on your iPod touch shows and plays your songs correctly. Knowing the specific model of iPod you have and the version of iOS it's running will probably also help.
    Regards.

  • Files using template not updating after moving

On this site "C" (see link) site I want to move the Template&Library folder and get them inside the local root folder, which is actually "Os". When  I move it in DW the links are updated nice - but when I change the template, the files using it are not updated. Anyone care to tell me how to move these two folders to Os folder and not experiencing this problem?
    http://302.se/3839

You should never had a folder named "public_html" in a properly defined site.
And "Os" is not the root folder of the C site.  You would need a NEW site definition with Os as the root for the Templates to work properly.
